Oga fnk, do u want doc pullets or doc broilers for ur farm. Some year back I produced my doc broilers using layers, cockrel and local fowls (for hatching). They were big and strong. U can do it if your plan is for meat production ie broilers.
it depends on what u want.

hello farmers in d house. my 200 layers are now 20weeks old but they are not laying yet. they eat 25kg of feed for 2days. are they eating enough to help them to start laying . I'm curious pls.

what is d colour of ur birds? Black birds do not start laying on time.Also ur birds should eat 110g-120g per day.if by 22wks there is no egg pls switch to layers.

Hi House,

This thread has always been up to date.. So let me share my story as well. After reading from thread 1 to 85. I was fully charged. I got acres of land. Clear like 2acres and build pen house...

Then stock 3200 layers and 150broilers.. The first Night I lost like 70, due to the birds clustering together to generate heat because the heat was not enough... (Don't reply on bulb...I used 20 200W bulb) So i changed to charcoal and the mortality was reduced. Now the birds are going to 5weeks and they are all doing find in all i didnt loose upto 100.


Note this is a summarise write up. I just need to share too. I am not relying on what i have read... I employed an experienced farm manager, and attendants. All vaccination went well, gomboro, lasota, etc...

So guyz see pics below. I have left the farm like 3weeks now and by Saturday i will visit again...

i really dont understand what is happening to the beautiful city of Abuja. Abuja is one of the cleaniest city in Nogeria. everybody wants to be in Abuja. of recent the city of Abuja stinks. most places smell like lagos. infact the smell is so much that even when you are driving with your glasses up, the odour still comes inside.

i want to mention some of these Places, Area 1, Area 8, Area 2, Apo (shoprite),some parts of wuse 2. Go maitama(ministers hill) and asokoro (near ecowas) your will see water gushing out from the gutters.

the Abuja i saw when i came some years back is gradually turning to Lagos.

i wish i can upload how abuja stinks now so we can understand.

To guide against vaccine failure as a result of source, do not patronize only one vet store, the reason why vaccination is mostly done twice is to make up for unvaccinated birds, so it becomes important to patronize at least 2 quality vet shop such that if one of the vaccines fail the other can make up for the failed one.
To guide against vaccine failure as a result of administration, you need to know that the vaccine in itself are living organisms that have been conditioned to an inconvenience mode and as such bad administration is like you are inoculating the disease into the bird's system, having known this there's the need to prepare a good disinfectant incase of spillage,take about 5 mil of skimmed milk solution and release it all into the vaccine bottle and shake to ensure that the vaccine is well dissolved then take the needed quantity according to your stock.
Dose to be administered is the number of birds u v got, if u have 250 birds don't manage 200 doses it must be complete for effective performance.
Good knowledge of the environment is vital in a successfull vaccination,birds have a deep body tempetature of 40.5-42c , coupled with the kind of hot weather we have now, it becomes very important to ensure that the water to be used is chilled such that the temperature of the vaccine is still maintained until it reaches the bird system where it is expected to dissociate and starts combating pathogens that would want to cause that disease.
It should be mentioned as well that antibiotics should not be used a day before vaccination so as not to destroy the live organisms.

3 died among the 4 isolated ones this morning...others look ok for now after yesterday injection. The signs are good at the moment.
Will get them the prescribed drug this morning and watch till tomorrow and see again

sorry bro. I had similar experience last year. doctors at vet world adviced me to sell all the birds. I kept the faith and d birds are ok now.

remove all the litter. wash the pen very well. isolate anyone that is weak. then give them a strong antibiotic( I ve fogotten d name. something Cifloxacin. I will get the correct by tomorrow). give them the antiobiotics for 5 days. I assure u they will be fine.dont inject them as most of them are down already

@ Jamp and Oga farmtech, I need to vaccinate my bird against fowl tyhoid next week. What's the advice? Are you saying there should be no vaccination because of tje weather?

farmtech has answered you. you have to vaccinate them but make sure they are healthy before you do so. success

what is solution to this problem. people are actually loosing birds after gumboro vaccination.

Vaccine failure. just had a very nasty experience with Gumboro Vaccine failure. wiped out over 900 5wks pullet. pls folks. be mindful of vaccinating ur flocks in this hot season. never knew Gumboro is this deadly.

FarmTech. Let us be clear here. The birds were given Lasota orally about 3 times & subsequently injected with Komorov at 16 weeks, after which they have been orally vaccinated at least once a month. The issue now is that the efficacy of the oral (Lasota) vaccination has dropped since advent of the heat stress. The question here is; "what are the pros & cons of injecting birds who are already laying with Komorov in this hot weather given that oral vaccination isn't producing the desired result?"

what do you mean by lasota not working. are you experiencing drop in production?.

How old are they? Komorov injection is usually given at week 9 after lasota have been given several times. If u give komorov before lasota, many birds will likely fall sick. Most vaccinations should be done before laying starts.

i wanted you to clarify your first response. the question Eggcelent is for laying birds but the answer you gave is for birds under 16wks.

For complete protection against NCD, you must give lasota several times at first and then inject with komorov. It's a must. If you have had bad experience with injecting komorov before, it is due to some other reasons you don't know about. Injectable vaccines are effective only after the oral ones has been given.

my brother, the wheather is too hot. its really affecting my birds. the production dropped since the wheather became hot.

At 6pm the wheather is still very hot. i cant wait for us to pass this period. kai

my dear, i will advice u to use lasota oral. its not good to inject laying birds. i had a bad experience last year when my vet injected my birds. i lost many birds then. this happened around Apri/may last year. since then i have been giving them lasaota oral.

if the birds are already down with ND, injecting them will be a disaster. what i do monthly is to administer mild antibiotics 2-3 days before giving them lasota oral.

the advantage of giving injection is that it can last up to 3-6 months depending.


this is my opinion lets hear from the gurus
