PoliticsRe: Jonathan Releases 155-page Book On His Achievements by Iskra: 10:36am On Sep 17, 2012
auwal...I am hoping this is not the auwal I know...have you read the quote that says a people who forget to learn the mistakes of history will repeat the mistakes of history. But more importantly, it is the measure of a sane and balanced mind to look at issues wholistically. For if you allude with such a simplistic mind that GEJ is the current president. I would say you are right but also wrong to absolve the rot and detritus imposed on us by Northern leaders with a most narrow mindset and rabid penchant for thievery.Even though they set the stage we are hoping that with reforms(gradual and acceleraTED BECAUSE WE NEED A MIX OF BOTH)things will begin to change.

PoliticsRe: Obama Declares Nigeria As The World’s Next-Economic Giant by Iskra: 4:48pm On Aug 28, 2012
It is nice to understand the forum in which this sudden change of heart and stance declaration was made. I am no diplomat but we can at least decide to make use of some critical thinking i analysing the comments coming from Obama's white house.

Reading the original piece, you can not but fail to recognise this statement was being made at a Nigerians in Diapora forum on Trade and Investment. I will lay down a few talking points which is freely open to debate as I have earlier stated for those who might choose to be quick to shoot me down without properly reading first what has been stated prior to now.

1. This is an election year in the US...do we have any ideas what the statistics says about the population of nigerians who are now bonafide US citizens and who are eligible to vote. It doesnt go to far to say Nigerians by some default mind set will choose the democratic party instead of the republican party. But since politicians will remain politicians, Obama drumming up his sudden suppport for Nigeria through Nigerians in Diaspora should be looked at closely

2. When a country like the US says they are interested in "African growth", you might as well and just easily substitute African growth with "US encroachment" when the US says they are working for african growth it synonymous with asserting very cunningly that they are looking for ways to encroach into African territory for reasons best known to them but also not too far from what we already know when we look at how they have helped African growth in some well known african countries that are now deep in several levels of nightmarish economic ans social problems

3. When the US talks of Seeking opprtunity, you could as well easily replace the word opprotunity for us Africans with the phrase "We are seeking to foster by any methods available from our bag of dubious tricks and cunning the means to influence to our utmost benefit and if need be to your detriment the imbalance of trade "

4. Then Liberalisation is spoken of here like it is meant to connote freedom to choose and freedom to thorw open your market and country to US made goods but we must be mindful of the fact that Liberalisation doesnt mean freedom, it could just as well mean freedom to choose how you want to be re-enslaved economically and of course from economic slavery flows every other type of slavery.

These are not fixed thoughts, just one way of looking at all this publicity targeting the nigerians in Diaspora in an Electoral year that promises to be very not so easy for Mr Obama.(culled from myself)

@ Olodostein...I must credit you because your reputation precedes you but very sadly that same reputation which is stamped in the nomenclature you have chosen to use on NL or rather on this topic...to my comments precludes you...I see you are a good posturer...Olodo with some help from anything other than devine you might one day tend towards einstein.

I will ask you why you have chosen to continue using cold war technology. Why dont you cease to use it in protest because it was meant to be used for cold war. why do you even sit on that computer of yours at all. you shuld rather have gone back to whereever you came from and telepathically joined this discourse on NL. Then maybe you might have some true sense of existing.

You think I care what they launch it for, I care for one thing...going forward, it doesnt have to be for my sake. If you must know after this I wont mind you either...you cease to exist. Like in the real world...there are actors and then there is just statistic...go figure.....you shine with ignorance, I wish it was carefully coated with real wisdom. Inform if you must, take issues if you must, but it doesnt change my reality or yours or the fact that the Rover is right now being controlled remotely from earth and doing some very interesting things too.

Sorry i must confess my ignorance in not even knowing what your point is...I will not hide this fact...Are you just trying to be a smart talker or you would want to do your ego more harm than good
Science/TechnologyRe: NASA Spacecraft "Curiosity" Lands On Mars. Returns Photos Of Martian Landscape. by Iskra: 6:06pm On Aug 06, 2012
@ Centje...its nice to read your post but not for the reason that what you say makes much sense. maybe you are not just expressing yourself clearly, so I will give you the benefit of the doubt...or rather the benefit of another post which is better articulated...I might state though, that on NL communication should be the aim of our entire discourse. And please do this is what ever language bests suites you I am sure someone else can come and explain in Flawlessly written english... To your post, do you really think that curiosity was launched as some lotto-like display of let us see if this is possible. do you think before the "Well spent billions" were allocated for that project, nobody vetted the pros and cons of going to mars. This is not some hapharzard attempt at exploration, it is a well thought out and clearly defined goal oriented mission. That they dont tell you does not mean that they dont know what they are looking for. I know that sometimes it is difficult for some of us to wrap our minds around matters like this, but then that is no fault of Americas or your parents who gave birth to you or even the school you attended. Your mind is as enlightened as you let it. Educated doesnt mean you have gone to the best schools, education means you have taken your mind to the far reaches of nature and all it has to offer and you have contemplated it unbiasedly. You have questionned it and not said ..no oooh our pastor or imam or our village witch say make we no ask that kain question. Question everything including the one your parents believed in before you were born.

