Victor Ume, your days are numbered. |
Finally, it's gonna be a Soludo/Obaze ticket for APGA. Don't ask me how, just relax till next week. |
Trust me folks, Peter Obi has got nothing to do with this. This is Victor Ume acting silly but he will be surprised on Monday as Obi's plan B will play out. The reconciliation was apparently a hoax. |
• Aspirants Storm Abuja To Appeal ‘Verdict’ • Committee Illegal, Says Okwu • How Membership Card From Rival Chairman Disqualified Aspirants • Ukwa Denies Allegation SIGNS that the protracted leadership crisis in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) would negatively affect the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State emerged after the party’s screening exercise in Abuja, where six aspirants, including former Central Bank Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, were disqualified. Dissatisfied with the process, the affected aspirants, some of whom are already in Abuja, have vowed to appeal the “verdict” of the committee. Although the screening committee, headed by Alhaji Tayo Sowunmi, gave varied reasons ranging from pending investigations by anti-corruption agencies to the aspirants’ lack of capacity to prosecute their ambition, the disqualification of Dr. Chike Obidigbo, on grounds of filing a party membership card signed by the rival national chairman, Maxi Okwu, suggests that the so-called reconciliation between Governor Peter Obi and Victor Umeh was a façade. There were allegations of underground plot by Umeh’s loyalists, who allegedly held a meeting to ensure that certain individuals, including the immediate past Secretary to the Anambra State Government (SSG), Oseloka Obaze, whose names were marked at the meeting, were not cleared to run the governorship election on the APGA platform. A source within the National Headquarters of APGA told The Guardian that Umeh and his inner caucus members had sworn to deal with certain aspirants identified as core loyalists of Governor Obi. The source, who is conversant with the affairs of the party, stressed that the plot was to ensure that such people with known allegiance to the Governor neither fly the party’s flag nor succeed the incumbent governor. “But, apart from (the issue of) loyalty to Obi, there were others like (Prof.) Soludo who ‘eternal influence from Legacy House’ do not want their names to appear on the APGA column of the ballot paper,” the source disclosed, adding that it was in a bid to execute that narrow mandate that the serious contenders from Anambra North Senatorial zone were disqualified. But a member of the three-man screening panel, Ichie Onwuka Ukwa denied any mischievous plot, saying: “We did not screen out anybody. First of all, we followed the guidelines, did interviews and then those that passed, passed; those that did not qualify were, of course, disqualified. So those that met the conditions of the guidelines were cleared. “Let me tell you this, approach whoever you want to approach among those candidates; the reasons for their disqualification were clearly stated in the certificate of clearance or disqualification. It is not a question of speculation. Political speculation has no space in something of this nature; it is a serious business. There is nothing and it has nothing to do with anything playing out, we have passed that stage in APGA. (The issue about) Maxi Okwu is not something one should start talking about; we have passed that stage.” On what impact the contentious disqualification, especially that of Soludo, could cause the party in its efforts to win the governorship election, Ukwa said the party was marching forward, maintaining that “he (Soludo) is not the only one disqualified neither is he the first to be disqualified. “Exercise of this nature has never been the end of any political party when an individual is disqualified. Besides, this is a democratic process; the opening for appeal exists. If anyone feels sufficiently aggrieved, he should take advantage of that opportunity for redress through the appeal process,” he declared, adding that, since the appeal panel has not even started work, it would amount to speculation to say that some names were marked for disqualification. “Dr. Chike Obidigbo, one of the disqualified aspirants said he has been inundated with phone calls from many people making inquiries on why he was disqualified. “In my instance, they said I filed a membership card endorsed by Maxi Okwu. But the truth of the matter is that at the pronouncement of the Court of Appeal Judgment recognising Victor Umeh as National Chairman, I obtained a fresh membership card endorsed by him and sent to the party with a request that the former card should be replaced with the recent one signed by Umeh. “Whether they effected that replacement is what I don’t know; but, as we speak, I am on my way to Abuja to face the Appeal committee. A lot of confusion is in the air such that you don’t know whom to trust. I hope they will spare the party these further distractions.” Francis Emeka Idigo, another disqualified aspirant, also hinted that he would appeal to the committee. “Being a law-abiding and loyal party man, I will go on Appeal and see to the logical conclusion of the whole thing. The reason they gave is laughable and not one of the conditions in the guidelines for the primaries. They said lack of capacity to