Health / Foods To Eat If You Have Endometriosis by jannydear(f): 1:00pm On Apr 16, 2018
Endometriosis occurs when tissue resembling uterus grows outside the uterus, causing severe pains. This tissue can equally develop on the ovaries, Fallopian tubes, or intestines. It can also grow on other parts of the body.

READ ALSO: Endometriosis: Symptoms, Causes, Risk factors, and Treatment

Sometimes, this does not cause any symptoms at all, but other times, it can cause severe pain and discomfort during monthly menstruation. Other symptoms of endometriosis include:

infertility
bleeding between periods
pain in the pelvis, abdomen, or back
severe menstrual cramps
heavy periods

You need to avoid foods and drinks that cause inflammation and upsurge estrogen production to help ease the painful symptoms associated with endometriosis.

Connection between Endometriosis and Diet

Research has been conducted checking the link between diet and endometriosis symptoms. For some people, eating certain foods tends to prompt or relieve their symptoms.

A research carried out in 2013 suggested that women who ate more vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids were more protected from symptoms of endometriosis, while those who consumed red meat, trans fats, and coffee may have experienced painful effect.

READ ALSO: What is the Link between Endometriosis and Miscarriage?

A 2015 literature review published in Brazil, suggested that eating a healthful diet can prevent endometriosis from developing or deteriorating. Foods in this diet included:

fruits and vegetables
whole grains
omega-3 fatty acids

Endometriosis cannot be prevented, but people can reduce their risk of developing it by avoiding foods and chemicals that boost their estrogen levels. These substances include caffeine and alcohol. It is vital to recognize that dietary and lifestyle changes will not cure endometriosis but may help to improve its symptoms.

Diet for Endometriosis

For endometriosis, foods that cause inflammation or raise estrogen levels should be avoided. A person with endometriosis should eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, plant-based proteins, lean meats, and healthful fats.

READ ALSO: Home Remedies for Menstrual Pain

Healthful fats include avocado, nuts, olive oil, salmon, fatty fish. A person with endometriosis should also reduce their caffeine and alcohol intake, as these can increase estrogen levels. In place of fish, omega-3 fatty acids can also be introduced into the diet using supplements.

A person can also increase their fiber intake. Fiber is a vital part of a healthful diet and may help decrease the level of estrogen in the body. Consuming fresh sources of fiber can also provide vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that can reduce inflammation.

There are some special diets that may help ease symptoms of people with endometriosis. These include:

Gluten-free diet
Gluten-free diet has been trending over the last several years. A study performed in 2012 suggested that 75 percent of the 156 women who took part in the study reported a decrease in painful symptoms after following a gluten-free diet for about a year.

FODMAP diet
This diet involves a person eliminating certain carbohydrate from their diet to reduce their consumption of potentially irritating foods. The aim is to allow the gastrointestinal system to heal.

After a person eliminates these foods, they can slowly re-introduce specific foods to see how the body tolerates them. This kind of diet can be difficult for some people, because it involves removing a high number of food types from their diet, including:

dairy
gluten
processed foods
added sugars

A dietitian can help a person plan the FODMAP diet elimination program. They can help to track symptoms and identify potentially sticky foods. They can also ensure that this type of a preventive diet is appropriate for a specific medical situation.

Preparation is vital for success with this type of diet. It would be much easier to be on track if you plan out each meal and shop for items ahead of time. Also, you can browse the internet to search for some new meal ideas that work for you.

Home Remedies for Endometriosis

Apart from the dietary changes and traditional medical treatments for endometriosis, there are other remedies that are effective for managing symptoms of endometriosis. Therapies can include:

vitamin B1
regular exercise
acupuncture
chiropractic care
magnesium supplements
Chinese herbs, such as cinnamon twig or licorice root

Make sure you consult your doctor before starting to take any herbal or over-the-counter supplements.

Resist Temptations

If you must, inform your partner earlier so as to reassure him or her. Also, It could be easy for you to fall into temptation which you, unconsciously or not, set up for yourself by hanging out with the pretty colleague your office after work, or going out with a girl or guy from your past who has been flirting with you. You need to recognize the dangers before entering into the situation.

Add sexual chats to your talks
Sex isn’t only biological, it’s equally emotional as well. Sexual intimacy is unquestionably one of the most important things between couples. It’s like a glue that keeps both parties from drifting apart. So, keep the flames burning by sending each other flirty texts filled with sexual suggestions.

Remain honest with each other
Talk about your feelings of jealousy, insecurity, fear, apathy, and others that may be bothering you. If you try to hide anything from your partner, that secret will sooner or later have a negative impact on you. Don’t try to deal with things all by yourself. Be open and honest with each other. Let your partner help you and give you the support you need.

Health / See What Happens In Your Stomach When You Swallow Chewing Gum (video) by jannydear(f): 4:14am On Apr 08, 2018
What puts the “chew” in the chewing gum is a synthetic rubber called butyl rubber, which allows you to enjoy gum without destroying rubber tree forests. Strangely enough, it’s also what intertubes are made of.

So, what happens to a piece of chewing gum when swallowed? Apparently, chewing gum doesn’t break down, like other foods, when chewed. It’s also unaffected by the acids in your stomach and can withstand the normal decomposition process.

READ ALSO: Why It’s Important to Close Toilet Lid before Flushing

This is because the human body doesn’t have the necessary enzymes to break down the rubber polymers that gum is made of. Rubber is known for being good at protecting itself from acids at large, which is why rubber gloves are a good form of protection.

If it doesn’t break down, does it stay in your stomach?
No. Your body can and will effectively move the chewing gum through your digestive system within a day or two.

This revelation shouldn’t cause you to chew and swallow gums excessively. You also need to watch out for cavities caused by too much gum-chewing.

Health / Causes Of Vaginal Itching: Treatment And Home Remedies by jannydear(f): 2:50am On Apr 08, 2018
What Causes Vaginal Itching?
Vaginal itching is an uncomfortable symptom that is often caused by infections, irritating substances, or menopause. It may also occur as a result of certain skin disorders or sexually transmitted disease. In some rare cases, vaginal itching might be caused by vulvar cancer.

READ ALSO: Top 10 Home Remedies for Vaginal Dryness

Most vaginal itching isn’t a cause for concern. However, you should see your doctor or gynecologist if the itching is severe or if you suspect you have an underlying condition. Your doctor can determine the cause of your vaginal itching through an examination and testing.

Here some of the possible causes of vaginal itching.

Yeast infection
Yeast is a naturally occurring fungus that’s normally present in the vagina. It usually doesn’t cause problems. However, it can result to infection when its growth goes unchecked. Vaginal yeast infection is a very common condition, affecting 3 out of 4 women at some point in their lives. The infection often occurs after taking a course of antibiotics, as these types of medications can destroy good bacteria along with the bad bacteria. The good bacteria are needed to keep yeast growth in check. The overgrowth of yeast in the vagina can result to lumpy discharge associated with itching and burning sensation.

Irritants
The vagina may get itchy if it is exposed to irritating chemicals. These irritants may trigger an allergic reaction that creates an itchy rash over various areas of the body, including the vagina. Common chemical irritants include:

bubble baths
creams
feminine sprays
soap
douches
scented toilet paper
detergents
topical contraceptives
ointments
fabric softeners
Your urine may equally cause itching in your vagina if you have medical conditions like diabetes or urinary incontinence.

Bacterial vaginosis
This is another common reason for vaginal itching similar to vaginal yeast infection. Bacterial vaginosis (BV), is triggered by an imbalance between naturally occurring good and bad bacteria in the vagina. The condition doesn’t always cause symptoms. However when symptoms do appear, they typically include vaginal itching and a foul-smelling discharge. The discharge may be thin and dull gray or white. It may be foamy in some cases.

Sexually transmitted diseases
Numerous STDs can be transmitted during unprotected sexual intercourse and cause itching in the vagina. These include:

Chlamydia
Gonorrhea
Genital warts
Trichomoniasis
Genital herpes
These conditions can also cause additional symptoms like pain while passing out urine, green or yellow discharge from vagina and abnormal growths.

Menopause
Women passing through menopausal phase are also at risk for vaginal itching. This is due to the reduction of estrogen levels that occur during menopause, which leads to vaginal atrophy. This is a thinning of the mucosa that can lead to excessive dryness. The dryness can cause itching and irritation if you don’t get treatment for it.

