HealthWhich Sleep Position Is Best For Baby? by jannydear(op):
Providing your baby with a safe and comfortable sleeping position and environment is vital for the health of your baby.

Recommended sleeping position

According to the recommendation from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), healthy infants should sleep on their backs for the first year of life for safety. Infants who sleep on their backs are at a lower risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), a condition that affects approximately 4,000 infants yearly in the United States.

READ ALSO: Sneezing During Pregnancy: Can it Affect the Baby?

The risk of SIDS is believed to be the highest within the first 6 months of life, so placing your infant on their back during this time is important for their safety.

Since these recommendations were made in 1992, there has been a noteworthy decrease in SIDS-related deaths. However, infant deaths caused by suffocation, entrapment and asphyxia have also been increasing.

On that note, it is best to speak with your pediatrician to see which sleep position is best for your baby based on factors such as medical history. At times, other sleeping positions may be suggested.

Getting a safe sleep environment for your baby is equally as important as the position that they sleep in. Certain steps can be taken to ensure you are providing your infant with the safest sleeping environment possible, as well as reducing the risk of SIDS.

Other safety measures

Recommended safety measures include:

Place your baby on their back for sleeping and encourage overseen tummy time when they are not sleeping.
Offer your infant a pacifier when sleeping.
Place your baby on a firm mattress without any sort of bumper pads.
Cover your infant’s mattress with a fitted sheet.
Avoid any loose bedding, pillows, stuffed animals, comforters, bean bags, waterbeds, sofas or soft mattresses.
Avoid using blankets to cover your baby.
Avoid covering the baby’s head, instead use sleep clothing such as sleeper sacks or a one-piece sleeper outfit.
Ensure your crib is safety-approved.
Avoid the use of wedges and positioners.
Parents should avoid sleeping on same bed with their babies. Babies should have their separate beds even if it has to be in same room with parents.
Maintain a comfortable room temperature, avoiding drafts and overheating.
Never place your baby too close to air conditioning or heating vents.
Avoid exposing your baby to secondhand smoke.
If your baby is not sleeping in a crib all of the time, use a bassinet or portable crib and apply the same safety measures.
Avoid the use of SIDS reduction monitors or devices. The risk of SIDS may also be reduced by immunizing your baby as recommended and by breastfeeding.
Some mothers may choose to bed-share with their baby to promote prolonged breastfeeding, but bed-sharing is not generally recommended.

HealthSee What Sweet Carbonated Drinks Do To The Body In Just One Hour by jannydear(op): 12:11pm On May 30, 2018
Apart from addictive as cocaine or heroin, fizzy drinks are also full of sugar that are harmful for the health. Have you ever wondered what sweetened carbonated drinks does to your body when you’re drinking them? The internet portal Truth Theory made a graph based on research. They showed what happens in the body one hour after we drink a soda.

READ ALSO: Six Disturbing Facts On Why You Should Avoid Consuming Junk Food

These are the results:

In the first 10 minuteswas found 10 teaspoons of sugar, which is more than enough dose for the entire day.
20 minutesThe blood sugar causes a rush of insulin and the liver is working extra hard to convert that sugar into fat
40 minutes Caffeine is completely absorbed, pupils dilated, your blood pressure rises, and the liver releases sugar into the bloodstream. The adenosine receptors in the brain are blocked, inhibiting sleepiness.
45 minutes Your body produces dopamine, which stimulates the pleasure centers in the brain, similar to heroin.
60 minutes Phosphoric acid binds with calcium, magnesium and zinc in the lower part of the intestine and stimulate the metabolism. That is even more complex due to the high quantities of sugar and artificial sweeteners which increase the excretion of calcium. Caffeine has diuretic properties and it makes you urinate more frequently so that you lose sodium, electrolytes and water from the body. There is a drop in the sugar level in your body and you become irritable and lethargic. Except the fact that you have lost fluids, you even lose the substances which are useful in strengthening your bones and teeth.

Scientific explanation:

Coca-Cola does not only contain a large amount of corn syrup, but also salt and caffeine. Also, they contain sodas which are full of acids and can cause damage to both tooth enamel, leading to cavities and artificial colors that can stain teeth. Only one tin can contains 39 grams of sugar.

Pharmacist Dr. Sameer Pate explains that the more we drink soda, the more damage is increased that can occur to the teeth. It takes only 20 seconds for the bacteria to start producing acid in the mouth and it can eat away the enamel to half an hour. If it only takes you 30 minutes to drink everything, then the harm to the teeth is pointedly extended. Sugarless chewing gum helps reduce acid in the mouth.

Regular consumption of large quantities of carbonated drinks tends to increase chances for heart disease, blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes.

These Coca-Cola facts may shock you, but they are good indicator of why it should be avoided – says nutritionist Ella Allred.

The caffeine in Coca-Cola destroys certain receptors in the brain that make us feel cautious and awake. After the effect of the brew, we become dehydrated, sleepy, and tired. Sugar and caffeine stimulate the same pleasure centers in the brain as cocaine and heroin and it makes us want to consume more of the drink.

HealthTop 5 Diet Tips For People With COPD by jannydear(op):
If you’ve recently been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), then you should have in mind that eating a healthy diet won’t cure COPD but it can help your body fight off infections, including chest infections that may lead to hospitalization. Eating healthfully can make you feel better, too.

Your doctor may likely advise you on need to improve your eating habits. Your doctor may even have referred you to a registered dietitian to create a personal diet plan. Just follow these healthy diet tips.

Top 5 Diet Tips

Eat a balanced diet
A healthy diet includes a variety of foods. Try to include these in your daily diet:

Low-fat protein foods, such as lean cuts of meat, poultry, and oily fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel.
Complex carbohydrates are also high in fiber, which helps improve the function of the digestive system. These includes whole-grain bread, bran, brown rice, lentils, quinoa, beans, and oats.
Some fresh fruits and vegetables which contains essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which will help to keep your body healthy.
foods containing high levels of potassium, including bananas, oranges, avocado, dark leafy greens, tomatoes, asparagus, beets and potatoes
Know What to Avoid
Certain foods contain too much fat, or are low in nutritional value which can lead to gas and bloating. Foods to avoid or reduce include:

Salt
Excessive salt intake leads to water retention, which may affect your ability to respire. Avoid adding salt to your cooking, instead make use of unsalted herbs and spices to flavor food. Check with your dietician or healthcare provider about low-sodium salt substitutes. They may contain ingredients that could adversely affect your health. In spite of what many people believe, most sodium consumption doesn’t come from the salt shaker, but rather what’s already in the food. Be sure to check the labels of the foods you buy and avoid any containing more than 300 milligrams of sodium per serving for snacks, and more than 600 milligrams for whole meals.

Some Fruits
Fruits like apples, stone fruits like apricots and peaches, and melons may cause bloating and gas in some, which may lead to breathing problems in people with COPD. However, if these foods aren’t a problem for you, you can include them in your diet.

Some Vegetables

There’s a long list of vegetables known to cause bloating and gas. What matters is how your body works. You can continue to enjoy vegetables like burssels, beans sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, leeks, corn, peas, onions, scallions and leeks, if they don’t cause a problem for you. Soybeans may also cause gas.

Dairy Products

For some people, dairy products such as milk and cheese cause phlegm to become thicker. However, if dairy products don’t affect your phlegm, then you can continue to consume them moderately.

Chocolate

Chocolate contains caffeine, which may affect with your medication. Check with your doctor to find out if you should avoid or limit your intake.

Fried Foods

Foods that are fried or greasy can cause gas and indigestion. Heavily spiced foods can also cause discomfort and may affect your breathing. These foods should be avoided.

Watch What You Drink
People with COPD should drink lots of water throughout the day. Around six to eight (8-ounce) glasses of noncaffeinated beverages are recommended per day. Adequate hydration keeps mucus thin and makes it easier to cough up.

Avoid drinking caffeine because it could interfere with your medication. Caffeinated drinks include coffee, tea, sodas, and energy drinks.

Ask your doctor about alcohol. You may be advised to avoid or limit alcoholic beverages, as they can interact with medications.

Watch Your Weight
People with chronic bronchitis have an affinity to be obese, while those with emphysema have an inclination to be underweight. This makes diet and nutrition assessment an important part of COPD treatment.

Underweight

Some symptoms of COPD may include lack of appetite, feeling unwell, or depression. These can cause you to become underweight. If you’re underweight, you may feel weak and tired or be more susceptible to getting infections. COPD requires you to use more energy when breathing, so you may need up to 10 times more calories daily than a person without the condition.

If you’re underweight, you need to include healthy, high-calorie snacks in your diet. Items to add to your grocery list include:

eggs
milk
avocado
oats, quinoa, and beans
cheese
nuts and nut butters
granola

Overweight

When you’re overweight, your heart and lungs have to work harder, making breathing more difficult. Too much body weight may also increase the demand for oxygen. Your doctor or dietitian can advise you on how to achieve a healthier body weight by following a healthy eating plan.

