Obasanjo, Amosun in closed-door meeting after thanksgiving

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo



FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo caused a little surprise on Sunday when he showed up at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Abeokuta, venue of a thanksgiving service for the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.



The former President entered the church, located in Ake area of the state capital, while the service was on.



Obasanjo equally held a closed-door meeting with Amosun at the Presidential Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta after the church service, details of which were not known.



Addressing journalists after the thanksgivings service, the former President said he came to rejoice with the governor as a father of all Nigerians being the former head of state and president of the country.



“Having been Nigeria Head of state and President, all Nigerians are my sons and all Nigerians are my daughters but this Governor (Senator Amosun), by accident of birth, been born where I was born, so in a way, he is my son just like all other Nigerians are my sons,” he said.



Obasanjo advised Amosun to work and pray hard for a successful administration and do the best for the people of the state.



At the service, Amosun, cautioned elders and traditional rulers in the state against abuse of laws.



The governor of St. Peter, said the laws were above everybody, adding that all, whether rich or poor, must obey the law.



He added that his administration would not condone act of illegality from any quarters, assuring the traditional rulers and the state elders of cordial relationship at long as established laws were not infringed upon.



“Let me say that our traditional institutions and elders will be respected very well but, if at any time that respect is mistaken as a ticket to break laws,that would not be tolerated. Any of our elders that break laws would not be spared,” Amosun stated.



The cleric, Rev. Samuel Ogundeji, in his teaching at the service, urged Amosun to give priority to the education and health sectors in the state.



Ogundeji described the sectors as among those in dire need of attention.



“You must be concerned with the health, education, agriculture, roads, power and other sectors that will make people applaud your administration. Remember some people will complain but you must remain focus.



“I challenged you as you have come to give thanks to God today to commit to the Lord all you do and your plans will succeed,” he said.

Typical western imperialists, when the policy or programme threatens their interests it is flawed and unworkable but if it is from IMF and World Bank aimed at pauperizing and raping the poor in the third world, it becomes expert advice. The results of the House of Assembly in Oyo State are as follows

ACN 19 Seats
PDP  10 Seats
Accord 3 Seats

The governorship results are being collated as we speak and any other rumuor should be disregarded. By 3pm we will know the winner.

They will not die however, but rather their votes will speak loudly and your man can retire to Ghana and manage his newly built 96 room 4 star hotel or his house on Rotimi Williams Avenue in Bodija (he paid N115m for the property which used to belong to the British Embassy) . ACN won all the seats including Oyo North Senatorial district where Dr. Wale Okediran is the senator elect or Ibadan North Federal House where Tunde Awoleye floored Demola Omotosho of PDP. ACN won all the seats sha.

Guys write it down now and get it into your skulls, we will put forward Fashola in 2015 as the next president and will make sure he wins. The igbos lost the opportunity by backing this loser in 2011 after Buhari's one term we will make sure it comes back to southwest with Fashola as our pointsman. If you visit Ibadan and look at the state of the Suzuki taxis that was purchased by our bleaching governor, then you will know that someone has defrauded Enugu State with the taxis. But Kudos for initiative though if only many more governors can do this for their own people. Talking about governors, i have been here in Ondo State, Akure in particular since Wednesday and the difference in governance between Mimiko and Agagu is as clear as night and day; i frequented here under Agagu and i can safely say Mimiko is already far ahead of him in less than two years. Omisore, Oyinlola and Ooni have been moving around with N1.5b at N500m per judge to get three out of the five judges on the panel, information we have is that they have firm assurances from two of them but the third has refused to play ball as at last night. Please nairalanders, this story is as junk as they come and their is no iota of truth in it, i work closely with ACN here in Lagos and as at 2 minutes ago this story is so false and ultimately laughable, Tinubu's burning desire is to make sure we win Oyo and Ogun at the next elections, knowing fully well and in quiet optimism that Osun will fall in two Tuesdays time when the judgement is delivered. Once Tinubu controls the entire South West, then his next project is to enthrone true federalism where the regions will be semi-autonomous and financially independent. The South West is preparing for the day Niger Delta will put a lid on their generosity to the other parts of the country and that day is fast approaching, so rather than be caught napping, Southwest is preparing fully to be self sufficient. Once we have Osun, Ogun and Oyo under our belts, Tinubu cares less about what happens in Nigeria. Please take this from me as the workings of Tinubu and progressive Yoruba leaders mind and i laugh all time when i read here that without Niger Delta Oil the other parts will not survive, well very soon we shall see who will be begging people to buy oil.