conduct the election. I have been in an election before; this is not my first time. Financial statement was never asked for, even if they did, our Electoral Act stipulated the maximum a candidate can spend in the election, which is N200 million. And I don’t think there is anybody that started this race that does not have N200 million.” Asked whether crisis of leadership led to the skewed screening, Idigbo, a lawyer, added: “I would not know; I have asked my supporters to remain calm as I fight it out. I know in the end justice will prevail. I will be back in the race and I will contest and win the primary.” The governorship aspirant said the disqualification of Prof. Soludo erases the suspicion that the screening committee worked towards a predetermined outcome even as he said it was impossible that some people were working to soften the ground for an eventual governorship victory for Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, who left APGA for the rival Labour Party. On how the screening affects the reconciliation and reunification of APGA factions, factional National Chairman, Maxi Okwu, said he would not say whether Obi was stabbed in the back or a victim of mischief, saying: “Peter Obi remains my leader and I will speak to him privately.” However, Okwu insisted that there was no true reconciliation in the party. According to him, Umeh and Obi came to a truce for the purpose of the elections. “How that will play out is what we are still watching. But take it from me; it is a short-gun marriage. “As I told you, we have filed our suit and it would be processed on Monday. Jega has refused to answer my questions because he cannot answer them. He has been playing hide and seek with us. I have dragged them to the Court of law; he must answer the questions. And that case is going to change the face of APGA forever. “Finally that screening committee is illegal. Article 16 of the APGA Constitution, which is here before me states clearly- this section deals with duties and functions of committees; (A) Working Committee, (B) Finance, (C) Publicity, (D) Screening/selection committee. This is the constitution of APGA filed with INEC, (Independent National Electoral Commission) which must be obeyed; but Umeh is lawless. “Forget that he has been throwing documents around quoting the law. Subsection (D) says, screening and selection committee shall be headed by the national chairman of the party and six members to be appointed by the NWC, (National Working Committee) but Umeh put up a three-man committee to do the screening. It is an illegal committee and what they did is a farce! But that is their headache; we will meet in the court of law.” Prof. Soludo could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report but a former State Chairman of the defunct All People’s Party (APP) Mr. Bonaventure Maduafokwa, said if, indeed, the former CBN Governor was disqualified for not being in the party for a long time or due to a pending investigation, APGA was not being fair to its own image. Maduafokwa recalled that, in 2011, the party fielded Mr. Chuma Nzeribe 24 hours to the primaries, basically because he had the capacity to run for the election, recalling that it was based on his (Nzeribe’s) popularity that he gave Dr. Andy Uba, a good fight for the Senatorial seat. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/national-news/130304-anambra-how-apga-crisis-shot-down-soludo-others |
coded80: both you and the op are wrong, ondo state has the highest number of professors in nigeria, if u doubt it visit school like oau,ui,funnab, unilag, unilorin, abu, lasu, futa, futo, uniport, uniben and so on, u will find out that 35 to 40% of those school professors are from ondo state, even university of ibadan that has the highest professors of 180, about 75 of them are from ondo state. How about UNN, NAU, FUTO, ANSU, IMSU, EBSU, ESUT, Madonna, ABSU, MOU etc. The names of schools you just listed above shows you've never been outside the South West. |
fijiano202: Firstly this is a dumb write-up and u need to get ur facts right, only a dumb writer we make reference to 2010 in year 2013 to acertain his prove becos between 2010 and 2013 nigeria has produce over 300 professors in different courses.Secondly concerning the nigeria University Commision Yoruba has the highest number of professor in diaspora, not every yoruba got their professorship from a Nigerian University or NUCAre you suggesting that the number of professors from Ekiti state has increased tremendously between 2010 and 2013? While I'm not disputing that, it however doesn't tally with available statistics like JAMB, WAEC etc. which point to the fact that the number of people going to school in the South West has been on a steady decline at least in the last 2 decades. |
. |
k2039: OP, you are yarning dust and smoke (a result of being high on weed or maybe you have been smoking pubic hair). That is one of the age old lies the author set out to destroy. Do you have any proof that "your beloved Ekiti" has got the highest number of professors in Nigeria? |
Soludo will be cleared today. You heard it first on Nairaland. |
