Former President Goodluck Jonathan and prominent Ijaw leaders, including state governors from the Niger Delta region prevailed on foremost ex-militant leader, High Chief Government Epemupolo popularly called Tompolo to abort a scheduled meeting of ex-militant generals in Bayelsa State, fresh facts emerged yesterday.

According to reports, the call by Jonathan was reported to have convinced Tompolo to abort the meeting and allow state governors from the region meet with President Muhammudu Buhari on the issues of the hitches experienced in the Federal Government amnesty programme. The plan by a 40-year-old man to marry a 13- year-old primary 5 pupil of POWA Primary School in Abuja has been stopped by The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC. The marriage, which was billed to take place on July 24 in Abuja, was halted by the Commission after an investigation.

Ex-miitants under the aegis of National Council of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators, have called on its members not to attend the ‘crucial’ meeting being convened by an ex-militant leader, Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo. Tompolo had, through an electronic mail, invited commanders of militant groups in the oil rich region to an ‘urgent and crucial’ meeting.

'General’ Israel Akpodoro, the President of NCNDE, in an interview in Abuja alleged that the meeting has mischief and bad intentions adding that it is convened by ex-militants loyal to some senior citizens in the previous administration. He therefore said, he has directed his 12,000 members not to attend the meeting as he and his members will not be party to a meeting that is capable of instigating crisis.

At least eight people were killed in an accident which occurred along Ilesa/Akure express road, Ilaramokin. According to an eye witness, the accident occurred when the driver of a lorry loaded with cement, coming from Akure lost control and rammed into a Toyota Sienna bus coming from Lagos, heading to Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.

All the eight passengers in the Sienna bus, including the driver identified as Sunday Efo, it was gathered, died instantly, while the driver of the lorry sustained serious injuries. In a bid to reduce cost of governance, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the sale of nine aircrafts from the presidential fleet. The authorities of the Nigerian Army have heeded to the order of President Muhammadu Buhari to move its command centre to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital to fight Boko Haram sect. According to sources, all arrangements have been concluded for all Service Chiefs to move in tomorrow (Tuesday).