Entry level doctors in Lagos are nearer 200k than 100k so please stop lying and if you now add allowances to it they about 200k. As for the strike, the doctors that is their national body NMA went to negotiate with the FG and came back with CONMESS (consolidated medical salary system) this new payment structure took their salaries to another stratosphere and we now have senior consultants earning about N1m a month. (Yes you read right one million naira per month)as take home. One of my kid brothers is a senior consultant in  federal hospital in Abuja and he went from roughly 340k a month to just over N1m. Now the state doctors now said since we are all doctors we want the same salary but from time immemorial Federal workers get more than State workers and it is unfair for the doctors to want to blackmail Lagos stateinto paying CONMESS that is not even in the state budget.
One other point we are missing is that doctors in Lagos State are among the highest paid among state doctors in the country and for them to jettison all the ethos of their hippocractic oath and turn into militants leaves a sour taste in the mouth. They have been on strike since August, yet every month end they go to the banks to draw salaries they have not worked for, when you elect to go into the medical line, your primary motive is humanitarian and then the rewards that comes with it, i worked as an Oracle Database Manager in the NHS in UK for 12 years and i saw first hand the commitment of doctors, nurses, auxilliary medical staff etc to the patients and indeed when they had pay disputes with the government and yes they had many, strike was never an option because of the oath they swore on induction.
Today however in Nigeria, we have Jankara and area boy mentality doctors who are in it for the money and nothing else, and until governments in Nigeria starts enforcing things like no work, no pay as it is in UK,  such shenanigans will not stop; if you think these set of doctors are not area boys, how do you explain the federal doctors in Lagos, who went on a 3 day strike since Tuesday, not because of pay, working conditions etc. but wait for this, in solidarity with their colleaagues in the state hospital. Guys this must stop and the first step is to fire these touts and employ doctors.

I will never partcipate in the childish Igbo v Yoruba insults being thrown around on this forum but i will say a word or two on the Aba i had the opportunity to visit for the first time two weeks ago for four days to conduct a trainning course. I reside during the week in Ikeja Lagos and the weekends in my place at Ibadan, i have always believed that Ibadan is dirty and believe me it is dirty but the bleaching governor seems to be waking up finally (maybe because of the coming elections) and he his taking the sanitation of the city seriously now, albeit slowly. However, my visit to Aba changed my opinion about Ibadan if you thought Ibadan was dirty, Aba takes the biscuit!!! how people can reside in that place beggars belief, the stench that permanently hangs in the air, the reprehensible refuse dumps all over the town, people defeacating in open refuse dumps in broad daylight and i am talking of adults male and female, the extremely horrible state of the roads in the commercial city, gosh!!! i had to curse the governor of that state and his predecessors for ignoring what should be the industrial nerve centre of Nigeria and possibly West-Africa. I pray the indigenes of Aba will take their town back and turn it around, Aba deserves a lot better than what is currently on offer if anything at all is on offer from what i saw; the criminal neglect of Aba is a crying shame on the entire eastern region and with the industriousness of the Aba people, it should not be too difficult to turn it into the Bangalore of Nigeria. Gosh!!! Aba is dirty, very dirty but it has no reason to remain so.
And yes i am not Ibo but the truth still has to be told without the fear of being labeled a tribalist.

For those of us doing business in Nigeria, this man has effectively killed the little gains of the Obasanjo years in his foolish haste to initiate his so-called reforms, banks are now awash with cash but not lending hence every sector is crippled and more job losses all round. Unfortunately, some people think it is an Akingbola/Ibru issue, failing to look at the wider implications of ill-informed and ill thought policies. I came back to Nigeria in 2007 and i can state categorically that the prospect has never looked so bleak i have had to lay off 23 staff this year alone and put another 10 on half salary hoping things will turn around. If Sanusi is not sacked by June this country will grind to a halt it is as simple as that can you imagine banks turning away deposits because they cant afford to keep it? the ones they have they are paying less than 1%?

