Politics › BREAKING: INEC Begins Dino Melaye’s Recall Process by Inspire01(op): 3:16pm On Apr 25, 2018

The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced the recall process of the senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye.
INEC on Wednesday announced the commencement of verification exercise of voters in his constituency .
This follows the Appeal ruling which gave INEC the go ahead to carry out the exercise .
The exercise scheduled for Saturday 28 th is in line with the constitutional provision that 50 + 1 registered voter must be confirmed to have signed the recall petition register .
The Kogi state resident electoral commissioner , Professor James Apam in a press conference on Wednesday in Lokoja said that the commission has put all necessary modalities in place to ensure a hitch free exercise .
“ The verification exercise which is the first in the line of activities to be carried out in a recall process will be done on 28 th April, 2018 in 560 polling units in the Kogi west senatorial district ” he said .
Professor Apam said that the result of the exercise would be announced on Sunday when collation is expected to have been concluded.
According to him “The result of the verification exercise would determine whether or not to proceeded to the next stage which is referendum . ”
Senator Dino Melaye who is currently in police custody on charges bothering on alleged gun running have also been having a running battle with the Kogi state government.
The resident electoral commissioner said that Senator Dino Melaye have been duely informed while stakeholders meeting was held on the 25 th , April to inform them of these processes .
He disclosed that the commission will be engaging the services of over 2 ,000 adhoc staff while all the security agencies have been enlisted and have promised to ensure a hitch free exercise .

There are other candidates apart from apc and PDP. The problem is, we always believe that our vote doesn't count. All youths should register and vote

The saddest of everything is that most of our youths only rant and make noise on social media. Come 2019, majority of them will sit at home on election day as if their future is not at stake

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state has ordered all “leviable adults” in the state to pay N3,000 each as “development levy.”

According to a statement by Louis Duru, the state Commissioner for Community Government, Culture and Traditional Affairs, the money is to be used for “autonomous community adult development.”

Duru said the state had registered at least 2,000 leviable adults in each of the 637 autonomous communities.
He added that recognised communities will serve as the collectors and they are to pay not less than N6 million each.

Okorocha warned that the traditional rulers of defaulting communities will have their allowances or salaries suspended.

“To facilitate the payment, the state government through the ministry of CGC, since September 2016, has provided community adult registers for all autonomous communities in the state where the communities will enlist the names of at least 2000 leviable adults.”

“Consequently, Owelle Okorocha has directed that all recognised autonomous communities in Imo State should pay the minimum adult development levy of without further delay.

“Any recognised autonomous community that fails to pay the development levy will be merged with sister autonomous community that had paid and the salaries/allowances of the traditional ruler ill be suspended.

“Government has concluded arrangements to embark on sensitisation meetings with traditional rulers at the local government areas to further emphasize His Excellency’s directives and monitor compliance.”

Five more African athletes may have vanished from the Commonwealth Games , organisers said Thursday , after eight competitors from Cameroon were suspected of fleeing a day earlier.
Gold Coast organisers confirmed reports that athletes from Rwanda and Uganda were thought to have gone missing , while they were also looking to verify the whereabouts of two squash players from Sierra Leone .
“ We’re obviously looking at it very carefully,” Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive David Grevemberg told reporters.
“We have a service to people who have legitimate visas to be in this country ,” he added .
“ Until it becomes a true issue and somebody has outstayed their visa, or have formally applied for asylum , we just need to continue to monitor the situations .
“ The focus now is to support teams in trying to track down the athletes who are missing . ”
More than 100 athletes overstayed their visas at the 2000 Sydney Olympics . Athlete visas for the Commonwealth Games expire on May 15 , Grevemberg said .
Eight athletes from conflict - hit Cameroon — one third of the central African country ’s 24 - strong team — were said to be missing from the Commonwealth Games on Wednesday , sparking an Australian Border Force manhunt .
As the search continues for Cameroon ’ s five boxers and three weightlifters, Grevemberg insisted the welfare of the athletes came first .
“ We obviously have been in close contact with Cameroon officials ,” he said .
“ We share their concern regarding obviously the safety , welfare, whereabouts of these athletes. ”
Cameroon team manager Victor Agbor Nso told local media he had reported the matter to police on Wednesday .
Australia ’s Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton warned that athletes would be forcibly removed from the country if they attempted to overstay their visas .
“ They aren ’t going to game the system ,” he told local radio. “Australian Border Force officers will find these people ( and) they’ll be held in immigration detention until they can be deported . ”
