BlueRayDick: I just read the news on FP and in a way I feel it is premature for Seyi Makinde to have declared it is linked to activities of illegal miners when they still have sketchy details about the incident . Anyways I understand he needs to give the press something as at the press time , but let’s see what time will reveal . I hardly believe that any government has a sketchy detail of any event that happens in the state. While we were assuming, they must have had something concrete. The only difference is that they will give you what they want you to hear at the moment. Very possibe that he knows a lot. But for now, let us manage illegal miners |

So, in the end, it wasn't Gas or Gasland.
I have seen that Gasland and been to Ventura mall, just metres from UI, and i have been wondering how that explosion would shake Ibadan.
Even the gas explosion we had at Abule Egba sometime in Lagos, didn't shake the whole Alimosho sef.

So what do we do ? Pray? Be hopeful they will grow conscience some day? Until we have an enlightened population, we are not going anywhere. A more informed people reduces the chance to rig or manipulate. When people tell you the North have the numbers, it is basically to prey on their illiteracy. BlueRayDick: Exactly! It's just an avenue for people to further embezzle scarce resources.
Anything that involves aggregating N5000, N10,000 to be shared to thousands or millions of people in this country is just another avenue for those in charge to steal.
At times it just seem as if our leaders cannot just think of what will genuinely alleviate the suffering of the people long term. They know what to do! But poverty is what keeps them in power. The poorer the people, the more you can rig and manipulate. |

BlueRayDick: I don’t follow .
U said Policemen stationed in banks don’t misbehave like others and I only pointed it out to u that they are actually well motivated. That’s why u see them caught in cross fire when robberies happen . They are motivated to give their best unlike those who get paid paltry salaries and will pull off their uniform once they hear robbery is happening in a neighborhood .
I’m actually not arguing anything with u. The bank will not fail to report any police officer that is found wanting The CSO of the bank did not tell anyone to bring returns for him. You either do your job or leave. The same cannot be said for his colleagues in the Police station. He has to remit to DPO. Everybody collects bribes. Everybody has one crime that they need to cover. Kyari cannot be running his cartel without the help of other ASPs, DPOs and others. If we pay Police 1 million naira a week, it only makes them more richer. It is just like saying we should increase ransoms so Kidnappers won't kill the victim. |

TrebleChamp: Those fresh graduate to be employed will still be Nigerians. The problem is not really the system but the people, Nigerians are generally very wicked/heartless people. Give an average Nigerian a uniform and gun, and see him become a demon terrorising his fellow Nigerians. See kidnappers killing children to send a message to already grieving parents, we are just terrible people. Nigerians as a people need a change of attitude, we will never achieve anything unless the populace have a massive changed mindset and threat our fellow citizens with love and respect like the whites do to themselves.... BlueRayDick: Lolz ….
Commercial banks have an insurance policy in place for their security personnel called Group Personal Accident( GPA ) . The insurance policy covers the policemen and provide compensation for them in the case of Permanent Disability , Temporary total Disability , medical expenses and death as a result of work related injury/accident .
If for example a policeman in a bank’s bullion van convoy dies in an accident or bank robbery ; his families will be paid certain sum ( which is usually in millions ) to the tune the bank insured him . If he suffers permanent or temporary disability , he will also be compensated in monetary terms by the insurer .
These are part of their motivation. This is why some policemen actually prefer to be seconded to banks asides the stipends banks arrange for them. So the civilian security that is sitting at the door nko? Why is he not collecting 200 naira from us before we enter? Abi him dey collect 200k per month, or him dey buy rice from a cheaper seller? |

OasisX: ......valid. Commercial banks have security men (civilians and policemen), which I am sure are not earning 100k a month Yet, they do not harass you for bribes. We hardly hear of heists or bank robberies. The reason is because they have an unpolluted structure in that workplace. Nobody is putting pressures on them to bring returns. They are accountable to their superiors and will definitely pay the price if they misbehave If they cannot reboot the NPF, let them share that increment for all of us. |

Itsrm: I've had conversations with colleagues who want to exploit certain loopholes to make money and when they look at the amount of money they stand to make, they wonder if it's worth losing their job if they get caught.
Imagine if they are paid 40k a month. They won't even think twice. If they get caught, so be it.
Look at how they parade and dismiss them over and over again. The remaining officers return to the road and continue where the previous ones stopped. That tells me they are people who don't mind the consequences of their action. If they were well paid, they will think twice.
It won't completely stop it but it will definitely reduce it. Reduce it to what level? Someone is making 50k a day; 5 days a week, but he earns 40k a month How much will you pay him, so he can reduce his bribe taking to 30k a day, at least? |

GloriousGbola: na so.
on new years eve in 2006, police went around picking up people randomly. they picked a cousin of mine. 10 year old. selling banger. we paid maybe 10k to bail her out. the station was full. some one came and made some calls and in front of us the police called their boss to say money was reduced because they had to let a victim go.
these fking animals do not even have any concept of what constitutes breaking the law. they are wired to collect money and that is it. It was before that i actually felt they needed a raise. Now, i know better that these guys are far gone into corruption to even give them any benefit. |

The night i spent in the police station, the total bribes i saw them collect that night was more than 300k.
If they can scoop 300k in one night, how much will you pay him to stop collecting bribes?
Instead of adding 1 naira to their salary, scrap the entire system and recruit fresh graduates for it.
The whole system is contaminated. It has nothing to do with their salary |
