Igboid: Okirika has many components. There is the main Okirika who are the Ijoid one. Then there are Igboid components found at Okujagu and co. Then the Ibibiod Obulom.
All these came together to form Okirika and that's why Okirika is a unique entity.
But the Okirika language, the one from the Ijoid part, is an Ijoid language.
So I'm not contradicting my brothers. Okujuagu and Azubie speaks Igbo |

SaintBishop: The ikwerres said that they are not igbos, Wike their number one man said they are not igbos. And yet,no one single ikwerres has come online to question his statement duh. I know hundreds of Abua people who said that they are ijaws so what your point Mr? Look at you. What do you know. let me just help you out with a known Ikwerre son that addressed Wike's gaff on that interview. The Ikwerre Is IgboIt is important to state for record purposes that historically Ikwerres fully identified themselves as Igbos without suffering harms. Chief Joseph Wobo, member of the Council of Chiefs of Eastern Nigeria, clearly stated he was an Igbo. Nobody can dismiss him as he defended Ikwerreland in colonial Nigeria. Sir Jackson Mpi, first and last Ikwerre to be conferred with Knight of the Order of British Empire, OBE, by Queen Elizabeth II of England in 1960, identified himself as Igbo. From the ancient Kingdom of Isiokpo, Sir Mpi worked tirelessly for Igbo advancement. Dr Obi Wali was the first Ikwerre PhD holder, senator and university lecturer. He was also the only Ikwerre in the 1978 Constituent Assembly where he was selected one of the 50 Wise Men that drafted the 1979 constitution. The great Dr Wali identified fully with his Igbo heritage and was gruesomely assassinated defending it. Okogbule Wonodi, first Ikwerre registrar of any university, first and only Ikwerre poet and Paramount title Holder of Eze Ohiaemeru. Ohiaemeru, where you have present-day Comprehensive College in Borokiri, was his ancestral home before the British vacated them between 1913-1923. Wonodi remained a respected member of Nzukor Igbo and Ohanaeze Ndigbo till the end of his life. Patriot Emmanuel Aguma was former Mayor of Port Harcourt. As Principal of St John College, Diobu, he was the first Ikwerre to head any college. One of six pre-independence Ikwerre University graduates, former administrator of Port Harcourt Province in the defunct Peoples Republic of Biafra, first Ikwere minister in 1979, Aguma remained a member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Emmanuel Oriji was a respected local government administrator, traditional ruler, a commissioner in old Rivers and core Igbo nationalist. The immediate past Deputy Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Isaac Wonwu, is an illustrious Ikwerre son from Elele. He is known to assert his Igbo identity. Equally valid, Chief Jackson Womenazu from Rumukrushi in the Evo Kingdom is a member of the Elders’ Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. In colonial documents, written when Igbos had no capacity to influence anything, Ikwerres also defined themselves as Igbos. When Ikwerre leaders presented their case before the 1957 Sir Henry Willinks Commission, Wobo declared that Ikwerres were Igbos and Port Harcourt to Onitsha was Igboland. The cream of Ikwerreland have asserted their Igboness. Most illustrious sons and daughters. Tell me any Ikwerre whose CV can match those of Mpi, Wobo, Aguma, Wonodi, Dr Wali or Amaechi?..... more on the link bellow. https://barristerng.com/why-is-wike-denying-his-igbo-roots-by-dim-uche-okwukwu/listen up SaintBishop, I don't dabble into this Ikwerre vs Igbo debate, because it is not necessary at all. The Ikwerres are my in-laws, so I know a lot about them. Consider this the last I will respond to you on this issue. |

Fejoku: Many Igbos may not know but the Obolo language is a mixture of Ekoid, Ibibiod, Igboid and Ijoid languages. There are communities and markets there with clearly Igboid names. Some of them bear Igbo names like Uche Secondus, etc. There is popular name called Horsefall is Rivers State from Andoni. The origin of the name is from a woman called Nwanyi Osifolor. She was a good cook and was very wealthy such that she started a war canoe house which morphed into the house of Horsefall. They call themselves Obolo people and their language is clearly a cross river language group. It's the Ijaws that call them Andoni which many historians used for them. They are not an Igbophobic group. I once met one of them and I learnt a couple of things from him. Horsefall is a Kalabari war canoe house in Buguma city. I have been there. |

Ndi Igbo, we really need to go back to our tenet of civilization. One of our basis of existence is dialogue. We were a nation of dialogue and open conversation. Our ancestors were master conversationalist. No wonder, our progenitors christened it ''ekpan nkata'', because civil conversation was an art by itself. How we lost that capacity is still baffling to me. We cannot achieve anything on abuse and insults. You may ague that other groups insult and attack us, but two wrong can never make a right. Present your case with facts, figures and decorum, and I tell you, by stooping low, we will conquer. And I support the OP on this, Oje mba ewe ilo. |

