I don't think 1-140 approval have anything to do with retrogression

I think you're right, Retrogression can keep you at the nvc stage until your priority date becomes current, that should not affect i-140 approval.

I spoke with a DNP program director at Binghamton university New York and the lady said they recognize WGU and a Cgpa was just a little portion of the admission process. I know lots of programs accepts WGU grads but I was concerned about their "street cred".
Their tuition is the most affordable I have seen. Obtaining by BSN for less than 4k would be nice. So I could have sufficient money for the MSN or DNP or whatever I choose to do.

That's great. Though not all institutions accept it. Not only that the tuition is unbelievably low... You can finish in 3-4 months... People have done it.

Thanks Boss Iyiman for this thread. I want to ask about the academic BSN program. Which school will you recommend. I'm considering choosing between University of Texas, Arlington and Grand Canyon University for my BSN. How good are these two schools and which other school will you recommend. I'm awaiting i140 approval. Thank you sir

Those are 2 great institutions, any of the 2 is fine. Check the grants/scholarships/Discount/loans available for each and decide.

Can a pregnant theatre nurse get employed in UK after she has passed her ietls and CBT exams?

I doubt if there will be a rule saying pregnant Nurses can not apply, I think it should be a personal decision if you want to go through the process in that condition + the hustle to fix OSCE. Barbiee

Everytime a in a hospital in Canada I keep imagining how my ist day back to Nursing in the States would be. I am a little anxious though but I all I pray for is a good and understanding preceptor. wheww....

@Iyiman ......I look forward to the day I go to work as a self sufficient UsRN grin. Also do you have any info on Western Governors university RN to BSN program?. I want to know if a competence based program commands equal respect in the clinical setting.

Also for those already practicing in the States, is there any Nigerian Nurse habit we would need to unlearn?

If you come to the states, you'll go through orientation lasting between 6-12 weeks, working with a preceptor, so no problem.
Yes I know about WGU and you can finish your BSN in 4 months if you are dedicated. It is a professional degree, well recognised. But if you're more interested in becoming a DNP.. You have to think of an academic Bsn program.

Congratulations kiss kiss kiss

Thank you for your kind heart in wanting to share uworld with others.
But i would also want to state that apart from copy rights laws that prohibits you from sharing uworld in this manner, it isnt as beneficial when you use uworld in this format.
1......you cant track your progress (and knowing your percentile helps to relieve your anxiety a whole lot).
2.....it would make the process feel like you are reading yet another text book and not actually attempting questions.

I know we all want to save cost but I personally feel like uworld is one of the best prep tool out there and using it in this manner minimizes your outcome drastically.

Congrats once again my esteemed professional colleague and more strength to those preparing. It would all end in praise for us all.

Please heed this advice.. Copyright. Everyone that is ready to write the Nclex should try and subscribe to UWORLD directly, you will benefit more.

hi
Does guys specialize in L & D, have u seen any?
Also hw fast is it to adapt to practice over their, when you first arrived?

Well , I haven't personally met any L&grin guy.
There are a lot of factors to how quickly individuals adapt. 1. Your employer's input 2. Your personality 3. Your professional knowledge base 4. Your immediate environment, including the people you meet. Etc. But I will say it's not a big deal, just a matter of time. Within 3-6 months, you should be all round ok. Within 6 weeks, I was ok.

Very doable. As Nigerians, we are very competitive na grin grin. Seems L & D is a highly litigious specialty, i learnt someone can be sued at the drop of a hat cheesy cheesy

Any specialty can be sued, depends on the perception of the patient/relatives and the incidence under consideration. But if you strictly follow codes of practice, professionalism and best practice, even if you/your organization get sued.. You will get justice. But if you're found wanting, there are consequences.

So glad to be here.

Still waiting for my CES report. Has been studying like mad and saving for the trips.

Meanwhile, my target is psych or CRNA. grin grin grin where the buck is at...lol

ICU , Labor & Delivery are other good options. CRNA programs are very competitive and expensive, but it's doable.

It's so nice we finally have this thread at least it would help us to cope with the anxiety of practicing abroad.
My question is was the 6mth from after i140 approval?

Yes. I-140 Approved on December 7, case completed in March 30 and exit interview on June 14th. That's approximately 6 months.

That's after Nclex and IELTS are fixed.

Nice reading from my pal, Barbiee, who did the needful at the right time to save time. I am happy to finally move over to the States, all thanks to God.

1. Immediately the requirements were met, it took just 6 months to get to consular interview stage, which looked like a formality because USCIS has approved the visa petition by my employer and every legally required documents have been fulfilled.

