t-something:
An Ex-governor with no traceable source of income lavished billions on his fictitious 60th birthday celebration and it was ok, but the mother of a sitting president donates 2 hostel blocks worth less than 100 million to a university and she's called all sorts of names.

The hypocrisy of my southwest brothers !!!

Hmmm....I do not support the corruption of ANY politician-East, South, West,or North-but Bola Tinubu has been a multi millionire in all curriencies even as far back as 1994 -in the days of NADECO when he funded the exile of all anti Abacha politicians who could not pay their bills in England.

Tinubu was the accountant or an accountant with the oil company Mobile -if I am not wrong.

jechona: Please I need advise on what to do.

I just finished service and have a temporal teaching job at hand that does not give me chance to do any other work.
I have 150k I was able to save during my service year but I dont know what exactly to invest it in.
I need ideas weather to buy a land here where I served or to do something else with it.
Thank you.

Like @ AN Agency said-mini importation.

I would advise Laptops/Blackberries/Tablets using a reliable source.

You can buy 2 to 4 used solid laptops for N75,000 including shipping and sell for N100,000 to N130,000 within 2 to 4 weeks or 5 to 10 used blackberries for N75,000 including shipping and sell for N125,000 to N150,000.

Or import any other thing that:
I) You have previous knowledge of.
2) Is in demand in Nigeria
3) Easy to sell
4) Whose value/price is stable for at least a year.

I am talking of payment with credit/debit cards by customers. Customers can not use those methods to pay for small amounts and instantly too.

Paypal in Nigeria? Please how?

Please, I need an example of a third party processor in the USA with an affiliate in Nigeria.

1) You can use 2checkout.com to receive payments from anyone-whether its $1 or $10,000 they can pay with their credit/debit cards on your website or just on an email invoice without an invoice. I registered an account with them as far back as 2003. Sign up yourself at www.2checkout.com- But between 2003 and 2013-many other online merchants have been offering the service-you can compare and contrast on google.

2) I have been using paypal in Nigeria since 2002-but its through a US Partner/US Address-same day service. Sometimes real time service.

3) There are several businesses in Nigeria that have US affiliates-I also offer the service: if you want to make a paypal payment -pay to a GTB account or by cash to one of my reps- and same day I can make the paypal payment for you-sometimes as soon as GTB acknowledges the payment. Any payment made to GTB can be accessed almost immediately. If you are receiving payment by paypal-I can receive for you and pay you same day by any means you want:
Western Union/Money Gram is one means of payment.

You can receive payments:
I) Western Union, MoneyGram
2) Bank to bank transfer

You can make payments
I) With your credit/debit card
2) Paypal
3) Third party processor in the USA with an affiliate in Nigeria

I have been doing business online since 1999 and did most of it FROM Nigeria

Religion / Re: Leave Any Church That Speaks In Tongues(gibberish) by jakaiso(m): 3:23pm On Jul 28, 2013
[quote author=benalvino]One of the "Tenets" of the Pentecostal movement is the belief in the infilling of the "Holy Spirit" with the evidence of "Speaking in Tongues" or an "Unknown Tongue". There own interpretation of this is the Spirit of God ... "The Holy Ghost" ... is speaking through them. and if the holy spirit is speaking through them how do they know what they are praying to God? they usual pray in tongues(gibberish) in Nigeria and preach in normal English or known tongue(language)

quote]

While I cannot completely disagree with you concerning tonugues-I believe you were wrong when you said that God no longer speaks to man directly. Can you mention two or more verses to support that.

The New Testament is evidence that God spoke to man afer Pentecost.
And then the following verses:

John 16: 13-13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Luke 12: 11-12 11 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

And there many instances where the Holy Spirit guided early Christians or where the Lord Jesus himself spoke to people or sent Angels:

These examples included Cornelius ( even before he became a Christian - and he was NOT even a Jew)
Ananias who baptised Saul who late became Paul
Paul when the Holy Spirit prevented him from entering a particular city

A study of scripture will show that God speaks to us in 4 ways ( this is not a doctrine-just my own study of the Bible , what I have heard from others and my experiences validated by scripture)

1)He speaks to us whenever the written word (the Bible) comes alive in our hearts. A person can read the Bible all his life and this never happens.
2) He speaks to us through other people ( like when Agabus came to Paul)
3) He speaks to us through a clear definite impression in our hearts
4) In a clear distinct voice-If God speaks to you-you will KNOW it is God-aside from the fact of course that WHATEVER He says comes to pass.