Be Prepared
COPD can be a challenging condition to live with, so it’s important to make food preparation a straightforward and stress-free process. Make mealtime easier, encourage your appetite if you’re underweight, and stick to a healthy eating program by following these general guidelines:

Try eating five to six small meals per day, rather than three large ones. Eating smaller meals means may help you avoid filling up your stomach too much and give your lungs enough room to expand, making breathing easier.
Don’t skip breakfast, morning meals will boost your energy levels for the whole day.
Choose foods that are quick and easy to prepare to avoid wasting your energy. Sit down when preparing meals so that you aren’t too tired to eat. You may also order a meal home delivery service.
Sit up comfortably in a high-backed chair when eating to avoid putting too much pressure on your lungs.
When making a meal, make a bigger portion so that you can freeze some for later and have nutritious meals available when you feel too tired to cook.

HealthEbola In DR Congo: Patients Taken To Church by jannydear(op): 8:49am On May 24, 2018
Three Ebola patients left a medical centre in the Democratic Republic of Congo after their families demanded to take them to church, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Two of the patients later died, while the third returned to the centre in the city of Mbandaka, a densely populated city of about one million.

This is the ninth outbreak of Ebola in DR Congo. Ebola has no known cure yet.

This presents a new challenge for health workers fighting to contain the spread of the extremely contagious disease, says the BBC’s Anne Soy in DR Congo.

Health officials are apprehensive that it could quickly spread in Mbandaka. Isolating those with Ebola is the main way to keep the disease under control.

The WHO says 58 cases of Ebola have been recorded since the outbreak was declared on 8 May. There have been 27 deaths so far, with three deaths confirmed as Ebola.

How did the patients leave?

The patients’ relatives came to the centre, operated by medical aid agency Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), and demanded to take them for prayers, WHO officer Eugéne Kabambi told the BBC.

They were reportedly taken away on motorbikes and a search was ordered by the police. One patient was found dead at home and his body was returned to the hospital for a safe burial. The other was sent back to hospital on 22 May and died that evening.

Efforts were made by staff to convince the patients not to leave and continue treatment.

In a statement, MSF said; “Forced hospitalization is not the solution to this epidemic. The adherence of the patient is paramount.”

The families of the three patients are now being monitored and some of them have been vaccinated against the disease.

Is the situation under control?

The disease’s spread from rural areas to Mbandaka, located on the Congo River, has sparked fears of it spreading downstream to the urban area capital, Kinshasa, and to neighbouring countries.

The WHO says the outbreak has the potential to expand.

“We are on the epidemiological knife-edge,” Peter Salama, head of emergency responses at the WHO, said at a special meeting to discuss the crisis in Geneva.

“The next few weeks will really tell if this outbreak is going to expand to urban areas or if we are going to be able to keep it under control,” he added.

Health workers began an immunisation campaign to stop the spread of the Ebola virus on 21 May.

Limited trials of the experimental vaccine was rolled out during the epidemic in West Africa in 2014-16, which killed more than 11,300 people.

HealthBest Foods For Menopause by jannydear(op): 1:55pm On May 23, 2018
Menopause and aging is associated with several risks factors and symptoms that may be unavoidable, however there are good nutrition that can help prevent or ease certain conditions that may develop during and after menopause.

Foods to eat during menopause
During menopause, you have to consume a variety of foods to get all the nutrients you need. Women’s diets are often low in calcium and iron, so you have to follow these guidelines:

Get enough calcium: Eat and drink two to four servings of dairy products and calcium-rich foods daily. Foods that contain calcium includes sardines, canned salmon, calcium found in dairy products, fish with bones such as sardines and canned salmon, broccoli, and legumes. Target 1,200 milligrams daily.

Pump up your iron: Eat at least three servings of iron-rich foods daily. Iron is found in lean red meat, poultry, fish, eggs, leafy green vegetables, nuts, and enriched grain products. The recommended dietary allowance for iron in older women is 8 milligrams a day.

Get enough fiber: Ensure to eat foods high in fiber, such as wcereals, whole-grain breads, pasta, rice, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Most adult women should get about 21 grams of fiber a day.

Drink plenty of water: Drink eight glasses of water every day. That fulfills the daily requirement for most healthy adults.

Maintain a healthy weight: If you’re obese or overweight reduce portion sizes of food you consume and start eating fewer foods high in fat. Avoid skipping meals in a bid to lose weight. A registered dietitian or your doctor can help you figure out your ideal body weight.

Reduce intake of high-fat foods: Reduce saturated fat to less than 7% of your total daily calories. Saturated fat raises cholesterol and increases your risk for heart disease. It’s found in fatty meats, whole milk, ice cream, and cheese. Limit intake of cholesterol to 300 milligrams or less daily. Watch out for trans-fats, found in vegetable oils, many baked goods, and some margarine. Trans fat also raises cholesterol and increases your risk for heart disease.

Use sugar and salt in moderation: Too much sodium in the diet is linked to high blood pressure. Avoid intake of salty, smoked, and charbroiled foods because these foods have high levels of nitrates, which have been linked to cancer.

Limit intake of alcohol
Foods to Help Menopause Symptoms

Plant-based foods that have isoflavones (plant estrogens) work in the body like a weak form of estrogen. For this reason, soy may help ease menopause symptoms, although research results are uncertain. Isoflavones can be found in foods such as tofu and soy milk.

Foods to Avoid During Menopause

If you’re having hot flashes during menopause, you may find it helps to avoid certain foods that can trigger symptoms. Avoid spicy foods and drinks like alcohol and caffeine.

Romance20 Things Most Single Men Want Women To Know by jannydear(op):
It’s true that both men and women have their expectations on what they are looking for in their partner. Through trial and error process, the single lifestyle continues to flourish while both sexes continue to make mistakes, with some learning from those errors. Some men aren’t just looking for a life partner, but for temporary bed partner for a couple of flings.

READ ALSO: For The Ladies: 10 Types Of Creepy Guys You Should Avoid

There are good men out there, but you can’t get a completely perfect and flawless guy. Perfection is overestimated, if one is perfect, there is no room for improvement. Ladies should stop looking for Mr. Perfect; he doesn’t exist.

Linda Bilyeu, a relationship expert/counsellor, have carried out a research and come up with some things men wish women would know.

Don’t be demanding. Men don’t like to take orders.

Men don’t want to hear about your previous relationships. They will feel like you are comparing them to your ex.

Most men don’t really like women they have sexual contact with on the very first date. They tend to prefer women who maintain to wait until after marriage for sex.

Men like the excitement of the chase. Guys don’t like women that are easy to catch.

We don’t like when you are always available, that takes away from the thrill.

Men understand women might have male friends which is why you should respect their female friends.

Men share their advice

Don’t expect men to pay for everything. They like to be treated to a drink or meal too.

Men don't like being stalked.

Men prefer you use current photos for online dating and not fake profiles for stalking.

Most men don’t like pillow talk. They don’t want to cuddle and chat after sex. They just want to go to sleep.

Do not expect respond to every text you send him. Men don’t need constant communication.

Men know that some women also enjoy the thrill of the chase and the bad boy factor but not all men are bad. Some men actually want to treat you right. You just have to figure out what you want and find the right guy.

Guys may start avoiding you when they are no longer interested. Do not take it personally. They would rather ghost you than have to explain why they no longer want contact. Women require a lengthy and thorough conversation that could go on for hours. Men don’t have time for that because they most likely have already moved on. Let them go and in the long run, it will be best for you.

Men don't like games.

Men want women to be sincere. The real deal. Not fake. Men like independent women who aren’t too demanding.

Emotionally intelligent women are esteemed. They are able to express themselves without the games that some play. We do not like emotional games. Men want to be able to have a conversation with you and not think you are envisaging castrating them.

Stop listening to your single female friends as to why your relationships aren’t working; there is a reason most of those women are single. Start listening to your male friends, they just might have better advice. Better yet having open communication with the guy that you are interested in seems best.

Men don’t like when you use excessive makeup. Applying makeup to accentuate your beauty in a natural way is acceptable, but it’s unacceptable if you look totally different once you wash your face.

Men are not looking for high maintenance women.

Respect each other’s individuality. We might have different interests and that is fine. Company is nice, but men might not want to spend all my free time with you. There is no need to argue or get upset if we decide to hang out with the boys all weekend. You hang out with the girls.
Men like compliments too. Just like you appreciate compliments, men do too. Tell them they look nice or smell good. They just like to feel appreciated too.

Men don’t want to hear “I dunno” when they ask you a direct question. We would prefer to hear “Yes” or “No.”

