Seun:While I do not know if the OP meant this other than to satirize the numerous spurious and inflammatory allegations made on this site since the election, it is good to finally see the beginning of moderator challenges to non-credible threads that are sprouting from all corners. For example, the posting of morbid pictures of tragic events totally unrelated to any post-election strife being used to buttress claims of "war" in the North. ![]() |
Funny. But there's no proof that the boys pictured are waiting to vote in the current election. |
EzeUche is eternal. Many manifestations yet still the same EzeUche.
hmmm. Have we met? |

Jiah011:Are you serious? I find the reason is quite transparent and cogent. Except for those determined to have an endless and fruitless debate. There is no society in the world where female promiscuity is encouraged. To borrow a girl's line from a popular script: "You see how picky I am about my shoes and they only go on my feet." Think about it. ![]() To the OP: Stick to your convictions; No explanations necessary. |
"When life is . . . something, and child of adari is upsetting one's mind. . . something. . . Let your thoughts. . . bellybutton. . . No matter the fact that I am unable to stop the rotation of the earth or reverse the movement of time; Wipe your eyes, my friend, and continue to remember to rejoice because time. . . naijababe:Was that so hard? E se o! For me, it was a gargantuan task. You guys rock! |

She obviously sits in a pent house corner office with a magnificent view of the North sea.
I will only say this once! naijababe puts us all to shame. Is it too late to say, I actually am enamoured of "pure science" people? ![]() |
naijababe:And what in carnation is 8/5 on a scale of 1-5? Didn't you have to pass Math before they gave you all those Palis from Oyinbo schools? I admit I suck at Math, but it don't look kosher to me. That's all I'm saying.
Isale uses so much liberal arts lingo, she'll make pure science people have inferiority complex
Kilode, No! Don't fall for it! |
naijababe:Yeah, right! Can I say your profession, or is it classified? An Agit-Prop is an Agitator-Propagandist. One of those terms used more often in political science class and less so in day-to-day political discourse. You, my friend, are a pot-stirrer troublemaker. |
naijababe:I just noticed that you are actually an agitprop. You stir the pot. Don't know why I never noticed till now. God protect people like me sha. At least its not a sin to be naive and gullible. ![]() You on the other hand. . . ![]() |
naijababe:Do the assignment, please. Get a load of the translations so far. You see all these people who are a credit to Yoruba culture, huh? Aintcha proud? I am not worthy! Part of the motive here is to assuage my own feeling of inadequacy when it comes to my language - THE language. I insist the letter is written in an almost obsolete Yoruba language, not day-to-day conversational vernacular. Certainly nothing close to the creole I try to pass off as Yo'oba. lol. |
Translated: ![]() When the vicissitudes of life depresses you, when man breaks your heart, anchor your thoughts on our shared covenant of faithfulness. Although, I may not not have the powers to stop the storms of life or change the hearts of men; Be cheerful my friend, let your heart rejoice because of the fleeting nature of time, because life does not follow time like a gun's shaft follows its handle. It is true, God is the only true friend, there is no comforter or backbone like the king of glory, the wonderful God; My hope lies in the Lord, My heart trusts in his protective hands. Still, I stretch out my hands of loyalty and friendship towards you, that you may take it without no second thoughts, because I know every man needs a covenant that helps lessen the weight of life. I'm yours, I make a promise to share all I have with you, a promise to rejoice with you in the times of plenty, and to sympathise and stand by you in your moments of despair. In the hope that my love will be forever, May God be my strength. Amen
Wow! This is neat! I want more translations now. I've gotten greedy. lol. You must tell that guy to pay us something o, I don't write wedding vows for free oFor all you know, I could have lifted it from a textbook, or someone's old homework book. When I was in school in Naija, a couple of times we actually had to write letters in Yoruba. But that was kids stuff compared to this. |
No worries, Kilode?! I forgot some are working the day after Easter. Now I know where you are Okay, I won't speculate on it (ur location or i.d.) again. |
OAM4J:There is it! Thank you o jare. Tough for anyone. Well, the writer is exceptional. Cos I couldn't write like that even if I undertake to immerse myself in Yoruba literature and nothing but, for the next 6 months straight. lol. "Pa" is now also a slang which has been redefined to mean "very much," but the original Yoruba meaning conveys an idea of death or cessation (of something), does it not? Like, "pa ri e." I'm prob getting too technical now. ![]() |
OAM4J:Great! Thanks. That was really hard to translate. Don't you agree that it is not everyday Yoruba that people speak to each other? It's not even the kind of Yoruba you would typically write someone. Am I wrong? I always make excuses that it's due to the lack of accents or tonal markings on the vowels when I have trouble reading Yoruba, but in this case, even the words were hard to identify. The degree of difficulty of understanding it is like a 5, if you ask me. ![]() |