Curiosity is a great mile stone for humanity once again...if you dont want to celebrate it...never mind it doesnt matter, it will do what is meant to do and those who will benefit will benefit wheather you believe it or not. You are shouting about going to Mars, do you know the plans are on ground to leap even further. you can not limit the human race to this small earth, it is bound to happen ...there is nothing we(believers or nonbelievers) can do about it.
Science/TechnologyRe: NASA Spacecraft "Curiosity" Lands On Mars. Returns Photos Of Martian Landscape. by Iskra: 5:46pm On Aug 06, 2012
NLanders shouldnt always be quick to jump on the Band wagon of ignorance...when you dont know, the primary thing to do is try to at least learn. I would want to speak generally about space exploration and its benefits. First of all, why do we even need to explore. you could pose a similar but closer to home question like, why do you have to leave your home at all. why not be given birth to, grow all your food, get all your resources under the same roof. already you are reading me describe an utter absurdity and practical impossibility. We explore because our needs can only be met from us going out to search. By nature, man(I mean every right thinking man)is a being of curiosity(very interesting because coincidentally this is the same name given to the Mars rover), and this curiosity may take different forms (hopefully it is driven by the right type of goals). Space exploration has not only been beneficial to man but it has accelerated by leaps and bounds the current development found on earth. From the way we communicate(GPS,phones, internet TV(even thought TV make us more dumb when all we watch is rubbish)) to the materials we have today available for building our houses, making our tools and equipment, cars etc. If these benefits have not reached you in one form or another, then you definitely must be living out of planet earth. Space exploration leads to products which are called spin-offs...and it is these spin-offs that power a lot of companies...because the main space agencies which do real research licence commercial partners to produce items from technologies they(space agencies) have incubated and mastered.

So to move this discussion forward a bit. If you think going to space and exploring new frontiers is a waste of time...your mind is definitely in a sorry state and must be transformed by real studying what this portends for the human race. I am sure such minds would have also said there was no need trying to fly in air or cross large oceans and seas. This is the mind set of those who fail to question the status quo, we are right where we are (backward and happy but yet suffering)because of this same mentality. The human spirit is meant to do great things and untill we stop listening to pastors and Imams, out of fashion professors teaching out of fashion syllabi and fake witch doctors and government propagandists telling us how to think...every development of man will be seen as a waste of time. The laws of nature must be obeyed wheather you like it or not. reform or die. and such reform is never in joining the bandwagon to do what is wrong, because nature by its very design recoils at evil and injustice and ignorance...that is why you can be sure to get uprisings and killings and crime in societies that have defied these eternal laws while those that have tried the most to obey them...reap the fruits.

Exploring space is a necessity, if it is not your point of view, then shut up and fight over your fathers plot of land...one day it wont even be yours.

@jamace...you really thinnk or you are sure the president was paying lip service...not evryone is a hypocrite like you think. If he was silent...that would have pleased your reversed thinking better...you are the type that sees enemies flocking everywhere around you but for the enemy inside you which runs riot unabated. when you show me your license in practicing psychology and your precedence in correctly identifying such behavior as the president showed then maybe you will begin to have some good listening...for now go back and be schooled on what party politics is all about.

Its exactly people like you that is the problem with our democracy...full of ignorance and bursting with pride. You are the kind of people who wouldnt allow a free and fair election. GO and read about what party politics means and then come back and maybe say you were ignorant about the comment you made about GEJ...all said...great job Oshio...let godfatherism die its death...not natural but forced death....and above all these...let ignorance which is almost as bad as corruption in Nigeria die a forced death...Its a shame not to be educated and practice such education....and I am not talking classroom education.

@Pk001...Just as an aside, because you said you never used to like Keyamo...and my question is this...For what reason did you never like him, have you ever known him in any personal, near or far removed capacity? Or this is just one of those trying to sound intelligent analysis or rather opinion grounded on air. Its general to think about the reasons for our liking or disliking people we know nothing of...Personally, I neither like or dislike Keyamo(or any other person I have never had some form of interaction with) because I have never met him or had any thing with him...should this logic be correct and followed?I have my answer but furnish yourself with yours

@ghostofsparta...I love this ur post sha...unleash it on all these mealy mouthed religious gays and prostitutes who no nothing about deity...the very reason why our society is decrepit and sunken into deep slumber is becos of these religions of strangers who have come to subjugate not just our bodies but most especially our minds. These touristic religions that require you to visit and spend your money each year...when you dont have..then go and borrow and come and be reminded of the lies that were told and perpetuated over time.true deity does laugh at this charade and those who know should keep saying it.The religions of christianity, islam and any other one that may rear its head in the future needs to be checked.I must be clear though..its religion that is the problem....and not spirituality...for the one is different from the other and they dont have anything in common.

