Iamgrey5: No, I am indirectly saying South Africa is likely to suffer more if we break our relationship with them.
Our big businesses are not involved that much in South Africa or on the continent.
Why we can easily get another country to buy our crude oil and invest in sectors South African companies will be vacating.
South Africa won't get another country that would give their companies the kind market share they currently enjoy in Nigeria.
Hence, it would affect their trade policy. That's true |

cdqyehyeh: Those companies are closer to there government than u think, they also serve as representative of their country, if they keep losing, they will either create educative programs for there citizens or speak to thier goverment. Note, if we gradually stop using there product and we start going indigenously it wont only help solve the issue bt also help us economically. Hopefully, we got substitute. That could be a solution, but I don't think it may produce results fast enough |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Set To Commence Legal Action Against South Africa by izzou(m): 10:54am On Sep 06, 2019 |
Iamgrey5: Nigeria is DSTV and MTN's biggest market, even bigger than the market share in their parent countries.
None of the Nigerian companies operating outside our shores command more than 10% market shares in those countries.
And MTN and DSTV are not all over Africa, they are only in countries that accept them.
Most of the technical operations of these South African companies are based in south Africa.
Nigerian economy is not wired like South African economy that is a fully capitalst in nature.
And I repeat, unlike DStv and MTN that controls the major market share in Nigeria, Dangote and the rest are just barely existing in those countries.
Why do think the South African President visited Nigeria the last time MTN was in trouble? Okay, let me agree with what you are saying
So that means you're indirectly saying that the South African economy, is dependent, to an extent of what two companies are making in just only Nigeria?
I don't think that's possible.
And Dangote is not merely existing in other African countries. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Set To Commence Legal Action Against South Africa by izzou(m): 10:38am On Sep 06, 2019 |
Iamgrey5: Bro this is not true
Nigeria is the biggest trading partner of South Africa on the continent because most of this companies.
We sell crude oil to them and repratriat money back to their country.
If we Nationalise MTN and DStv it will affect their trade and business policies.
Hence, the glo example can't work because glo doesn't control huge market share in Ghana and our economy is wired in a different way.
Nigeria can survive because Nigeria once survived something similar in 2014 when America our largest trading partner in the world stop buying our crude oil.
The only problem are the Nigerian elites who have some shares in SA companies stalling any retaliation. Dstv is all over Africa. I could liken Dstv to Dangote Cement.
You want to tell me if an African country expels Dangote cement, the Nigerian government and economy will be affected greatly? I doubt that
My point is these businesses are all over Africa, and they will definitely survive if we expel them. But it will be difficult for SA to ignore if other countries are queuing up behind us
As for the bolded, I agree
I'm here to learn though |

cdqyehyeh: Not a play bro, What Oshiomole said was the best solution have ever heard of, lets do that for at least a month and see how fast S/A goverment will react What about your Dstv? What should we do about that?
The point is not to start hurting their businesses, but to force them to compensate and stop future attacks
We can diplomatically cajole other countries to cut ties with them. Let other countries(Maybe West African) suspend ties with SA, and watch them call for a truce
SA government does not own MTN or DSTV.
Its just like saying Ghanaians should boycott Globacom and Buhari will beg |

If you wish, you can twist my words out of context as it is very much what Nairaland is about.
Critical thinking has left Nigeria. Someone said our leaders are our problem
You said you disagreed
And then come back to say your words were twisted.
Truly, critical thinking has left Nigeria |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Xenophobic Attacks: Enough Is Enough - President Ramaphosa Of South Africa by izzou(m): 2:26pm On Sep 05, 2019 |
GavelSlam: I disagree.
A half-educated Nigeian with no skillset is the problem of Nigeria.
I can think back to some of my classmates during my undergraduate years in the 90s. Some were already involved in 419. Realise this was a period of fax machines and snail mail.
Many were from homes that were relatively well off.
Without developing a skill, the society is in danger of extinction.
Crime becomes rife, morals become lost and industry is stifled.
The homefront has lost all morality and development of the child with various skill sets has become archaic. So our leaders are not a problem at all? |

omenka: Good.
Can we now face the domestic issues plaguing our country? Enough of these threads already. We are bleeding internally but it seems we are much more interested in the superficial wounds.
How about we started preaching love and tolerance amongst ourselves?
Our collective enemies are the political elites. They are the root cause of all the problems we face as a nation today. Their greed has been our albatross as a people. They rape us daily with every single breath they take, pitch us against each other along religious and ethnic lines just to consolidate their power, and use our ignorant and illiterate brothers as canon foders for their insidious political games, the ones we call thugs.
When they come together to steal, not even the unity at the table of the Last Super can compare to their show of brotherliness.
Their greatest fear lies in our unity of purpose. The moment they sense we no longer see our tribe, religion or region as the huge faultlines available to them for exploitation whenever the need arises, that will be the day they start sitting up knowing the sun is about to set on them. I read this over and over
I feel an awakening is about to happen. We are so close to a revolution |

helinues: Residing in Lagos does not make you an indigene..
So how about one of the wanted guy on the list of FBI that was seen with Ihedioha during campaign? Ihedioha should have made him a commissioner of finance... Or? I'm not from Imo state but nobody applauded Ihedioha for that. Or can you show me where people defended Ihedioha. Even Ihedioha exonerated himself from that story. Same goes with Keyamo. It shows the people there can be concerned about who their elected leaders roll with
But in my city, Lagos, we trust Tinubu to take us to greater heights. If he sees MC Oluomo as a man the youths should emulate, why shouldn't we?
Like I said, MC Oluomo is a leader. He has led the NURTW branch of Oshodi to great heights. And in this administration, your certificate is secondary. We have seen it time after time in their selections. So why can't MC Oluomo be a commissioner for transport or even education?
What will disqualify him? |

helinues: Is that how appointments are being made in your region? I live in Lagos, so yes, that's how appointments are being made in my regions
This same MC was who a sitting governor was carrying up and down for rallies. This same MC threatened a whole Senator that his party would take over their state. And guess what, they did
After all, in Buhari's government, a minister must not have an idea of his ministry. It's just an administrative seat. That's why a lawyer was a minister of power, works and housing
MC Oluomo has been a leader in Oshodi. I see nothing wrong if he is appointed a commissioner. He can handle it |

Are you seriously comparing a subjective opinion with factual statistics? He doesn't need a brother that has AIDS to know that HIV/AIDS outbreak has caused many deaths. The statistics on tested affected individuals, which is a FACT already tells us this to be TRUE.
OP on the other hand has no facts in his post. Feelings and opinions are not facts. He had a good mother, he never experienced/studied any of the things he said, "I am smart and observant" are not facts. Yes he may be smart and observant but those skills are not enough, he made a general statement without facts about what he thinks is the role of mothers in parental alienation. If he has links that proves his post, he should post them, we are willing to learn. He doesn't have links
He's smart, and observant. That's enough for you to agree
And besides, get ready for your IQ to be evaluated.