Concerning Tongues-I believe 1 Corinthians 12 says it all-especially verse 30 asks rhetorically " Do all speak Tongues" That chapter shows clearly that speaking in Tongues is:
1) A gift
2) It is not the 'best' gift
3) Not all will speak in tongues
4) God gives everyone whatever gifts he decides to or and in some cases what they may request.

You should thank Lord Lugard for making Lagos Nigeria Capital & Gowon 4 using all our resources to develop Lagos attracting investment and people. Lagos is developed on Federal govt platform. Development in Lagos is mainly done by non yorubas and foreigners for your information.
Lagos would have been among the poorest state in Nigeria if not for the fact that it was the Nation's capital for more than 50yrs. See what is happening to ABJ.
It's a lovely structures anyways.

Cant totatlly agree with you. Even without being the capital-Lagos couldn have modestly deveopled-at least far ahead of many States:
1) Its bordered by an ocean and could have had a sea port-.
2) Its the entry point from Ghana/Togo/benin and would have had customs.
3) It would have been under the development program of Awolowo/AG from 1955 to 1963
4) It was the main point of entry for the arrival of British ships in the 19th century.
5) Its where the Brazilian freed slaves came. They built many solid infrasture even before Lagos was made the capital ( in those days Calabar was the capital)-before ANY nigerian city had modern or european style buildings -

ok. point taken.
i thought u were saying that the houses were too expensive compared to US (without considering the location ie lagos island vs rural village in nigeria).
so what u mean is that even though they are expensive, poor people should be able to buy them with credit and pay over their lifetime. lol u might have a point.

I understand you Bros -but not poor people. Poor people in America live in projects and trail parks or Section 8 housing.I dont expect poor people to live in such house or condos. But it should not be a big deal for someone in the middle class. The middle class is the strenght of any country that wants to develop economically. When all you all have is the poor, very poor, rich and very rich-that country is heading towards disaster.
The credit system allows the poor to graduate to get to the middle class and acts as a safety net for the rich who make lossess in business.
No one needs to pay back credit over their lifetime (though many do) thats slavery.

You can pay a car loan back in 3 years -a mortagage in 5 to 15 years. The key is financial wisdom and planning.

In my country Nigeria-unless you fall into either of these catagories: you steal, are born into wealth-or you are the type that can really husssle, take risks, generate ideas that are turned into money-most Nigerians dont build their own houses until their late 40s and 50s or buy a car until their 30s. It took one of my Uncles who was the GM of an Insurance company in the 90s 20 years ( when he was almost 60) to complete a house in Lanbe area after Sabo/Ojodu- omo onile had taken his first 2 plots of land and even now-his house is actully what he planned to be the BQ-there is still a vast plot of land left which he doesnt have the resources to complete. Another Uncle who is a Prof at LASU completed his house 2 years ago at the age of almost 65.
Whereas another Uncle ( i have 11 Uncles and Aunts on my mums side!) who was a hustler and risk taker had built his house before he was 40 in 1980 in Kaduna! Of course for my Uncle who remained in the village -having a house was no big deal.
If these Uncles (and Aunts) had had access to the credit system -they could have bought houses way back in the late 70s ( they all graduated from Universities in the 70s.)
In the USA- a 25 year old with or without a degree can buy a house-if hes 'ordinary' the house can be paid off by the time hes 55, if hes fast-he can have it paid off by the time hes 30 to 35.
And most cars are paid off in 2 to 5 years.

The credit system helps the middle class who in turn develop the economy of a country!

1. how many nigerians do u know buy houses and cars on credit.
2. ever heard of sub-prime morgage credit and credit crisis that is the main reason behind the recession going on in the USA right now? many low income families buying big homes and cars they can't afford on credit and can't pay back.
3. even a common nurse in USA will be considered a millionaire in nigeria. what's ur point? dollar has more value than naira. duh.