2. I landed in the US with same experience as shared by barbie, temperature was sub-zero. Picked up by my employer straight to a restaurant, then to the hotel. Then another life started.

3&4. A lot of differences in practice but the same principle. Nurses in the U.S. do a lot more than basically Nursing a patient. The 3 categories of Nurses with varying roles, but the RN to which Nigeria Nurses automatically belong leads the team. Nurses in America are critical decision makers in patient care. I was surprised to have to be the one writing consult to specialists that should see my patients after admission. To have to put in several treatment orders and sign off for the MD. For the MD to listen and go with your line of reasoning/decision in patients care. Everyone here works as a team and there's no superiority/inferiority issues.

5. Work for your money and enjoy yourself. Study further and become an authority in your special area. There are over 100 types of Nursing speciality in the US to choose from. They almost have a Traffic Nurse .

6. All Aspiring Nurses, make hay while the sun shines, the U.S. is in serious need of you. The process remains the same for now. Do not procrastinate, stop wishing and start acting on those dreams. There is no better time to start this process than now.
The U.S remains one of the main destinations. Many in other western countries are still finding their way here.
Shalom.

There is an ongoing thread in this section about Nigerian Nurses who wants to practice outside the country. From my observation, several Nigerian Nurses have migrated from the time the thread was created by Barbiee. Now, it is time for those that have relocated to different countries of their choice to share anything at all; about, but not limited to the following:

1. Immigration process and timeline,

2. Settling down in a new country, the challenges and thrills.

3. The workplace experience.

4. Nursing practice Culture shock.

5. Future goals and aspirations.

6. Advice for incoming/aspiring Nurse immigrants to your country of residence.

Note... You may keep your workplace and employer's name anonymous, it is purely your decision/choice to share such. Great Nigeria Nurses!!!

There are still so many hospitals in the western world that use the nigerian method of cannulation. Not all Hospitals, infact majority of the hospitals do not use this technology.Let's stop making ourselves look bad.And please,I practice in the western world.

Exactly, we use vein finders only when we've failed 2 times.. . And vein finder doesn't guarantee a one time cannulation. No need to paint Nigeria backward on this.

Thanks to a couple of people that contacted me. I am still here...
.

I discourage anyone from wasting money on these materials... Ask for materials here and those who have will send to you for free. Many times on this thread we have discouraged any form of payment for anything at all, ranging from CBT material, IELTS, NCLEX. only someone looking for unnecessary shortn-cut will waste money on such adventure. In the end, you will discover it doesn't worth it, I've been there. Get hard copies instead, use playstore applications and pay if required eg UWORLD subscription. Enough said.

PS: no agency asks for money to recruit you from Nigeria. Whoever asks you is fraudulent.

And one more thing.

No matter what anyone tells you, DO NOT PAY ANY AGENT FOR REGISTRATION OR FOR MATERIALS!!
there are many free CBT, IELTS and NCLEX materials available on softcopy to go round.
Don't be desperate to the point of parting with your hard earned money. Those study materials you are itching to buy were sent to your agent/seller free of charge and will be sent to you too if you request for it.
Let's be our sisters and brothers keeper.
You're very correct. If anyone will sell their textbooks/hard copy materials, fine. Not hawking soft copy materials that are free everywhere.

My advice is that you should go the UK ist because remaining in Nigeria is not good for mental health grin cheesy cheesy cheesy.
However if you can, sign a short contract 1yr or find an employer yourself so you dont have to sign any contract with a staffing agency.
But whatever you do, dont wait in Nigeria grin

Warning: Whatever you do, don't wait in Nigeria.

Hi all. Kudus to you all for sharing useful information. Please i need advice i am eager to leave this country preferably to US. I am about to sign contract with Avant and about to commence cgfns ces. From observation i notice US journey takes nothing less than 18months grom CES CGFNS to visa immigration completion. So i am considering starting the UK process of CBT and IELTS so that if God wills i can go to UK while i continue with Avant US process. Please help with advice does it make sense. Thanks

A lot of people have done and are still doing that. The US process is a game of time where patience is the watchword. While moving to UK, consider your contract with the UK agent may be 2 years. And so, may subsist while you're ready to move to the US... Barbiee

It is quite a while on this forum. A lot of colleagues have moved to both the UK and the USA on this forum. Thanks to everyone that have contributed.
It is comforting to know that the creator of this thread Barbiee is packing her bags already to relocate soonest. A good number of us in the US are doing fine.... Maybe a new thread will soon come up to share our experiences, practising outside Nigeria.
To everyone still planning, make hay while the sun shines, before the requirements change. All the best to those preparing for Nclex.
Please consider *Vickyehi* advice. Saunders and Uworld. Shalom!