Facts can never be hidden. To be first does not mean you would win the race; let us open up all our institutions and may the best man win. Let us not depend on handouts or privileges but on heard work. Let us compete and give the best positions to our brightest – be it Ibo, Yourba or Fulani, and then we shall see who is the most successful Nigerian. I find it difficult not to respond to some of these long-held lies that are constantly being peddled by Yorubas. One is that the Yoruba have the largest number of professors in the country. I would again ask that we stick to facts and statistical records. The Nigerian Universities Commission has a record of the state with the largest number of professors on their records and as at 2010 that state is Imo State followed by Ondo State and then Anambra State; the next state is Ekiti and then Delta before Kwara State. I am sure you Yorubas are surprised. When you sit in the South-West do not think others are sleeping but I wish to address another historical fact and that is who were the first Nigerians to receive Western education. It is important that these issues be examined in their historical context and evidence through research be presented for all to examine. I have continued my research for as the great sociologist and father of modern sociology – Emile Durkheim – put it, the definition of a situation is real in its consequence . What this simply means is that one must never allow a perceived falsehood to become one’s reality and by extension individuals who accept a defined position act as though the situation is real and apply themselves in that narrowly defined perspective. Why is this important to state it is because for long the Yoruba have peddled lies that have almost become accepted as the truth by other Nigerians but it is important that we lay down the facts for others to examine and come to their own conclusion for facts are facts. Let’s go back to education. Historically, Western education resulted as a product of indigenous ethnic groups interacting with the whites through trade. The dominant groups sold slaves, ivory gold and a host of other products to their European counterparts in exchange for finished goods – wine, tobacco, mirrors, etc. http://www.newsexpressngr.com/news/detail.php?news=2547&title=Igbo-scholar-disgraces-Femi-Fani-Kayode-•Demolishes-claims-on-Igbo%2FYoruba-history-with-facts-and-figures |
Nice one Obi Nwakanma. |
Dr. Chris Nwabueze OON, Onwa! We thank Gid for blessing Anambra state with your administration but unfortunately this time, your time has past and we have moved on. We do not recycle leaders do we have decided to go with Soludo. Concentrate on the senate and see if you can sponsor at least a bill before your 1st term runs out. |
bashy_demy: Oga stop ranting here jor its slavery and not apprenticeship, I will you take a boy of 8yrs from village to Lagos to go and serve one man and call that apprenticeship. and also you say 5 to 7 that is exactly the year we use studying in university and becoming great in life. Moreso are you saying the boy of 7-10yrs taken from Village to Lagos to serve one man will serve him for 7yrs and he will pay him off? its big lie. They now went to village to get young boy of let say 8yrs so te boy will be able to serve him for atleast 20yrs or more before he get hs freedom. I tire for this modern slavery ibos embark ooSince you do not know how the Igbo apprentice system works, I'll educate you a bit on it; One cannot turn a blind eye to the level of poverty that pervades the country Nigeria though less pronounced in The South Eastern part of the country. If you carry out a study, you will find out that most if not all of those that drop out after High school are from families that can't afford sending them to Uni or College as the case may be either because the family is poor that they can't sponsor any of their kids through higher education or they can't sponsor all of their kids thereby making it necessary that some will drop for their siblings to continue. Again, the ingenuity of the Igbos is being pronounced in our traditional business apprenticeship scheme instituted by our fore fathers. this apprenticeship scheme has made it possible for billionaires to rise up from families which hitherto were barely able to feed (a rare occurrence in the other regions as it is either a Michael Otedola's son, an Abiola's son or a Danatata's cousin). Note that those 'DROP OUT TRADERS AND SPARE PARTS IMPORTERS' you are referring to are those who if they found themselves across the Niger, would be Area boys and if up North, would be Almajiris. That explains why notwithstanding the fact that the Igbos are producing the highest number of graduates in Nigeria, those 'DROP OUTS' are still topping the charts in their different fields of endeavour. That is the 'CAN DO' spirit of the average Igbo man at work. |

I tire for this modern slavery ibos embark ooDude, nobody takes an 8 yr old for apprenticeship. Infant in most communities in Anambra state there is law that nobody goes for apprenticeship until after the completion of secondary education. As for going to university to become great, keep on deceiving yourself. Ask those who have graduated how great they are now. Ask your graduate banker friends how much those 'illiterate' traders deposit in their accounts daily and you'll curse yourself for not having the opportunity they had. |
Dat~ibo~boi:Ask AD which changed to AC and then to ACN and now APC. |
