Not a thing, egbon mi. Good looking out! If you live in the region I think you do, I'm sure you've heard that phrase lots. ![]() I could use some amusement though. Let's get Dayokanu to dance for us. ![]() |
hmmm. Not feeling it. ![]() |
^^Hahaha, I smell an age declaration bait. I know I'm older than Nairaland, that I can confess
lol. My days of provoking and baiting are over. ![]() |
^ no mind me jare, I meant Oscars, all na award
It's all right. We all have those "senior moments." |
ifyalways:hahaha. ![]() dayokanu:Reeeeaaaally? |
W'sup Isale, I was busy plotting a revolution, internet warriors gotta eat. The I didnt plan on watching; I usually plan to miss it, but it turned out to be a good distraction. The older guy to whom I was referring is a relative unknown that won for screeplay writing. I remember the actor Eli Wallach, but missed the part where he was honored. I fell asleep (half)watching it to be honest. I hate to sound cynical and apathetic about politics, but I have neither love for nor hope in any of the current political parties and their candidates. But, because of the SW and for the sake of change, I want PDP defeated and humbled.Cynicism, or at the very least, skepticism, is to be expected. I certainly fluctuate between the two when it come to political affairs. Yes, not a great supporter of any party. The party that we've historically supported, ACN, has itself undergone so many incarnations. Hope it survives its current benefactor. ![]() |
Watching the Academy Awards: I particularly like the opening of the acceptance speech by the old guy that just won for screenplay: "My father always told me that I was a late bloomer." He was teary-eyed when he was announced as winner, looking dazed as he got up to walk up the steps to the stage, so you just know he's going to say something personal. Nice! First time to be nominated; first time to win; oldest winner in that category, maybe at the Oscars period. Kirk Douglas was pretty cool too. That old guy had a stroke like a decade ago, but he's still hanging in there. I was actually surprised to see him; wasn't sure he was still around. |
I want to update the thread with some news happening here in the SE USA. Also this drama going on Wisconsin. I'd love to hear from Naijas in Wisconsin. I saw their new governor on a news show this morning. Maybe I'll post about the Oscars if I watch it. Some Foreign entertainment news. If I can mention a Naija artist attending the event, even better. There's that Naija guy that produces all those popular coming-of-age stories whose name I can't recall. ![]() |
naijababe:I actually don't mind the typing, but when something gets misunderstood cos you can't fully communicate "tone" or hear laughter in someone's voice I always feel like electronic communication, other than via telephone, is more trouble than it is worth. |
naijababe:Yes, don't mind me o jare. My charm is in person. Text, IM and Online messages is not for me. You can't hear tone of voice or slight sarcasm in any of those things. It'll be my downfall eventually. Can we go back to the old days when there were no computers and Emails. |
OAM4J:Well, she is pretty feisty. But she did say she gets out all the aggression on NL and is as sweet as pie in her personal life. If she were the pistol that she is here, don't know how a Yoruba man will deal with that. lol. ![]() |

OAM4J:I agree. I can't conceive of any chance of him losing. I mean, what can happen in 2 months? I assume it's all locked and loaded. Too late in the game for any political machination to hold sway. Also, once he gets his second term, I see him finding it easier to assert himself independent of any benefactors. The man will always have support; his father and the family at large are a part of Lagos Island. Their history goes back pretty far in Isale Gangan area, actually, the street. lol. Actually GEJ is still the candidate to beat. Not because of his power of incumbency, but because the progressive refused to unite. The crux of my presentation was that the incumbent, all things being equal, has the bigger chance of winning. Add to that the fact that PDP seems to have a wider tent than the other parties. And I haven't seen any polls that lead me to think any individual or any party support is greater than GEJ's or PDP. So, you think if maybe another party merges with Buhari or Ribadu, they have a better chance? Who will make that sacrifice. Imagine the aforementioned - Buhari and Ribadu coming together, i guess Ribadu would have to drop down to VP candidate and Bakare and Adeola can go back to their respective professions, albeit more famous/infamous. Jut speculating here. No inside info on that. lol |
Where is FStranger lately? I am missing Kilode?! What have the Japs done to Katz? Dayokanu is busy with the womenfolk all over NL. Anyway, some more fluff: Quizzes Quizzes Quizzes. http://www.blogthings.com/howsarcasticareyouquiz/ How Sarcastic Are You? naijababe:Straight to the point! Thanks, sis. E se o. A dupe. How's your day going? Still feisty as ever, I see. BTW, is your husband Naija? Salud!I'd hate to see him even consider abandoning ACN because of one man. That'd be outrageous! I'll post more about it when I hear. My source mentioned no such thing. But our main subject was not Fashola so I didn't use my time to ask follow-up questions. Next time. . . |