This is a man that used to beat his present second wife Yeye Olufunke black and blue in those days and i am talking of early 90s, Olufunke is not his first wife for those who don't know, she graduated in English from UI in 1987. Anyway Gbenga Daniel will beat the hell out of her after every little disagreement at their abode in Ilupeju Lagos and she will come running to my cousin who was then her closest friend. Guys i delibrately stayed out of this thread for a while and allow Nairalanders to pass comments on falsehood, i don't know which AIT is owing 4 months salary because my sister who stays with me here in Lagos and is an editor with the organisation has not been owed a dime in her 23 months of working with the company she has indeed had two substantial increases to her salary and she found it amusing when i pointed out the Saharareporters story to her. My sister was previously CBS in America before relocating after her masters degree just over 2 years ago and i know she will not work for anyone without pay; as we type they have just concluded a recruitment exercise for presenters/newscasters and two of the new intakes came from Atlanta and London respectively and if anyone is subscribed to Daarsat, you should be seeing them on your screens soon.

Guys Abati was born in 1966 and got his Ph.D at 24 or 25 so at the age of 43 i am not so sure his generation failed Nigeria. We may not agree with his views but i believe he has set the ball rolling for a very rigorous intellectual discourse on modern day music in Nigeria and attacking him personally will be a shame and the purpose of the article will be completely lost in such drivel. Once again Abati is not of the older generation for records purposes.

I waited 7 months before they came back to me with a start date but thankfully another bank offered me an AGM position with a far better pay than First Bank was offering. You need to be patient with them there recruitment process has to be one of the slowest in the world, but they are a good organisation to work for particularly if your grade is Senior Manager upwards. For Nigerians in diaspora thinking of relocating, though it is not for everyone you must be convinced that you are prepared to face the challenges of motherland, the opportunities are here and yes there is a slowdown in the economy presently it wont be for ever and the boom years will return albeit on a more controlled level.
Age must not be a barrier i made my move in 2007, 4 months before my 40th birthday in January 2008 and did not get my present job until November last year but eh those 16 months for me was a learning period particularly because i was engaged in private business to keep body and soul together and also maintain my family and mortgages in UK, a friend of mine relocated from Houston after 25years in USA he started working for CHAMS a leading IT firm in January and he is very well paid and guess his age? 48 years young. What i am saying in effect is that if you have it in mind to come dont think you are too young or old one of my ED's in my bank is 37 years old. The more diasporans we have in the system the better for the country in my opinion we can bring our knowledge of several years abroad home to cobine with the excellent home grown skills and together we have a virile country.

My last Salary as an IT contractor whilst living and working in UK until early last year was 90k in pounds sterling, i now earn N11m as AGM group strategy in a bank in Nigeria and my lifestyle is far better off than when i was in London and the added bonus is the fact that i am back in Nigeria after 17years in Europe. My point is to correct the illogical comparisons in exchange rate of salaries in America and Europe with what obtains in Nigeria. N6m insterling conversion is about 25k but the standard of living of the N6m earner will be far higher than the 25k earner in London.

My daughter who turns 7 in 3 weeks was being bullied in school in London at the age of 5, she complained to me a few times and my wife had a word with the teachers but it continued i then took my daughter out one weekend to London Aquarium and i spoke to her at length (please dont think a 5year old is too young to be spoken to) during the train ride and advised her to give the boy a good going over knowing fully well my girl is the tallest in her class anyway, i explained to her that she must not be coming home to tell mum and dad of such things again and must learn to stand up for herself.
About a month after, we got a letter from the school that we should come in and i went to see the school head who informed me that my daughter gave a boy a black eye and the boy is off school i simply told the head to check her records and find out how many times during that term has my wife come in to complain about bullying my daughter and nothing was done about it i then informed her that i should be contacting my solicitors to write the school and warn them of the consequences of their incompetence. Maybe she thought i was kidding, 4 days later my solicitors wrote the school and theatened to take legal action if nothing was done; the school head beat a retreat, wrote me a 3 page letter apologising and promising that the boy will be kept under watch from now on and also admitted that indeed other kids had complained about Jamie.
I dont like violence but in my daughters case we were at our wits end because we know that she is not someone to be messed with but at the same time she wont hurt a fly today she is in her school council as the representative of her year.

Ajimobi will be sworn in tomorrow morning as the Governor of Oyo State in a unanimous judgement that will be delivered this afternoon, the appeal court judges nullified the entire elections in the 4 local govts from Ogbomoso district, added the remaining 29 local govts and Ajimobi had 59% as opposed to Akala's 41% do not ask me where i got my information from because i wont tell anyway but i can say my source is 100% correct.