My point basically is that the credit system allows the vast majority of the population of any country to live well above poverty and acquire what those in teh 3rd world consider luxuries. Having a car, having a good home in a well developed neighbourhood are not luxuries in the developed world.
The sub prime disaster started after the dot com crash when the feds lowered interest rates-the banks got easy money and started lending anybody-job or no job, good or bad credit credit-that was 1999/2000- 8 years later it al collapsed. But before 1999 and now after the recession that has started easing off-people are still getting credit to buy houses and cars-the key is to do it within your means.
If you $30,000 a year ( and your wife $24,000 to $30,000 or more) and have been able to save $10,000 there is nothing wrong in placing that $10,000 as down payment for house that you buy for $130,000-with your income -you can pay that off in 5 to 10 years -although the banks will offer you 30 years!

osinachukwu: mumu of the highest order, you just won the award for the mumu of the century

He's a bit right Bros. Lagos was the capital i.e. the city of Lagos (Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Victoria Island)-not Lagos State as a whole. The state of Lagos was only created in 1967. Before 1967-Ikeja,Epe, Ikorodu, Maryland ( I think Yaba area as well were all parts of the Western Region). Before 1967-Nigeria had Northern region, East, West (mid west in 1963) and Lagos. And by Lagos it was Lagos Lagos. Ikeja and co were never Lagos-just like Mowe, Abeokuta, ijebu ode were never and are not Lagos.

Your post makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. Those buildings are NOT meant for the average Nigerian (at least not yet). They are for professionals or upper middle class families. Even in USA where I live, your average Joe won't be able to afford such condominiums. Maybe in empty, dead city like Detroit, Michigan (it declared bankruptcy less than a week ago!) or depopulated rural areas in Florida or Texas.

Lagos Island is a premium real estate location (what NY or LA is to USA). Not a rural village or dying city. Stop trying to make silly comparisons.

Bros I beg to differ-see the pictures of where I am staying in Florida-i have a place in Florida and MN. This kind of building/estate would be reserved for billionaires or people with hundreds of millions in Nigeria. But here in the USA -anyone with a job-and good credit ( and good credit can easily be gotten within 3 years as long as you have a steady job-get at least 3 credit cards plus some other form of credit like a car payment or mortagage and pay on time).
By American standards I am just lower middle class -in Nigeria I would be considered a multi millionaire as this house is worth at least N100 million!( though by God's Grace I am on the way to middle middle class-and then up -till I join the likes of Dangote and Mark Cuban)

There are over 100 houses and condos in this gated Florida estate and Im 100% sure there is not a single millionaire here! Over 80 percent of cars here are 2011 and after and many 2013/2014. To drive a 2014 car in Naija-you are likely the type who's saying good evening Alhaji to Dangote at the Lagos club and he's greeting you back mentioning your first or compound name!

And with wisdom its easy to pay off the mortgage in less than 10 years.

Couldnt upload all the pictures as the system says I cant upload pictures bigger than 200kb

ebankole: somebody is yet to amswer my question,is nigeria really a sh1t hole as some fereigners often refer it to?

yes i do know we have some bad areas in our states-but really urs was watchin the developments in some parts of the country and must say was impressed-what is really shiiiit hole about naija?is it........?

I am a Nigerian and have lived in Nigeria. I have also lived in the USA (visting many parts), Ghana and the UK -plus have visited many EU and West African countries. Much of what the foriegn media reports about Nigeria is either outrightly false or half truths.

