sage_:

The "I had no shoes,I sold firewood or I hawk tomato to go to school" lines seems to have been exhausted. Now this chap is talking about trekking from Iponri to VI. Must every success story be padded? Good for him though.

Bros-there is hardly any successful Nigerian entrepreneur-who has not trekked miles on the road-whether in Lagos,Ibadan,Onitsha,Kano,Makuridi,Asaba or anywhere else-except maybe those born into wealth.
And most sold one odd thing or the other at the begining-from books to clothes to food stuff to bread.

lagbaja:

what am i wrong about ?

i did not say they are non existent.I said they exaggerated their capacity. how much have u spent on buying their vouchers ?. you only told us how us used their internet service for free. remember also that registeration is a prerequite for internet service in Nigeria.

What do you do for a living? Are you a journalist or self employed? Thanks.

kenbee: Start up capital of $2m and U call that a suprise for 7yrs?
That should be above #300m

Give me just #100k & just 3yrs, and see where I shall be.

This Story doesn't Motivate me a bit!

How much can you return to me in 3 years-if I give you N100,000?
Music/Radio / Re: Rick Ross – Hold Me Back (Nigeria Version) - Video by jakaiso(m): 10:45pm On Sep 18, 2012
Are people just so stupid-or is it that they are just plain lazy. The original version of the song recorded in the USA was completly shot in the ghetto. Why would he then come to Nigeria and shoot the Nigerian version in VGC.
People need to learn to keep their mouth shut so as not to expose their ignorance-that is completly caused by laziness.

This is the link to the USA version-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVO5WhIm4uI

And why are you so ashamed of the the truth.65% of the Nigerian physical environment looks like this. And its not just a factor of poverty-its mainly due to laziness ,'dirtiness' and the corruption that has almost destroyed our country. Why did the Buhari government had to bring a one day national evironmental sanitiation day (that was basterdized by IBB and his 40 thieves)-because we are a dirty people.Lets clean up guys! dirty gutters, pit toilets in the 21st century. Compare USA ghetto to Nigerian ghetto.Ghetto are usually inhabited by poor people and are over populated-but water flows and gutters are not filled with trash.Stop throwing trash in gutters.

Politics / Re: Bill Clinton Bowing Down For Obama [PIC] by jakaiso(m): 11:01pm On Sep 06, 2012
It was last night when Clinton gave a rousing speech at the DNC. Obama was not scheduled to be there (till Thursday night) and gave a suprise entrance.Clinton really gave a great speech for even me that is not a total Democratic Party supporter.
It was all the excitment and the bowing is simply a reflection of that moment and defering to the President of the USA-not the man Barack Obama ( not taking anything from Obama though).
And its not photoshopped-I saw it live and Im sure some stations in Nigeria would have shown it.

Im sorry-but why dont people take the time to read things through.

The N5 Million was the initial capital requirment 15 Years ago- (1997) and it seemed to have been raised to N100 million within a year (though the article is not clear about this).
In 1997 a dollar was not only N75-the rent on my Uncle's 3 bedroom apartment in Ojodu was N30,000 a year. When I took over the apartment in 2002 it had became N110,000-now its close to N250,000.
So N5 million in 1997 (likely) had the purchasing power of 2012's N100 million.

The dates and figures in the article could be wrong-but thats what I have based my submission upon.

Just go to the NBC plant-and see the manager. They will settle you quickly either with free crates or some small cash-especially since it hasnt harmed you and you are not in the hospital.
5 free crates or N2000 could be useful.

@Raxxye-if the incident happened in 2008 and judgement is been delivered now in 2012-that is normal for any country in the world including the USA where I live and pretty damn fast for Nigeria. There are cases in Nigeria that have been in court since 1973. All it takes is for one side to keep asking for adjournments and creating new excuses for it.
The lunatic Army colneal who killed 9 of his fellow soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009 has still not faced justice. The bastards who planned 9 11 are still awaiting trial after 11 years-all the USA which has by any standards the best justice system-not too talk of civil cases where someone may have to cough out millions of his money.

