Sixfeetbelle: This @ the bold, is telltale sign that you're shorter than me.
And you're right. I believe that second time is the charm I must admit, you're right You're probably one of the tallest Nigerian ladies. I'm about 5'10. We'll see if the second time is truly charm |

Sixfeetbelle: 1) Do you know me before? Do you know how old I am? I laugh you ooh. No dey think am like that.
3) Yes ooh. Doing boyfriend and girlfriend when you're broke is tantamount to foolishness.
I am not foolish. Mbok 1. Okay o, I don't know you actually... 3. Hmm. Not in all cases tho, I agree you should be working harder to be better your life rather than deriving comfort in a relationship Anyways, it was cool 'knowing' you. Maybe we'll meet on some other thread again. No eye quiver this time Btw, are you really 6ft tall |

Phones › Re: Here's Why You Can't Call Your Number From Your Phone by izzyboi(op): 9:37pm On Jul 24, 2020 |
saajus: Great explanation, but I just want to add my little telecom experience.
The word satellite used in the article was big, truly there are phones, like Thuraya that could make call through the Satellite but our daily day-to-day phones services (mtn, glo, etisalat) are connecting through cell towers (radios) which we popularly called mast in Nigeria. Mast is just the name of the pole that carries the cell tower. Those of us that grew in the 90s know Satellite phone is for the big boys. Thank God for radio phones that breaks the barrier.
Your phone does not create/send a new signal when you attempt a call. Your phone is always transmitting signals (power), and the cell towers are continuously transmitting signals (power) too. As you are going around, there are information that your phone keeps sending to cell towers, and there are information that your cell towers keep sending to your phone. They always have to transmit signals because calls may want to come in at any time. That's why operators can make your phone battery last more or burn faster. They can set up sleeping time for your phone not to communicate at all. It will be in milliseconds so it won't have a significant impact on incoming calls, but sometimes if incoming calls jam the time your phone is sleeping, which rarely happen, you won't see the call, but it will be ringing at the other end.
I agree with your point that not be able to call yourself is more of an operator setting than the technology. Most operators can change the settings to whatever they like. In Nigeria, it will tell you busy, in some advanced countries, you will be sent to your voicemail box when you try to call yourself. Most GSM uses FDD, and in FDD, both uploading (talking) and downloading (receiving) can go pari pasu cos you created a different path (frequency allocation) for them. This was helpful, thank you for the corrections |

Sixfeetbelle: It's not phobia for bridges per se, but of drowing in the deep water below. I can't swim and I dread the thought of dying by drowning or asphyxiation like any situation that will warrant me needing for oxygen more than I should have on a regular.
So it is maybe on a low-key, fear of bridges and majorly, fear of drowning. I doubt if anyone can swim in that water, so you're pretty much like everyone |

NDSMELODY: i disagree ur first point up there that when u dail a number a signal is sent to satellite(earth station) then return to the subscriber(phone user or ground station) base on these two reasons
1.we have a device called transceiver meaning a transmitter and a receiver in telecoms engineering, this device allow information signal to be transmitted and received at thesame time as a result future tech could embed this device to serve the purpose.
2. We have a term called multiplexing in telecom which allow many information signals to transmitted over thesame channel simultaneously, future tech could also include this on smart phone device........back to the main discussion, the major reason why you can not call your own number is that,at a particular time u are dailing ur own sim card number from ur phone your SIM card is already in busy hour which may result from call congestion or any other factors like time, now what do i mean by busy hour? Busy hour is a term that denote the time or period during which a telephone subscriber is offering a call......from this explanation i have made tell me how u would be making call from ur own phone number through ur device and still be receiving ur own call,i stop here.i am an electrical engineering student telecom option(undergraduate).....there is room for correction if any. Thank you for your corrections. Noted! |

Sixfeetbelle: I have a question about this third mainland bridge.
Like if you're coming from the east, you can get to the Island without passing through the mainland right?
Cause I've been to VI for a conference back in 2017 but I don't remember passing through this third mainland bridge. Abi I slept through that part of the journey? If you slept, you missed o but there are alternative routes. I think one can bypass the bridge through Orile Iganmu or Western Avenue |

dangoteinlaw: where will a doctor work? With what facilities will they work with? Engineering is world's oldest it started from the military. Before ppl tot about health there were war all over the world and soldiers needed buildings to sleep, bridges to cross, places to hide. Thats why it's referred as civil engineering as opposed to military engineering. Lol, it seems you're either an engineer or an engineering student. But the mighty engineer needs the doctor, his children and family needs the doctor. This pandemic even proves the importance of doctors |

I can't just fathom how they were able to put up that kind of structure |

larryUG: In the case of call waiting, it can only be activated when the receiver has picked up or when the receiver's phone has started ringing. In order words, the signal has been sent from your phone to the satellite and the satellite has sent a signal to the receiver's phone.
But when you are calling your own number, just like you rightly said, the satellite is sending signal but signal cannot get to to your phone cos you Cannot be sending and receiving simultaneously, hence Call waiting cannot be activated, because the call has not connected in the 1st place, so there is no call that is waiting for the 1st call. Well said |
