@b2020
Sorry for the drop. You can only say the vaccine failed through lab test. Dont repeat the vaccine. From what you said the birds were down already before u gave them lasota. That is why its good to give mild antibiotics before lasota or check the state of the birds before giving lasota. For now place them on antibiotic for 3-5 days. Dont panic they will be fine and the production will increase.

Others please assist. Omoti, eggcelent, farmtech, davidsfarm, kelvin96

@Jamp, do you mean with top feed concentrate there is no need for wheat offal in your fomula?
Eggcelent:
jamp. The question I was about asking was what segun1976 asked. How do the the birds get their protein needs met with this formula? M/w, at #64/kg of maize, this formula gives a bag at #2200. That is still much ok.
the concentrate contains all other ingredients except corn. its even written on the bag. the cost is still high for me with the present cost of maize. you will still add cost of milling and transportation(if the feedmill is not close). early this year i milled @2050 excluding the other factors mentioned.
AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 7:39am On Jul 20, 2015
Eggcelent:
segun1976. You are right. At the given price, cost per kg of layers feed is #85.96. Selling off of spent sometimes impact the prices of eggs but, not significantly. Most farmers now almost always have replacement stock before selling off the old layers. jamp, how much is Top layers concentrate & what is the mixing ratio, pls?
3100 and d ratio is 16bags to 600kg of maize

segun1976. Akure - #3490. Owo - #3560.
Animal care concentrate cost more than top feed, any reason for that

FamilyNew Baby And One Year Hair Cut by jamp(op): 10:21pm On Jul 10, 2015
I noticed that in this part of the world(I don't know of obodo oyibo) we cut the new babys hair after one year.

why do we practice that?
is it a culture?
does it have any effect on the baby?
what will happen if the babys hair is cut before one year.

nairaland I need answer

We weigh them individually, and we weigh a whole bunch, and you can see from the ones you weighed that most of the other birds looks like the same size.
of course, some are about 900g some 800g and some 1.1kg etc.

In the past, at 4 weeks, most of them weighs 700g, some 600g
oga fnk, its not easy to weigh the birds individually. is not easy at all. kudos .I do random weighing. which one is better analog or digital scale

jamp...how and what did you do to keep your 2years old birds producing at 70%.pls share
my broda na God ooo. i don't know how we did it. we try to do our best in terms of maintaining good hygiene. we also minimize the use of antibiotics, in fact we hardly use it. we use good feed in raising them(top feed). I think putting them in cage helped us also. above all prayers worked too cos we pray for the birds and our customers.

sorry for the loss. If the lab result did not reveal anything then I suggest you check the ni.pples. sometimes birds die due to lack of water caused by faulty ni.pples. tell your staff to check the ni.pples at least once in 2days. I once had such issues so I told my staff to always note the cages so I investigate the cause of death.

you can also check for bulling as most birds do not allow some birds to eat in the cages.

check also the beak as suggested by eggcelent.

Started experiencing daily mortality with our laying birds since last week, lost about 52birds. Carried out lab test including sensitivity analyis. These test showed that all is well.
Our consultant & mentor said its normal to experience some mortlities as the flock come into lay.
Some farmers around suggests its due to excess fat (trying to get a scale to verify that). This batch was bought @ POL and now @ 27wks. Production was slow but recently being improving and now @ 55%.
I'm getting worried and needs to seek urgent help!
It's our first time and we are absentee farmer o!

omotititi. Have you ever gotten brown DOC pullets from Zartech Benin? If yes, what has been the experience in terms of liveability & production? I called Zartech Ibadan which is my usual source, but they seem fully booked for the next several weeks so I'm thinking of doing biz with Benin. Thanks. jamp. How far with the birds you were planning to buy? I believe they should be with you by now.
bros the birds are coming this month end. we are preparing for their arrival. how are ur birds doing? ur friend didn't show up again.

my first batch will be 2yrs by August and they are doing 60%(to God be the glory). they dropped from 70-60 after we changed to animal care. they are the ones feeding our 2nd & 3rd batches. we planned to push them to December before selling them.

Luke 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

We can see in the scripture above that Christ didnt give support to the slightest worship of his mother yet people wont hear.
My brother u are reading the bible wrongly. Jesus did not condem the respect accorded to mary rather he reaffirmed what elizabeth said in Lk 1: 45 through the Holy spirit.

The truth is Catholics will continue to say this prayer while Protestants will continue to protest against it till the second coming of Christ! As long as the Catholic Faith does not pose a security risk to non-Catholics just as Boko Haram ISIS, Al-Shaabab are, everyone should keep their peace and mind their paths and leave deciding who is truly serving God to God ALONE!
Oga u hit the nail gbam.

Our birds are 26wks tomorrow and doing 35%. Its our first time and we got them as 16wks POL. The batch is 3,264 but we have 3,240 left.
We refused to be discouraged and believe everything would be okay.
congrats bro. your birds are doing great. from 12% at 24wks to 35% at 26wks. well-done bro

AgricultureRe: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by jamp: 7:50am On Jun 29, 2015
@Theonlyson

your birds are not sick judging from the picture. what you are seeing around the neck is the crop. the problem(stunted growth as you said) might be the breed.
where did you get them from?

i have not really done broilers to confirm if the size is ok for their age.

fellow farmers please confirm if the size is ok for the age.

My poultry farmers, I finally saw an egg @exactlly 20weeks. My major Concern now is that about 6 of my birds are still having problems with their eyes. It's foamy in one eye only in all 6 of them. I ve used kenflox, I used enroflxacin n I'm using c the c now. The vet is saying that it's Infectious Corozal but the medication has refused to heal 6 of my birds. See pictures below
congrats. try the drugs prescribed by davidsfarm for coryza. I once had such issue, I discovered the cause in my own case was accumulation of ammonia in their litter.

note that birds coming into lay are susceptible to some disease as a lot is taking from them to lay egg. put in extra care this early stage

hello house, what is the best way to dry manure this raining season. there is money to be make from manure. i see thousands of naira wasting each time i give out the manure.

i believe their are machines to dry it and it will be good for fertilizer production.

Annabechick. Massive one. Congrats. From here, the width of the pen seems below minimum standard. What is the width here, pls? jamp, sir. How far with your cost-cutting measures vis-à-vis self milling? Have you considered buying grounded maize/wheat offal & do floor mixing with concentrates?
as adviced in this forum, milling is the way forward. we have some challenges as regards milling, we are making arrangements to start milling towards the end of the year when our next batch of 2000(coming this july) will start laying.

in the mean time we have switched to animal care for all our 3 batches. this move will save us about 1,900 daily.

what do you think

I have given them gumboro three times, week 1, week 3 and week 5 and lasota twice in week 2 and 6. Thanks so very much @jamp
since you have adminstered lasota and gumboro(hope ther is no vaccine failure) give them a strong anti cocci like you did before and follow up with multivitamin.
