danyegbule: Can someone help me out here? My birds have been doing well since I brought them at DOC and they are 6weeks today. But since last week I discovered that their stool was blood and I treated with amprosol for 5 days and started giving them multivite but today I noticed that their stool is whitish and some is little greenish with white and watery and they are week and not eating. Should I be worried? have you given them lasota and gumboro? if yes when. |

FrancisTony: It's teachers o, even though parents have some parts to play. When I was a kid, I always retort back when scolded by my parents unlike teachers. Mbanu! who born me...
Whenever I misbehave, my parents always threaten me that they would report me to my teacher and I shiver.
But like they say charity begins at home; I learnt most of the things from my home before teachers instilled some. Generally, I was/am naughty at home, quiet both in school & outside. U ve a point looking at current situation where children spend more time in school than at home. |

segun1976: @ Jamp milling your own feed may be a way out.
I have 3,260 birds and at 24wks are at about 12%. My pocket is crying!
Taken some advice from the house and praying things improve in the coming days. i will consider the option. thanks |
Agriculture › Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 8:05am On Jun 19, 2015 |
laposta: Milling your own feed is the way to go IMO...you may want to experiment by dividing your birds into two groups...monitor rate of lay for a while (say two weeks) and then swap one group to your milled feed while keeping the other on ready made feed...then compare rates of lay over two weeks again
The only source of worry over quality is toxins in the maize. You cal always add an antitoxin to the feed or use Superliv/Bioliv for every month.
Cheers thanks bro. you have a point. i will consider that |

my second batch started laying at 21wks 5days. they are 23wks today and we have 5% production.
my biggest challenge is how to reduce cost of feeding. i use topfeed, the cost is very high. i spend almost 2,500 for one bag of feed(plus transportation). should i change to a cheaper feed or mill my own feed(source/quality of ingredient is another wahala)
please house i need suggestion on how to tackle this inorder to maximize profit. |

Eggcelent: judithume. Your birds look OK for their age. Just be patient. FarmTech. Will you like to say something on endy247 question on Marek's? the birds look good at their age. the lice issue must have affected the birds badly. any disturbance to pullets will definitely show in their performance. Judithume, i know its painful but be calm they will lay with time. |

kevin96: Oya explain to us. what he means is that you turn the feed regularly to make it look fresh. for those using battery cage you run your hand through the feeder. the essence is to spur the birds to eat more. |

segun1976: Hello House, Happy to announce that our birds dropped first egg last week @ 19wk 4days.however since then we have gotten atotal of only 24eggs from the 3,263 birds. From all I have learnt from the seniorsin this forum I believe that there is nothing abnormal about this. We continue to keep a close watch and take adequate steps towards good pullet management practices. Your invaluable advice is always welcome. congrats bro. You are on the right track. Am yet to see egg from my batch(19wks). You can stimulate them to sexual maturity by adding light. I intend to add light when they are 20wks. cheers bro |

Under such a circumstance where one has to wait in line for 3 months for pullets, what are the alternatives? (I hope there are alternatives sir) ok bro. there are other hatcheries you can book from. all my birds are from CHI except the POL i took from animal care. i believe the 3months will give you time to prepare. no need to rush. like Akaytopsy said farming is a game of time. cheers |