Skin diseases
Some skin diseases, such as psoriasis and eczema, can cause redness and itching in the genital region. Also known as atopic dermatitis, eczema is a rash that normally occurs in people with asthma or allergies. The rash is reddish and itchy with a scaly texture. It may spread to the vagina in some women with eczema. Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes scaly, itchy, red patches to form along the scalp and joints. At times, outbreaks of these symptoms can occur on the vagina, leading to itchiness.

READ ALSO: Psoriasis: Symptoms, Types, Causes, and Treatment

Stress
Physical and emotional stress can cause vaginal itching and irritation, though this isn’t very common. It might occur when stress weakens your immune system, leaving you more prone to the infections that cause itching.

Vulvar cancer
Vaginal itching may be a symptom of vulvar cancer. This is a type of cancer that develops in the vulva, which is the external part of the female’s genitals. It includes the inner and outer lips of the vagina, the clitoris, and the opening of the vagina. Vulvar cancer may not always cause symptoms. However, when symptoms do occur, they may include itching, abnormal bleeding, or pain in the vulvar area. Vulvar cancer can be treated if diagnosed early.

When to see your doctor
You should see your doctor for vaginal itching if the itching is severe enough to unsettle your daily life. You should also contact your doctor if your vaginal itching persists for more than one week or if your itching occurs along with the following symptoms:

ulcers or blisters on the vulva
pain or tenderness in the genital area
genital redness or swelling
trouble urinating
an unusual vaginal discharge
pain during sexual intercourse
Diagnosing Vaginal Itching
Your doctor may want details about your symptoms, how severe they are and how long they have lasted. They may ask you about your sexual activities. They’ll also likely need to perform a pelvic examination. During a pelvic examination, your doctor will visually inspect the vulva and may use a speculum to see inside the vagina. They may press down on your abdomen while inserting a gloved finger into your vagina to allow them check the reproductive organs for any abnormalities.

READ ALSO: How To Get Rid of Vaginal Odor: Causes and Effective Home Remedies

Your doctor may also collect a sample of skin tissue from your vulva or a sample of your discharge for analysis. Your blood or urine may be tested too.

Medical treatment for vaginal itching
Once your doctor finds the underlying cause of your vaginal itching, they’ll recommend treatment options:

Your doctor can treat vaginal yeast infections with antifungal medications. These come in various forms, including pills, ointments, or creams. They’re available by prescription or over the counter.
Doctors often treat bacterial vaginosis with antibiotics which may be in form of pills you take orally or as creams you insert into your vagina. Regardless of the type of treatment you use, it’s important to follow your doctor’s prescriptions.
You can treat STDs with antibiotics, antivirals, or antiparasitics. You’ll need to take your medications regularly and avoid sexual intercourse until your infection or disease clears.
Menopause-related itching may be treated with estrogen cream, tablets, or a vaginal ring insert.
Other types of vaginal itching and irritation often clear on their own. In the meantime, you can apply steroid creams or lotions to reduce inflammation and ease discomfort. However, you should limit how much you use them because they can also lead to chronic irritation and itching.

Avoid using feminine hygiene products, such as sprays and douches.
Change out of wet or damp clothing right after swimming or exercising.

Health / Sleeping With Your Mobile Phone Could Cause Infertility And Cancer by jannydear(f): 3:20pm On Apr 06, 2018
Studies have shown that sleeping with your mobile phones can increase your chances of getting suffering from infertility issues and cancer. The California Department of Health warns people to keep their mobile phones at a distance to reduce radiation exposure and associated health risks.

The warning comes after increasing evidence that mobile phone use could be linked to a string of health concerns including cancer, reproductive issues and poor mental health.

While research has been unable to definitively prove that mobile phone use is dangerous, there are enough studies connecting the two to warrant carefulness, especially among teenagers, reports Daily Mail.

The notice comes after several cities issued local warnings that people should make some distance between their phones and their bodies.

READ ALSO: People Residing Near Mobile Phone Masts Are Three Times More Likely To Get Cancer

This, it says, is because of the radiofrequency (RF) energy that mobile phones use to transmit information.

While the RF from mobile phones remains at the bottom of the radiation totem poll, research has suggested that close exposure to mobile phones could harm us.

Smartphone manufacturers like Apple even include an ‘RF exposure’ notice in the iPhone’s settings where it explains that the iPhone’s RF emissions were tested at 5mm from the body, and fall within the US standards of safety, as well as providing advice for reducing exposure like using speakerphone or hands-free accessories.

Also, the new California guidance notes that RF may be able to penetrate the brain matter of children more easily than in adults, adding that exposure could also be more damaging and have lasting effects on the developing brain.

According to previous researches, mobile phone exposure may cause tumours in the brain or ears, while psychologists have warned it could also be linked to poor mental health, attention and sleep disorders in teenagers.

READ ALSO: New Study Proves Radiation from Cellphones Cause Tumors

Studies have also shown a link between RF and male sperm counts, and sperm quality.

The California guidelines also state that the irregular nature of phone signals could be to blame for these biological effects and warns against close contact when phones have two or fewer bars of signal, when moving in a car, or if you’re trying to receive or send large quantities of data.

Instead, it is best to use headsets when receiving or making calls, sleep with your phone far away from you. Also, instead of carrying your phone in your pocket, carry them in your bag.

Health / Steps On How To Escape From A Sinking Car by jannydear(f): 1:49pm On Apr 05, 2018
Death due to vehicle submersion in water is more common than you may think. When a vehicle is submerged, you have just little time to escape, don’t be fooled by what you watch in the movies.

READ ALSO: How to Stop Your Baby from Choking With 2 Fingers (Watch Videos)

Research published in Aviation, Space and Environmental Medicine by Gerren K. McDonald and Gordon Giesbrecht states that vehicle submersion has one of the highest mortality rates of any type of single-vehicle accident, accounting for 5 – 11% of all drowning.

Vehicle submersion is not a rare occurrence. It’s essential for you to understand the steps to take if you find yourself in this dire situation. Use this video as a visual guide, and follow these steps in order to ensure that you will be able to get safely out of your vehicle.

How Do I Get Out?
Upon impact of your vehicle with the water, you will have approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute in order to get out of the car before it is submerged. It is important that you remain as calm as possible in the small amount of time that you have.

Undo the seat belt
A seat belt can be helpful in the case of a car collision, but it can be horrible when trying to escape from a submerged car. Get that seat belt off and out of the way as quickly as possible and encourage others in the car to do the same.

Open the window
Manual windows are ideal when in this situation because you have a longer time period to roll the windows down. However, most car windows are now controlled electronically, which means that a few seconds after you hit the water the circuits will likely short, making it impossible to open the window. You may still have a few seconds until the water reaches the bottom of the side windows to make your escape. After this time, the pressure from the water will make it impossible to open the windows.

READ ALSO: 4 Signs of Dry Drowning and How to Prevent It

Exit the vehicle and swim to safety
Always get out of the vehicle through the nearest window. Do not try to open the vehicle door because the pressure from the water will make it difficult to do so, and it will increase the amount of water entering the vehicle, causing it to actually sink faster. Swim away from your car, and towards safety.

Call 911
Do not call 911 until after you have successfully escaped from the car because it would be unwise to attempt calling 911 while still inside the car. You will only be wasting precious time which may be at the expense of your life. Support will not be able to reach you in the 1 minute time window that you have before your car submerges.

Get the children out first
It is wise to always allow children exit before the adults. Bring the children to the front seat in order to exit through the window. Get the eldest children out first and carry toddlers and young children who can’t swim with you as you make your escape.

What If I Can’t Open the Window?
In situations where you have electronically controlled windows, and you are finding it difficult to open them before the car dies, you will need a tool to break the window. These tools are cheap and don’t require strength to use. Keeping one in your car, and within reach is a necessary safety requirement.

Expert, Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht of the University of Manitoba, trains individuals in underwater vehicle escape recommends the brand Res-Q-Me as an inexpensive and practical tool to assist in breaking windows. This tool is a hammer with a stainless steel tip used to break open windows. It also has a knuckle cover to help protect you from the broken glass.

What Do I Do If the Car Is Submerged?
If you can’t open the window fast enough, and you can’t break it there is still a small chance of escape. Once the car is fully submerged the water pressure will equalize, making it possible to open the door. In order to do this, you must be able to hold your breath under high-stress situations. Most people will not be able to hold their breath this long, which is why the chances are slight, but not impossible.

When the car is completely submerged, open the door closest to you, and allow yourself and all of the passengers in the car to exit through this door. You may need to use your feet for extra strength. The key here is waiting until the vehicle is totally submerged. If you open to door too soon the water pressure will not allow the door to open.

