Sultaan, Not everyone can use a tool and a repair book. [Deleted] |
@Maxi Give me your eMail and I would have his name and number to your inbox in no time. |
I didn't know Mercedes had the S600 of this year. The S550 is approx $180000 and not $120000. If it wasn't for the logo, I'd have thought it was a 7 Series. I still love the '98 S600 and to date, it's the world's best luxury car. |
@Torx The only car that parrallel parks itself is the S500 and S550. This isn't new and requires a lot more inputs from the user/driver. Some of the toureg model has parking assistance (self park). Lexus copied and marketed their brand with this concept but failed. Owners of 460's were refunded their $500 option back as the parrallel parking technology was no success. The entire concept is embroided in control systems which is a complicated discipline in Mechanical Engineering. La' Place theorem (central limit) and tonnes of integration. Benz boasts of their efficiency in this field. If you are familiar with Mercedes Benz and the meaning of their star symbol, you'll understand why they won't boast nor flaunt their technologies when they implement them. There is a difference between the civil and the military order. Imagine a sub engine with over 60,000 horsepower (one out of two) and engine running, a single sound cannot be heard. Add a second engine to that! This sub is double-hauled and not a it's grave silent. The company that spend 20 million dollars a day on research across it's A|G cannot be compared to one that relies on lean manufacturing. |
Dis Guy:Most definitely! Where else would you see a space boat running with cars on the road. My personal opinion is it's aerodynamically a mess. , and people will wonder why it guzzles gas and fishtails at extreme speeds. |
The person I am going to refer you to is quite expensive but he's thorough. He is slightly arrogant (excessive words/min) 'cause of his status as an automotive engineer and not a mechanic. His service is guaranteed and if its a jollopy, he would tell you up front that he won't touch your car. If you need it, let me know and I'll give you his name and number. I know he currently services a staff's sports BMW that was bought new in '99. It's still up and running to date in Lagos. IM me on Yahoo! and let me know if you are interested. I have gotten his name and number |
The primary cause of automatic transmission failure is overheating. When the auto trans. fails, you cannot fix it, what's the use. They also aren't forgiving when rebuilding, so when they go bad, you have to replace the entire unit. Manuals don't go bad and when they do, it's not hassle having it fixed. Automatic is not a good idea for heavy traffic. I have heard from many nigerians when I complain about Houston's traffic that Lagos is more than twice as worse. Auto's always have to be serviced. Some cars don't permit you to have it's transmission serviced. You'll have to cough about 9,000 for a new transmission. Point A to B are short distances with turns and sharp corners. The ideal transmission is the manual transmission. You get the optimal lifespan of your engine since you rev above 2500 rpm before switching gears. It's also economical since gasoline efficiency is higher. |
I go way back to the 4-door Porsche. The '95 E500. It's the only sedan that can slice and dice in traffic at 150 mph. Highly engineered for the world's deadliest racetrack, Nürburgring. It negotiates it's corners at high speed.
|
I don't care about anyone's opinion. If you can't drive a stick shift, you cannot drive. I believe anyone residing in Lagos should have no business with automatic transmission because the roads are short and narrow as oppose to Texas where you might have to cruise an hour and a half to get to work. obua:To downshift, you have to floor the pedal for a higher engine speed. The purpose of the automatic trans. is to keep operating speed at low engine rpm. If you drive an auto that is underpowered, it's sister (manual) will be underpowered as well but slightly responsive since it doesn't rob the engine of 14 to 20 hp. |
@poster What you've asked is equivalent to comparing two girls (for instance, Nigerian and Mexican) and asking who's smarter. |
How much are you willing to spend in maintenance? |
Okejazz I have no intention of messing your business. I believe I made no mention of head gaskets and suspension with respect to Armada. If you took time to read the post, you'd have figured that I was referring to the BMW and not Nissan (someone mentioned an X5). It's a low-midrange V8 thus, doesn't run as hot as BMW. I like Toyota's because they are good vehicles and they innovate ground breaking technologies unlike Nissan's that build vehicles with parts only to implement when patents are open source. In otherwords, they don't come up with anything new. The truth still lingers, it won't turn heads as oppose to a fellow with a Rover Sport or match the halo beams of a BMW. |
Sultaan, In as much as I don't like American cars (especially Ford and Chrysler), I know what's true and untrue. There is a Jeep lineup that marks the towers of offroad capability(ies). I want to believe it's the Wrangler (I'm not too sure). It's framelike design and has a short wheelbase. It'll climb anything and through any terrain. The short wheelbase and its extreme rugged tolerance is what makes it its class of its own. |
Point of correction - Armada doesn't turn heads. I guess I just figured why people purchase vehicles they end up defaulting on; to turn heads (lol). Armada is just an imitation of the Land Cruiser. I pity anyone with a Range Rover in Nigeria. You are going to end up with a heap of expensive sheetmetal when suspension goes out. The good thing is that it goes out without warning and no guarantee when replaced. All four has to be replaced irregardless and there is no back up. You should have approx. $3000 set aside. Range Rovers are not built for tropicalised regions. To the person talking about an X5, they aren't built to be driven on rough terrains. They are strictly biased towards smooth highway driving. Ride becomes extremely harsh (same as most luxury cars) on rough pavement. Then, vehicle interior begins to rattle, suspension components needs to be replaced and sooner, needs a head gasket job. Neglecting 007, the BMW is as every other car that is sport biased and they don't last. The common factor that I have noticed is that they all end up parked in the owners compound. |