Men want you to be yourself. They want you to be comfortable being with them. So when you do go out to eat, don’t order a salad, order a steak. We want to watch you enjoy your meal and we don’t want you picking at our food.

HealthUnderstanding Bronchitis by jannydear(op):
What is Bronchitis?
Bronchitis, also referred to as chest cold, is the inflammation in the lungs, commonly referred to as chest cold. Bronchitis can occur as a viral illness like the common cold, or a more severe condition.

Bronchitis can also be caused by exposure to chemical irritants, smoke, or bacteria. Typical symptoms associated with bronchitis include:

cough
phlegm
feeling tired
However, these are also symptoms of other illnesses, so getting the right diagnosis is vital.

READ ALSO: What Causes a Chronic Cough?
http://healthdiary365.com/what-causes-a-chronic-cough/

How Bronchitis Affects Your Lungs
The bronchial tubes that carry air deep into your lungs can get irritated, causing the inner lining to swell and grow thicker. When this happens, it makes the breathing passages to become narrow. These irritated membranes also discharge extra mucus, which coats and blocks the small airways. Coughing spells is being triggered in an effort for the body to clear out these secretions.

Symptoms of Bronchitis
Symptoms of bronchitis includes:

Productive cough that persists for several days to weeks. Wheezing sounds when breathing
Fatigue
Shortness of breath
Tightness or dull pain in the chest
Unusual fever

Acute Bronchitis

Acute bronchitis often develops about three to four days after a cold or the flu. It may start with a dry cough, then after a few days the coughing spells may bring up mucus. Most people get over an acute attack of bronchitis in two to three weeks, although the cough can sometimes linger on for four weeks or more. However, if you are healthy, your lungs will return to normal after you’ve recovered from the initial infection.

Chronic Bronchitis
Chronic bronchitis is a severe condition that occurs when you have a cough with phlegm on most days for at least three months in a year. Chronic bronchitis causes your lungs to become a breeding ground for bacterial infections and may require ongoing medical treatment. It’s one form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD – a lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe properly). The “smoker’s cough” is sometimes a sign of bronchitis and COPD.

Illnesses that Mimic Bronchitis
The symptoms of bronchitis are often the same as other conditions, such as pneumonia, asthma, common cold, allergies, influenza, sinusitis, and even gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) and lung cancer. Endeavor to contact your doctor to get an accurate diagnosis.

Causes of Acute Bronchitis
Acute bronchitis is more common in winter or cold season, and nine out of 10 cases are caused by a virus. Irritants like smog, dust, chemicals in household cleaners, tobacco smoke, and fumes can trigger symptoms.

Causes of Chronic Bronchitis
Smoking is the most common cause of chronic bronchitis. The less common cause of this condition is exposure to dust and toxic gases at places of work. Air pollution can aggravate symptoms for people with chronic bronchitis.

Smokers and Bronchitis
It would be difficult for a smoker who gets acute bronchitis to recover properly because even one puff on a cigarette can cause temporary damage to the cilia (tiny hair-like structures) in the airways that brush out irritants, debris, and excess mucus. Prolonged smoking causes irreversible damage and increases the odds of chronic bronchitis. This can lead to increased risk of lung infection and irreversible damage to the lung. It is best to quit smoking, contact your doctor on ways to help you quit.

READ ALSO: 8 Things You Do Every Day That Are Harmful to Your Health

How is Acute Bronchitis Diagnosed?
To diagnose acute bronchitis, your doctor will examine how your symptoms have developed over time and through a physical inspection. Your doctor will use a stethoscope to listen for any abnormal sounds produced within your lungs when you inhale and exhale.

How is Chronic Bronchitis Diagnosed?
To diagnose chronic bronchitis, your doctor will ask you questions about your medical history, conduct a physical exam, and pulmonary function test. Pulmonary function tests like spirometry measure how well the lungs are functioning. A chest X-ray may also be conducted.

Treatment for Acute Bronchitis
To treat acute bronchitis, you will be advised on making some lifestyle changes such as getting enough rest, drinking lots of fluids, avoiding smoke and fumes. A non-prescription pain reliever may help with body aches. An expectorant may be prescribed to help loosen mucus so it can be more easily coughed up or an inhaled bronchodilator medicine to open your airways.

Treatment for Chronic Bronchitis
You must quit smoking if you have chronic bronchitis related to smoking. With your doctor’s recommendation, you can get a pneumococcal vaccine and an annual flu vaccine. Treatment may include bronchodilators and steroids (inhaled or by mouth).

Treatment for Chronic Bronchitis and COPD
Chronic bronchitis and emphysema are the two main forms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Doctors may prescribe bronchodilators, which are drugs that help open constricted airways. Oxygen therapy helps improve the breathing pattern of some people and a pulmonary rehab program can enhance your quality of life. Quit all forms of smoking to stop further deterioration of your lung.

When to Call the Doctor
Consult your doctor if you:

Have a cough lasting more than four weeks
Feel breathless
Cough up blood
Have a fever greater than 101 F (38 C)

FoodFoods That May Delay Menopause by jannydear(op):
Consuming a diet rich in legumes and fish may help delay the natural process of menopause, according to researchers at Leeds University in the United Kingdom. The research team added that eating foods rich in carbohydrates may fast-track menopause.

The age at which a person experiences their menopause can influence their health in many ways. Premature menopause, described as hitting menopause before 40, can come with several health complications, including infertility.

Some of the consequences of premature or early menopause includes:

Higher risk of heart disease
Loss of bone density
Loss of sexual desire

Conversely, early menopause might have some health benefits. A recent study suggested that a later menopause might help prevent cognitive decline in older women.

Yashvee Dunneram, a researcher at the School of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, and colleagues carried out a study to establish the relationship between diet and onset of menopause.

Their findings were published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health.

Dunneram and the team of researchers examined the data available from the UK Women’s Cohort Study — a survey of over 35,000 British-based women aged between 35 and 69.

The scientists also included information on potential confounding factors such as weight and reproductive history, physical activity levels, and hormone replacement therapy use.

Using the data drawn from food frequency questionnaires, the researchers were able to estimate the daily consumption of 217 food items that the participants ate.

A total of 914 of all the women experienced menopause naturally between the ages of 40 and 65.

How carbs, fish, legumes affect menopause

The age at which the women got their menopause on average was 51, and the study discovered that certain food items were linked with the menopause onset.

Each portion of carbohydrates, such as pasta and rice, consumed daily related with experiencing menopause 1.5 years earlier. Comparing this, for each daily portion of fish and fresh legumes, such as peas and beans, the delay in onset of menopause was over 3 years. Also, a daily consumption of vitamin B-6 and zinc was also connected with later menopause.

When comparing vegetarians with meat eaters, the team discovered that eating meat was linked with a 1-year delay in menopause onset. Among women who had not had any children, a higher consumption of grapes and poultry was connected with later menopause.

According to Dunneram and her colleagues:

“Our discoveries confirm that diet may be linked with the age at natural menopause. This may be significant at a public health level since age at natural menopause may have implications on future health results.”

You don’t have to tow the sex appeal look by donning a body-hugging dress, manicured nails and chic hairdo. You can equally nail a simple but sexy look in Jeans and a t-shirt with wind-blown hair. Just make sure you dress to suit the occasion. Do your best to look as good as you can, no matter where you are going. You never can tell when you might suddenly bump into your dream man.

Don’t Just Talk, Listen Too

It is important to listen when you want to get a man to fall for you. Most men get bored when you just do all the talking. Most ladies chatter endlessly instead of listening, when they are around a potential male partner. This can be a big turn-off for men. Even a man who is generally not talkative will definitely have something to say. Everyone likes to be heard, so when you keep talking all the time without giving him the chance to express himself, he’s likely to be disappointed.

Show Confidence

Most men love women who exudes air of confidence. Some women love playing the victim, or the helpless female, just to attract a man’s attention. However, even the apparently ‘damsel in distress’ set their trap with poise and accuracy. Liking yourself makes it easy to show confidence and get him to like you too.

Smile and Laugh

When trying to get a man to fall in love with you, it is essential to smile and occasionally laugh. Putting up a hostile or a standoffish expression can scare him away. Be friendly and social. Guys generally like ladies who have a sense of humor, who can make them feel good. Though you may end up looking like a stand-up comedian if you overdo it. It is great to have a partner who is enjoyable and outgoing.

Give, don't only take

To increase your likelihoods of him falling in love with you, try to give, and not just take. A man can easily discern between a girl who wants something from him, and one who cares for him. A girl may like a man just for the material stuffs she hopes to get out of him, not necessarily because she likes him. So endeavor to differentiate yourself from the archetypal gold digger and let him see you are interested in him for his love and not his money.

Have good morals

A girl with good moral conduct can get a man to like her in no time. Nobody wants to get involved with someone who can’t be trusted. Men like women who are well-ordered. Behave maturely towards him and be respectful of him, just as you expect him to be respectful towards you.