How to Avoid It In the First Place
Educate Yourself
It is best to know what to do in a vehicle submersion incident. Educate yourself and your family on the steps to take in order to safely exit the car. If you find yourself in this situation it will be very stressful, and having someone with a calm head and a plan will increase your chances of survival.

Be Prepared
Get a window breaking tool that can be kept in your vehicle within reach. You can practice using the tool on a small piece of tempered glass, but be sure to wear gloves while doing so to protect your hand from broken glass.

Health / 11 Warning Signs Of Low Magnesium Levels: Causes And Treatment by jannydear(f): 11:47am On Apr 04, 2018
The warning signs of low magnesium levels in your body can be difficult to detect. A magnesium deficiency can show signs like nausea, muscle cramps, fatigue, tingling sensation in your hand, and constipation. Some of these signs and symptoms may point to other health conditions. Signs of low levels of magnesium should never be disregarded. Half of your body’s levels of magnesium are in the bones, a little in the blood, with the rest in soft tissues of your body.

Having low levels of magnesium over a long period of time can also lead to various complications like heart disease, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and kidney stones.

Low magnesium side effects are often ascribed to other causes. Bad lifestyle choices can affect how magnesium is absorbed into the body. Excessive intake of alcohol, chronic diarrhea, or intake of certain medications can lead to low levels of magnesium in the body.

Importance of Magnesium in Your Body

Magnesium in the body is important for healthy functioning of nerves, muscles, bones, and heart. Magnesium helps regulate blood pressure and blood sugar, thereby giving your body the required energy.

Magnesium is a key mineral because it is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, according to the National Institute of Health. This essential vitamin is needed for healthy DNA and also contains antioxidant properties that keeps you healthy.

Connection Between Magnesium, Vitamin D & Calcium

Magnesium is also closely linked with calcium and vitamin D. Lack of magnesium can affect how vitamin D is absorbed in the body. It also helps in preventing the accumulation of excess calcium in the bones.

Magnesium affects the concentration of vitamin D which is essential for healthy bones. Doctors from the NHS reveal that vitamin D helps the body to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate which are all essential for healthy bones, teeth, and muscle function.

11 Symptoms of Magnesium Deficiency
Nausea and vomiting

Nausea and vomiting is a sign of low magnesium levels that may be overlooked. There may be many reasons linked to your nausea like being pregnant, stomach bug or food poisoning. However, a nagging feeling of nausea and vomiting is a common sign of low magnesium level in the body.

2. Arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm)

Low magnesium levels in your blood can lead to arrhythmia because magnesium helps to regulate your heart rhythm. According to the journal Hippokratia, hypomagnesemia can affect the cardiovascular system. Researchers have discovered that boosting levels of magnesium in the body helps to reduce incidences of arrhythmias.

3. Muscle cramps and spasms

Magnesium deficiency in your body can lead to muscle cramps, twitches, tics and spasms. Various types of muscle cramps can be as a result of having too little magnesium, calcium, or potassium in the body. For instance, leg cramping is a common symptom of magnesium deficiency.

4. Anxiety

Low magnesium can have a devastating impact on your feelings of anxiety and stress in your daily activities. There are some reasons why a lack of magnesium can increase anxiety levels according to a scientific study published in the journal Nutrients. Magnesium affects glutamate which is a vital neurotransmitter that controls responses to fear, panic, and anxiety. Also, magnesium regulates the adrenal glands which affect your stress response.

5. Fatigue & weakness

If you constantly feel drained, lack energy, or feel physically weak, increasing your levels of magnesium could help. Fatigue and chronic tiredness are among the early signs of low magnesium levels, the Clinical Kidney Journal reports.

8. Numbness and tingling

If you frequently suffer from numbness and tingling sensation in your arms or legs or legs, you may be have magnesium deficiency. According to doctors from the American Academy of Family Physicians, people with low levels of magnesium often experience numbness or tingling sensation.

9. Loss of appetite

A study published in the journal Nutrients discovered that a loss of appetite is often an early sign of a magnesium deficiency. Not eating a healthy, well-balanced diet where you don’t get enough vitamins and minerals could then make levels of magnesium drop even lower.

10. Constipation and low magnesium

Constipation is a sign that you could be suffering from a lack of magnesium which makes it harder to pass out stools. Low levels of magnesium have a direct effect on the incidences of constipation. Magnesium is as essential as fiber to keep your stools soft and aid easy bowel movements.

11. High blood pressure

Low levels of magnesium has been linked with high blood pressure in many researches. Magnesium has a calming effect on many functions of the body and helps to relax your blood vessels. Magnesium affects levels of potassium and calcium, which also affect blood pressure.

Common Causes of Magnesium Deficiency

Water purification

Public water-purification facilities have strengthened their efforts to remove contaminants like lead, pesticide residues, and nitrates from drinking water. However, these modern methods of treating water also drain drinking water of required minerals like calcium and magnesium. Many people have added home water filters that extract any remaining minerals from the water, thereby aggravating the condition.

Though the concentrations of calcium and magnesium in drinking-water vary significantly from one supply to another, mineral-rich drinking-water may provide important contributions to total intakes of these nutrients in some populations.

Modern farming techniques and food processing

Magnesium deficiency can also be caused by modern farming techniques which deplete the soil of vital nutrients and the way that many of our foods are processed which reduces their mineral, vitamin, and fiber content.

Chronic diarrhea

Chronic diarrhea affects magnesium absorption and can result in a magnesium deficiency.

Excessive intake of alcohol

Low levels of magnesium can also be caused by excessive or chronic intake of alcohol. Excess alcohol consumption is often linked to chronic diarrhea, and can further impact negatively on levels of magnesium.

Excessive exercising

The journal Clinical Biochemist Reviews said that extreme workouts can affect levels of magnesium and cause them to drop after long exercise.

Age affects levels of magnesium

As we grow older, our body’s ability to absorb enough magnesium from food reduces. However, according to some studies, a magnesium deficiency caused by age only affects the very elderly.18

Diabetes

Diabetes weakens magnesium absorption. Reports from the journal Postgraduate Medicine reported that there is a clear connection between diabetes and low levels of magnesium.

Diseases Caused by Low Levels of Magnesium

Osteoporosis

Magnesium is somewhat closely linked with vitamin D and calcium. So a magnesium deficiency can cause osteoporosis.

Heart disease

Low magnesium level can cause heart disease. Our body requires magnesium to maintain a healthy heart.

Asthma

A chronic deficiency of magnesium levels could lead to asthma and other respiratory conditions. The medical journal the Lancet reported that many people who suffer from asthma also have symptoms of low magnesium levels.

High blood pressure

insufficient magnesium from your diet or supplements could cause high blood pressure or hypertension. The International Journal of Hypertension discovered that levels of magnesium impacts on blood pressure and a magnesium deficiency could lead to high blood pressure.

Kidney stones

People with chronic low levels of magnesium are more at risk of developing kidney stones. According to reports from Clinical Nutrition Research journal, low levels of magnesium in urine permits for the formation of mineral deposits which can progress into kidney stones

Diabetes

Low levels of magnesium may affect insulin levels so much that it is a causative factor in type-2 diabetes, reports World Journal of Diabetes.

Foods to Prevent Low Magnesium Levels

Some of the best foods that contain high levels of magnesium are nuts and seeds, whole grains and green leafy vegetables.

Foods Rich in Magnesium

The best foods to eat to increase levels of magnesium include:

Baked beans
Whole grains like oats and brown rice
Green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale

Romance / 5 Ways To Communicate Better With Your Partner by jannydear(f): 8:06am On Mar 29, 2018
Some couples find it difficult to communicate with each other. Your partner may turn the other way any time you bring up talks about your feelings. According to recent research, talking about your feelings is not necessarily the best way for couples to achieve healthy, happy and successful relationships. Here are 6 ways to improve emotional communication and deepen your relationship:

READ ALSO: How to Differentiate Infatuation From Love

Make minor talk
At times, unimportant details like talking about a TV show or even the weather may connect you emotionally to your partner in shocking ways you can’t imagine that would be way better than deep planned deep discussion. John Gottman and Janice Driver researched a group of married couples and found that the ordinary and often transient moments that are part of a couple’s daily life have a greater impact on the health of the relationship than do apparently emotionally meaningful and serious conversations. Even something as minor as making a grocery list together can be a way of sharing space and time, and can become a way of showing love, like when you add your partner’s favorite cookies to the list without being asked.

