ABUJA-The federal government has
announced plans to establish 100 schools
annually for Almajiris in the country for the
next four years, beginning this year.
Vice President Namadi Sambo made the
disclosure yesterday when he declared
open a meeting of the National Executive
Council of Nigerian Supreme Council for
Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, at the National
Mosque, Abuja.
Sambo stated that government had
concretized plans to build schools that will
address the almajiri menace as well as give
the children western education, adding that
this is “a deliberate programme to take off
from the streets the 9.6 million army of
almajiris roaming our streets. ”
He also said “government will not rest on
its oars in ensuring that it delivered on its
promises of a transformed Nigeria, noting
that President Goodluck Jonathan had aptly
cautioned that “this is no time for
lamentation but a time for transformation.”
He re-emphasized that the administration
will deliver on infrastructure, education,
health and other necessary facilities which
were promised during campaigns.
Sambo, who urged the Supreme Islamic
Council to regulate the activities of zealots
causing disaffection in the society.
