bros ur birds are doing well considering the harsh weather in abuja. Add vitamime C to their water. Very soon they wil improve as the raining season is around d corner.

Ridiculous! when cost of doc is average of 150, feeding for six week averagely 500, cost of vaccine and drugs and miscellaneous 50. Average weight at 6 wks 1.8kg. Now production cost is 700 (150+500+50), He wan buy at 666 (1.8 X 370). No be loss be that! It must be a joke. Abeg I no do.

bros I dont know about the time for fowl pox. It is good for the birds to attain d right body weight before swtiching. The truth is that those body weights u see on paper are not obtainable. They are body weights attained under normal conditions like temp, humidity, water quality, light intensity etc. Do we observe those conditions? The answer is NO.

Dis heat period is dealing with abuja farmers. The weather is hot . There is drop in production with drop in egg size too.Also many farms are experiencing high mortality. I can wait for this heat period to pass.

my dear be patient with them. they will soon start. increase the number of day light to 16hours. also change their feed to layers mash.
if u are close to any clinic, take some there for test to see if there is any vaccine failure. also the stress of transportation and caging can also contribute.

there are other factors that can affect sexual maturity of the birds: source of doc, management practice during brooding and rearing.

one major reason why i opened this thread is to see how we can store our farm produce.

in Nigeria we have bad storage culture. our farm produce do not last long. they are consumed immediately without the future in mind. the governement need to fund research projects that will help in achieveing this. even individuals and non govt organisation can take up this task without waiting for govt. we shall get there

By 16hrs I mean number of light daily both natural anf artificial. Let's assume ur day break at 6am. The natural light will last from 6am-6pm ie 12hrs, u need to provide additional light using generator/phcn from 6pm to 10pm.

The extra light helps to stimulate the birds sexual organs. Once you start giving them extra light u must sustain it else there will be significant drop if u stop.

also the birds are doing about 60% @ 26wks which is not bad. Give them time they will all pick up.

Oga fnk, I was an undergraduate when I did that. It was during one long strike by ASUU. I decided to experiment that. I had about 2-3 layers with one big Cockerell. I gave them growers feed.They mated, produced eggs and I took the eggs to local chicken for hatching. After 21 days I got big doc, bigger than the normal doc.

They grew very well without the normal vaccine we give thess days.

after the strike was called off. I went back to school leaving the birds in d hands of my dad and 2 boys staying with us.

I lost them due to the carelessness of the boys. Their feed finished and they gave them finisher meant for the big broilers we had. Then it was the pelleted feed(i beleive the feed chooked them).Before my dad returned the chicks were already dead. It pained me but I know the experiment was a success.

The standard here in Nigeria is 8weeks. the standard body weight by then shd be close to .67 kg. however its difficult to meet up with this

try n avoid water spillage. I will post what I used to prevent water spillage tomorow. also use saw dust not the wood shavings.since I adopted dis method my farm is dry n I sell my litter.