Share small insignificant experiences
A recent research discovered that we feel closer to others when we can talk about experiences we have in common. Couples having relationship difficulties can take a first step to repairing a rupture by talking about their children, especially if they can be encouraged to speak of pleasant moments or cute incidents. Of course, since many conflicts occur around the rearing of families, you will have to be careful not to bring up moments that will trigger further disharmony.

These shared experiences do not have to be in words. Just doing something at the same time like watching a movie, riding bikes, or eating dessert, deepens both pleasant and unpleasant experiences. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a tiny action can be worth even more. Reach out and take your partner’s hand. Also, one of you can simply stand so that some small part of your body makes contact, even if only for a few seconds. These are times when talking about the experience can actually destroy the moment of closeness, it is best to just share it in silence.

Listen carefully
Knowing that you are being heard is one of the experiences most likely to reinforce a feeling of connection to your partner. One way to improve your listening skills is not only to listen, but also to understand what is being said. Understanding can be communicated with a word, phrase that captures what they’re saying, or a simple “I understand”, or even with a smile – if you really do understand. While listening, you may want to interrupt for clarification or even disagreements. If you must interrupt, be sure to ask permission by saying; “Sorry, can I ask you a question?” Then ask something that is clearly related to expounding what your partner is telling you. If you disagree with the whole idea, wait until they have finished talking before you express disagreement. But if you are not sure that they have accurately described something, you can ask for more clarification—without accusing them of lying, this can lead to an undesirable end of a seemingly harmless discussion.

Talk about yourself, but don’t take all the time
It’s important that you both get a chance to talk and listen. Finding a healthy balance between talking and listening is hard, but even harder as you get to know each other.

Romance / 5 Ways To Know If Someone You Met Online Is A Fraudster by jannydear(f): 10:48am On Mar 21, 2018
According to a research carried out in 2013, 37% of married couples actually met online. This statistics might make you want to trust just about everyone you meet online. Then, you suddenly meet this person online and you feel convinced that you’ve found your partner at last. This person may be nations away from you, but you suddenly find yourself falling deeply in love with them, causing you to tell them virtually everything about yourself.

Most people are using internet dating sites in the hope of finding true love. Also, more and more cyber fraudsters are showing up online, making it somewhat impossible to tell the difference between a real person and a scammer. .

5 Ways to Know If Someone You Met Online is a Fraud
Here are some warning signals that you need to watch out for when you want to establish if they’re fraudsters or not:

Their profile seems phony
If their profile looks like something they cut from somewhere and pasted on their site, you may want to find out using plagiarism scanners. Check to see if their introduction letter has been used somewhere else. You should be able to spot a scammer immediately based on this. A real person, with honest intentions would set up their own letter and allow users to get a glimpse into their life and what they’re all about.

5 Tips to Help You Find Your Perfect Date Online

2. Check the way they describe themselves in their profile
How do they describe themselves? Their physical description of themselves should be cogent. The best way to establish if they really look like what they say they do is to ask them to send you a picture where they’re holding a specific item, or even something that is hand written, close to their body. You should check their photos closely because a lot of scammers use professional photos for their profile pictures. Check to confirm if their photos has been used anywhere else online.

3. They immediately want to start your email or personal instant messaging
You ought to be apprehensive if they’re trying to get you off the dating site on to email or personal instant messaging right from the onset. The person may mean no harm and seem genuine, but it would be safer to create a different email address entirely for use in the online dating world, where they won’t be able to get a hold of any of your personal details. A scammer may likely tell you he/she loves you right from the start. Wow! So fast?! That ought to set the alarm. Fraudsters often want to overpower their victims emotionally so as to slither into your life. Then once they are in, they strike.

4. They’re not on Facebook
Someone who can go through the process of creating an online dating profile, should be able to create a Facebook profile. We live in a world were just about anyone who’s anyone makes use of Facebook. Once you have established that they have a Facebook account, sneak around over there too! Facebook says a whole lot about a person. Do yourself a favor and have a look at things such as the date they created their profile. If the date is too current for comfort, then they might just be con. Also take a look at the pictures, their friends and their updates.

5. They demand for Cash
Do I need to elaborate? This is a no-brainer. The fact that they even considered to ask you for money, no matter the amount, should be enough to expose them. Immediately they do this, you can disable, block or report them. Sympathy scams are everywhere these days. Our modern culture has created a world where some people often feel the need to create a fake identity just to get a taste of what a real relationship could feel like, because they don’t see themselves as worthy of being in a real relationship.

Some persons who claim to be smart still end up falling for these scammers. If two or more of the Red Flags that we talked about here applies to your internet lover, then its time you considered the fact that they might not be real.

Health / Anal Herpes by jannydear(f): 4:28pm On Mar 18, 2018
What is Anal Herpes?
Anal herpes is an infection caused by the herpes virus that break out as sores around the anus. Anal herpes are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV) — in particular, a type of HSV called HSV type 2, or HSV-II. All these infections are gotten majorly via sexual contact. Syphilis, chancroid, and donovanosis are infections that can cause different types of lesions around the anal opening.

What are the symptoms of Anal Herpes?
Symptoms include:

pain and itchingin and around the anus
red bumps or white blisters
ulcers that grow at the site of new blisters
scabs that cover ulcers that have ruptured or bled
changes in bowel habits
How is Anal Herpes Transmitted?
HSV-II is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that is spread from person to person through sexual intercourse. Not everyone with genital herpes has anal herpes. According to the CDC, in the United States, one in six people has genital herpes. The same virus that causes genital herpes can cause lesions in the genitals, anus, or perianus.

READ ALSO: Genital Herpes: Types, Symptoms & Treatment

How is Anal Herpes Diagnosed?
Your doctor may administer treatment after physical exam, if you have apparent symptoms of anal herpes. However, some doctors will want to conduct additional testing to authenticate the diagnosis. Because several different sexually transmitted microorganisms can cause anal symptoms, your doctor may want to confirm the exact cause of your infection before treatment.

Your doctor will get your blood sample which will be sent to a lab where tests will check the cause of your symptoms. With that information, your doctor can discuss treatment options.

How is Anal Herpes Treated?
Treatment of anal herpes may also reduce your risk for passing the infection to a sexual partner. The primary treatment for anal herpes is antiviral therapy. HSV-II is a virus. Antiviral medications fight the virus. People with HSV-II are administered antiviral medications to lessen the symptoms until the outbreak stops. In addition, a doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication to take regularly.

READ ALSO: Causes Bumps on Anus, Symptoms & Home Remedies

If your anal herpes is severe, your doctor may suggest intravenous antiviral therapy, where antiviral medicines will be injected directly into your bloodstream through a needle inserted into a vein.

Can HSV-II be cured?
HSV-II is a lifelong infection and cannot be cured. After the first outbreak, the virus will move to your nerve cells. The virus will stay in your nerve cells for the rest of your life. Even though the virus is still present in your body, it may be dormant or inactive for long periods of time. Outbreaks are typically triggered by an external factor such as sun exposure, stress, or illness.

Is Anal Herpes Contagious?
Anal herpes is highly contagious. It’s most likely to be transmitted to another person when lesions are present on skin in or around the anus. You can be infected with the virus if you have sexual contact with an infected person. In addition, you can pass the infection to a sexual partner even when the virus isn’t causing noticeable symptoms.

Reduce your risk
Because STIs like HSV-II are passed during sexual contact, you can lower your risk by engaging safe sex. Use these safe sex measures to reduce your risk:

If you’re sexually active, ask your doctor to conduct regular STI screenings.
Wear a condomor barrier protection during every sexual encounter, including anal or MouthAction.
If you’re in a relationship, practice monogamy.
Abstain from sex altogether.

Health / FDA Intends Lowering Nicotine Levels In Cigarettes by jannydear(f): 3:57pm On Mar 18, 2018
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it plans to reduce the amount of addictive nicotine in the country’s cigarettes.

The agency said on Thursday that the goal is to lower the amount of nicotine to slightly or non-addictive levels.

During a media briefing, the FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said;

“We see a historic opportunity here to use that product standard to possibly more rapidly migrate smokers off of combustible cigarettes, that we know cause a lot of death and disease related to tobacco use, and potentially onto products that can provide adults with access to nicotine without all the harms associated with combustion.

However e-cigarettes “and other products that could offer a bridge to giving up need to be correctly valued,” he stated.

Andrea Spatarella, a lung health expert from the Center for Tobacco Control at Northwell Health, in Great Neck, N.Y, commended the move;

“Exploring a product standard to lower nicotine content in cigarettes to minimally or non-addictive levels is an exciting concept. Any and all efforts to reduce or eliminate the health burdens and tobacco-related deaths to millions of Americans deserves consideration.”