Don’t be too possessive before he commits his love to you

Most women make the mistake of being overly possessive of a man before he even confesses his love to them. She may try to protect him from other women so that she remains the only woman around him. This is wrong, it won’t work. Allow him to decide on what is best for him.

Don’t Lose Hope

When wanting a man to fall in love with you, it’s imperative to be hopeful and stay positive. Hope for the best, but don’t lose sight of reality.

Allow him also put in some effort

Don’t chase after a man for months while he goes about his normal activities without a care in the world, it would make you seem desperate. Being available to him always is not really a good thing because he may get bored. Instead, allow him to make advances towards you. Many men enjoy the thrill of the chase. You can allow his eyes to meet yours, then casually look away and allow him work a little to win you over. Let him notice how much he misses you when you are not around. As soon as he suspects he’s falling in love with you, he will come for you.

RomanceThings That Makes A Man Attractive by jannydear(op):
What Makes a Man Attractive?

A study published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships found that men who display positive qualities like helpfulness, politeness and kindness, were considered better-looking by women. Also, a 2004 study in Evolution and Human Behavior discovered that students rated each other as more attractive at the end of a semester, after they’d gotten to know each other, than they did on the first day of class.

Be her bad boy

Some women are turned on by fun, volatility, and wild Imagination. Researchers at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois found that men who are exploitative, callous, deceitful, self-obsessed, and thrill-seeking regularly report having more partners than the nice, modest guys.

The reason why some women prefer the bad boy types is because they long for raw pleasure. You don’t necessarily have to be a creep to provide that. You can simply take her on an expedition she’s never experienced, like taking her to an underground club or to the roof of your skyscraper office building.

Stop being the “safe” guy

Most girls don’t really fancy men who like playing safe. Most single women aren’t waiting for a nice guy, (though they feel they are), but they’re waiting for sparks to fly. Next time, give in to an urge to do something unexpected, and when you kiss, do it like you don’t give a damn whether she thinks you’re nice. Most women love guys who are adventurous.

Wear an irresistible fragrance

Women adulate sweet smell, such that they still bask in your fragrance long after you’ve gone. The Olfactory Research Fund conducted a study and found that women who smelled male cologne while fantasizing about sex felt more aroused than those who sniffed a neutral fragrance.

You don’t have to get the most expensive perfume or body spray, even plain old Ivory soap is better that just being neutral. Researchers at the University of Bern in Switzerland discovered that a little eau de male underarm can actually arouse women. But without a smell, a man is practically invisible to the opposite sex.

Take a look in your shower, medicine cabinet, and laundry room: if you’re using mostly unscented deodorant, soap, and detergent, and you avoid cologne, you too may be an invisible man. Once you start using scented products that stimulates the olfactory receptor and boost arousal like lavender, jasmine, myrrh, sandalwood, and ylang ylang, you become very visible.

Classic look

A confident and cool man will look good no matter what he wears. However, it would be to your advantage if you wear something classic. You can opt for a black, long-sleeve, button-down shirt with sleeves rolled up and tucked into fitted, faded Levi. This would give you a simple yet sexy look.

Say the Words She Wants to Hear

Women just love pet names. Call her something like “dolly, cupcake, baby, or hotsy” and she’ll feel her insides go all warm with these charming pet names. Pet names create intimacy between couples. According to studies, couples who have silly names for each other and share a secret language enjoy more loving relationships.

Keep Fit

An average woman would find it hard to resist a man with ripped abs, it’s definitely hot. However, large, doughy mass jiggling in all directions is definitely not hot. Excess flab will absolutely quench a woman’s desire.

Other qualities women find attractive in men include:

Women like men who are humorous
A man of status
When you smile and hold eye contact with a woman, it turns her on
Women consider men who keep your voice low and speak slowly, attractive
Ladies love men who have confidence
Ladies like playful and exciting men

RomanceFor The Ladies: 7 Questions You Should Never Ask Your Boyfriend by jannydear(op):
It’s important for couples to confide in each other, talk about their fears and ambitions and trust each other. However, there are some particular obscene questions that women must avoid asking their men. This is because the answers won’t have any positive effect on you or him. Asking him those awkward questions only end up making both of you uncomfortable, and most of the time they make you look insecure or not confident.

Here are some questions you should never ask your boyfriend.

How many women have you slept with?

Don’t allow your curiosity get a hold of you by pushing you to ask your boyfriend about his past relationships and sexual escapades. Whether he answers you truthfully or not, it’s not going to help you in any way. It’s also not going to be a yardstick for the success of your relationship.

If he’s been with a lot of women, chances are you’re going to feel insecure. If he answers that he hasn’t been with very many women at all, you might find yourself wondering if he doesn’t end his relationships too fast. Also, be prepared to answer that same question, because he will naturally want to know the answer from your side too, and you might not want to reveal something so personal.

Do I do this better than your ex?

Asking your boyfriend if you’re better than his ex in any way – whether in your looks, cooking skills or in bed is definitely a bad idea. He would feel uncomfortable and uncertain around you and will resort to being dishonest if you continually drag up a past relationship. Would you prefer he flatters you by saying you cook better or would you be okay to know the bitter truth is his ex is way better off in bed than you?

It just shows you lack self-confidence if you always compare yourself to his ex-girlfriend. The fact is, he’s with you, and isn’t thinking about your ex, so why dig up memories of his past relationship that won’t help both of you in any way?

Is she prettier than me?

So what if she’s prettier than you? Would you leave the relationship because of that? It’s normal to be jealous, but it becomes abnormal when it gets uncontrollable. We should endeavor to bring the issue of jealousy under subjection of our control. Asking questions that compare you to his ex means high level of insecurity on your part. Also, if he were to answer you, you may still not be satisfied. If he was to answer: “Yes, she’s prettier” it will only end up making you angry and feeling unattractive. If the answer is “no, you’re prettier”, you may just feel like he’s lying, or saying what he’s obliged to say. Save yourself, and him, a headache by avoiding the question and cheering yourself that if he liked her more, he’d probably be with her, and not you.

Who just texted or called you?

Are you the kind of girl that dashes to grasp your boyfriend’s phone immediately it rings or beeps? This is very unhealthy in any relationship. Asking him who called or sent him a text can mean you don’t feel secured. Think of it as winning a point when you don’t ask. Don’t embarrass yourself because chances are it could be an unknown number, a relative, a friend, or even the telephone company.

Do you watch p0*rn?

If a man has access to a computer, chances are he will have watched X-rated movies at some time or another. Watching it doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s with you. If you have a feeling he does watch it, don’t stress yourself about it. Asking him if he watches it will either lead to awkwardness or he might be forced to lie to you.

Do you think I’m getting fat?

This is another awkward question to ask your boyfriend. If you’re uncomfortable with how you look, then you can change it, if possible. You don’t need him to tell you so. Asking if you’re fat may trigger an automatic response. He might lie so as not to make you feel bad. He may also say “yes, you could do with losing a few pounds.” The latter will probably make you feel very bad about your self-confidence and wish you’d never asked.

What would you do if I got pregnant?

The answer to this question depends on the status of the relationship itself. If you’ve been married for years and you’re looking to raise a family, then this question is appropriate. However if you’re teenagers who’ve been seeing each other for a month or so, stay away from this question completely. It’ll completely throw him off guard. This question isn’t worth asking. You don’t need to worry about pregnancy unless you are actually pregnant; if not, this question isn’t worth asking.

HealthHow To Get Rid Of Eczema Naturally by jannydear(op):
Eczema is the inflammation of skin causing itching, redness, and minute papules. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema. Atopic means those diseases that are inherited and can develop other allergic conditions, such as bronchitis, asthma and hay fever.

Eczema can affect any part of the body, causing the skin to appear very dry and reddish. This skin condition begins at the time of birth and continues till childhood. In some people it continues till adulthood. This disease is inherited by child if a parent has had it or other atopic disease. Environmental factors such as hot weather, high and low humidity causes eczema.

Home Remedies to Get Rid of Eczema Naturally

Use oatmeal
The inflammation of the skin can be lowered using oatmeal because of its anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to remove dirt from the skin and increases the skin moisture. It also helps in removing scars from eczema. Take 50 grams of oatmeal crush it to fine powder and mix it with the warm bath water in your tub. Bath for a week or more to get better results.

Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is not really in oil form, but a liquid wax. It is rich in moisture and penetrates the skin from inside, and its chemical structure is similar of all the oils to that of our skin’s natural oil. It is made up of acids that are long chain fatty acids. Pour a few drops on your hand and apply to affected area. Gently massage it into your skin until it disappears. You can apply 2-3 times daily.