I'm not an enthusiast about Toyota but I do know what's right. Nothing outperforms Toyota. |
Maintenance is adequate to this vehicle and it isn't notorious. The huge disadvantage to the V6 model isthe compact bay (engine bay is conjested) that makes it difficult to reach components that are out of reach. This adds labour hours are added as oppose to other vehicles of it's class. It isn't a difficult car to maintain. Other than it being a difficult vehicle to work on with respect to certain jobs, it's a well above average car. All Honda cars are designed for high revving but never jack-rabbit auto transmission models. It takes a toll for the worse when it begins to overheat. |
There is a saying " A word is enough for the wise." 2 years ago, a Mexican that made his way to the United States with nothing worked his life out to live the American Dream. True he did live the dream here in Houston doing the construction job and living a debt free life (nothing on credit). His home was paid cash and a standard garage to govern the privacy of his new Ford Expedition. The Ford Expedition caught fire (self destruct from some cruise switch or so) and burnt his entire life estate. Everything he had laboured for in 15 years was burnt completely in 20 minutes. A grown man was weeping on the news. Ford took no responsibility for the loss till it made the media. When the media heard this, people contributed/donated for this family to be able to afford a lawyer that will take Ford up. |
sultaan:Sultaan, you just said it all. That is nothing short of the truth. |
What desperately makes me angry is that they know the right thing but they choose the wrong over money and profit. As a result, some lives have been lost and all they use as defense is "Incompetence." I have no problem seeing a "cabin" on wheels but when you pay over $50,000 on a vehicle only to have it burn down your entire life investment, then I think the average mode of reasoning has taking a wide angle of error. You shouldn't have a bad experience before you realise something is bad. Personally, with my busy and complicated life, the last thing on my mind is to stoop low to hap-hazzard car maintenance. @Pennywise I had a terrible experience with a Mitsubishi Diamante. My mind was made up that it was going to be my last lemon ever and unreliable vehicle that I will ever own. I won't purchase a vehicle without checking ODI (Office of defects and Investigations). Secondly, I will have to understand every single thing about that vehicle because I'm not going to make any dealership or repair centre any richer than what they ought to be. |
Funny enough, I have been talking to girls on this prenuptial and postnuptial issue and none find it funny. I believe they have another agenda as backup from my conclusion. Girls also use it as a form of security in marriage. One even voiced her reason "My husband can look at me one morning and say he doesn't like me anymore and start with another woman. He won't try that without prenup because I will sue for every single thing." I replied interesting! I have no problem sticking to marriage in a single spouse but my understanding about women will not make it a practicality without prenup and postnup. I pity the man in this day/age that doesn't insure his marriage. I don't know if it's just me but the vast majority of women are unstable in their ways. Texas has what it calls "No Fault marriage." I woman can just call it an end without any cause and at least 50% of the man's estate is hers. If she gets a good lawyer, maybe 80%. Imagine a business man with a prominent business. Many live their lives like that, moving from marriages to marriages securing their future. @Eclairs You are so right. |
Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) Recalls - Search Results 4 Records Displayed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Report Date : November 20, 2007 at 08:21 AM NHTSA Campaign ID number : 07V415000 Make / Models : Model/Build Years: JEEP / COMMANDER 2007-2008 JEEP / GRAND CHEROKEE 2007-2008 Manufacturer : DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATION NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 07V415000 Mfr's Report Date : SEP 11, 2007 Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC:CALIPER Potential Number Of Units Affected : 28755 Summary: ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS IN A CERTAIN LOT MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED FROM GRAY IRON INSTEAD OF DUCTILE IRON AS DESIGNED AND COULD FRACTURE WITHOUT WARNING. Consequence: THIS WOULD INCREASE THE VEHICLE'S STOPPING DISTANCE AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS TO SEE IF THEY FALL INTO THIS LOT AND, IF SO, WILL REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 22, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403. Notes: DAIMLERCHRYSLER RECALL NO G35. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV. Does this sound like this corporation cares about your safety? Yet, some people wonder why Toyota takes the entire market. Besides it being nominated by Consumer Complaint the worst 4x4 on US soil, it has the power to propel you from 0 to 90 at WOT but not the guarantee to stop the vehicle because brake setup and configuration is not at par. There should be no problem intellectualising this. |
