The Federal Government has announced the closure of a section of Third Mainland Bridge will be completely closed for a period of two days for repair works.

According to a statement signed by the Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Joshua Popoola, the total closure of the section of the bridge will take place from midnight of Friday, October 9 to midnight of Sunday, October 11 to allow the contractor to complete the first stage of casting works.

The statement explained that the contractor currently carrying out repair works on the bridge is nearing completion of works on the closed section of Third Mainland Bridge and requires the total closure of both bounds of the bridge between Adeniji Adele and Adekunle to complete work.

“The total closure of this section of the bridge is to ensure that there is no vibration on the bridge during the casting in-place of the newly installed expansion joints. This is to allow for setting of the special concrete, which allows the concrete to achieve its required compressive strength,” the statement read in part.

Popoola added that due to the number of expansion joints to be cast on the closed section of the bridge and the traffic situation in Lagos State, especially during the weekdays; the casting of the expansion joints will be in two stages to ensure that the total closure is only at the weekends when there is less traffic plying the route. He said the second total closure of the section of the bridge will be communicated at a later date.

He added that the section of the bridge between Adekunle and Iyana – Oworo will still remain open, and traffic can move from Ebute-Metta/ Adekunle to Iyana – Oworo and vice – versa. In July, the federal government began the partial closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for maintenance work which will last till January 2021.

Instagram user @mayoks_michael who shared photos of the injuries the assault victim sustained, alleged that he found out about the abuses on Monday June 22 after she (victim) turned down a music video shoot. Asides accusing Lil Frosh of making her sister/client lose many jobs, @mayoks_michael also alleged that the singer recorded the lady naked and promised to share it on the internet after assaulting her.

According to Financial Times, Nongfu Spring founder Zhong Shanshan’s net worth has hit $58.7 billion after a massive listing by the bottled water company in Hong Kong, according to Bloomberg estimates that makes him richer than Mr. Ma, whose fortune dipped to $56.7bn after shares in e-commerce group Alibaba fell 0.9 percent in New York on Wednesday.

This makes him $2 billion richer than previous number one, Alibaba founder Jack Ma, the wealth index said. Zhong’s Nongfu Spring, which claims to be number one in China’s massive bottled water market, is ubiquitous across a country where most people shun tap water for health reasons.
The company raised nearly $1.1 billion in its initial public offering.

Zhong is also the chairman of Beijing Wantai Biological Pharmacy Co. Ltd., a vaccine manufacturer listed on the mainland in April. It is developing a Covid-19 vaccine nasal spray in conjunction with a prominent university. Zhong, a 66-year-old former reporter from Zhejiang who state media say was also once a construction worker, is often referred to by Chinese media as a “lone wolf” for his rare public appearances and reluctance to be interviewed.

He founded Nongfu in 1996, just as China’s bottled water market began to take off.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has married the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq.

Multiple sources confirmed to Daily Trust last night that the wedding Fatiha took place on Friday,
September 18, 2020, at the Maitama Juma’a Mosque in Abuja.

“It is true that the chief of air staff and the humanitarian affairs minister have gotten married,” one of the sources said.

“Very few people were invited to attend the wedding fatiha because the couple and those close to them didn’t want to publicize the issue,” he said.

Another source said the two have been in love for some time.

“They have been in a relationship for a while and what happened on Friday has put to rest all the speculations about her relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

There were reports in October 2019 that President Buhari and the minister have gotten married, a claim that was dismissed by the presidency.

Nigerian TV show host and comedienne, Helen Paul is reportedly taking a postdoctoral study in an undisclosed university in America.

The Nation reported that Helen Paul is on the verge of becoming a professor barely a year after emerging Nigeria’s first popular stand-up comedienne to bag a Doctorate Degree.

Recall that the comedienne completed her Ph.D programs in Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos in 2019.

A source told the publication;

“Yes, Helen Paul has been shuttling between Nigerian and the US for some months now. While studying to become a Professor, she is also working as a lecturer in one of the institutions in the US.

They finally accepted their defeat

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accepted defeat and congratulates Governor Godwin Obaseki for winning last Saturday, September 19 governorship election in Edo state.

On Sunday September 20, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC declared Obaseki of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the election after polling 307, 955 votes to defeat his main contender Pastor Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress APC, who polled 223, 619 votes.

Reacting to the outcome of the election, the chairman of the APC national caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, said in a statement that the peaceful conduct of the election and its outcome represents a victory for Nigeria’s democracy. He said the party and the president remain committed to free and fair elections to strengthen the foundation of the country’s political and moral authority.

He commended INEC, security agencies, and all political parties that contested the election for the successful conduct of the election.

VOTE WISELY

It wasn’t that long ago, 2016 to be exact, when Comrade Adams Oshiomhole—the then-governor of
Edo—traversed the state with Mr. Godwin Obaseki urging the people to support his governorship bid.

