The former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh sympathizes with the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, who slumped at a public function at the Presidential villa earlier today.

Chief Metuh notes that the development not only points to the frailties of human beings but also to the fact that anybody, irrespective of age and apparent vitality, can be confronted with a serious health challenge at any point.

The former PDP spokesperson notes that if such can happen to the youthful Commission’s chairman, who is not even under the stress of trial, then it should serve as a lesson to the EFCC, particularly, its media department, on the impropriety of labelling and making mockery of defendants and suspects confronted with health challenges.

Nigerians can recall how the EFCC had gone to the media to unjustly label, mock and deride Chief Metuh when he fell ill during his trial; how he was forced to attend court on hospital stretcher, wheelchair and crutches, and how he was denied access to medical treatment despite manifest traumatic and life-threatening health challenge he faced.

Nigerians can recall how the EFCC mocked and satirized Chief Metuh when he collapsed in the courtroom on one of the days he was forced to come to court despite his health challenge.

Chief Metuh counsels the EFCC Chairman to immediately get medical attention so as not to experience the pains, complications, trauma and dangers he (Metuh) faced when he was denied access to medical treatment by Justice Okon Abang following the hardstand adopted by the EFCC, which he now chairs.

In the same vein, Chief Metuh urges Nigerians, especially those with busy and tasking schedules, to pay more attention to their health situation so as to avoid such scenarios.

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, on Sunday, condemned the submission of a forensic audit report on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Frank who was recently appointed an Ambassador to East Africa and Middle East, by the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), described the action as a subterfuge by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, to keep the real findings of the forensic auditors from the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Recall that the report was received from Akpabio on Thursday last week by Malami, purportedly on behalf of the President.

Frank in a statement in Abuja said: “Why should Malami receive a report of a committee he did not constitute? Malami and Akpabio are both ministers under Buhari.

“The last time I checked, Malami was not the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or the Chief of Staff to the President.

“Do we now have ‘super ministers’ superintending over other ministers within Buhari’s cabinet? Or is Malami the much talked about ‘unelected alternate President’ in the Villa?

“If this macabre drama between Akpabio and Malami was not orchestrated to undermine Buhari, then what was it meant to achieve?

“Let the AGF cause to be published a memo, if any, by which Buhari directed him to receive the report from Akpabio or let Akpabio publish the President’s memo, if any, that mandated him to handover the report to the AGF. 

“Buhari was not only in town the day Akpabio danced naked in the name of transmitting the forensic report to the AGF, he was equally hale and hearty.”

The Bayelsa-born political activist insisted that Akpabio in cahoots with Malami have decided to take the President for a ride by deliberately bypassing him on matters relating to the NDDC as made clear in their refusal to hand the forensic audit report to Buhari.

He called on Buhari to urgently reconstitute the board of the NDDC which Akpabio frustrated in the last two years in order to have direct and unhindered access to the funds of the commission, allocated primarily for the development of the Niger Delta Region.

He urged the President to immediately recall the report and subject it to thorough analysis by industry experts with a view to ensuring that the true content of the report, undertaken with taxpayers’ money, is made available to Nigerians, particularly, the people of Niger Delta region long subjugated and denied their statutory right by Akpabio. 

“Otherwise, it will be clear to the world to Buhari has chosen to look the other way as Akpabio is riding roughshod over the statutory rights of the suffering people of Niger Delta impoverished by environmental degradation occasioned by long years of oil exploration and exploitation in the region.

“If there is no memo and it is found that Akpabio acted without authorisation, I call on the President to urgently sack him because his blunders are far higher than the ‘sins’ of the Ministers of Power and Agriculture recently sacked by the President. 

“Nigerians are waiting to see Buhari’s action against Akpabio in this matter, except the President wants to tell Nigerians that some ministers are untouchable, their detrimental and unconscionable action in office notwithstanding,” Frank said.

He called on the people and leaders of the Niger Delta to speak out, call the bluff off Akpabio and demand what is legally theirs should the President fail to constitute the board of the NDDC which they claimed to have delayed to allow a seamless forensic audit exercise.

Doubtless, Sadiya Farouq is one of the most misunderstood officials of the President Buhari-led Federal Government.

This fact should ordinarily not come strange to anyone who understands the burden of public service.