The FDA noted that cigarette smoking kills more than 480,000 Americans yearly and costs approximately $300 billion a year in direct health care and lost output.

Director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, Mitch Zeller, said at the briefing that given their blend of toxicity, addictiveness, prevalence and effect on non-users, cigarettes are the group of tobacco product that causes the greatest public health problem. In fact, cigarettes are the only legal consumer product that if used as planned will rashly kill half of all long-term users.”

Gottlieb added that reducing levels of nicotine in cigarettes and other policy measures could help avert millions of tobacco-related deaths in the United States.

The proposal on reducing nicotine levels includes a review of current science about how nicotine creates and tolerates addiction to cigarettes, and requests for public input and analysis.

Gottlieb said there could be unintended consequences to making cigarettes less addictive, for instance, the move could increase the growth of a black market in high-nicotine cigarettes.

Gottlieb added that a new study, published online March 15 in the New England Journal of Medicine, has advocated that millions could benefit from the proposed move.

“If this setup were implemented, this analysis suggests that approximately 5 million additional adult smokers could quit smoking within one year of implementation,” Gottlieb said.

Romance / How To Differentiate Infatuation From Love by jannydear(f): 6:26am On Mar 16, 2018
It can be easy to mix up the definition of infatuation with love. Infatuation is a strong, intense feeling that can make you do the most mindless things for the sake of your deep feelings for the object or person of your infatuation. You may think that you’re head-over-heels in love with someone, when what you actually feel is purely infatuation.

READ ALSO: Love, and not Sex is Important In a Relationship

Infatuation is selfish. This is because, when you are infatuated, you only focus on how the other person makes you feel, rather than consider whether or not that feeling is responded or if the feelings is hurting the other person. Thus, infatuation can cause us to act and think in selfish ways since you take from the other person and let this taking assure you, therefore qualifying the feeling as love.

What is Infatuation?
Infatuation is best defined as strong and often foolish and extravagant passion or admiration that is often fleeting or short-term. The feeling is intoxicating, taking you to the highest of heights when things go well, and the lowest of lows when it doesn’t.

Most relationships that eventually end up in breakup or divorce after a short while started out as infatuation. In this case, the couple can’t seem to get their eyes and hands off of each other at first. It’s only in a few relationships that infatuation will grow into something more lasting, which can then be considered love.

READ ALSO: 7 Signs Your Partner Is Still In Love With Their ex-Lover

Some people mistake infatuation for love, which can cause them to make all sorts of rash and crazy decisions. When the flame of infatuation finally dies down, it will be easier to see that your feelings weren’t real love at all. So, here’s how to know if what you’re feeling is love or just infatuation.

Selfish desires
You always want the person to be with you when you’re infatuated. Most times, you both forget your duties because just to be together. You expect everything else to be secondary. When it’s love, however, you become more selfless and more considerate of each other’s needs and priorities.

Possessiveness
An infatuated person will want their partner’s presence to be an guarantee of their feelings. However, when you’re in love, you understand that they don’t have to be around you for you to feel good about yourself or your relationship. It’s common to want to be with each other every hour of the day when you are infatuated. You’ll likely always demand that they spend all their time with you, resulting in your becoming possessive, grasping and even insecure.

Sensitive emotions
Infatuated makes you feel light-headed one moment, and down in the dumps the next. This is because you feel like you’re in a roller-coaster, where your feelings, as sensitive as they are at this moment, are going to the extremes. When you see your partner, you feel on top of the world, but their absence, even for a brief moment, destabilizes you and even affects other things around you.

You’re living in a world of illusion
If you always fantasize about a person everywhere you go or while carrying out your daily activities, you may likely be infatuated. The person of your imagination may not even realize you strongly about them.

Perfection and flaws
You are infatuated when you consider the person of your interest perfect. You tend to think that person has all the qualities in a romantic partner you’ve ever wanted. But, when you’re in love, you have a more genuine understanding on the fact that the person is not perfect, but you love them and their imperfections.

Thinking goes erratic
Infatuation has a way of fastening every thought you have to the object of your affection. You become irrational, wild and unpredictable in your thoughts. You try to connect everything you see around you like news on TV, songs on radio, inscription on clothes, and every other thing to the person you are infatuated with.

Losing concentration
You may be infatuated if you are on one task, but your mind wanders off to thoughts about your crush. You can’t seem to perform at your best level anymore because your concentration is divided, be it at work, in school, doing chores, or even hanging out with friends. You constantly allow your thoughts of that person take over your focus, energy and attention.

You drop everything
When you’re infatuated, you find yourself struggling to finish some task at the office, and you suddenly abandon everything, not concerned if your boss will fire you the next day, just to be with your crush.

When you mistake infatuation for love, it can cause you a heartbreak. Being infatuated can feel a lot like being in love. However, the best way to differentiate love from infatuation is to keep in mind that infatuation is driven more by feelings. Also take it one step at a time. Don’t give yourself totally, if it’s infatuation, the feelings will fade away in no time. Just don’t rush in.

Health / What Is Vitiligo? by jannydear(f): 2:40pm On Mar 14, 2018
Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin disease in which there is a progressive destruction of the skin’s pigment-producing cells called melanocytes, resulting in areas of white skin lacking melanin pigment. It is not rare for hairs growing in areas of vitiligo to lose their normal color.

What Causes Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is caused by a loss of pigment in the skin, due to damage of pigment-forming cells known as melanocytes. Melanin is the pigment that gives the skin its typical color. Although vitiligo affects all races equally, it is more obvious in dark-skinned people.

READ ALSO: DIY Skin and Hair Care for Women

There are several theories as to the origin of vitiligo. A condition indistinguishable from vitiligo can be induced in some individuals after topical exposure to certain phenol-like chemicals.

What Are Vitiligo Risk Factors?
Although most cases of vitiligo seem to occur periodically, as many as 20% of affected individuals seem to have a family history of this disease. Also, a person working in an industrial setting where there is exposure to phenolic chemicals may be at risk.

What Are Signs and Symptoms of Vitiligo?
Vitiligo can start immediately after birth and often appears as a white spot without other symptoms on a background of normally pigmented skin. The only visible change in affected areas is the loss of color, which can begin with lightening but will progress to total loss of color. If vitiligo involves hair-bearing areas, it is not unusual to note the development of gray, pigment-free hair growing from involved follicles. More of these patches may gradually enlarge and infrequently develop to involve the whole surface of the skin.

READ ALSO: African Sun and Its Effects On Skin

There are clinical subtypes of vitiligo that spread in a linear fashion down an entire limb (segmental vitiligo). Vitiligo often involves the Instruments and is susceptible to appear in areas of previous skin trauma. ompletely depigmented skin can be much more cosmetically significant in those with racially darker pigmentation. Skin affected by vitiligo is mainly exposed to chronic sun damage.

How Do Doctors Diagnose Vitiligo?
Generally, the diagnosis can be accurately made during a physical examination without the help of any further laboratory support.

It is important to distinguish vitiligo from a variety of other skin conditions in which may be affected by pigment loss (leukoderma).
Some of these conditions are present at birth like albinism.
Others may have easily treated infectious etiology, like the fungus infection
It may be necessary to perform a skin biopsy in order to differentiate these disorders.
When Should Someone Seek Medical Care for Vitiligo?
If an area of pigment loss becomes apparent, it would seem prudent for any patient to have the diagnosis of vitiligo confirmed by a physician.
In a minority of patients, vitiligo is associated with a variety of systemic diseases, many of which have an autoimmune origin. A complete history, physical examination, and possibly laboratory testing is necessary to rule out the presence of these complicating conditions.
One should remember that treatment of such associated conditions is unlikely to have any effect on the course of vitiligo.
When vitiligo develops in certain individuals, there can be a severely deleterious effect on their sense of well-being.
It is vital that efforts be made to treat the condition itself as well as the associated psychological factors that can occur in severely affected patients.
What Is the Treatment for Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is not contagious. Treatment of vitiligo is dependent on its extent of involvement. It is unlikely that if more than 5%-10% of the skin is involved that topical therapy would be feasible.

What Medications Treat Vitiligo?
Topical treatment generally involves the application of medications that constrain the inflammation. Most commonly, potent topical steroids have been very useful in certain cases of vitiligo. Care must be taken to reduce the use of such medications for a specific duration due to the side effects that come from using it excessively.