Advocate500: you are stupid and childish, if the number of igbos on nairaland that are not up to 2% of the entire igbo population now represents the opinion all igbos in general to your myopic reasoning. That shows how daft and senseless you are.
I am very sure you are not an igboman, nairaland have been a forum where tribal hatred and bigotry are welcomed, is more like competition within the opposing tribes ,both igbos, yurobas, ijaws, huasa and fulani insult each other under the guise of tribal superiority and you feel is right to drag the entire tribe to this madness ?
Who are paying you guys to discredit an igboman? If you want to condemn the issue of tribalism on this forum, why not try and be holistic in your criticism? Singling out a particular tribe to an offence of almost all the tribe in Nigeria is the height of stupidity. Calm down. Ndi Igbo need serious orientation. Have you been on Igbo history Facebook page? Post anything on ikwerre or Anioma and see the comments coming from some South East angles. The recent one is on Obi Maduka of Isele Ukwu. Come and see insults and bitterness. We are gradually crossing the Rubicon. We need to sit back and reflect on realities. Love and tolerance conquers more than brute and force. Engage any forum and groups, check the users that are likely to throw up insult or drag other ethnic group, its always our people. If we don't change, I wonder how we can coexist together even in the supposed Biafra that most of us are clamoring for. |

VOICEofORIENTAL: Pride they say goes before a fall.sometimes in life a person,or group people may not know that they are fast drifting to a fall.the simple reason for this ignorance is the presence of PRIDE in the life of those I mentioned earlier.we were told of how pride dethroned Lucifer.. pride & arrogance was what led to the fall of the great Roman empire! time & time again we are warned of the dangers of pride & arrogance.with this in mind & my observation especially on this section of nairaland,I beg to ask: Ndigbo, are we making the right steps?..a day hardly passed without you reading Igbo this, or Igbo that.Ndigbo are we at war with everyone?.. ALMOST EVERY DAY,WE ENGAGE THE YORUBA'S ON TRIBAL WAR.. ANOTHER DAY IT'S THE TURN OF HAUSA FULANIS..YET ANOTHER DAY,WE ENGAGE THE NIGER DELTA..IF WE ARE NOT ENGAGING THOSE TRIBES,WE ENGAGE OURSELVES BETWEEN,ANAMBRA vs IMO...NGWA vs ABIA..etc.Ndigbo are we sure we have not DRIFTED? we have forgotten this Igbo adage;OJEMBA ENWE ILO!..a journey man doesn't have enemy!we travel widely on a daily basis.is it how we are going to live with those we travel daily to there region? NDIGBO LET US PAUSE & LOOK OUR SELVES IN THE MIRROR. The problem started from a radio broadcaster that preaches hate, arrogance and bitterness. This radio broadcaster did not even spared our elders, as he insulted them, beat one up in Germany and called our think tanks ottelectuals. The irony is that the same elders he insulted, threatened and belittled are currently begging the commander in chief to show him mercy. These brainwashed fools are on every nook and crannies attacking everything and everyone, and roping Igbos into their madness. Chukwu aju their Biafra. |

Politics › Re: What Could be the Reason for the Igbo Mass Aquaphobia (Fear Of Water) by izac82: 3:53pm On Nov 24, 2021 |
AlexBells: As I venture deeper into unconventional politics, I had taken looks into maritime potentials but I had figured out that a greater majority of Igbos have Aquaphobia (Fear of Water).
I had always loved the waters which had always pushed me towards the waters, in fact in my country side home, since childhood when I used to enjoy the view from a hill near my house, I wished the hill had a spring of running water.
But sometimes in my early teens I almost drown one time, when I swam in a relatively deep pool, ever since then, I had taken off swimming, but lately, especially as we get on some minor verbal engagements with the Ijaws on nairaland and they keep calling Igbos and myself in particular stone, I had vowed to get efficient in swimming and get to where I need to.
I contacted a swimming coach in Enugu but a while ago, I was in Nsukka for a brief stay in the UNN, then I contacted one of my navy buddy to come put me through but two of my other friends would say they can't hit the pool, I called a girl friend of mine and she said she's not doing any swimming, it happened that my friends have fear of almost any body of water, okay to cut the long story short, we drank all night instead of swimming.
Meanwhile I noticed that other nationalities doesn't have this fear when we have way more water in AlaIgbo than most other nationalities, most of my Igala friends can swim including their women.
Now look at coastal towns like Onitsha, you would figure out that Igbos tend to live meters away from any body of water, denying Igbo cities that Mega coastal city feels, my question is, what could be the reason for mass Aquaphobia within a nationality. You are so funny with your over generalization. I am from Ebonyi, and I can swim very well. We have a large body of water, bordering Afikpo and Cross Rivers. Most Ebonyians from the southern parts are good swimmers. Don't use your small circle of friends in hilly Enugu to summarize on Igbos. That is very wrong man. |