Ordinarily, Sadiya Farouq is not the only minister in the Buhari-led federal cabinet but the rate at which Nigerians have a perverse mindset about what can obtain from any office with high responsibility, is one militating factor. To this end, even if she is doing well, they will insist on the false narrative of how she is a bad person.

Expectedly there are going to be fifth columnists with narratives that they themselves can’t substantiate if they are put to truth test.

While for the fact that the minister is a transparent person, hence she likes to declare facts as they are per time; there are however a few misguided elements out there who are professional merchants in the art of reading misleading meanings to the sincerity and stewardship of the minister, to the general public.

The truth stands supreme and cannot be contested that Sadiya has tried her best thus far; in fact she has surpassed expectation as her office is a pioneer office. This is true as before her there was never such ministry at first. Inspite of being the pioneer minister of the ministry that is yet saddled with very sensitive duties of caring for the needy, she has at all times acted in good fate in the best interest of Nigerians and she is one minister with clean records till date, in as much as stewardship is concerned.

In a country where a few want to continue to enrich themselves at the expense of the poor masses; expectedly, narratives that can put the Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development minister in bad light, are all over the place, some of which may have been sponsored by aggrieved minds that have been unsuccessful at manipulating the minister to their own personal favour.

Since they have failed to corrupt her, they can therefore be out to tarnish her image as she has been a hard nut to crack as she has refused to bow to corruption and has rather insisted on doing her job with even a conscious bid to ensure that she reaches out to the poorest of the poor in the daily course of the duties of her office.

Howbeit, Sadiya Farouq has thus far proven that “there remain a few that have not bowed to Baal” and that she leads the pack on such integrity rating.

She has given the corrupt minds hovering around her ministry with a bid to steal what belongs to the poor, tough time and has since disappointed them a million times and more.

By the burden of her office, she is like the second person the poorest of the poor look up to for succour and dividends of democracy after President Buhari.

Therefore she owes the citizens of the country, especially the poor and the poorest of the poor, the duty to stand by them (the poor and the poorest of the poor), come what may, in the discharge of the daily duties of her office.

Indeed, so great a burden Sadiya Farouq bears but for her detractors who would not let her get the credit she deserves.

As persons cast aspersion at her while judging her services and the burden of her office, nobody is saying a word about those who sabotage her efforts at the state and local levels of the federation.

Ordinarily, Sadiya Farouq cannot be in all the 36 states of the federation including FCT at the same time. To this rescue, various committees and groups are put together to aid the discharge of the duties of her office at the grassroot levels, but sad enough, if there be complains inspite of the painstaking effort she put into planning process, only her should not be called out if there is need for anybody to be called out in judgement of her burden of office, rather those implementing the directives of her office at the grassroot should be called out and to account for how they have been going about the directive of her office where implementation has been adjudged to have fallen short of public expectation.

Nobody has for once faulted the efforts of her office. In fact she has been commended for her vision and mission; but the point of grassroots implementation is where she is faced with lots of sad and “below public expectation” feedbacks.

To this end, one must call a spade a spade than call a dog by a bad name just to hang it.

The minister inherited the NPower, tradermoni, famermoni programmes and she has thus far fared well.
She has fared well with the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) programme. She has fared well with the home-grown school feeding programmes. She has launched relief materials to nooks and crannies of the country faced by any natural or human disaster. These and many more efforts of hers sum up to the programmes and policies with which the Federal Government is today impacting the grassroots with a bid to deliver dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

Taking all these great feats of hers into stock, there is therefore need for we Nigerians to start shifting our criticisms toward those implementing the various programmes of the ministry, to call them to account. Just as the minister is ultimately accountable to Nigerians who are the taxpayers, so also those at the grassroots need to be called out and called to account, since in the end, it is all taxpayers money, regardless of the portfolio of who is in charge per time per level of governance.


The minister alone cannot get it all done. Nigerians must join hands with her and her office to make it happen. Sadiya Farouq is trying her best daily, to prove that Nigeria truly belongs not only to the rich but to even the poor and even the poorest of the poor. The masses should therefore rally round her instead of joining up with corrupt individuals and groups that are aggrieved at her good works as she is relentlessly insisting and ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach the grassroots and the poorest of the poor, against all odds.

Niger Delta activist, Jackson Ude has alleged that officials of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Niger Delta ministry are currently using the report of the forensic exercise to blackmail contractors.

On Tuesday, Jackson Ude tweeted; “Information reaching me indicates that officials of the NDDC, cronies of the Minister of Niger Delta Ministry are using the report of the forensics conducted on project executions to blackmail and extort millions from contractors.”