Lets ask ourselves some questions :

Has anyone at dana air ever given a bribe to get into nigerian market(because it starts here and everyother thing that follows is just the domino effect),to fly a faulty aircraft,to falsify records to show that a plane was air worthy when it wasn't to an officila of government or a servicing company.Have they ever cut corners or lowered standards in the name of doing business in nigeria.Did that particular plane and other aircraft flying our skies fly based on internationally acceptable best standards or it flew on the premise that it was over nigerian skies. Could that plane have flown in or taken off in Ghana before we speak of UK or US or germany...Was it still worthy to be called an aircraft as at when it was taking off?

Not to be too serious but to add a playful spin this thread...You think if you strike the sheperd the sheep will scatter(this is an example of the I just want to sday something that sopunds intelligent speech i spoke of) sorry to tell you that in nigeria..strike the sheperd and a more corrupt sheperd has ben bred in its place...unless this was a sheperd of sound conviction...And for those who think many nigerians in their places of work are hard working and not corrupt...I ask have they been in positions where they had to option to be hard working or not and still earn an equal or more pay...because most of the people and practices we call corrupt are all tied to degrees. we..everyone from leaders to the led were all once children and went to one sunday school or mosque or primary school and did social studies and learnt civic responsibilities and the whole package of what makes for a responsible citizen but then the corruption remains and these same angels ..because many parents at one time or the other thought their children so even though the reality might be starkly different as adults...for these same children are the thieves, are the scoundrels, are the corrupt, are the unfeeling, the cult gang member they are me and you.they are the most notable face of nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Are We Any Better Than The Leaders We Condemn ? by Iskra: 9:25am On Jun 04, 2012
Tis a very interesting topic to bring up but then its thrashing the same old horse some others might say, and the response is why not?lets keep thrashing it until this horse dies(i mean we kill it) or if it refuses to die until it walks into the sea(being suicidal but this is most unlikely with corruption). We are a nation of frankensteins.we are the most vivid example of a people who is without any externally caused trauma, yet sick with multiple personality disorders of the self inflicted kind.I fear to judge but I don’t fear to state the truth I know and to live by it.This is what Nigerians need,I am not perfect,I have been corrupt because I have participated in acts of corruption yet the situations in which such corrupt acts were performed and in what direction it flowed doesn’t really matter. What do we need in Nigeria?Leaders with conviction…it sounds a lazy or easily glossed over word but our needs are summed up in the word “conviction”.for it is this and this alone that makes men who they are.It is this that creates the resolve to do the right thing, come what may and not minding where the cards fall.It is this that makes men constant in their endeavors..be it evil or good.A man with conviction can’t deceive the electorate.because we apriori know who he is and his ilk is not hidden from us.That is why I say we are a nation of frankensteins. We have pastors more venomous than snakes, imams more blood thirsthry than leeches, leaders more thieving than scoundrels,it goes on and on and on to our teachers and parents and ourselves…because we have families and homes sicker than anything needing life support. It is good to give speeches…but most times I read and hear us speak not out of conviction but out of self praise and seeking for someone to say he speaks well or that was a good speech and then we recoil into our havens of self conceited fame and glory and warped intelligence. It will get us no where.we are a nation of frankensteins and not men or individuals. The solution is not church or mosque or government…it lies with us.We must all live with conviction and my dear friends…conviction is worn on the sleeves …it is not announced but it is there for all to see.I have to make it clear though..We need men of sound conviction…This is an except from my essays...it can be used but state the source..oveseovese@gmail.com

I find this interesting but not much of news.Thats the fact that an earth quake could occur off the coast of west africa and be reported to us by Americans.I understand that they have got all sorts of assets lining the ocean bed but it should tell you aboput the state of affairs of our nations preparedness for anything good or bad.It should not be miscontrued as a recent thing, its the rot that has existed from repeated mismanagement and lack of directional focus on where the nation should be headed.

