I graduated with a 2.2 in microbiology and I wish to proceed to Canada to study Medicine and surgery in any of the good universities there. Please do I do? How do I proceed?
Can anyone suggest universities that offer medicine and surgery?
How long does the program take?

First of all, I am going to put a caveat that I'm not in the medical line but from the little I know, if you want to study medicine in Canada, you will typically do your undergrad in Biology or some other medical courses (not sure if microbiology is included). While completing your undergrad, you would need to do the MCAT, which is pretty intense and apply to medical school with your MCAT score and undergrad GPA. Based on what I learnt from my friends here who are now doctors, admission to medical school in Canada requires a very high GPA (looking at 3.5/4.0 or better). Most good medical schools have an entry average GPA of 3.8/4.0. Once you get in, you spend another 4 years in medical school plus residency.

Normally if someone applies for it from Nigeria it takes around 30 days to get here and cost around $23 but since you are in Canada you can order for it on his behalf and it will cost you around $5 but I don't know the time it will get to you (but obviously lesser than 30 days). You can order for it on cic's site (CAIPS FILE ). Concerning the bank the person used I can't remember but I know one or more persons o this forum will still remember the name

Yes someone did that recently and it worked. But it is very important your brother orders for his GCMS note so we can be sure what the vo was thinking before denying him

How do we order a GCMS note and how long does it take? We are hoping to re-apply for January resumption. BTW, I just spoke with RBC now and they said they can't open the account while he is outside the country but I saw it somewhere before. Which bank have people been using?

No problem bro, I am also not a guru but I try to give the little I know. Though am not going to Toronto but I know people going there will need some little info from gurus like u that have need there for sometime atleast to make them settle I'm quickly.
Concerning the matter at hand, work with the suggestions I gave earlier about transferring of the funds to your brother's account (be it the one he will open in canada or nigeria ). Hope his previous program(UG) is related to his intended program? a clear picture of his profile will help people here to give more and better advise, also try to order for his GCMS note as that will give detailed reasons why the vo decide not to approved his application

I just found out that we can open an RBC account for him here. We will do that and transfer his tuition fees into the account. I just hope that people have done that successfully in the past and the VO would not have a problem with that.

NB: You said you got info here about 7 years ago and u couldn't even come back to share ur experience with those of us(upcoming ) until u need info for ur younger brother, that's not fair at all. Imagine if everyone does that how will this GREAT thread continue? That's just my view sha.

@mcobex: Thanks for replying and no vex. I did share my experience at the time but I was certainly not a guru like some of you. More so, over time my information is bound to become irrelevant. For instance, back then there were no biometrics or VFS. Now that I have signed back in, I can answer some questions that some of you have about Canada in general. I'm in Ontario btw (Greater Toronto Area).

First of all I want to congratulate those who have received their visas and for those waiting, I pray it ends well. I actually used this forum when I got my study permit in 2010 (been in Canada since then) and it’s interesting that this forum is still very active with bright minds left right and centre.

Please I have a question regarding my biological brother that applied for study permit recently. His application was refused based on insufficient funds despite the fact that my dad is the sponsor, with over 50 million in its bank account including fixed deposit. We also included landed properties worth over 200 million naira.

Please correct me if I’m wrong but I have a feeling that the Visa office did not have time to process his visa as he submitted his paper application on June 28, 2017 and school resumes on Sept 1. The VO only selected insufficient funds as the reason and mentioned that we can re-apply after addressing the issue. No other reason was selected.

Now my question:
My brother is going to University of Western Ontario for masters in engineering. My dad opted to pay the fees upfront but the school says that they don’t collect school fees until the student gets a visa so we didn’t pay any fees. Is there anyone in the house that is going to UWO and got the same response from the school? I feel a strong way to prove that funds are available is to pay the full year tuition ($25,000), which my dad is ready to pay but we don’t know how to pay it since the school would not collect it.

Secondly, they only returned his passport and kept all his documents. Is that normal? When he is re-applying would he have to re-submit all documents again or just address insufficient issues and back it up with the relevant documents?

Sorry for the long write-up. Please the guidance of veterans in the house would be much appreciated.

really the reason why i asked my initial question is because i am wondering why they are taking long to make a decision on my application.i am going to be studying mba at schulich sch of bus in york university and my total fees is abt 89,000 CAD. is it possible to feel Nigerians cannot afford it even when one has provided sufficient source of funds. Would like to ask if there is any Nigerian that is currently or formerly a york student to pls give me some info.

i sent a mail to CDHC yesterday and i got a reply today that they have not reached a decision on my application and will contact me as soon as they do.
Really its a month now and i am a bit tensed.

@ dogice. i am so happy for you. i submitted mine about 4 days after yours and i pray that i hear good news soonest too.

Hey nairalander, your advice is highly needed on this matter pls, i have been denied study permit twice based on the following reasons: that im not a bonafide student and that i will not return after completion. bt at the second attempt , they now said that i cannot sponsor myself and my sponsor is not oblige to support me. my question is this: can i replace my sponsor or i should add it and put another with it. pls advise me quickly because im about to send another application.

@mevisbleek. pls did u submit 2 copies of your sponsor's bank statement or just 1 and a photocopy?

pls i have a 1 yr bank statement but i don't have a duplicate copy because i didnt know earlier and i have to submit my application on monday. i might submit it like that because i almost late for jan resumption (jan 4 2010) and if i try to process another copy i might not be able to meet up anymore. somebody shld advise me pls.

u know as far as i am concern those guys are very funny. i didn't see it on their website. i saw it on their noticeboard infront of their embassy at VI.

i went to CDHC and saw that their study permit visa fee is now 16k though u can go there to confirm

pls i still get some dark areas with this embassy paroles. i went to the canadian embassy and they referred me to their site for any info and i can tell u, there is nothing at all on the site. the requirements are just the basic things with a clause that any other documents that may be required by the local commission. that add document is wht i have an issue it. as far as i am concern those guys are not transparent at all cos i really dont know wht to add to my application. police cert was never mentioned on their website yet u need it to apply in nigeria.

@mevisbleek u wrote abt career plan, can u pls explain further and then do my sponsor need to have all the money in his acct. my school fees is 60k CAD and 29k CAD for upkeep. do they expect my sponsor to have all that in their current ac and wht abt if its in a fixed dep a/c cos pple around me advised that fixed dep is not good enough.

yeah, i have been admitted to schulich sch of bus at york uni for mba. its very exp too and i hope i can manage. i will be using my personal bank statement combined with that of my parents. pls i would like to know also if one can use fixed deposit certificate instead of bank statement cos my parents money are in fixed dep. do they need to liquidate to their current account? do i need a police report for my application?. pls ur response will be appreciated

i currently work in a bank in nigeria and just gotten admission for my mba in canada.
i went to their site and saw the documentation required but wht i dont know is whether for my academic certificates i can put the photocopy rather than the original. i shld be resuming in jan next year pls cld somebody hurry and reply me cos time is not on my side. thanks
