PoliticsRe: Know Your Legislators by isalegan2(op): 6:16pm On Dec 10, 2013
I personally believe that All Politics is Local. While there is more prestige in national positions - with even those in (USA/Nigeria/Anywhere) Lower houses usually desirous of an opportunity to get promoted via elections into the Upper House/Senate - I believe that those constituents who seek direct help from their elected officials should initially focus their attention on making contact with their local/state officials.

A state assemblyman lives and works in his constituency, unlike national officials who work, and most of the time reside, in the federal capital - far away from their electorate. They are all there to serve you. And they cannot avoid the daily problems of their community since they have to live there and face the (discontent of) people.

Do not let the national officials Reps and Senators get away with doing nothing either. But start with those local ones. They will have to pay attention, because they know you can show up at their office and the assembly with placards and embarrass them. When communicating with them, remember to always be peaceful and courteous. No one responds favourably to insults and threats.

Below is info on the Local/State level as posted on the official Abia State government website. I have removed their e-mails. Please click link to get that and more information about all the state's government agencies, including the Governor's office and the Judiciary.

GenBuhari: Why only 8 house of Reps members for Abia?
My guess is that the allotted number of state representatives in the lower house is based on population distribution. (Which is why there tends to be a lot of conflict surrounding population census, everywhere! Not just Nigeria.) But each state has equal number of officials (3) in the Senate. It's like that in almost all national legislatures that I am aware of - usually those with an Upper House and a Lower House.

CultureRe: How Do I Convince My Igbo Husband To Teach Our Children Igbo by isalegan2: 12:12am On Dec 10, 2013
I've also seen a situation where a household is bi-lingual, but for some reason the youngest child at almost 2 years old was unable to speak audibly. It may be the child had other developmental disabilities, but I've often wondered why that particular child out of 3 or 4 (perfectly bilingual 4-12yr old) children in the home, was the only one that could barely speak any language at all! Most children his age he was around were speaking and hearing, and were very capable of expressing themselves and carrying on a mini-conversation with adults and other children.

So, it's probably important to not confuse the child with too many languages and end up with a non-talking 2 year old.

Note that the people above are not Nigerians - not even half.

Personally, my friends's daughter (who lived in USA at the time) was speaking English and understood Yoruba at 2 years old, but I just don't know the magic trick to getting there.

VICTORCIZA: This has made me realise that Apc and thier goons here on nairaland and other social network are not representing majority of southwest like they are trying to make us believe.they are always trying to confuse us that Gej is rejected by every Yoruba man, they are sayin it to justify thier pay.
Things aren't nearly as polarised in real life as they appear on Nairaland. In this realm, it is unfortunate the way debates degenerate quickly into tribal bashing and the groups seem to get further and further apart. Though I don't think most of it is because they're getting paid to do so. undecided

I'd personally like to see the African man and woman see other Africans as family/blood regardless of tribe or ethnicity.

BTW, I hope your friend authorised you to post his/her full name and location.
PoliticsRe: Let's Have Your Complaints, Suggestions & Enquiries Here by isalegan2: 6:46pm On Dec 09, 2013
OAM4J: It is easier for me to address your complaints when you supply the necessary links to the threads/posts you are complaining about else you add more to my task by 1st searching for the thread(s) in question. If there is a duplicate thread, please let me have the link of the duplicate thread so I can lock and link it to the main one.
Thanks.
I understand. Thank you very much. Especially for taking the time to write me such a long post. I know you're the chairman of all moderators now (I can't use the "moderator of all moderators" line anymore since Seun stole it! angry ) and OAM4J hardly ever posts anymore. grin

In most cases, I will supply a link. But in a situation where I strongly object to the circulation or proliferation of certain objectionable items, I can not in good conscience then lead more potentially innocent people to it. I am sure you respect my position.

In such instances, I will follow up my unlinked post, by using the Report to Moderator button to get your attention to the relevant thread. (I will look to see if the 2nd thread is still in this section and "Report" it to be moved.)

I will have to accept that you're unable to remove the video. I mainly wanted the 2nd thread moved to the right section, and similarly tagged with whatever warning you attached to the 1st one.

Have a good day. smiley

ilugunboy: Am not denying that as a matter of fact.....but the perception that he is Igbo-eccentric is a minus for him...considering the sensitivities of such matter here.

I don't equally have an idea of where he is.....but that doesn't not precludes the fact that his biases and leaning is towards issues concerning the Hausa/Fulani....

Not that I would mind him being a Mod though...since I believe he has the temperament for the job.

Not at all.

Overall..whereas Ngwakwe has clearly defined where his allegiance lies....he clearly won't be able to resist some clear temptations.

ndu-chuks can balance issues relatively better than Ngwakwe though....so I will pick ndu.
I like your conclusion. However, I must address one claim of yours.

I don't agree with the bolded above, that, ". . . his biases and leaning is towards issues concerning the Hausa/Fulani. . ."

I think it is evident that Ndu_Chucks's biases are with "One Nigeria." A bias towards Hausa/Fulani may be argued, but it's not apparent, and I would need convincing.

Of course, if Seun wants Hausa/Fulani moderator, then hellz Yelz, Ndu_Chucks is your man woman ideal candidate! cheesy

Why Do Whites Love Mandela And Hate Mugabe?

Because they want a forgiving negro more than one that will stand up and pay them back in kind for all the injustices and persecutions they've wrought on people of colour all over the world. Imagine the fear in them. Just imagine. They ask you to swallow indignities that they never would. So, of course they know it is in their interest and their children's interest to elevate a former victim that turns the other cheek. Not one that remembers and may seek vengeance or demand restitution.

I remember someone commenting on Farakhan's "Day of Atonement March" many years ago. This person, on TV - a woman on the street talking to a reporter, I think - said, "Look at this, a public day of atonement for Black people; why not ask those who have done the most evil and put many Black people in the position they continue to fight to overcome, to atone for all their sins?!"