Glycerin
The main component of soap and other moisturizer is glycerin. There are two types of glycerin – regular and vegetable glycerin. Regular is made from animal fats. Vegetable glycerin comes from coconut and palm oil and it is 99% pure. This glycerine helps in providing moisture to dry skin during Eczema. It fills the gap in dry and dehydrated skin. Take a spray bottle, add vegetable glycerine and filter water mixture into it. Use 2-2 ratio of glycerin and water, and give it a shake. Spray on the affected area of your body. You can use this mixture regularly after 3 to 4 hours during the day.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil contains fats and moisture which heals eczema rapidly by going deep into the skin and filling gaps between skin. Coconut oil is a good example of hydrating agent. It has properties to fight bacteria and heal the inflammation. Using a cotton swab or your fingertips, take a few drops of coconut oil and apply it on the affected area before going to sleep. Rinse affected area softly in the morning. Repeat the process regularly until results become visible.

Fish Oil
Fish oil is rich in N-6 and N-3 fatty acids, which are important for smooth and healthy skin. The skin loses these fatty acids in eczema attack, which are provided back by fish oil. Taking daily dose will help to recover faster. Fish oil can be taken in the form of capsules or in liquid form.

Epsom Salt Bath
Epsom salt also called magnesium sulfate is easily absorbed by the skin to give relief to pain and redness of skin. It is reasonably low in cost. Fill your bath tub with warm water, add 1-2 cups of Epsom salt and soak in this for 15-30 minutes. Drink a good amount of water after Epsom Salt bath. Improvement should be visible in few days.

Turmeric Paste
Turmeric is widely used for different diseases including skin problems. It contains Curcumin that has anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties. It works by dehydrating the pores. Take a bowl, add 2 tablespoon of turmeric powder and mix it with water to form a paste. Apply this paste to the affected parts. Leave it for one hour or the whole night. Rinse off with water next morning.

Baking Soda
Baking soda helps to reduce inflammation and itching because of its anti-inflammatory properties. Add half cup of baking soda in a bathtub filled with warm water. Soak your body in this water for 10 to 20 minutes. Also, you can add two spoons of baking soda in a bowl. Pour enough water to make a thick paste. Apply the paste on the Eczema area. Wait for a few minutes before cleaning it off with warm water.

Potters Clay Paste
Clay helps in removing the dead cells and dirt on the skin. This dirt causes a blockage in the pores, causing Eczema to appear on skin. Clay absorbs the extra oil of oil glands. It also helps to stop the over-drying of your skin and keep the skin moisturized. Take a bowl, add two teaspoons each of potters clay and rose water. Apply the paste on your affected area where Eczema is present. Wash it after it dries up. Repeat the process thrice daily.

Chamomile
Chamomile lowers the swelling, itchiness, and cures spots that have been scratched. Wrap the chamomile in muslin cloth or towel. Fill the bathtub half and then tie the towel in it so the bath water runs directly over it. Fill the tub full or you can drop the towel directly in the tub. Soak your body for fifteen minutes and then softly pat yourself dry with a cloth. Apply your regular moisturizer afterwards. You can try combining oatmeal and chamomile for best results.

HealthCan Deodorant And Antiperspirant Cause Breast Cancer? by jannydear(op):
Can antiperspirants or deodorants cause breast cancer?

Antiperspirant can be described as a roll-on that reduces underarm sweat while deodorant destroys or mask unpleasant odors. Some unconfirmed reports claim using antiperspirants and deodorants can lead to breast cancer. According to the reporsts, these products contain harmful ingredients which can gain access to the body through skin or through scratches caused by shaving. Some researchers have also projected that certain ingredients in antiperspirants or deodorants may be related to breast cancer because they are applied frequently to an area next to the breast.

On the contrary, researchers at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a part of the National Institutes of Health, haven’t found any substantial evidence relating the use of underarm antiperspirants or deodorants and the development of breast cancer.

READ ALSO: Breast Cancer: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Prevention, and Treatment
http://healthdiary365.com/breast-cancer-symptoms-causes-diagnosis-prevention-and-treatment/

Also, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), also does not have any evidence or research data that proves ingredients in underarm antiperspirants or deodorants can cause breast cancer.

What do scientists know about the ingredients in antiperspirants and deodorants?

The active ingredients contained in antiperspirants are aluminum-based compounds. These compounds form a transitory plug within the sweat duct that stops the flow of sweat to the surface of the skin. Some studies claim that aluminum-based compounds which are applied frequently and left on the skin near the breast, may be absorbed by the skin, leading to hormonal effects. This is because a hormone called estrogen has the ability to promote the growth of breast cancer cells, thereby making some researchers to hold the strong believe that the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may as well contribute to the development of breast cancer.

READ ALSO: Dim-Light Exposure At Night Could Spread Breast Cancer To Bones, Study Finds
http://healthdiary365.com/dim-light-exposure-at-night-could-spread-breast-cancer-to-bones-study-finds/

In the case of deodorants, researchers have focused on parabens, which are preservatives used in producing some deodorants and antiperspirants that have been shown to mimic the activity of estrogen in the cells. The FDA asserts that most brands of deodorants and antiperspirants does not currently contain parabens, though they are used in many cosmetic, food, and pharmaceutical products. Consumers can look at the ingredient label to decide if a deodorant or antiperspirant contains parabens. It is easy to identify Parabens in products with names such as benzylparaben, methylparaben, butylparaben, and propylparaben.

Results from a 2004 study suggested that parabens accumulate in breast tissue, which found parabens in 18 of 20 samples of tissue from human breast tumors. Though it was difficult for the study to prove that parabens actually cause breast tumors. The researchers did not examine healthy breast tissue or tissues from other parts of the body and did not authenticate that parabens are only found in cancerous breast tissue.

Also, this research did not identify the source of the parabens and cannot establish that the accumulation of parabens is as a result of the use of deodorants or antiperspirants.

READ ALSO: Top 10 Foods that Causes Cancer

To actually confirm whether antiperspirants or deodorants usage can cause the accumulation of parabens and aluminum-based compounds in breast tissue, more research would have to be done. More research is also required to establish whether these chemicals can either change the DNA in some cells or cause other breast cell changes that may cause the development of breast cancer.

Relationship between antiperspirant/deodorant and breast cancer from researchers view

The results of a research looking for a relationship between breast cancer and underarm antiperspirants/deodorants were reported in 2002. This study did not show any increased risk for breast cancer in women who reported using an underarm antiperspirant or deodorant. Also, from the results, there was no increased risk of breast cancer for women who used a blade and an underarm antiperspirant or deodorant, or for women who used an underarm antiperspirant or deodorant within 1 hour of shaving with a blade razor. These deductions were based on interviews with 813 women with breast cancer and 793 women with no history of breast cancer.

Results from a different study exploring the regularity of underarm shaving and antiperspirant/deodorant use among 437 breast cancer survivors were released in 2003. This study discovered that the age of breast cancer diagnosis was expressively earlier in women who used these products and shaved their underarms more often.

Additionally, women who started using both of these underarm hygiene habits before 16 years of age were diagnosed with breast cancer at an earlier age than those who started later. These results doesn’t establish a substantial link between these underarm hygiene habits and breast cancer, even though they suggest that underarm shaving with the use of antiperspirants/deodorants may be related to breast cancer.

Researchers studied antiperspirant use and other factors among 54 women with breast cancer and 50 women without breast cancer in 2006. The result revealed no link between antiperspirant use and the risk of breast cancer. Family history and the use of oral contraceptives were related with an increased risk of breast cancer.

HealthInfertility And In Vitro Fertilization by jannydear(op):
In vitro fertilization (IVF), is medical term used to describe a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm outside the woman’s body in a lab. IVF is practically a household word today compared to decades back when it was first referred to as test-tube babies. In 1978, the first test-tube baby, Louise Brown, born in England, was the first such baby to be conceived outside her mother's womb.

http://healthdiary365.com/all-you-need-to-know-about-using-a-surrogate-mother/

The process of IVF involves combining eggs and sperm outside the woman’s body in a lab. Then once an embryo or embryos form, they are immediately placed in the uterus. Apart from being complex, IVF is an expensive procedure. Only about 5% of couples with infertility issues go for this option of conceiving. However, since its introduction in the U.S. in 1981, IVF and other similar procedures have given rise to in more than 200,000 babies.

What Causes of Infertility Can be treated with IVF?

For couples trying to conceive without much success, IVF may be an option, particularly if you or your partner have been diagnosed with:

• Endometriosis
• Low sperm counts
• Problems with the uterus
• Problems with fallopian tubes
• Ovulation problems
• Antibody problems that harm sperm or eggs
• Failure of sperm to penetrate or survive in the cervical mucus
• An unsolved fertility problem

IVF is never the first step in the treatment of infertility except in cases of complete tubal blockage. Instead, it's reserved for cases in which other methods such as fertility drugs, artificial insemination, and surgery have been unsuccessful.
Before deciding to choose IVF as the last option, carefully assess any treatment center before undergoing the procedure.