Some inside info on our dearest Governor Fashola: So, I was speaking to someone in the know about Fashola, and found out amongst other things, that the governor is practically walking on eggshells, due to the suspicion that Tinubu and his people are not totally for him - despite the public display of support and publicity photos we all were treated to recently. It is too bad a governor who has proven himself over this 4 years may still need to kowtow to some political "godfather." 1) Nigerians abroad and at home I'd like to hear your take. 2) Lagos folks, are you for Fashola? And why the hell not?! ![]() Speaking of political godfathers, I was scanning the below topic about Buhari/Bakare candidacy opposite OBJ's choice. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-611008.0.html 3) My question is, what are the chances that any of the challengers can dislodge President Jonathan from power? There is something called the power of incumbency. It is really hard for a challenger to defeat a sitting head of state, yes, even in good ol' U.S. of A. In November, 2004, on election day, the Kerry/Edwards ticket was leading, with smiles all around. I remember the TV news live updates and shots of Kerry's daughters' beaming faces, they were so sure they had it sown up, and as the poll results came in, Kerry was indeed leading. In the early evening interview with GWBush and his family, you could practically feel the sense of defeat. It turned around late in the evening, to most people's surprise. Yes, even where the popularity is dead even, an incumbent most always will pull ahead. . .just because. So, is Jarus going to cry himself to sleep on election night or will Beaf go into exile from NL? I know people that will be happy to see both those scenarios. lol. |
Great great thread. Classic post. Opened 3 years ago and hardly any response. hmmm. |
I am thouroughly confused. Anyway, NLers married to other NLers from their own mouth, and others that ought to be by now: Ifyalways said she is. Don't know his ID; could it be Chyz? ![]() Dayokanu and at least a dozen NL women and girls. Open relationships is the new monogamy. ![]() fstranger3:Not sold on this match. But OAM4J is a cool dude; he'll get lucky soon enough. ![]() |
Congrats to the new parents! ![]() |
OAM4J:Me confess? You confess! What is this: "mukina2's Bedroom." Anyway, my eyes are wide open now. ![]() |
OAM4J: Who told you you could read my posts? lolI know where you are. The region anyway. You are really close to me. If I wasn't so sleepy, I'd read your posts and find something to hang on you. ![]() BTW, I'm not an only child. |
OAM4J:Ah! Now who's speaking in codes? Al right, I'd like to guess. 1) What is the temperature right now where you are? Feel free to read my posts dear, am sure it will be interesting and worthwhileI'm going to do that. I doubt I'll be ![]() |
kisskriss:Best wishes for a better life for you. Good luck with the baby too. But that friend that told you to come here to share your troubles? I'd kick him to the curb. You're a very positive guy to somehow get something out of this thread, despite meanies like Dayokanu. ::SMH:: |
hackney:Tell them o. Build 'em up and tear 'em down. ![]() |
OAM4J:What'chu talking about, Willis?! I'm not completely sure who you're talking about, so we'll just pretend we didn't hear the "B" word. lol. Unless you want to remove all doubts. OAM4J:I didn't get a chance to finish the entire 3 page opinion piece yet, so can't discuss it intelligently. Otherwise I'd be thoroughly embarrassed - not that you would do that to me. So, where are you, OAM4J? What else do you go by? Share only what you feel like. I could go read your posts but I don't want to feel like a stalker tonight. |
Nigerians Abroad and at home: Here is an opinion piece Chinua Achebe did for a (USA) newspaper. It's a few weeks old, but it is still relevant and can be discussed. Things Fall Apart was a seminal work, but I'm ambivalent towards Achebe due to some of his poor later works, and other activities. Nigeria’s Promise, Africa’s Hope By CHINUA ACHEBE, Op-Ed Contributor Published: January 15, 2011 New York Times AFRICA has endured a tortured history of political instability and religious, racial and ethnic strife. In order to understand this bewildering, beautiful continent — and to grasp the complexity that is my home country, Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation — I think it is absolutely important that we examine the story of African people. In my mind, there are two parts to the story of the African peoples , the rain beating us obviously goes back at least half a millennium. And what is happening in Africa today is a result of what has been going on for 400 or 500 years, from the “discovery” of Africa by Europe, through the period of darkness that engulfed the continent during the trans-Atlantic slave trade and through the Berlin Conference of 1885. That controversial gathering of the leading European powers, which precipitated the “scramble for Africa,” we all know took place without African consultation or representation. It created new boundaries in ancient kingdoms, and nation-states resulting in disjointed, inexplicable, tension-prone countries today. blacksta:"wo ni eni ti wan ba ko ni ile wan ko ni ta." Not necessary. I got it. I'll leave you alone with your Egun-Yoruba. ![]() naijababe:Yup! Thought you'd like it. How can you not? ![]() |
PhysicsMHD:You hit nothing! Is that provocative enough for ya? hahaha. The "banned" replies were NOT spam-worth" in any way. All I said in each reply was: 1) that I thought we were cool on the infamous gay thread (which is where I met OAM4J, who is a mensch btw) and now you turned out to be a fair-weather friend to me; 2) that you better behave yourself or I'd set Jaygetta on your a##! You remember him, right? The angry guy? Almost as angry as (a poster that shall remain unnamed), except JG only fights with one or two people at a time. Hi, JG! ::waves:: "As" is one my favorite Stevie Wonder songs though, so I'll lay off questioning this thread for now.So, still a wuss then. lol. ![]() And if you want to question the thread, there is no time like the present. ![]() Note: The above was not PROVOCATIVE. It is what is called BANTER! ![]() |
naijababe:Try either of the below links. Same song: Tony Terry, "When I'm With You." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR-e5KJzREc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=191HN0mWmOs |
naijababe:Well, tell me your secret. I am stressed to pieces. hahaha. naijababe:That is a neat song. Not sure I ever heard it before. Here's another song I want you to hear. The video is cheesy as always, but that song is one of the best love songs ever. I can imagine countless couples used that at their wedding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlqJyZg_3-o |