EducationRe: 5 Dead In Moshood Abiola Polythecnic Cult Clash by Iskra: 1:14pm On Feb 03, 2012
@Okija-juju, Its sad you express such sentiments that is best left for the myopic and degraded mind.what does "ajebutta" mean in this case. What has ajebuttism got to do with carrying a gun and killing another student or anybody for that matter. It is Kpakos like you that would piss in their pants when they were under some stress less arduous than having to know you were about to die.
So from your comments you ascribe to such behavior and your acceptance of these school gangs"cults" is revealing of your mindset and your persona.then it is people like you that are the weak within our society because you are only as good as the numbers behind you.You have lost your individuality and your voice.you are shell of a human being and that is what those boys are who just died, they were empty and as such they went the way of all those who are empty. We are a weak nation because of these Thugs and the obvious line of miscreants that bred them, who today occupy many places of power. And what do you see is the result of an empty shell leading anything or anyone at all not to speak of leading a country, the result is the eyesaw called Nigeria, you can never have ideas come out of an individual who is empty.Beacuse even when the best he can do is get people of brains around him,he quickly feels threatened by their presence and the cycle goes on.He is used to the bent and distorted cult(school gang) mentality of the crowd and nothing but the crowd. He cant think, shit, piss without the crowd.I have done some research and found, allbeit not all the time, that the weakest and dullest from our secondary schools are first to join cults.Of course what do we expect.
For a student or any individual who has got something to offer.I leave you to guess what he might have been doing other than displaying such thuggery. For anyone who supports such behaviour, you must be checked and examined for it is lunacy in its brightest form.Nothing productive comes out of a student who belongs to our classic Nigerian school gangs, I can never call them cults, because if I asked what a cult was I am sure many of you school gang members wouldn't know the meaning if it was read out to you or if you saw it inside a book, but then most of them never read. They are after girls and drinks and eagerly pursue every opportunity at dispair to gratify their bent thinking, The idea of school gangs is one of the worst things eating at our society and letting it die would be good riddance to bad rubbish coming late but better still.
PoliticsRe: Sanusi Links Boko Haram To "oil Derivation". by Iskra: 1:29pm On Jan 28, 2012
@hero70, you seem to be one of those who give little thought to deep thought and fact checking. When you here the lame and baseless claims made by some northerners on the using of funds from the north to develop the south,I ask you when was this? Was this in nigeria as of pre-independence or post independence.were the northerners ever in any way more hardworking than the southern cocoa farmer or the rubber plantation owner or the palm produce farmer,or the large timber merchants, and you mention groundnut, what groundnut are you talking about.the oil we used to cook our meals maybe but don't speak lies and say the south was devel;oped by any form of northern funds, because the south was never developed by any funds from the north. Not especially when the government of the day was less centralised than now and the regions took care of their business first before making funds available to the center. That was why politics was less lucrative then.We should get facts straight and stop lame duck arguments on a forum that should celebrate maybe not truth but facts, fcats facts, let me give you some facts in the interest of fairness if your mind can take it.Before 1960 there werent any dams in the country.today we have several.these dams are mainly in the north, I want to ask you if they were built with groundnut funds, sorry though they are all products of the oil boom and southern blessings.A single dam like the one in kainji does not in any way compare with the funds the north sent to the center before independence when we still had a form of parliamentary system of government, soon we would here stories that the man in his village that knew nothing about kano or pyramids but sent his children to school on his hard earned funds from farming got his kids educated on northern money.if the funds were so great, why the backwardness still in thought and action, embrace facts and such fairytales as you claim here will evaporate before your face

While I encourage going out of your shores to see new places and may be get more enlightened as to the cultures of others especially in our increasingly globalised world,I don't believe visiting one or all the tombs of the said prophets gone by makes any difference. Its a waste of funds especially when these trips are paid for by the government but more than being a waste,it is one fundamental problem for our nation where hypocrisy is ostly the order of the day in things religious. We can be good men and women without visiting the tomb of anyone.there is no place more holy than the heart of one who reverences the humanity of everyone else no matter their chosen religious affiliations or philosophical leanings.may true knowledge end the days of hypocrisy of religion and any other form of hypocrisy that ensnares the minds of men

@overwhelmed, I will stop short of being a critic because thats not why u posted this. But we must go back and ask ourselves the hard questions. In this post @odiaero asked the first hard question and it was on my mind untill I saw it.I wondered why we let our thinking faculties switch off sometimes. The question should be asked what was the cause of his leaving school, but u seem not to be asking that.I don't care how much money u have to send him some place far away if the fundamentals are not addressed, you can send him to the moon, he would cause you even more heart ache.if he belonged to one of the gangs of miscreants which u find under various hollywood style appelations you should know that first his mental condition is far from normal and after falling for the first deceit of joining such gangs he has fallen for even more while he was within, so he is deep into several levels of deceit which no amount of sending abroad can cure. It's only getting him to completely do an about face on his understanding of the principles on which a good life should be lived that can help.Ask yourself where he learnt his habits and behavioural patterns from, and please dont be quick to say he didn't learn it from home, I love the holy books and some quotes in there, but I must say even if you "train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it, yes he will not depart from it when he is with you to deceive you into being comfortable with him, but I can assure you he can also learn and add new things, which might not fit the mold you trained him with.