Some questions to ask the staff at the fertility clinic may include:

• What is the success rate of pregnancy per embryo transfer?
• How much does it cost to store embryos and how long can we store them?
• What is the success rate of pregnancy for couples with fertility issues in our age group?
• How many twins or other multiple births are from those deliveries?
• What is the live birth rate for all couples who undergo this procedure each year at your facility?
• Do you take part in an egg donation program?
• What is the cost of the procedure, including the cost of the hormone treatments?

What Can I Expect From IVF?

The first step in IVF involves injecting hormones so you produce multiple eggs monthly instead of only one. Tests would be conducted on you to check whether you're ready for egg retrieval.
Injections of medication that develops the eggs and begins the ovulation process will be administered to you before the retrieval procedure. It is very vital that the timing is strictly adhered to because the eggs must be retrieved just before they emerge from the follicles in the ovaries.

READ ALSO: Male Infertility: Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment

Retrieving the eggs too late or too early will cause the eggs not to develop properly. Your doctor may perform blood tests or an ultrasound to be sure the eggs are at the right stage of development before retrieving them. Instructions will be given to you the night leading to the procedure which you must adhere to.
Most facilities give pain medication to women and the choice of being mildly sedated or going under full anesthesia.

During the procedure, ultrasound will be used to locate follicles in the ovary and the eggs are extracted with a hollow needle. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes to one hour.
Your partner will have donated his sperm on the same day. After your eggs are retrieved, they will be properly mixed with your partner’s sperm in the lab. The fertilized eggs are then kept in the clinic under observation to ensure optimum growth. You may even wait up to five days until the embryo reaches a more advanced blastocyst stage.

READ ALSO: Ectopic Pregnancy: Symptoms, Causes, Complications, Prevention, and Treatment

Once the embryos are ready, you will be asked to return to the IVF facility so doctors can transfer, one or more into your uterus. This procedure is quicker and easier than the retrieval of the egg. A flexible tube called a catheter will be inserted by the doctor through your vagina and cervix and into your uterus, where the embryos will be deposited. Most IVF experts transfer up to three embryos at a time to increase the chances of pregnancy, most IVF experts recommend transferring up to three embryos at a time. Though this could mean multiple pregnancy.

You will remain in bed after the procedure for several hours and be discharged four to six hours later. About two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test will be conducted on you.
In some cases, a man may have low sperm count. In this case, the doctors may combine IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection. In this procedure, a sperm is taken from semen or from the testicles and inserted directly into the egg. Once a viable embryo is produced, it is transferred to the uterus using the IVF procedure.

What Are the Success Rates for IVF?

A woman’s age and the cause of infertility are some factors that determine the success rates for IVF. According to the CDC, the most recent report from 2009 found:
• Pregnancy was achieved in an average of 29.4% of all cycles (higher or lower depending on the age of the woman).
• The percentage of cycles that resulted in live births was 22.4% on average (higher or lower depending on the age of the woman).

Are There Other Issues With IVF to Consider?

Embryos that you do not use in your first IVF attempt can be frozen and kept for later use. This will save you money if you undergo IVF a second or third time. You may decide to donate them to another infertile couple if you do not want your leftover embryos. Also, you and your partner can decide to ask the clinic to destroy the embryos. Both you and your partner must agree before the clinic will destroy or donate your embryos.

A woman's age is a major factor in the success of IVF for any couple. For instance, a woman who is under age 35 and undergoes IVF has a 39.6% chance of having a baby, while a woman over age 40 has an 11.5% chance. However, the CDC recently found that the success rate is increasing in every age group as the techniques are refined and doctors become more skilled.

What Are The Costs of IVF?

According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the average cost of an IVF cycle in the U.S. is $12,400. This price will differ depending on where you live, the amount of medications you're required to take, the number of IVF cycles you undergo, and the amount your insurance company will pay toward the procedure.

HealthMale Infertility: Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment by jannydear(op):
Male infertility can be described as inability of a man to impregnate a woman after about a year or longer of engaging in frequent unprotected sex. Different factors can be responsible for male infertility. Some of the causes are:

Low sperm production
Abnormal sperm function or blockages that inhibit the delivery of sperm.
Chronic health problems like injuries, lifestyle choices and other factors can be responsible in causing male infertility.
Symptoms of Male Infertility

The inability to get a woman pregnant is probably the most obvious sign of male infertility. There may really be no other symptoms, though in some cases, symptoms can be caused by:

Hormonal imbalance
Inherited disorder
Dilated veins around the testicles

Symptoms associated with infertility include:

Pain, swelling or a lump in the testicle area
Problems with ejaculation or low sexual desire
Abnormal breast growth (gynecomastia)
Erectile dysfunction
Persistent respiratory infections
Having a low sperm count (fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen or a total sperm count of less than 39 million per ejaculate)
Inability to smell
Decreased facial or body hair or hormonal abnormality
Causes of Infertility in Men

Male fertility is a complex process. The following must be in place before a man can get a woman pregnant:

You must produce healthy sperm: This involves the growth and formation of the male reproductive organs during puberty. At least one of your testicles must be in good shape, and your body must produce testosterone and other hormones to generate and maintain sperm production.

Sperm have to be carried into the semen: Once sperm are formed in the testicles, delicate tubes transport them until they blend with semen and are ejaculated out of the penis.

There needs to be enough sperm in the semen: If your sperm count (number of sperm in your semen) is low, it reduces the chances that one of your sperm will fertilize your partner’s egg. A low sperm count is fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen or fewer than 39 million per ejaculate.

Sperm must be functional and able to move: If the motility or function of your sperm is irregular, the sperm may not be able to reach or penetrate your partner’s egg.

Medical Causes of Male Infertility

Problems with male fertility can be caused by a number of health issues and medical treatments. Some of these include:

Varicocele: Though reversible, varicocele is the most common cause of infertility in men. A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins that drain the testicle. It is yet unknown why varicoceles cause infertility, but it may be linked to abnormal testicular temperature regulation. Varicoceles can reduce quality of the sperm. The sperm numbers and function can improve if varicocele is treated, and may also possibly improve results when using assisted reproductive techniques such as in-vitro fertilization.

Infection: Infections can impede sperm production or cause scarring that blocks sperm passage. These include inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis) or testicles (orchitis) and some sexually transmitted infections, including gonorrhea or HIV. It is possible for some infections to cause damage in testicle, most often sperm can still be salvaged.

Ejaculation issues: When semen enters the bladder during orgasm instead of coming out from the tip of the penis, it is called retrograde ejaculation. This ejaculation problem can be caused by various health conditions such as diabetes, spinal injuries, some medications, and surgery of the bladder, prostate or urethra.

In cases where a man has problems with his spinal cord or some certain diseases, he may be unable to release semen, even though he may produce sperm. In these cases sperm can still be retrieved for use in assisted reproductive techniques.

Tumors: Cancerous and benign tumors can affect the male reproductive organs directly, through the glands that release hormones related to reproduction, such as the pituitary gland, or through unknown causes. In some cases, male infertility can be affected if radiation, chemotherapy, or surgery is used to treat tumors.

Undescended testicles: During fetal development one or both testicles may fail to descend from the abdomen into the sac that normally contains the testicles (scrotum) in some cases. Men with this condition may experience infertility.

Antibodies that attack sperm: Anti-sperm antibodies are immune system cells that wrongly identify sperm as dangerous invaders and attempt to eliminate them.

Hormone imbalances: Infertility in men can be caused by imbalances of other hormonal systems including the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal glands. Low testosterone and other hormonal problems have a number of possible fundamental causes.

Chromosome defects: Klinefelter’s syndrome is an inherited disorder in which a male is born with two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome (instead of one X and one Y). This may lead to abnormal development of the male reproductive organs.

Other genetic syndromes associated with infertility include Kartagener’s syndrome, cystic fibrosis, and Kallmann’s syndrome.

Problems with sexual intercourse: These can include maintaining an erection hard enough for sex (erectile dysfunction), premature ejaculation, painful intercourse, anatomical abnormalities such as having a urethral opening beneath the penis (hypospadias), or psychological or relationship problems that affect sex.

Defects of tubules that transport sperm: Different tubes transport sperm. They may get blocked due to various causes such as unintended injury from surgery, infections, trauma or abnormal development, such as with cystic fibrosis or similar inherited conditions. Blockage can happen at any level, including within the testicle, in the tubes that drain the testicle, in the epididymis, in the vas deferens, near the ejaculatory ducts or in the urethra.

Prior surgeries: Certain surgeries may prevent you from having sperm when you ejaculate. These surgeries include prostate surgeries, vasectomy, inguinal hernia repairs, scrotal or testicular surgeries, and large abdominal surgeries performed for testicular and rectal cancers, among others.