Another therapy is the application of topical calcineurin inhibitor, tacrolimus. These types of medications can have a beneficial effect and may be slightly safer to use for long periods of time. The use of certain a certain types of lasers which emit light in the UVB range (308 nm) can be effective.
ther options include cosmetic camouflages (Covermark or Dermablend), skin stains (artificial tanning chemical), and tattoos. In light-skinned individuals, avoiding the tanning of normally pigmented skin would decrease the contrast with vitiligo skin.

If a patient becomes entirely depigmented, it may be cosmetically wise to consider a medication, monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone, which is likely to destroy the few remaining melanocytes producing monochromatic white skin.

There are no universally effective treatments that work in all patients. When selecting a treatment plan, it is important to consider that most patients with vitiligo live normal healthy lives.

What Are Vitiligo Surgery Options?
There are a variety of surgical options to treat vitiligo.

They mainly all involve transplanting the patient’s normal melanocytes into areas of vitiligo. This can be accomplished by taking small “pinch” grafts or split thickness grafts of normal skin and placing them into suitably prepared recipient sites. If all goes well, the melanocytes gradually grow out of the grafts and cover the surrounding involved skin.
At certain research institutions, melanocytes from normal skin can be harvested and grown in tissue culture and then placed in suitably prepared recipient sites. Although somewhat cosmetically acceptable, even successful surgical outcomes are nevertheless distinguishable from normal skin.

Health / What Is Cryptic Pregnancy? by jannydear(f): 5:32am On Mar 09, 2018
Cryptic Pregnancy
A cryptic pregnancy, also called denial of pregnancy, is one that goes undetected until delivery. This means that you are pregnant, but the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) levels are too low to be detected even in a blood or urine test. One in 450 pregnant women don’t even know they are pregnant until they reach 20 weeks of pregnancy, and one in 2,500 don’t know they are pregnant until they reach labor.

Cryptic pregnancies usually occur in women who have been on birth control methods such as contraceptive pills or tubal ligation. These women come under the ‘least expected pregnancy category’ and experience common pregnancy symptoms such as fatigue and morning sickness mildly, or do not experience any symptom at all.

Causes of Cryptic Pregnancy
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS):This occurs when small cysts form on the enlarged ovaries. They can cause hormonal imbalances in the body.
Recent pregnancy:Hormones may take time to get back to normal after your pregnancy. If you are pregnant immediately, there would be hormonal imbalance causing a cryptic pregnancy.
Low body fat: This can trigger a hormonal imbalance as in the case of athletes.
Perimenopause: During this time, the body begins to show signs of progression to menopause. It can begin as early as in the 30s, making the pregnancy go unidentified.
Birth control pillssuch as Deprovera, Norplant, or Mirena Coil release more hormones which affect the normal pregnancy hormones making them vulnerable to pregnancy.
High-stress levelscan cause a cryptic pregnancy as they influence the hormones.
Symptoms of Cryptic Pregnancy
The symptoms of cryptic pregnancy are similar to a regular pregnancy but the symptoms vary from one woman to the other.

Fatigue
Nausea and vomiting
Food aversions
Frequent urination
Weight gain
Heartburn
Headaches
Abdominal cramps
Backache
Metallic taste in the mouth
What Makes Cryptic Pregnancy Different?
Cryptic pregnancy remains a secret because of these reasons:

Urine and blood tests come out negative
You may have regular periods throughout the pregnancy, though the number of bleeding days may reduce.
You might have continuing early labor signs such as contractions and period like pain.
Slow pregnancy belly growth as baby is at the back of the womb (at the spine).
The Fetus in Cryptic Pregnancy
The development of the fetus is frequently delayed in cryptic pregnancy taking place at an extremely slow pace. However, this does not necessarily affect the health of the fetus. The mother would go to hospital only when she has severe stomach and back cramps, that is, during labor.

Menstrual Periods In Cryptic Pregnancy
Most women continue seeing their regular periods throughout the cryptic pregnancy, but this does not indicate a miscarriage. Bleeding can be heavy, light, or spot bleeding with a few large or small clots. The bleeding can be bright red, pink, brown, purple, orange, or black. It can be like a normal period, irregular or random. The bleeding could sometimes last for weeks or months, but all it does is shed away the uterine lining, this results in little or no hCG.

Negative Test Result in Cryptic pregnancy
In a normal pregnancy, the pregnancy test shows negative if it is taken too early or if you fail to follow the instructions correctly. However, same isn’t applicable in a cryptic pregnancy. The result is negative because the level of hCG is small. The placenta usually secretes hCG, which passes along the lining of the womb. It accumulates and is shown in the urine and blood. In cryptic pregnancy, the lining of the uterus sheds periodically without giving hCG the room to build up and show up in tests.

Why Ultrasound Can’t Detect Cryptic Pregnancy
In a normal pregnancy, the doctor carries out a trans-vaginal ultrasound 12 weeks into the pregnancy. Also, an abdominal ultrasound will be carried out until the due week. However, in most cryptic pregnancy cases, ultrasound scans cannot detect the growing fetus in a majority of women. This may be due to some abnormalities in the abdominal region or uterus.

Why Cryptic Pregnancy Have Longer Gestational Period
This pregnancy takes longer gestational period because the hCG will not pass into the maternal system as in a normal pregnancy. This prevents the body from generating signals essential for the growing baby development, thus making the fetus grow slowly. The babies measure smaller than they should be at various phases of pregnancy. Furthermore, regular periods during cryptic pregnancy causes the gestational period to be elongated. The heavier the period bleeding, the longer is the gestation.

Possible Complications of Cryptic Pregnancy
Since the woman isn’t aware of her pregnancy, she would not go for prenatal care. The delivery may be at home and unaided.

Prenatal complications such as hypertension, diabetes, or blood group mismatch will go undetected putting both the mother and baby at risk.
The mother may not avoid certain harmful habits such as smoking or drinking, which may affect the baby.

Cryptic Pregnancy Labor
Just like cryptic pregnancy, its labor is also strange. It is long and protracted, and you will experience labor like pains for months before you enter into actual labor. The labor pains, which may initially seem like menstrual cramps, will get worse and hurt a lot more. This, coupled with the pains lasting for months, may prompt women to see a doctor, where the pregnancy may be confirmed. The doctor may try to induce labor or perform a C-section to deliver the baby.

Some of the labor symptoms in cryptic pregnancy are:

Back pain
Nausea and vomiting
Chills and Hot flashes
Dizziness
Cold sweats
Diarrhea
Body ache
Pain in the legs that radiates to the thighs
Mood swings
Pain in the hip and pelvic region
Palpitations
Swelling of the vaginal walls due to increased blood flow
Vagina feeling bruised and painful
Painful breasts. Sometimes, the pain can be shooting, sharp pain
Vision problems
Pressure on the cervix
Stabbing pain in the sides, just like you get after running
Tugging or pulling sensation in the abdomen which may or may not be painful
The actual process of cryptic pregnancy birth in some cases is very quick and does not last long.

How to Prevent Cryptic Pregnancy
Women who are always experiencing certain pain or changes in the abdomen or pelvis, should quickly contact a doctor. Though it is difficult to detect a pregnancy, your doctor might make a guess about it. Take repeated pregnancy test if you do not get regular periods. You should speak to your gynecologist about irregular periods and get a thorough checkup.

Health / Blood In Semen (hematospermia) by jannydear(f): 2:03am On Mar 09, 2018
Blood in the semen, also called hermatospermia or hemospermia, can be very disturbing. It can make a man nervous, however, it doesn’t always point to a severe medical condition. In some cases, blood in semen often resolves on its own for men younger than 40 and with no associated symptoms.

However, blood in semen, particularly when urinating or ejaculation can signify a serious condition for men above 40, and may require emergency treatment, especially for men with a bleeding disorder, cancer, or other related symptoms.

READ ALSO: Watery Semen: What are the Possible Causes and Effect on Fertility?

Causes of Blood in the Semen
Blood in the semen can come from several different sources:

1. Infection and inflammation
Infection is usually the most common cause of blood in the semen. An infection or inflammation that occurs in any of the glands, tubes, or ducts that produce and move semen from the body can cause blood to flow from it. These include:

The gland (prostate) that produces the fluid part of semen
The seminal vesicles which is responsible for adding more fluid to the semen
The urethra which is the tube that conveys urine and semen from the male organ
Epididymis and vas deferens which are tiny tube-like structures where sperm mature before ejaculation
Blood in semen can also come from an STI (sexually transmitted infection) such as gonorrhea or chlamydia, or from another viral or bacterial infection.

READ ALSO: Pain in Testicles: Causes and Treatment

2. Obstruction
A blockage in any of the tiny duct or tube in the reproductive tract can cause blood vessels to break and release small amounts of blood in sperm. A condition called BPH causes the prostate to become enlarged.