Yoruba Language - Lesson 1 Assignment: 1) TRANSLATE into English; 2) State the DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY of translation, using a rating of 1-5, 1 being easy Yoruba that a 12 yr old bilingual speaker should know, and 5 being Yoruba so hard and obsolete only a grandfather or a Yoruba college major would understand. OAM4J:You might wanna get those fake measurements out of your head. You missed it, but naijababe has thrown the mother of all tantrums to go join her soul sisters wherever they congregate ![]() BTW, all of you yabbing my team, all I've got to say is: There is always another season and its not over till it's over.I sympathise with you Gunners. Most of you, anyway. I thought all hopes was lost. So, are you counting on next season or are you saying there's still a chance this season? I'm not vested in ManU or Chelski winning, so Arsenal taking it is fine with me. I don't see how though. You can't break all the legs of the ManU and Chelski players without someone going to jail for a long time. |
naijababe: I missed this earlier. It's actually quite funny. Hey there, Awori chick! How're the Romance/Sexuality w####s treating ya? ![]() BTW, wasn't it Tottenham that gave y'all 4-1 or was it 5-0. |

Katsumoto:I forgot his name. All that came to my mind was "spanish waiter," which was more of a slur popularized by the ManU fans. I wasn't gonna insult anyone, ya know. ![]() Who/what is rawk?http://www.redandwhitekop.com/ I lived in Liverpool as a little boy when Liverpool FC was the King of old division one. I idolised players such as Barnes, Rush, Beardsley, Hansen, etcDidn't expect a "confession." You're slipping. ![]() O ya, Kilode. It's your turn. People are waiting. naijababe:Shekpe should probably be "she'pe," which would mean, "to curse at people" repeatedly. ![]() |
AjanleKoko:I already said that's not me! I wouldn't give my measurement, but the other was definitely naijababe's though. Yup! Katsumoto:Dreamer! "It's good to want things." ![]() Katsumoto:If it's good, I claim it. If it's bad, you know who's responsible. ![]() naijababe:Need I say more? Agbero lingo, I believe it's called. ![]() |
Katsumoto: How'd you ever become a fan of the Kop/Koppites? From following Premier League for years, I read ManU fan sites a lot, and still do to some extent, but Rawk was crazy. Maybe it's cos they've been losing consistently since winning Champs League a few years ago. I know you can't judge a people from reading online forums (Nairaland and Nigerians, anyone?!) but they just sounded so bitter. I'm sure they're unbearable now. Whatever happened to the previous coach, the Spanish guy that went to Inter? |
More from Rumi: All day I think about it, then at night I say it. Where did I come from, and what am I supposed to be doing? I have no idea. My soul is from elsewhere, I'm sure of that, and I intend to end up there. This drunkenness began in some other tavern. When I get back around to that place, I'll be completely sober. Meanwhile, I'm like a bird from another continent, sitting in this aviary. The day is coming when I fly off, but who is it now in my ear who hears my voice? Who says words with my mouth? Who looks out with my eyes? What is the soul? I cannot stop asking. If I could taste one sip of an answer, I could break out of this prison for drunks. I didn't come here of my own accord, and I can't leave that way. Whoever brought me here will have to take me home. This poetry, I never know what I'm going to say. I don't plan it. When I'm outside the saying of it, I get very quiet and rarely speak at all. ~ O Prince, with your tiny horse and saddle, You're a charlatan! A knave! Though your head is bound in gold cloth Your eyes see only what they want to see. You say, "Where is death? I don't see death!" Death will greet you from all six directions and say, "Here I am." Death will say, "O donkey, your running about is over." Where is your moustache, your pride, your turned-up nose? - Gone. Where is your beautiful maiden? - Gone. Where is your glimmer of happiness? - Gone. Who will come to make your bed now that your pillow is a brick and your blanket is the earth? . . . Say good-bye to your eating and sleeping. Go and seek the truth within. Throw away your petty rituals and become a prince of eternity. Don't take the soul from your soul. Don't turn this bread into poison. Can't you see? - Someone has tossed a pearl into the bottom of a dung heap. It is only for the sake of that pearl that we cover our hands with dung. O soul, Don't be so hard - break! Find a lustrous pearl among the broken shells of your pride. When you see a man of God offer him your service. When you are troubled and in pain just keep going. . . . O body, what a joke! - The Prince I'm looking for is me yet I spend all my time thinking I am you! O Shams, Lord of Tabriz, You are the water of life - Who shall drink of your water, save one with a tearful eye? ~ Can you find another market like this? Where, with your one rose you can buy hundreds of rose gardens? Where, for one seed get a whole wilderness? For one weak breath, a divine wind? You've been fearful of being absorbed in the ground, or drawn up by the air. Now, your waterbead lets go and drops into the ocean, where it came from. It no longer has the form it had, but it's still water. The essence is the same. This giving up is not a repenting. It's a deep honoring of yourself. When the ocean comes to you as a lover, marry at once, quickly, for God's sake! Don't postpone it! Existence has no better gift. No amount of searching will find this. A perfect falcon, for no reason has landed on your shoulder, and become yours. |
naijababe:I beseech all who can hear me! Please tell this Fake-Awori Fake-Lagosian woman to stop speaking ARA OKO Yoruba to me. I don't believe that is real Yoruba. lol Iy Okay, wth did you just say? You know I do better with spoken Yoruba - proven with my sterling transcriptions of popular Naija/Yo'oba songs. If written, especially the way you write yours, kindly accent it! ![]() |