Saladin1: Igbo people rejecting APC now, make dem no cry of marginalisation when political office is being shared. They will forget when the likes of Tinubu and Buhari are sacrificing to build the party and they will expect to get automatic nomination for presidency. Anyways I will prefer Ngige for vice president if Anambra people let emotion cloud their judgement. Some things are free in life. That includes dreaming. Dream on mate! |
bizgynbala: Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and key oppositionfigure in his capacity as Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has accused President Jonathan of playing politics across religious and ethnic lines. He also accused the current leadership of the country of stealing, womanizing and being drunkards.Last time I checked, Femi Fani Kayode was still a chieftain of APC. Who is deceiving who? |
Now, what's the difference between this man and a secondary school student looking for WAEC or JAMB 'expo'? |
Is this the way APC intends to run Nigeria? |
All Progressives Congress (APC) should learn some decency from the Peoples Democratic Party. I am almost tempted to write a long article on my experience with Lai Mohammed who is the National Publicity Secretary of Nigeria's main opposition party APC, but I will keep it brief, I will hold back and give him a benefit of doubt. Meanwhile I am impressed with the Peoples Democratic Party's ‘Director of Publicity’ Tony Okeke for having the decency to contact us on the programme #PolititrickswithKO. Mr Okeke was invited to the programme so as to balance the debate with the APC. Okeke called in to thank us for the invitation, gave reasons why the PDP was unable to attend, stating the PDP was at the moment preparing for elections in Anambra State and also that rather than have a Skype interview they would like to send in a representative. He also went further that he was unable to speak for the PDP on a live programme as he was not an elected official, shortly after Okeke dropped the phone a National Executive of the PDP called in to thank the producers for the invitation and he went further to state that every platform is important for the PDP to ‘engage Nigerians’ and thus would be willing to participate anytime he was in London. Compare the attitude of the PDP to the APC, the programme contacted Alhaji Lai Mohammed six days before going live, he gave his word to take part via skype and even asked for the topic, he was provided same, we decided to be careful and waited 4 days to get reconfirmation from him just to see if his busy scheduled would change, Lai assured us everything was ok and we could go on and advertise his name, that we did, it took Lai Mohammed two days to provide us with a Skype ID. We continued to engage Lai even getting a text message confirmation that he was going to take part on Thursday 9th August 2013. We arrived at the studio with Profesor Okey Ndibe an award wining Nigerian writer who came from from the United States of America. Four hours to the show Mr Mohammed called hinting at wanting to have prepared questions, his request was politely rejected, but he still gave his word that he would be taking part in the programme, one hour to the programme we decided to do a studio test run, went on Skype and was glad to find Lai on line. That was it, we called on skype, he rejected our calls, twenty minutes before going live we tried Lai 16 times, 16 times his Skype ID stated “call rejected” we decided we could just opt for a live phone interview, giving him the benefit of doubt that Skype might be playing up. We called Lai’s phone numbers it rang, and rang and rang and after 19 calls we got the message “phone switched off”. We went live apologised to the viewers and had the one hour session with Profesor Okey Ndibe, not only did it turn out to be one of the best episode so far but for some reason Professor Okey made sure Lai Mohammed was not missed. The National publicity sec of a party that intends to take over from the PDP neither called, e-mail, or send a text message to apologise or give reason for his absence. On our way home after the programme, Professor Ndibe mumbled a word, I couldn’t hear him well and he repeated the words again saying, “I hope APC does not intend to run Nigeria with the Lai Mohammed attitude” I replied Professor Ndibe by saying Maybe APC needs to learn some decency from the PDP. muktarl: you ibos have this propinsity of changing the torpic each time you are caught with the facts and figure. jonathan built almajiri school in the north and went to bayelsa and anambra to built world class scientific school. that is marginalizazion. all these marginalisazion will end in 2015 when we take over power. bllody ibosDid you expect him to build scientific schools for those to who Boko is haram or for those who can only score 2/200. Learn to crawl before walking. As for power returning to North in 2015, that's no big deal. You lot gave had it for 40 years and still poverty is the middle name of an average Northerner while illiteracy is their surname. |
muktarl: short up if you do not know what to say. the north and sw is being impoverished by giving all the appointments to anambra. You sound like a silly goat. How do you expect Anambra not to lead the pack when they have to score 139 to gain admission in the same exam in which you are expected to score 2. Wouldn't it make more sense for Anambra to have 139 appointments to Yobe state's 2? |