I was once watching a documentary on BBC about an issue that happened in Lagos, Nigeria. It centered around a meeting that held at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja. Just before they showed Sheraton-the camera seemed to show the drive-up to the hotel. Anyone who had never been to Lagos-would think that Sheraton was an island of opulence in the midst of unimagineable squalor. They showed the filth that is found around the water houses in Bariga I think (which I often saw while driving on the 3rd mainland bridge).Im not sure if those water houses are still there-but they are almost an hour from Maryland where Sheraton Hotel is.
Yet if you were watching that documentary, you would think that all the buildings around the hotel were filty ghetto squalors.
On Mobolaji Bank Anthony way which passes from Ikeja general hospital /ikeja plaza area to the Maryland junction and goes in front of Sheraton Hotel-there are $1 million dollars home especially at the Estate near Ikorodu road (i think its called Onigbongbo estate or something) and this estate is not or at least was not in the top 30 prime areas in Lagos ( I briefly practiced real estate after graduating from University with a degree in Estate Management). And there are of course also low middle class houses around that area.
And not to forget Sheraton Hotel is barely 2 miles from Opebi/Allen Avenue and GRA, Ikeja.
There is not one ghetto or shanty town in that area. But the average foreigner watching that BBC deocumentary would think that Nigerians generally live in squalor and filth while the hotels are reserved for foreigners!

And just to tell you-please dont think that people who live in ghettos or the popular face me I face you buildings are like the poor black people who live in government projects and poor white people who live in trail parks (white trash) in the USA-no way! Many of them have N100,000 stacked under their matteresses or with the thrift collector-and while a salary of N100,000 is just $700- in Nigeria it will give you the life of someone who earns $3000 in the USA.

Many of these people are molue drivers /okada riders, petty traders who earn up to N1000 to N5000 per day.N1000 is barely $7-but N1000 will get you what $100 gets you in the USA. I have lived and live in both countries and know!
They just cant afford the expensive rents in Lagos payable in many cases 2 to 3 years in advance and they cant or wont go back to the village-because Lagos is "where the life is" and the stepping stone to Yankee or Jand!

Music/Radio / Zach Sobiech Is Dead... by jakaiso(m): 6:22pm On May 20, 2013
You might have watched his video on youtube or CNN-he's the teenage Cancer patient who took the world by storm with his single : "Clouds". A song he wrote as a way to say goodbye to his family and friends.
He died this morning surrounded by family and his girlfriend, according to a CaringBridge post by Zach's mother. He was 18

The catchy tune inspired countless tributes and covers, including a celebrity video -- a "Clouds" cover that People magazine says "could easily be the most moving celebrity shout-out of all time."

Dozens of stars are featured in the video, which airs on the SoulPancake YouTube channel of Rainn Wilson, known for his role in the television show "The Office." Among them: Bryan Cranston, Sara Bareilles, Colbie Caillat, Mark Duplass, Anna Faris, Jenna Fischer, Ed Helms, The Lumineers, Jack McBrayer, Jason Mraz, Phillip Phillips, Sarah Silverman and Ashley Tisdale.

Zach Sobiech died the way he lived -- with grace, strength, love and joy.

LYRICS TO THE SONG
Well I fell down, down, down
Into this dark and lonely hole
There was no one there to care about me anymore
And I needed a way to climb and grab a hold of the edge
You were sitting there holding a rope

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now

When I get back on land
Well I’ll never get my chance
Be ready to live and it’ll be ripped right out of my hands
Maybe someday we’ll take a little ride
We’ll go up, up, up and everything will be just fine

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear

It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now
If only I had a little bit more time
If only I had a little bit more time with you

We could go up, up, up
And take that little ride
And sit there holding hands
And everything would be just right
And maybe someday I’ll see you again
We’ll float up in the clouds and we’ll never see the end

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now

I agree with most of what you posted except for the part where you said they have order. The USA has gone through some of the most disorderly events and periods in history. The gans of new york. The mafia reign. I can go on and on. BUt in all, they did have some level of respect for each other and somehow developed a common vision. Nigeria's problem is simply different groups with different visions and goals. A city divided against itself cannot stand

LastPope-I understand you-but note that The gangs of new york were eradicated.
The Mafia is no more.
That to me is order. Order doesnt really mean there wont be evil-but with order-it can be predicted, prevented and eliminated.