The conclusion last month, on the issue of giving legislative backing to Chartered Institute of Forensic and Investigative professionals of Nigeria (CIFIPN) by the National Assembly, the Senate precisely, has given impetus to the anti-corruption drive of the present administration of President, Muhammadu Buhari.

For the uninitiated, forensic investigators provides an investigation methodology and accounting analysis that are suitable and admissible in the court of law, which thereafter forms the basis for, debate and ultimately dispute resolutions. The emergence of CIFIPN is to fill a huge vacuum by aiding the current administration in the fight against fraud corruption and cyber-crime that is holding Nigeria by the jugular .
It is evidential that the inability of anti-corruption agencies like the ICPC, EFCC in winning cases in court most of the time, is traceable to lack of forensic investigation; which has the capability of reducing financial crimes to the barest minimum in society. This point of view was ably canvassed or supported by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana, who noted that: the work of forensic investigators appears much different from that of traditional auditors meaning; the old has to yield place for the new.
Be that as it may, the debate on CIFIPN at the national assembly has not been a smooth one all along as many obstacles were put on the way of the bill before the passing of the proposal by organisations who viewed the emergence of a new investigating body as a potential threat to their monopoly of the financial auditing sector.
The emergence of the Chartered Institute of Forensic and Investigative Professionals of Nigeria (CIFIPN) ought to be seen by the major players in the financial circle as adding impetus, and also as a move to compliment the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption.
The chartered institute of forensic investigative professionals of Nigeria (CIFIPN) is an anti-fraud body saddled with the responsibility of providing skills for relevant professionals on the use of science and technology for fraud prevention / detection and investigation, and also to put in place a sophisticated mechanism to stop future occurrence. Forensic is a multidisciplinary profession due to the nature of the mandates.
Much as one may view the experience and developments during the passage of the bill in the National Assembly by few fraud minded individuals, it will amount to economic witchcraft for anyone or group to attempt aborting the unborn baby whose birth is aimed at changing the game plan (call it status-quo) by introducing scientific, technological and researching methodology into the act of resolving complex and complicated financial crimes in the society. The recent busting of Hushpuppi criminal gang in Dubai by the FBI corroborates this point of view.
It is sad to note that ‘Nigeria is rated among countries of the world as one with a very poor fraud prevention records. It is even more worrisome to know that despite the Federal Government renewed efforts in tackling fraud, corruption and other cyber-crimes very little result has been achieved, especially in the area of securing conviction against perpetrations of fraud in Nigeria.’ The coming of CIFIPN will fill this vaccum.
It is necessary at this stage to educate Nigerians on the proper role CIFIPN will play in putting an end to the regime of financial recklessness, fraud and other criminalities within the financial sector. While accountants prepare financial statement, and also manage Government finance, the forensic professionals are the ones to checkmate their excesses . Forensic is needed only when fraud or crime is committed in an organization, for an example NDDC. Accountant who prepares financial statements, serves as an internal auditor and also as an external auditor in an organization can not at the same time come as a forensic fraud investigator of the same problem caused by them. If that is allowed definitely their will be conflict of interests. That is why there is separation of powers in Nigeria to avoid one being a judge in his own case.
Rather than fight CIFIPN, it will be better to embrace the philosophy or the aphorism that ‘the more the merrier’ and that the Sky is wide enough for every bird to fly without one obstructing the other.’ When it comes to the issue of professionalism and capacity building; diversification, re-strategizing, repositioning and innovation is a sine-qua-non. There is no room for revisionism or unhealthy rivalry.
Therefore, the concept or idea of Forensic Investigation which is just about ten years old it came on board has been widely accepted and embraced by advanced nations of the world and blue chip financial institutions as highly innovative for checkmating and preventing financial crimes before they are hatched or carried out by perpetrators.
As it is earlier said the concept of financial investigators is an idea whose time has come and Nigeria cannot afford to lag behind due to primordial sentiment or atavism.

Young pan-Africanist, Ousman Touray has joined in lending a voice to the international calls condemning Indonesia over its poor human rights records especially as it has a trend of assault against the black race.

In strong terms, he condemned the recent assault of a Nigerian diplomat, Abdulrahman Ibrahim, by the Indonesian Government.

He also called on the Indonesian Government to stop maltreating the people of West Papua.
