But till now, all i see is how everybody supporting the bill is wicked and selfish.
Well, i am wicked and selfish, and i want to live forever
That bill will be passed, and you will add another 5 years here.
Nonsense[/color] If you also notice that when Unlimited22 came on board I stepped aside because I understood where he was coming from and I didn't want to come across as insensitive. Wait make Tinubu enter and remove the subsidy and see how they will begin to blame APC people as if the principal they supported didn’t subscribe to it.
Me myself is even against the subsidy removal You don't even need Tinubu to enter and remove it before you know what will happen. Nigeria Labour Congress has already done a summersault that subsidy removal will be resisted. I pray they succeed anyway because I'm heavily reliant on fuel and it will take the grace of God to get any significant raise at work to compensate. |

Harsh as it may sound, no one forced anyone to study medicine or become a doctor.
My work has no public holiday, no Christmas, no new year, nothing. My phone must always be on because I can be called at 1am to attend to issues. You can't even go on leave in December except you're a senior manager. I'm not complaining because I knew what I was getting myself into.
Those who genuinely love to practice medicine will continue to study it and will be glad to give 5 years back after they are done. Those who had to study it due to parental pressure can go and learn data analysis and become a tech bro.
It is what it is. |

The reason I do it is for my own conscience in case I do not give that artisan the job.
I had a. Architect that came to one of my sites in Omi Adio. He worked for my builder to do Layout and pegging. He asked to see my building plan. A few days later he sent me an updated plan that was better. Eventhough I didn’t ask him to do the job I knew it’ll have taken his time so I asked for his account number.
1) Ten quotes? That’s too much. 3 is enough.
2) I’ll never ask anyone to come give a quote if they weren’t potential contractors.
3) My background just dictates that I reward artisans.
4) I’ll never ask anyone to do long travel and I’ll rather they stop by if they’re in town.

I dey see patients everyday in a hot airless room. Some equipment wey niggas dey use outside na for book and picture we dey see am. I can't even use gloves unless I squirrel away some whenever I manage to see.
You people think it's just the pay that's making people to leave and it is hilarious. Our current wage bill is 30% of the total budget. What you guys are proposing and the resultant effect will take our wage bill to more than 70%. That is not realistic. I already said that I do not think that an increase in salary will necessarily make doctors stay. We all know at the back of our minds that the conditions of work that will make them stay is not likely to happen in this lifetime. So what do we do in the interim? Ask them to serve and endure another 5 years or keep losing them in large numbers to the West? |

You've shown them that they are extremely important and honestly medical professionals should be paid extremely well anywhere in the world and especially in Nigeria where they are really needed.
If you say that's too much then FG never ready. These suppose dey collect hazard allowance of like 100k sef. It's not just realistic. The country cannot afford it. If you propose 750k for doctors on housemanship, how much are you going to pay senior consultants. How long will it take before other unions start demanding for the same money for their members? And even if you somehow manage to pay them, 750k monthly will not stop MOST of them from leaving. Emphasis is on most. I know you already alluded to the fact that it won't stop some of them from leaving. |

(please don't tell me there are people that will japa because I've already told you that it will not stop japa but it will stop some of them from leaving) Provide them with better working tools (this will take more time but these guys will be encouraged to work more) These guys dey sacrifice alot just to study and graduate. Then the FG can finally draw up an agreement with them also to bind them atleast then nobody will blame the FG.
Those are some suggestions. It won't stop japa but I know it will reduce it |

liveLongNprospa: Do you even follow news properly? The japa wave and rate of brain drain we are experiencing started with this apc government.
Doctors have not been leaving this country in an alarming rate till this party got into power.
This same party has come out through the minister to say the doctors should go and farm and even bragged about the graduates we are expecting from universities. Instead of listening to the plight of these doctors. During covid19 again.. During covid19 they paid peanuts to these doctors as hazard allowance. Infact outside Lagos state, how many other states paid doctors well that period.
You think that doesn't affect doctors who are in university?
Okay again I ask.. If the doctors decide to stop working for only 3 months because of this, what will any of you do? Nice spin The fact that doctors are now leaving in large numbers has more to do with covid than APC. Countries were in serious crisis and labour shortage hence the need for medical professionals which made them relax migration rules. Most of those doctors have always wanted to leave, the path just became easier with covid. I'm sure no one is forced to study medicine, if you can't give 5 years back, look for other courses to study or go to those countries that appreciate skills to study. Simple as ABC |

Was it not during covid19 pandemic that doctors complained of low hazard pay and these same politicians were hoarding palliatives. I understand that you are looking out for yourself and people who go to clinic but oga doctor sef na human being and the amount of miracles our medical practitioners dey perform for this country with substandard tools means that they have more than earned the right to take their skills were they will be appreciated.
Omo Did they just realise their skills will not be appreciated after they finished from medical school and got their license? They actually have an option ab initio, go to the countries where their skills will be appreciated to study medicine. It's not after you study with taxpayers money then you carry the knowledge away from the same taxpayers who need your service. It's not like they are totally preventing them from travelling. 5 years is all we ask for. |

Why doesn't this apply to the IT sector too? Abi you know the amount of brain drain occurring in banking IT departments?
Nothing about this is unfair at all You seriously can't compare the medical doctors and IT professionals. The absence of one directly leads to loss of lives, the other does not. One can be self taught or learnt in 6 months or less, the other requires several years to master. The education they receive is seriously subsidised. Go and find out the cost of studying medicine in advanced countries. You can't even get admission to study medicine in some of the countries. You can't get this training at no significant cost to you and the first thing you do after you qualify is fly to countries that will never have given you admission to study in the first place The bill is a really good one. If you can't stay 5 years to give back, there are many other courses to study |