3. Trauma or a medical procedure
Blood in the semen is common after medical procedures such as prostrate biopsy, radiation therapy, hemorrhoid injections, and vasectomy. Surgeries performed for urinary problems can cause mild or temporary bleeding which usually disappears several weeks after the surgery. Other conditions that causes blood to appear in urine include; physical trauma to the sex organs after pelvic fracture, injury to the testicles, rigorous sexual activity or masturbation.

4. Tumors and Polyps
Blood in semen can also be caused by polyps (benign growths in the reproductive tract) which causes no medical problem. Older men with high risk for cancer should be checked for blood in their semen.

5. Blood vessel problems
Delicate blood vessels involved in ejaculation can become damaged causing blood in the semen.

Other medical conditions like HIV, leukemia, liver disease, high blood pressure, can also cause blood to appear in semen.

Related symptoms include:

Hot, burning urination
Blood in urine (hematuria)
Difficulty emptying bladder completely
A painful bladder that feels enlarged
Painful ejaculation
Fever
Racing pulse
Swollen or painful areas on sex organs
Penis discharge or other signs of an STD
Tests and Evaluation for Blood in Semen
To diagnose blood in semen, the doctor may ask questions about medical history and perform a physical exam on the male organ, including examining the genitals for lumps or swelling and a digital rectal exam to examine the prostate for swelling, tenderness, and other symptoms. The doctor may also ask for the following tests:

Urine culture or urinalysis to identify infection or other abnormalities.
STD testing if a sexually transmitted disease is suspected is suspected.
PSA (prostrate-specific antigen) test, to check for prostate cancer in the blood.
Cystoscopy, CT, MRI, or ultrasound may be conducted to assess the patient further.
Condom test may be carried out with the man wearing a condom. The semen will be checked for blood to examine if the blood is actually coming from the partner’s menstrual cycle or from the semen.

Treatment for Blood in Semen
Antibiotics may be administered for the infections.
An anti-inflammatory drugs may be prescribed for some types of inflammation.
When blood in semen comes from a recent urology procedure, it usually disappears by itself in a matter of weeks.
Young men that experiences blood in the semen once or twice without other symptoms can resolve on its own without treatment.
However, consult your urologist if you have recurrent episodes of blood in the semen along with painful urination or ejaculation.

Health / Important Screening Tests Every Man Needs by jannydear(f): 6:57am On Mar 08, 2018
Why Screening Tests Are Important
Getting the right screening test at the right time is one of the most vital things a man can do for his health. Screenings can help detect diseases early, before you develop symptoms, when they’re easier to treat. Colon cancer can be stopped with early detection. Also detecting diabetes early through tests may help prevent complications such as impotence.

Prostate Cancer
After skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer found in men. It tends to be a slow-growing cancer, but there are also aggressive, fast-growing types of prostate cancer. Screening tests can help find this cancer early.

Tests for Prostate Cancer
Screenings for healthy men may include a digital rectal exam (DRE) and possibly a prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test. Government guidelines recommend against the routine use of the PSA test.

Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer is the second most deadly kind of cancer that develops from colon polyps (growths on the inner surface of the colon). Men have a higher risk of developing it than women. After cancer develops, it can attack other parts of the body. If the polyps are detected early, they can be removed before they turn cancerous, thereby preventing colon cancer.

Tests for Colon Cancer
A medical procedure called colonoscopy is a common test for detecting polyps and colorectal cancer. The test involves a doctor using a flexible tube and camera to view the entire colon. Polyps can be removed at the time of the test. A similar test is a flexible sigmoidoscopy that examines only the lower part of the colon.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
HIV, the virus that causes AIDS is found in the blood and other body secretions of infected individuals, even when there are no obvious symptoms yet. It spreads from one person to another when these secretions come in contact with the vagina, anal area, mouth, eyes, or a break in the skin. There is still no cure or vaccine for AIDS.

HIV Screening Tests
People infected with HIV can remain without showing any symptom for many years. The only way to know they are infected is with a series of blood tests. The first test is called ELISA or EIA. It checks for antibodies to HIV in the blood. It’s possible not to be infected and still show positive on the test. So a second test called a Western blot assay is done for confirmation. If you were recently infected, you could still have a negative test result. Repeat testing is recommended.

Preventing the Spread of HIV
Most newly infected individuals test positive by two months after infection. But up to 5% are still negative after six months. Total abstinence or practicing safe sex is necessary to avoid getting HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

Skin Cancer
Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It begins in specialized cells called melanocytes that produce skin color. Older men are twice as likely to develop melanoma as women of the same age. Prolonged exposure to sun and/or tanning beds increases your risks of developing skin cancer.

Screening for Skin Cancer
Regular skin self-exams should be undertaken to check for any changes in marks on your skin including color, size and shape. A skin exam by a dermatologist or other health experts should be part of a routine checkup. The treatments for skin cancer are more actual and less damaging when it’s detected early.

Testicular Cancer
This rare cancer develops in the testicles (reproductive glands that produce sperm) of a man. Most cases occur between ages 20 and 54. Men at higher risk includes those with a family history of this cancer. Such men should talk with a doctor about additional screening. Some doctors advise regular self-exams, gently feeling for hard lumps, smooth bumps, or changes in shape or size of the testes.

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)
It’s vital for everyone to know their blood pressure. High blood pressure risks increases with age. Apart from age, other contributory factors to hypertension are weight and lifestyle. It can lead to severe complications without any prior symptoms, including a dangerous swelling of an artery (aneurysm). Early detection and treatment helps reduce your risks of stroke, heart disease and kidney failure. But it can be treated. When it is, you may reduce your risk for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure.

Screening for High Blood Pressure
Blood pressure readings give two numbers. The first (systolic) is the pressure in your arteries when the heart beats. The second (diastolic) is the pressure between beats. Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. High blood pressure is 130/80 or higher, and in between those two is pre-hypertension.

Type 2 Diabetes
Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to impotence, stroke, heart disease, kidney disease, blindness from damage to the blood vessels of the retina, and nerve damage. If found early, diabetes can be controlled and complications can be avoided with diet, exercise, weight loss, and medications.

Screening for Type 2 Diabetes
A fasting blood sugar test, glucose tolerance test, or an AIC all can be used alone or together to screen for diabetes. Healthy adults should have the test every three years beginning at age 45.

Cholesterol Levels
High level of LDL cholesterol in the blood causes sticky plaque to build up in the walls of the arteries. This increases your risk of heart disease. Atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries), can progress unnoticed for many years. Over time it can lead to heart attack and stroke. Early detection, lifestyle changes and medications can reduce this lower the risk of heart-related disease.

Determining Cholesterol Levels
The fasting blood lipid panel indicates your levels of total cholesterol, LDL “bad” cholesterol, HDL “good” cholesterol, and triglycerides (blood fat). The results tell you and your doctor a lot about what you need to do to decrease the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Beginning from the age of 35, men need to undergo regular testing for cholesterol. Screening for cholesterol should start at age 20.

Glaucoma
This eye disease gradually damages the optic nerve and may lead to blindness. Irreversible vision loss can occur before people with glaucoma even notice any symptoms. Early screening tests check for abnormally high pressure within the eye, to detect and treat the condition before damage to the optic nerve.

PCOS symptoms
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common hormonal imbalance that can cause many different symptoms including the following:

Ovarian cysts
Infertility
High level of male hormones
High levels of insulin
Weight gain
Ovulation and menstrual problems
Excess body and facial hair or male pattern baldness
Anxiety and depression
Acne
Your eggs may not develop properly and may not fully ripen as a result of unusual hormone levels with PCOS, leading to ovulation disorders and infertility. If you have irregular menstrual cycles or are having trouble getting pregnant, consult your doctor about PCOS infertility testing and treatment options.

PCOS infertility treatment
If you have PCOS and are trying to conceive, the following fertility drug treatments may be helpful.

Metformin (Glucophage) – Your doctor may prescribe medication called metformin to reduce high insulin levels and soothe your hormones. After taking metformin, your ovulation cycles may become more even.

Clomid (clomiphene citrate) – To help you get pregnant without metformin, your doctor may also prescribe the fertility drug clomid. The combination of clomid with metformin often helps women with PCOS get pregnant more quickly than by just using metformin alone. Some women with PCOS may require a very high dose of Clomid to restore fertility, which can sometimes cause uncomfortable side effects.

