igbodefender: We are thankful for democracy, Buhari, the coming Igbo Presidency, Blue3k (Nairaland resident economist), Nairaland, Zikistmovement.com, and a 100 other signs of hope. Nothing can stop Igbo presidency in 2019, or 2023 latest! Quote me. I like Okorocha but will wait to see who is motivated to throw their hat in the ring by getting his or her name out there by middle of next year, regardless of party affiliation. It's Thanksgiving Day today in the USA! (Don't tell the natives oh! Lest memories of small pox blankets and the trail of tears ruin the festivities. Ah Ahmrika. ) Anyway, it is probably the biggest annual holiday in the continental united states, being celebrated by just about everyone. People duly give thanks to the deity, ancestors and nature for seeing them through this complex world. I will thank my ancestors, for they were truly wise, hardy and aspirational. Omo Ogun ni mi. E se o! Aa se yi s'amodun o. Ase! Give your thanks, as a Nigerian. No matter where you are. Don't curse Buhari. Yes, there are many things to complain and be miserable about, but be really thankful and appreciative. Politics section na my people.

Nebuzaradan: [s][/s] Fayose is greater than oduduwa itself at least Fayose saved his people from fulani herdsmen while Tinubu worshiped them Fayose is a disgrace, really. Not someone to praise or emulate. His actions are motivated by extreme self interest and avarice. Reading about his family history that he himself enumerated, I am not surprised at the kind of foolish corrupted opportunist he turned out to be. And I'm not APC or PDP. More important, don't talk sh!t about Oduduwa. |

Katsumoto: My guess is that one of the wives was barren and she proceeded, using witchcraft, to ensure that the other wives did not bare children before her. Since it was only the concubine that had the child, she probably did not know about the concubine. This is plausible because the priests might have revealed to the Ogiso that someone was responsible for him remaining childless and devised a plan for him to 'meet' his concubine in secret. Why would a king have four wives without any of them been able to have kids? The first wife was probably barren and then he would have married the second and she too would have been barren, and then the third with the same result, and then the fourth. I don't believe that the one wife out of four was able to get pregnant while the others couldn't. It only points to the possibility the pregnancy was from a non-sterile man, unlike the king. Tales about a suspiciously barren wife bewitching all the other wives is not plausible outside of superstition and scapegoating of an innocent victim. That theory always seemed full of holes. |

Kilode1: I always resent that too, Like West Africans cannot be validated until they have a connection to Egypt or something I've revisited this and think there's a strong possibility Oduduwa the Ile-Ife king did in fact come from the Middle East. I'm keeping my mind open for more knowledge about it. Oodua a gbe wa o. That was from the A. B Ellis book right? actually you are right, one should wonder about the discrepancy, since he got his description from the supposedly dark skinned Yorubas and maybe the Ewes.
Or maybe the Spiritual/Divine Oduduwa deity is different from the physical mortal one.
Or maybe the desription was lost in translation , maybe they mean't deep one, or shiny one, or bright one, or wise one and not black one. Yes, from A.B. Ellis book on the sacredtext website. I previously posted a portion of it - dealing with Oduduwa and Yoruba religious beliefs and Orisas - on another NL thread. |

macof: Yes by lineage but Ologun kutere's claim to the throne was through his mother's lineage, since she was the daughter of Ado and Akinsemoyin's children were young.
This applies to all the "royal families", because as you know in Yorubaland(yes isale-eko is yoruba not bini land) obaship is not owned by one single family unlike in Bini If Isale eko is Bini they would be practicing bini tradition not Yoruba. And the Akinsemoyin line seem to have been phased out of the ascendancy. |

Alcatraz005: You have spoken well. I am really tired on their matter so I rarely comment on igbo issue in Nigeria and I am now channeling all my energy to my own life. If given the chance to vote for an igbo or Ijaw man as President, I and my generations will choose that ijaw man. That goes to show how much I “distrust” an average igbo man. Is it my fault that I don’t trust them? No! It is a result of years of careful study of the behavior of average igbo person who is prone to unwarranted bouts of hubris and vain glorious worship of the outrightly mundane. I advice all Nigerians to just tolerate them as fellow country men but never to bestow them with power as they are sure to misuse that power to the detriment of other Nigerians. Wow! Seriously, what do you think will happen when an Igbo becomes president, in 2019 or 2023 or anytime in between? You think an Igbo President will declare Biafra and excise the west and north like Malaysia did Singapore? What is the worst that could happen from an Igbo presidency? |
Politics › Re: 2023 Or 2027 The Presidency Will Come To The South And Will Not Be SE by isalegan2: 8:17pm On Nov 19, 2017 |
Alcatraz005: I have been following the discussion and my submission is that if the 2023 elections will be thrown open for all Nigerians to vote, I don’t see any igbo man winning. There’s just this fear that Nigerians have for igbos that won’t see them vote for an igboid individual.
Igbos have the Yoruba and Hausa to contend with in Nigeria. No need for any threat of violence, what the igbos need right now is to be humble but we all know that arrogance is ingrained in the average igbo man so we are in a catch 22 situation. Are you Igbo? Why wouldn't they be able to win? Candidates are promoted and supported by their political party and their followers - that is how an Igbo or any other ethnicity wins. Once the nomination process conclude and campaign starts in earnest, most supporters and affected regions will fall in line and get behind their party nominee. |

Angelanest: Retd Justice Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor has resumed in Washington D.C as Nigeria's Ambassador to the United States. A formal reception in his honor was held at the Embassy on Monday with the wife of the vice president, Dolapo Osinbajo and other dignitaries in attendance.
The 83-year-old Nsofor was earlier rejected by the senate in March as a non-career ambassador for looking too fragile and not been able to answer the questions asked of him when he appeared before the senate committee on Foreign affairs.
Nsofor was later confirmed by the senate after he was re-nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Justice Sylvanus Adiewere Nsofor retired as a Justice of Court of Appeal in March 2005 after clocking the mandatory retirement age of 70.