Celiac disease: This is a digestive disorder caused by sensitivity to gluten. Celiac disease can cause male infertility. Fertility may be achieved after implementing a gluten-free diet.

Certain medications: Some medications can damage sperm production. These may include long-term anabolic steroid use, testosterone replacement therapy, cancer medications (chemotherapy), certain antifungal medications, some ulcer drugs and certain other medications.

Environmental Causes of Male Infertility

Sperm production or sperm function can be affected by overexposure to certain environmental elements such as toxins, chemicals, and heat, toxins and chemicals. Specific causes include:

Industrial chemicals: Lengthy exposure to chemicals such as lead, herbicides, benzenes, xylene, toluene, organic solvents, painting materials, and pesticides may contribute to low sperm counts.
Heavy metal exposure: Exposure to lead or other heavy metals also may lead to infertility.
Radiation or X-rays: Exposure to radiation can affect sperm production, though it will often eventually return to normal. But sperm production can reduce irreversibly with high doses of radiation.
Overheating the testicles: Sperm production and function can be affected by high temperatures. Some studies claim using saunas or hot tubs frequently may affect your sperm count temporarily.
Prolonged sitting, wearing tight clothing or working on a laptop computer for protracted time also may increase the temperature in your scrotum and may slightly reduce sperm production.

Health, Lifestyle and other Causes

Some other causes of male infertility include:

Illicit drug use: Anabolic steroids taken to stimulate muscle strength and growth can lead to the shrinkage of testicles and decrease in sperm production. Cocaine or marijuana usage may temporarily reduce the number and quality of your sperm.
Alcohol use: Drinking alcohol excessively can lower testosterone levels, cause erectile dysfunction and decrease sperm production. Liver disease caused by excessive drinking may lead to fertility issues.
Tobacco smoking: Men who smoke may have a lower sperm count compared to those who don’t smoke. Secondhand smoke also may also affect male fertility.
Emotional stress: Certain hormones needed to produce sperm can be affected when the body is stressed. Severe emotional stress, including problems with fertility, can affect your sperm count.
Weight: Obesity can impair fertility by directly impacting sperm negatively and causing hormone changes that reduce fertility in men.

When to see a doctor
See a doctor if you have been unable to impregnate a woman after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse or sooner if you have any of the following:
Have pain, lump, discomfort, or swelling in the testicle area
Have erection or ejaculation or problems with sexual function
Have a history of testicle, prostate or sexual problems
Have had groin, testicle, penis or scrotum surgery
Risk factors

Risk factors linked to male infertility include:

Using alcohol
Using certain illicit drugs
Obese
Smoking tobacco
Overheating the testicles
Having a history of undescended testicles
Taking certain medications or undergoing medical treatments, such as surgery or radiation used for treating cancer
Having an early vasectomy or major abdominal or pelvic surgery
Certain past or present infections
Exposure to toxins
Having experienced trauma to the testicles
Being born with a fertility disorder or having a blood relative with a fertility disorder
Having certain medical conditions, including tumors and chronic illnesses, such as sickle cell disease

Prevention

Avoid smoking.
Limit or abstain from alcohol.
Reduce stress
Avoid use of illicit drugs.
Avoid exposure to pesticides, heavy metals and other toxins.
Maintain a healthy weight.
Don’t get a vasectomy.
Avoid things that lead to lengthy heat for the testicles.

PetsDog Cancer: 8 Early Warning Signs Not To Ignore by jannydear(op): 2:16pm On Apr 27, 2018
Cancer is one of the leading cause of natural death among dogs. According to veterinary oncologist Dave Ruslander, 50% of dogs over age 10 will likely develop a form of cancer. This is because as the canine body ages, it becomes more susceptible to disease. Learn the early signs of canine cancer to keep your dog as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Consult your vet with your pet if you suspect any problem.

Early Warning Signs of Canine Cancer
Wounds that refuses to heal
Persistent wounds can be signs of abnormal cell growth in the system of your four-legged companion. A small wound or lesion should heal over time. If your pet has a recurring lesion or wound that just won’t heal, see you vet immediately.

Tumors and mysterious swellings
Tumors don’t always mean cancer. As dogs age, they are more likely to develop fatty deposits and other nonthreatening lumps. But some growths can be malignant, and tumors can signal skin cancer, mammary cancer, and other types of disease.

Perform a monthly “lump check” to keep track of your dog’s lumps and bumps. This is especially important for older dogs who develop benign growths all the time. With practice, you’ll probably learn to tell the difference between a benign fatty deposit and a more concerning growth. Check with your vet if a new lump or bump develops.

Abnormal discharge or bleeding
Alarm bells should be ringing once you notice abnormal discharge or bleeding anywhere on the body. However, this dog cancer symptom is most visible on the face. Funky eye discharge or a sudden bloody nose can indicate certain types of eye and skin cancers. Also, sores and bleeding in the mouth can be a sign of oral tumors, which often go unnoticed because people assume the discharge and odor is a normal sign of aging.

Lethargy
As dogs age, they begin to slow down, you may notice lack of energy. However, a sudden, unexplained lack of lethargy can be a sign of illness.

Lethargy is different from plain old tiredness in that it alters your dog’s enthusiasm level. They may suddenly lose interest in a favorite toy or activity, or fail to get up and greet you when you come home from work. Other signs of lethargy may include excessive sleep and delayed responses to visual and auditory stimuli.

Lethargy is a general symptom of a broad range of issues, so it doesn’t automatically point to cancer. But if your dog becomes less active, then something may be wrong.

READ ALSO: Interesting Facts to Know About Dogs

Unusual poop
You see your dog’s poop every day. So you should be able to know the difference between a normal and an abnormal poop. Persistent diarrhea, hardened stools, and straining can all be symptoms of illness. If you’re concerned about something in your dog’s output, don’t hesitate to call the vet.

Difficulty breathing
One of the most common signs of illness or injury is when normal bodily functions becomes painful. If your dog is having difficulty breathing or seems to be uncomfortable in the course of normal activities, don’t hesitate to have her checked out. Sudden, extreme discomfort or pain are important warning signs.

Rapid, unexplained weight loss or gain
If your dog begins losing weight rapidly, whether their appetite remains same or changes, contact your vet immediately. Weight loss is a particularly common sign of canine cancer, and may indicate a gastrointestinal tumor. Sudden weight gain or bloating can also be a sign of cancer.

Sudden lameness
Unlike the literal definition, lameness a change in your dog’s regular step. It may present as tenderness and subtle pain, limping or favoring a limb, or the inability to place any weight on the limb in severe cases. Lameness can be an indication of bone cancer, particularly in older dogs.

You don’t need to panic about every little hitch in your dog’s step, but sudden, persistent lameness should be evaluated by a vet.

HealthAnswers To The 9 Most Googled Questions About Sexually Transmitted Infections by jannydear(op): 1:24pm On Apr 20, 2018
An analysis of the most popular sexually transmitted disease-related searches was pulled together and a list of the top 9 most commonly Googled questions were answered by Dr Seth Rankin, founder of London Doctors Clinic, a leading provider of STD checks.

What are the symptoms of herpes?
Symptoms of herpes tends to become ostensible a few days after infection. General symptoms may include small painful blisters or sores associated with painful urination, says Dr Rankin. These sores tend to last for around 10 days, and the first attack tends to be the worst. The doctor adds that symptoms usually lay inactive most of the time, however, can be triggered by a low immune system.

How can I cure herpes?
There is currently no cure for herpes, however, the symptoms can often be managed through the use of antiviral medicines, says Dr Rankin.

“Some doctors recommend keeping the affected area clean during outbreaks, applying an ice pack, Vaseline and not wearing tight clothes to ease discomfort and the symptoms. Also, drink plenty of water to dilute the urine and ease any discomfort while passing fluids,” says Dr Rankin.

What is chlamydia?
Chlamydia is the most common STI, and is spread through unprotected sex, says the doctor. It is most common in sexually active teenagers and young adults. It’s recommended that those under 25 and who are sexually active are tested for the STI annually, due to the symptoms not always being present.

What are the symptoms of chlamydia in women?
In most cases, women don’t experience any symptoms of chlamydia, which is why Dr Rankin advises that it’s essential to frequently visit your doctor for checkups. Symptoms can present in some cases, these can include; pain or burning sensation while passing out urine, vaginal discharge, abdominal pain, heavier bleeding during periods and bleeding between period or after sex. Women may also experience pain in their lower abdomen during or after sex.

READ ALSO: Chlamydia Infections

Chlamydia is easily diagnosable, through a simple urine test, and can be treated with a course of antibiotics. The doctor added that chlamydia should be treated early to prevent potential long term issues.