But this was no random act of gratuitousness. Obaseki had earned it. For seven and a half years, he had served as the chairman of the state’s economy and strategy team. Drawing on his experience as an investment management expert of more than 30 years, he midwifed the major development projects of the Oshiomhole government. The comrade himself has corroborated this fact on different media platforms and public fora. While addressing a mammoth crowd at one of the campaign rallies four years ago, Oshiomhole noted:

“Godwin has worked for seven and a half years for the people of Edo state using his brain, using his creativity. Quietly—not making noise, not appearing in the newspaper or radio—he sits in the office of the economic team, which he built using his network of friends, inside the heart of Government House without demanding one naira.”

Just as Oshiomhole extolled the virtues of Obaseki as the campaign train moved across the 142 units in the 18 local government areas of the state, he also warned the electorate about the main opposition candidate in that election, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu. The professed pastor had served as director-general of Oshiomhole’s campaign organization in 2012 when the latter was running for a second term in office.

So, the comrade knew him well enough to offer a firsthand assessment of his character and values. His qualification and experience too. Speaking to supporters at the campaign stop in Uromi, Oshiomhole said of Ize-Iyamu,

“We are liable if we say anything that is libelous. I bear full responsibility in my personal capacity. I wave my immunity. And I declare as follows before God.” He then proceeded to call Ize-Iyamu all sorts of names. Oshiomhole also stated that Ize-Iyamu was unfit to be governor because he had no record of professional enterprise or public service besides his stint in the government of Chief Lucky Igbinedion.

“It’s true we found ourselves in the region of politics working together, but I never gave him government job…I didn’t want to spend my time watching his files,” said Oshiomhole.

Now, four years after, Oshiomhole is singing a new song. Kneeling before traditional rulers in Benin, he pleaded for support of the candidacy of Ize-Iyamu in the forthcoming Edo gubernatorial elections. The very same person that he had described as unfit to govern, he presented to the Council of Chiefs as “a man who understands the workings of the state and who has a clear manifesto that will bring the dividend of democracy to Edo people.” And he has, since been actively promoting Ize-Iyamu’s to the electorate as Edo’s messiah.

What could have informed the sudden change in tune? He swore by God that the damning revelations he had earlier made about Ize-Iyamu were true. How come Obaseki, who—in Oshiomhole’s words, has “an uncommon capacity to think, to create, to mobilize and to challenge us to put resources to the public good” has now turned a “bad product” in the comrade’s books? No one makes such a dramatic turn, except driven by creed or by greed. Edo people are not fools. And I’m sure they can tell what the real motivation is. Indeed, this election is a struggle for the “heart and soul” of Edo. But power lies in the hands of the people.

And only we can determine our fate. We can either choose to return to the Edo of old where a few self-acclaimed godfathers and career politicians held the reins of power and stole the state dry. Or we can choose to go forward to a new Edo, where government works for the people, with policies and programs that benefit the majority rather than a few—the kind that Obaseki has modeled over the last three years. Come 19th September—with our PVCs in hand—we can choose the Edo we
want. Vote wisely!

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former Finance and Foreign Affairs Minister, reportedly took an American citizenship in 2019.

According to Bloomberg, the decision might be linked to her ambition of becoming the next director-general of the World Trade Organisation under a nomination from Nigeria, a position she is contesting for alongside 8 others.

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. the 1976 Harvard graduate of Economics spent most of her career at the World Bank and living in the Washington suburbs. The publication noted that revelation of her dual status may become magnified as protectionist sentiment rises around the world and national allegiances are questioned. At least two other candidates for the top WTO job disclosed multiple nationalities on their biographies posted online by the Geneva-based organization. Okonjo-Iweala’s bio doesn’t mention dual citizenship, and there’s no requirement to do so.

Attah of Igala palace unlike before. He said that there was an unusual presence of mean looking police men at the entrance of the palace, turning people out and not allowing those in the inside to come out.


According to him, the report has it that the Attah of Igala became seriously sick and died in an
undisclosed hospital in Abuja. He said that according to the traditional of Igala land, the death of the Attah is not made public.


“I can report that there is confusion now on the streets of Lokoja as the rumour that the Attah of Igala is dead is gaining ground .The information that we have though it has not been confirmed by the state government is that he died in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja. Some people are rumouring that the god of Igala land is angry with him because the role that he played in the second coming of Yahaya Bello. Some people have already started condolences on their face book and twitter handles.”

Ecuadorian couple, Julio Cesar Mora Tapia, 110-year-old and Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes, 104-year-old  who have been married for 79 years, are now the world's oldest married couple.

The pair secured the title of the oldest married couple, with an aggregate age of 214 years and 358 days, according to Guinness World Records. Julio Cesar was born on March 10th, 1910, and Waldramina was born on October 16, 1915. The couple met through her sister's husband, who was Julio Cesar’s cousin.

They went on to become the parents of five children. Their oldest son sadly died at the age of 58.

Today, Cesar and Waldramina have a huge family of 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

"Family unity under the rules of love, mutual respect, honest work, and proper education based on family values are the keys to healthy coexistence," the couple said.

"The love and maturity that we had as a couple from the beginning of the marriage allowed us to know each other and grow emotionally to define our future."

"It was not easy because our relatives did not have a good relationship, but with time and patience we were able to unite them and we became an example and the best reference for the younger generations."