In Nigeria-home invasion can happen anywhere-Ajegunle-Lekki-VI-Sango. Whether you are rich or poor-living in a slum or secured estate-it can happen-but for the Grace of God.
In the USA-for example in the state of Minneasota-every year between 15 and 20 people are killed on the streets of Minneapolis-the killers are always black gang members aged 16 to 30. The victims are 99% black. I have live in Champlin for over 5 years-and there has never been 1 street killing. Of course-a husband might kill his wife-but what I am saying is that in an orderly society-crime is eassier to prevent AND solve-

The Mafia stayed that long because they were blackmailing J Edgar-who for over 30 years denied that the Mafia existed. And J Edgar stayed that long in offer (almost 40 years) because he was blackmailing President after President.
And if you check 99 percent of the victims of the Mafia ( as in murder victims) were other criminals.

Armed robbery started in Nigeria after the civil war when thousands of soldiers were demobilised-and it has stayed until every one has become used to it. Now when some prominent person is killed-the politicians and police are happy to say " oh it was common armed robbery -not assaination" as if one is better than the other.

Now kidnapping that started as a political statement in 2005 as become big business.

Remember the first set of foreigners kidnapped? Obasanjo recieve them after they were freed because it was big news. ATIKU received the next set-then it Was Governor Ibori--then his Deputy-then the Delta State SSG-AFTER a few months-it was no longer big news.

thelastPope: There is something really not adding up in this whole incident

1. No terrorist group has claimed responsibility yet.
2. There are silmutaneous threats going on all over at the same time.
3. Some of the early evidences sounds too simplistic. All terrorists know there are hundreds of cameras around. Especially during an event like this. There are even more cameras setup to monitor the event. So why will they carry out their activities in the glare of cameras? Doesnt sound right. The only persons that would do a thing like that without minding the cameras are suicide bombers, not persons who want to bomb and escape.
4. The terrorists are not fools. They know if they are caught on camera, the security agencies will come after them and paste their pictures everywhere. So why would they show their faces on camera?

It looks like a far deeper thing than what we sre seeing on the surface.

Coordinated efforts by terrorists groups are very hard these days-and most of the groups have been broken. Lone wolf terrorists are the danger these days.
In the last four years alone-dozens of potential terrorists have been arrested and jailed for life for planning terrorist operations with people they thought were partners not knowing they were FBI spies.
2 years ago -one of them parked a van at a the public square in portland oregon-where 25,000 were gathering for a the Christmas festival-hoping to kill as many people as possible.
When his partner (the FBI informant) asked him if he wasnt concerned that there would be children there-the bastard terrorist wannabe said : " thats even better-many of them will die"
He clicked the remote from a safe distance -not knowing that the FBI had put a fake bomb in the van. The m....f.cker wanted to kill hundreds -but wasnt ready to die.

Omexonomy: obama inherited system that is perfect since 1920. Gej inherited imperfect system since 1960. And most dunce in nairaland want him to make it perfect within 2 or 3 years

Perfect since 1920? how?
No system is perfect? Crimes happen in America, innocent people are wrongly jailed? Bombs go off. Accidents happen. Planes crash.

The difference is just in the USA and other socities there is order. The USA has had order since 1776-when it won its independence.

The first President served two terms of 4 years and quit without been forced suprising even the then King of England. When the USA was celebrating its 53rd independence-it already had several former Presidents who won elections and handed over without controversy-in that period-it had no coup plots or the Army taking power-innocent people especially the poor were not been jailed or robbed of their rights.Yet it had people from different cultures and faiths -while the majority were from England-there were people from Spain, the Netherlands, Beligium, France all from different faiths (many sworn mortal enemies back in Europe-the Catholics had just finished 200 years of killing the Protestants) But like any other society it had its problems and even had to go to war ( a civil war in 1861 and war with England in 1780 to solve some of its problems.

You dont need 2 years to have a functioning society. All you need is a people and culture who respect their neighbours and have some form of integrity.

thelastPope:

Solving crimes in America has nothing to do with Obama. Security cameras are installed everywhere and the security agencies use it to track crimes. They have been installed for decades and have been in use since the early 30s.

Early 20s how? The television was only invented in 1925. And it was a massive tube!
CCTV was first used for a space launch in the 40s and CCTV as common place public infrasture for security was in the 70s/80s.