What are the symptoms of gonorrhoea in women?
There are often no symptoms to indicate the presence of gonorrhea, but when it does, symptoms tends to be similar to those of chlamydia. “However, the vaginal discharge is often in a higher abundance and can be either yellow or green in colour,” explains Dr Rankin.

READ ALSO: Gonorrhea: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

The infection can be identified through a swab or urine test and can be treated with antibiotics, although it’s getting harder with time because the bug is developing resistance.

Why am I feeling pain during sex?
Several reasons could be responsible for pain during sex, it may not be directly connected to an STI. The primary reasons may include but are not limited to:

Vaginal dryness: This could be caused by childbirth, breast-feeding, stress or certain medications. This can be solved by lubrications.

Vaginal infections: the most common are Bacterial Vaginosis or yeast infections. These can usually be identified by a discharge, itchiness or a burning sensation or painful sex. If you notice any of these symptoms make an appointment with your doctor for a full diagnosis.

STIs: Sexually transmitted infections can lead to painful sex. Infections like gonorrhoea, chlamydia, genital warts or herpes sores could cause irritation or pain during sex, so if you experience any discomfort, see your doctor.

How do I treat genital warts?
There are two main ways to treat genital warts; topical treatment and physical ablation.

Topical treatment: This method of treatment is through the application of creams, lotions or chemicals directly to the warts. This form of treatment often works better on softer warts and for some people can take several months to completely remove the warts. In some cases, a combination of these topical treatments is needed.

Physical ablation is used for harder and tougher warts and works by destroying the wart tissue. It can be applied through a variety of methods, including laser removal, freezing, burning, or excision (cutting the wart away).

While having these treatments, avoid using scented soaps, bubble baths or lotions, as these can cause skin irritations” says Dr Rankin.

What is gonorrhoea?
“Gonorrhoea is a bacterial STI sharing many similarities to chlamydia and is passed on through unprotected vaginal, oral or anal sex,” explains Dr Rankin. “The symptoms don’t always present, with around 50% of women not experiencing any symptoms. The bacteria can infect the cervix, and therefore if you are pregnant it is recommended to be tested before giving birth as it can be passed onto your baby.”

What are the symptoms of STDs?
There are usually no symptoms associated with many STDs, therefore it’s vital to regularly visit your local sexual health clinic or GP,” says Dr Rankin. While there’s no universal STD, there are some symptoms which may include:

Cloudy vaginal discharge
• Pain or a burning sensation while urinating
• Heavy bleeding during your period or bleeding between periods
• Sores or blisters
• Warts or small fleshy bumps
• Vaginal itchiness, irritation or a rash
• Pain and/or bleeding during or after sex

HealthEating Lots Of Grilled Meats May Affect Chances Of Surviving Breast Cancer by jannydear(op):
The aroma of meat or poultry sizzling on the grill may cause your mouth to water as the delicious odor engulfs your senses while you await that scrumptious first bite. Eating grilled meat may sound delicious, however, a recent study suggests breast cancer survivors should avoid large amounts of grilled, barbecued or smoked meats because of the possible cancer-related health risks.

http://healthdiary365.com/can-ketogenic-diet-help-fight-cancer/

The study, published online in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, was the first of its kind to explore the effect of eating grilled meats as it relates to breast cancer survivors’ longevity.

The researchers studied more than 1,500 women from Long Island, New York, who had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996 and 1997, then followed their progress for nearly 20 years. Part of the assessments included detailing the amount of grilled/barbecued and smoked meat the women consumed, both before and after their diagnosis.

From the study, it was deduced that eating lots of barbecued, grilled or smoked meat before a cancer diagnosis lowered women survival rate by 23 percent.
Carolyn Lammersfeld, Vice President of Integrative Medicine at Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) says;
“Cooking meat at high temperatures creates carcinogens that changes the DNA that may lead to cancer. Whenever you cook meats at high temperatures, carcinogens can be formed. Processed meats have compounds within them that are known carcinogens. Especially in the case of grilling fat from the meat, it can splash, creating flames and smoke, causing carcinogens to splash back onto the food.”

The research team singled out beef, pork and lamb, in particular, as potentially harmful. In contrast, women who ate smoked poultry and fish after their diagnosis experienced better rates of survival.

Sammersfeld said more studies are needed to confirm the risk. It is important to remember that these meats can be higher in saturated fats and then are cooked in a way that produces carcinogens.

In urging cancer survivors to reduce their red-meat intake, the American Cancer Society, American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Institute for Cancer Research recommend more of a plant-based diet.

Lammersfeld explains; “There are many healthier options to eating grilled meats. Grilling veggies and fruit do not produce dangerous compounds as grilled meats do. Lentils, beans and soy products are also a wonderful source of protein. If you are not used to these foods, add one vegetarian meal into your diet a week, and increase it from there.”

If you still plan to grill meats, Lammersfeld offers these tips:

Thaw the meat before cooking.
Bake at a low temperature indoors, then finish it off on the grill.
Marinate the meat ahead of time to reduce the amount carcinogens formed in the grilling process.
Use small portions of low-fat cuts of meat.
Avoid flattening burgers when you cook them, and flip them more frequently.
Cook all meats on top of foil or in a foil package.
Grill at the lowest temperatures possible to avoid charring.
Avoid eating the charred parts if you cannot avoid charring the food.

HealthEverything To Know About Pap Smear by jannydear(op):
Cervical cancer is cancer that develops in the cells of the lower portion of the uterus. This region is called the cervix.

The small and narrow cervix connects the uterus to the vagina. It provides an entry for sperm to pass into the uterus. The cervix also provides an exit from the uterus for monthly menstrual blood flow or a baby during delivery.

The small cervix is divided into two sections and is home to two types of cells:

Endocervix: This portion of the cervix is the innermost part. It lines the “tunnel” leading from the uterus into the vagina. The endocervix is home to tall, column-like cells that are responsible for mucus secretion.
Ectocervix: This portion of the cervix is the outer portion, which protrudes into the vagina. The ectocervix is the home to squamous cells, which have the appearance of fish scales under the microscope.
Where these two cell types join is where most cervical cancers and precancerous cells form.

What is a Pap smear?

A Pap smear is a screening tool that helps in the detection of abnormal cells and cancer by sampling cells from the cervix.

Pap smear is vital for the prevention and early detection of cervical cancer. Tools such as the Pap smear and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing are essential to detect:

The presence of HPV
Precancerous cell changes
The presence of cancer

An HPV test can be obtained at the same time. It is recommended that women over 30 years old undergo both a Pap smear and HPV testing at least every year.

According to the American Cancer Society, deaths from cervical cancer have decreased by more than half in the last 40 years due to the use of the Pap smear.

What happens during a Pap smear?

A Pap smear is usually done during a gynecological pelvic exam. A tool called a speculum is introduced into the vagina so that the cervix can be fully examined. A sample of the cervical cells is then taken with a brush or spatula and sent for testing.

When should I have a Pap smear?

Frequency of Pap smear depends on several factors. These include:

Medical history
Age
HIV
Exposure to diethylstilbestrol (DES) when in the womb
A weakened immune system

It is recommended that women start receiving Pap smears at the age of 21. They should have another test every 3 years until the age of 65. Testing every 5 years can be considered in women over 30 who undergo a Pap smear with HPV testing.

In some situations, it may be recommended that women stop undergoing screening with a Pap smear. Some women may no longer require screening after a total hysterectomy in which the uterus and cervix are removed.

Women who are over 65 years old usually no longer require Pap smears. Though, each person’s risk factors may differ. Women with a history of positive cervical cancer screening and those who are sexually active with multiple partners may require continued testing.

Results of Pap smear

At times it is possible for a Pap smear result to be negative even with abnormal cells present on the cervix; this is called a false-negative result. False-negative results can be triggered by:

Not collecting enough cells for testing
Low amounts of abnormal cells
The presence of blood or inflammatory cells

A positive Pap smear result does not always indicate that cervical cancer is present. The result may simply be abnormal. If a patient receives a negative result, their Pap smear was normal and did not reveal unusual cells.

Abnormal results, referred to as positive findings, may indicate the presence of abnormal cells or cancer. These results require following up with a colposcopy, with or without a biopsy.

During a colposcopy, the vulva, cervix, and vagina are magnified with a colposcope. A biopsy may be taken for evaluation if necessary.

Common cell abnormalities include:

Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS): This diagnosis is for slightly abnormal cells that do not meet the conditions of precancerous cells. If HPV is present, additional testing will be recommended.
Squamous intraepithelial lesion: This diagnosis means possible precancerous cellular changes that are expected to need further testing. They are divided into two categories:
Low grade: A low-grade lesion has a low risk of developing to cancer in the near future.
High grade: A high-grade lesion has a high risk of developing to cancer
Atypical glandular cells: This diagnosis is indicative of abnormal cells in the endocervix. These will require further testing.