Naijadr:When NHTSA has file-complaints about a particular vehicle, engineers are charged to investigate. When the issues can be duplicated, then it becomes a case file. Whatever your personal opinion about this vehicle is your business. It doesn't hold up against what is official. You must not know that NHTSA is responsible to issueing a manufacturer a bill of recall against a product that deems defective. Those complaints were listed by actual owners of Jeep products. All these cases have ODI numbers. If you have an opinion, then why don't you be an engineer and state your own opinion in a campaign against the establishment of public safety and consumer affairs. I don't care what you say or what the entire public says. When engineers deem a product defective, it automaitcally becomes a write-off. Two blacks will never equate white. This is my field of study and in a few days, will be getting my first SAE licence. I've paid the price and done the discipline. If you can detail in engineering terms and principle that this is not a failed product I might probably believe you. |
@timdawg You are welcome |
I would go further but I'm limited. The details of this vehicle is grave enough to opt for another choice. It's also interesting to figure that the heated leather seats do catch fire as a result of a badly configured heater core. |
@Ayo http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/06/jeep_more_trouble.html This covers your vehicle year. June 14, 2006 Jeep News • Jumpin' Jeeps Ruin Lives, Destroy Property • NHTSA Probes Jeep Wrangler Stalling Problem • 2006 Jeep Commander Named Worst "Blind Zone" Offender • More Trouble for Popular Jeep Grand Cherokee • Jeep Grand Cherokee May Suddenly Accelerate, Connecticut Charges • Hot Seat Recall for Jeep Grand Cherokee --- Complaints • Unintended acceleration • Wading depth • Other problems --- Recalls • Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Nitro Recall • Jeep Liberty Suspension Failure Recall • Feds Expand Jeep Liberty Probe • Hot Seat Recall for Jeep Grand Cherokee • Jeep Wrangler Investigation --- • More about Chrysler The DaimlerChrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee is facing a second recall in a week. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that 131,441 of the SUVs from the 2000 to 2002 model years should be returned to dealers to repair the electric cooling fan because the plastic blades on the fan may separate and penetrate the fan shroud. NHTSA warns that if the Grand Cherokee hood is open when the fan blades come apart, anyone standing near the engine compartment could be struck by a flying blade, possibly suffering serious injury. Jeep dealers will replace the cooling fan module free of charge when the recall begins later this summer. Earlier in the week, the Connecticut Attorney General warned federal regulators that they ought to investigate unintended acceleration in the Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee after a 52-year-old man was run over and killed by a Grand Cherokee in a Connecticut car wash. Unintended acceleration is not a new problem with the Grand Cherokee. ConsumerAffairs.Com has published reports of similar accidents since at least 2000, involving the Jeep Grand Cherokee and other Chrysler products. NHTSA has also recalled the SUV this week because the front passenger seat in the 2003 and 2004 Grand Cherokee SUVs can become a smoldering hot seat and even catch fire as a result of a faulty seat warmer. NHTSA is recalling 111,687 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs from the 2003 and 2004 model years equipped with heated seats. Owners of a Jeep Grand Cherokee may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236. |
Well, you'll have more than 30 today. See what consumer reports have to say. This is the mediation in conjuction with the NHTSA between consumers and manufacturers and it's also strengthen by the Magnuson Moss Act. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/jeep.htm It should quench your curiosity. You don't have to be a specimen before the truth is realised. |
You don't have to buy an unreliable vehicle to know or understand that it is unreliable. [Deleted Content] |
Spend some time in New Orleans - You'll have a change of mind in no time (provided you are not caged). |
The problem might be from within or without. There is a ladder that permits as a dorway. Seek God's face and use the appropriate scriptures to fight it. What you are going through is oppression. Till that oppression is dealt with, you cannot advance in life. You'll be making motions in life but no progress. I use to experience this in the past and through prayer and fasting, coupled with vigil and a daily prayer life, I overcame it. The origin and problem differ from individual to individuals. But the manifestion is the same. Whenever you experience such attacks the next time, anoint your crown and your sole and pray to cancel the effect of the suppression. @Ndipe Faith without works is dead. If one doesn't pray, you'll be defeated. |
@Gamine When you have a wick fire in the desert, you shield that fire from the wind till it's bold enough. The wind that tries to kill it will be the wind to elaborate it as a wild-fire. The more the wind, the wild the fire gets. Learn from this! Remember the 30 facts of life - not everyone has such awareness. If it's bright and colourful, you'll have herods and terminators. Life is governed by forces. Regards |
I personally don't agree with pre-nups. For goodness' sake, what happened to "For better, for worse. . . "? Signing a pre-nup just means that you're set on your relationship failing. If any guy wants me to sign a pre-nup before we get married, Imma dump his sorry ass right away. . . it ain't like I need his money anyway, I make enough for myself without a man giving me money.
If you can dump him before you get married, nothing stops you from performing the same when you get married. There is no such thing as better for worse. All that is nothing but plain theory. Sign your prenups under the right conditions and both party will work to saving a marriage when difficult times visit. |
