in the middle east friday is the weekend. friday is their sunday. for all intents and purposes the same applies in the north. even in unilorin, there were never any classes on friday
Classes close by 12 in the next local government

But in my own, they do not come on Fridays.

So, nothing is happening on Friday in North Western states abi?

Or if WAEC puts a paper on Friday, they won't write?

The children of the top and middle class attend those schools, the children of the poor are sent to almajiri schools even if GSS koko is totally free
Oga, the poor ones attend there. That was my PPA, and we don't teach on Fridays because it is a market day, and they have to take their harvests to sell

Almajiri school failing is purely political, and not a waste of resources.

The schools there are burdened, but somehow, building more schools is a waste of money. How?

Even if you suggest they learn a trade or vocation, isn't reading and writing necessary?

The key thing about Almajiri schools why it was a waste of time is that unless the people buy into the idea and change the cultural mindset, they will find it insulting and reject it. How many times have you seen Northern elders defend Almajiri system as their culture and religious way of life

Ordinary telling people to give birth to kids they can cater for is a sensitive topic as they will tell you God takes care of children. To even get people to take polio vaccine its war. There was a time Northern Nigeria was the only place polio was thriving and I was at the forefront cos I was involved in a UNICEF project to vaccinate people. Take vaccine to protct your child should be the easiest thing to get people onboard with yet it was an issue

A people who started a terror organzation and named it "Western Education is a sin" those are the ones you built Almajiri schools for? Dey play my people

Until the North decides to change many things we are just wasting our time
But there are schools there.

Is it Igbo and Yoruba children that are attending GSS Koko?

.....you still don't get it. What Fahsola was postulating is; teach these kids skills. Enrol them in vocational/technical schools. Let them acquire skills that will remove them from the streets.

Can you show an actual teacher that was engaged in this program? Can you show an actual curriculum? Can you entail why there would be almajiri schools when there were already regular govt schools that provide free education?

So what exactly were the almajiri schools bringing to the table? It was just another of gejs white elephant projects what wasted money without any actual target
Where are the regular government schools?

I served in the North and i taught Mathematics.

SS1 was from A to K, i think.. Only me be Maths teacher, and the students were not Almajiri oh.

I'm surprised you are downplaying the effect of schools in a region that had little or no presence of it.

Maybe it was to siphon funds or for politics, but if the school did run, it would have contributed to their literacy

I really pity those in haulage and logistics business at this time. They are at a high risk of their trucks being highjacked and cargo being looted by "protesters" in different parts of the country(particularly) the north.
My friend is currently at home.

A truck carrying their drinks was hijacked on the way.

24 million naira worth of drinks was looted till it got to 11 million.

The owner just asked all of them to stay at home and lock the warehouse. Make him first reason wetin to do.

The people doing this to him in the north know that 2027 is a long time and I believe they have it planned.

The main issue here is unlike then when the north was doing this same thing to OBJ and GEJ, the economy is in terrible state and people are really really suffering. So the anger is genuine also.
For the SW angle, I think the ronu cry (which before election happened was actually a good thing) has actually driven a serious wedge between him and people down south. So while he might have done things for the SW, the suffering will still be a problem.
There's a reason atiku highlighted the #igbomustgo campaign and link it to lagos, baba doesn't care about the ronu and he has brought them to spotlight for others to talk about them. Na why LASG quickly dissociate from them (even though alot of SSA's dey follow the particular account on twitter).
So yes, whatever he is gaining in the SW, he is losing elsewhere.

But if he is banking on the relationship with the SS and SE, he is joking.
He needs the north even more now.

We had this discussion after the Niger coup. Russia has sponsored multiple coups across West Africa and if they have their way Nigeria will be next.

They would actually need a presence in Nigeria so they can cheaply evacuate Niger uranium and other resources . Most of their vassal states are land locked.

Maybe build a railway line across the entire region.

Putin is looking to create his new world order and some northerners are willing to be his vassals if it comes to that.

I suspect someone showed their hands too quickly. The low education Ibime was talking about.
You remember that when Niger was having issues, Tinubu closed the borders, and Northern senators opposed it.

I won't be surprised if these guys are doing free promo for Russia.

But do these guys even know what they are asking for? Who swear for Africa sef?

On Monday, protesters from Kakuri, Tudun Wada, Rigasa, Unguwan Shanu, Abakwa and other areas within the metropolis stormed the popular Ahmadu Bello Way, through Ali Akilu Road looting and breaking into private residences.

A protester who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES said: “We want Tinubu to step down and Atiku Abubakar to take over the governance of the country.”

When asked why they are waving the Russian flag, the protester said they want Russia to come to their aid.

“Just like Niger, we want Russia to come to Nigeria.”

Bro there's rioting on the streets and immigrants are being asked to go back to their countries.

The same way UK issued alert to its citizens on Lebanon to evacuate due to impending war, is the same way some other governments have issued travel advisory to avoid UK.

There's a serious crisis happening in that country. Rioting, stoning police, public disorder, racist beatings etc.

I would sincerely advise that you look for safe harbour in a less violent, less western country... like North Korea.