Bruce Campbell of Portland, Oregon,USA has converted a Boeing 727 Jet to a home. Paying $100,000 to Olympic Airways in Greece. He acquired the jet at the end of its flying life from Olympic Airways in Greece, had it flown from Athens to Oregon, and finally towed to his land. (The average home in the USA costs $186,000-so $100,000 doesnt seem too bad).

I do hope that the Nigerian aviation authorities are opening their eyes so that some "smart" business guys are also not buying any of these jets-repainting them and changing the paperwork to use in Nigeria. This guy's jet flew all the way from Greece to the USA-so its not that they cant fly-but they are way past their flying age-even with a change of engine. These jets cost about $10 million used-some crazy person could think of buying one of these dead ones for a mere $100,000 ( N15 million) -the cost of a Range Rover and start flying people in the air-a flying coffin.

“Aircraft are flying homes for people,” Campbell said. “They stay in the sky sometimes for 12 to 14 hours at a time and people have to eat and use the toilet and do almost everything else we normally do -- and all of those facilities are in there. They’re built along with lighting and climate control, everything.

“What I’m trying to demonstrate is that the conversion process can be really very simple and straightforward. If people want something different (inside), they can always redecorate.”

Business / Re: Can I Make It In Nigeria With Just £10,000? by jakaiso(m): 5:04pm On Jul 13, 2012
10,000 pounds?? Thats more than enough. That is over N2 Million.Great businesses have been started with less than N100,000.

I started my business when I finished my NYSC (or rather continued what I started in University) with N1000 on September 1st 2002 and By December 31st 2003-I had made more than 4 million.

The important keys you need are:
1) Work Smart-not just hard
2) Never forget that its Ideas that rule the world
3) If you put your hands to the plough-dont look back--giving up is not an option
4)Knowledge(Call it wisdom-facts-what you will)
5) The Grace of God

Having money to start a business is good-but optional.People have started businesses with $500 million (75 billion naira) and gone bankrupt in 2 years! And others have turned N20,000 to N100 million in less than 10 years,

I will advise the following:

1) Carefullly look for 2 people you can stay with for about 6 months.Let them know that you are coming in broke and "failed"-dont be ashamed of that. And its important they know that-so they wont be looking up to you for money or planning to kidnap you.Let one be in Lagos and the other in the hinterland-like some village (with light) in Ogun State or Oyo State.Plan to give them 40k to 80k (in installments) as some form of thank you for the space.

2) The best business to go into is one you have a great intrest in or one that is already in high demand and you can start easily.I strongly suggest you possibly come into the Country with laptops and blackberries ( I shuttle the USA and Nigeria and this is what I do).But of course-link with someone on ground in Nigeria who knows about the market and do your own research online and buying old copies of the newspapers like the Guardian and have them sent to you to compare pricing. You can also consideer the telephone industry, clothing, books ( I made a good chunk of change selling motivational books when I was in the University-going from bank to offices to churches to people's home and I built up a clientele who I regulary supplied).
If you buy 1000 pounds worth of used ( not new Bros) laptops and BB-you can easily get 50% returns on them.

3) Before you leave the UK-establish several good links with people you have known in the UK-who can help you if you need to buy or ship things from the UK to Nigeria.
If you have legal status-keep at 1000 to 2000 pounds in the UK in an interest bearing account and possibly with a good stock broker.

Dont plan to spend more than 4000 pounds on all you want to do.It is from that 3000 pounds to 5000 pounds, you must generate income, start a business and it is from that income you will need to get at least N600,000 to 1.5 million to get an apartment of your own in Nigeria within a year.
Keep the remaining 5000 pounds to 7000 pounds for at least 1 year without touching it-even if you are dying of hunger. And if you find yourself dying of hunger-go to the village and start farming!

I could go on and on- but as @Valicious said -you have to think yourself.
