birdman: that is the creepiest Jesus I have ever seenI really didn't know what to make of it. But I am not emotionally invested in any particular image or preconceived ideas of what Jesus looked like. I remembered a Nairaland thread where someone was asking, "What do Black people think Jesus looked like." But I can't find the thread. So, I created this. I wondered if more people would find different images as well. BTW, I saw that "creepiest" image while reading a forum discussion about a Fox News presenter's comment about Jesus's appearance/race. |
I kinda liked Bashir though. He was not much different from many MSNBC commentators since the popularity of their former leader Keith Olbermann. They thought they could be as left-wing and anti-Conservatives as they wanted and that was fine with the network. They got away with it for so long, so I am sure Bashir didn't think he could go too far bashing Palin. He should have left that kind of political warfare to the experts. lol. Like the guy at 5pm who undoubtedly was one of those local political activist and union organisers in his younger days. Can't recall his name now. Bashir is one of those 2nd generation British Asians who were likely radicalised by their experience with racism in England in the 80s and 90s. Even though his family was not Muslim, he would have felt the sting of discrimination that many were fighting against in those days. I can see his anti-establishment leanings a mile away. Interesting guy. |
Mourinho is happy. ![]() |
Actually, I don't know why he's not visible. I haven't been in touch with him. lol. I was just offering my own excuse if I were in his shoes. He can speak for himself. Ngbo, Chairman, why you no dey show face again nau? Nairaland, I hail o. At least I can say, I (re)learned Pidgin English in the 3+ years I've been here. ![]() |
I was wondering why Martin Bashir's show was no longer on MSNBC. So, I decided to do a brief search online. Sarah Palin comments and resignation from MSNBChttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Bashir#Sarah_Palin_comments_and_resignation_from_MSNBC Of course, I had to click and click every hyperlink. That's the beauty of Wiki, no? You can do the same: Derby's Dose; "The runaway would be beaten, and salt pickle, lime juice, and bird pepper would be rubbed into his or her open wounds. Another slave would defecate into the mouth of the miscreant, who would then be gagged for four to five hours."[1] The punishment was invented by Thomas Thistlewood, a slave overseer and named for the slave, Derby, who was made to undergo this punishment when he was caught eating young sugar cane stalks in the field on May 25 1756. Thomas Thistlewood. Thistlewood was not an uneducated man. He was a prolific book buyer and reader; he practiced medicine on his slaves and was something of an expert in botany and horticulture. Although Trevor Burnard at one point calls Thistlewood "a brutal sociopath," he generally suggests that Thistlewood's treatment of his slaves was not that unusual. Unlike Landon Carter and other rich eighteenth-century Virginia planters, who often developed a paternalistic attitude toward their slaves, most Jamaican whites were convinced that only the severe application of brute force could keep the numerous African slaves under control. And it was largely an African slave population, dependent on continual importations from Africa. The rate of mortality was so high and the birth rate so low among the slaves that they could not reproduce themselves. "As a result," writes Burnard, "white Jamaicans bought rather than bred their labor force and were the mainstays of the flourishing British slave trade." In fact, one third of all slaves brought to the New World in British carriers ended up in Jamaica. Such was the death rate that a half-million slaves had to be imported in order to increase the island's slave population by a quarter of a million. Not only were whites in short supply but their sex ratio was skewed, with 3.1 adult men to one adult woman. Thistlewood never married an Englishwoman but satisfied his quite formidable sexual drive by exploiting the slaves who were all around him. During his thirty-seven years in Jamaica he dutifully entered into his diary his 3,852 acts of rape and/or sexual intercourse with 138 women, nearly all of whom were black slaves. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Thistlewood Be warned. Enough said. ![]() |
He's too busy working and moderating to comment nau. Busy man. Politics section is too much joo. BTW, I didn't realise Django was a real name until I saw this a couple of days ago: Siddig and his co-star Nana Visitor started dating and the couple were married; their son, Django El Tahir El Siddig, was born on 16 September 1996.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Siddig |
-AP via Gawker: Today (December 13) in Yemen, 13 people were killed in what was reportedly an erroneous drone strike by the American government. According to Yemeni officials, a caravan was traveling in central Yemen on its way to a wedding when it was hit by missiles fired from a drone, leaving bodies burned and vehicles ablaze in the middle of the road. Intelligence sources speaking to the AP attributed the incident to a drone that mistook the party for a convoy of al-Qaeda fighters, while another said that al-Qaeda fighters were believed to be traveling with the group. American officials have a demonstrated history of underreporting the true number of civilians killed by drones across the Middle East. This past Monday, three people were killed by a drone in east Yemen, while in 2008, 63 people died in a drone strike that hit a wedding in Afghanistan. In May, CODEPINK's Medea Benjamin challenged President Obama's record of drone strikes during a national security speech. http://gawker.com/another-screwed-up-drone-strike-leaves-13-dead-in-yemen-1482347724 |