Gonadotropins – Gonadotropins are naturally occurring hormones that fuel your ovaries to release one or more eggs. This medication may help you ovulate if you are not ovulating frequently. Women with PCOS that do not respond to Clomid treatment may benefit from fertility drug treatment with gonadotropins. If you have PCOS and do not respond to low doses of Clomid, your doctor may also recommend in vitro fertilization (IVF).

PCOS weight loss infertility treatment
Most women with PCOS, struggles with weight problems and infertility. One of the best natural therapies you can do to boost fertility with PCOS is to maintain a healthy weight. A 10 percent reduction in body weight can make a big difference in helping you conceive.

PCOS fertility diet
Polycystic ovary syndrome can also increase your risk for insulin resistance, which can sometimes lead to type 2 diabetes and other health problems. Eating too many processed carbohydrates may increase your risk for insulin resistance but changes to your diet may help. Try reducing your intake of processed carbohydrates, replacing them with whole grains and foods high in dietary fiber.

Health / Cervical Cancer – Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment by jannydear(f): 1:58pm On Mar 06, 2018
What is Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer is a deadly cancer that begins in the lower end of the uterus that contacts the upper vagina called uterine cervix. Cervical cancer remains a major cause of cancer-related death in women in developing countries without access to Pap testing for cervical cancer or vaccines against human papillomaviruses (HPVs). Cervical cancer has a very high cure and survival rate if detected early. HPV Vaccination is also effective against cervical cancer.

What causes cervical cancer?
Most cervical cancers are caused by infection that has been left untreated for a long time. There are over 100 types of HPVs, and only certain types have been linked to cancers. Most people with HPV infection do not develop cancer. Other HPV types cause nonthreatening warts on the skin or genitals. HPVs can also cause cancers in men and women, affecting the throat, mouth, and anus.

HPV infection is spread through sexual or skin-to-skin contact. HPV infection is very common, the infection resolves on its own in some women. However, in others, HPV infection can linger, causing precancerous changes in the cells of the cervix. These changes can be detected by regular cervical cancer screening called Pap smear testing.

READ ALSO: Important Things Every Woman Should Know About Cervical Cancer

There are some cells called dysplasia that appear normal, but may be precancerous. Dysplasia of the cervix identified at the time of Pap testing is referred to as a squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL). Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is another term used to categorize precancerous changes in the cervix that are seen on tissue samples such as biopsies. Precancerous changes in the cervix such as CIN and SIL can typically be treated, which can prevent the development of cervical cancer.

What are the symptoms of cervical cancer?
There may be no symptoms in early stage of cervical cancer. The precancerous changes produces little or no symptoms at all. Symptoms may begin to manifest when the cervical cancer cells start to attack surrounding tissues.

Symptoms and signs of cervical cancer include:

Vaginal bleeding after sex
Abnormal vaginal bleeding
Vaginal bleeding after menopause
Bleeding or spotting between periods
Longer or heavier menstrual periods than usual
Abnormal vaginal discharge
Painful sexual intercourse
It is important to note that these symptoms are not specific for cervical cancer and can be caused by a variety of other illnesses.

What are the risk factors for cervical cancer?
Cervical cancers are caused by infection with one of the high-risk HPV types. However, since not all people who are infected with HPV will develop cancer. Other factors also play a major role in the development of cervical cancer. They include;

Excessive smoking of tobacco
HIV infection
Obesity
Immune system suppression
Chlamydia infection in past or present
Long-term use of oral contraceptives
Having three or more full-term pregnancies
Giving birth before age 17
Poverty
Family history of cervical cancer
What are guidelines for cervical cancer screening?
All women between the ages of 21 and 65 are expected to receive cervical cancer screening every three years. A Pap smear test is obtained during a routine pelvic examination. When this test is combined with an HPV test, screening every five years is acceptable for women above 30 years.

Women who have had undergone hysterectomy for a benign condition no longer have a cervix, and thus do not require cervical cancer screening. However, women who have had a subtotal hysterectomy still have a cervix and should be screened.

What tests are used to diagnose cervical cancer?
Pap smear test is performed to screen for cervical cancer. If abnormal cells are found on the Pap smear, a colposcopy procedure is then performed. Colposcopy uses a lighted microscope to inspect the external surface of the cervix during a pelvic examination. If abnormal areas are detected, a small tissue sample (biopsy) is taken for examination by a pathologist to look for precancerous changes or cancer. Colposcopy isn’t painful and requires no special anesthesia.

READ ALSO: Ovulation Pain – Should it Be Ignored?

Another method is conization, which involves the removal of a cone-shaped portion of the cervix around the cervical canal. This tissue can be removed with a thin loop of wire that is heated by an electrical current, known as loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). LEEP is performed in the doctor’s office with a local anesthetic.

After a conization, the pathologist examines the tissue to chieck if precancerous changes are present. If cancer is present, depending on the size and extent of the tumor, other tests might be carried out to help determine the degree to which the tumor has spread. These additional tests can include chest X-rays, or CT or MRI imaging studies. Examination of the interior of the urinary bladder using a thin, lighted scope, a process called cystoscopy may be needed. An examination under anesthesia permits the doctor to carry out a manual pelvic examination without causing pain to help check the extent to which the cancer has spread within the pelvis.

What are the stages of cervical cancer?
The stage of any cancer refers to the extent to which it has spread in the body at the time of diagnosis. The stages of cervical cancer are as follows:

Stage 0: This stage is not a true invasive cancer. The abnormal cells are only on the surface of the cervix, as in CIN 3. This stage is not included in the FIGO system and is referred to as carcinoma in situ (CIS).
Stage I: There is a small amount of tumor present that has not spread to any lymph nodes or other sites.
Stage II: The cancer has spread beyond the cervix and uterus, but has not attacked the pelvic walls or the lower part of the vagina.
Stage III: The cancer has grown into the lower part of the vagina or the walls of the pelvis. The tumor may be blocking the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder, called ureters. There is no spread to other sites in the body.
Stage IV: This is the most advanced stage, in which the cancer has spread to the bladder or rectum, or to sites in other areas of the body.

Romance / How To Date A Workaholic And Make It Work by jannydear(f): 7:03am On Mar 06, 2018
Dating a workaholic can be quite challenging, you have to work a bit harder to maintain a healthy relationship. You may want to quit the relationship, but if you care about this person and even admire their work ethic, the extra effort you put in is worth it.

The notion that the relationships we build are more important than our job is true. This can be totally true if you’re not someone who give your so-called dream job a top priority above every other thing, including your love life. If you’re ready to take on this challenge, here’s how to make to make the relationship work.

Dating a workaholic and keeping your relationship healthy
1. The workaholics have to be willing to make it work too
The first thing you have to figure out when you get to know you are dating a workaholic is to ask them if they are really in to make the relationship work. The effort has to be both ways. If you are the only one putting in effort to make it work, then you may not achieve the desired results. When their job becomes the only thing they care about, your relationship won’t last.

2. Make out alone-time together
If they have a tight schedule – which obviously would always be the case, you’ll have to find your way to create time together. Both of you have to actually schedule time together. It’s like planning for date nights except you might just be planning time to hang out together at home.

3. Pay them a visit at work
This selfless act shows that you are equally supporting your partner’s work and making effort to be there during your free time. You can visit your busy spouse at work (if it’s allowed), if they’re at work far more than you are. You don’t have to hang around for long. Sometimes all you really need to do is to bring them a coffee and give them a kiss.

4. Learn more about their work
You may need a better understanding of their job and how it works. Ask them why they consider their job vital, that they have to be working all the time. It shows you care and support their career.

5. Never cancel date nights
You and your busy partner have to keep this as a rule. This is a crucial time to bond and you must not ignore it. Your scheduled date nights are one of the only things keeping your relationship normal. You have to have that intimate time together. You should never cancel date nights, unless in cases of emergency. And if you unquestionably need to, the date has to be rescheduled preferably for the next day.

6. Ensure to stay involved with their work life
You can try to help out your seemingly busy partner by making efforts to incorporate yourself in their work life. Not only will it help you spend more time with them, but it’ll be really significant to your partner. They’ll feel like they’ve finally found a teammate when they see the effort you’re making.

7. Communicate when you feel neglected
You have to communicate to them when it appears their work wants to start to taking over. Tell them you’re feeling neglected so they can get back their relationship on track. And they have to be open to receiving this, too. It’ll be easy for them to get upset, but they have to be understanding and make some time for the relationship.

8. Pick up some tasks at home
If your spouse works a lot, you may likely work a lot less than they do. That means you’ll have to keep the home running. If they have to work all the time and then come home and do a ton of chores while you’ve been doing fairly nothing, it’ll distressed them. That’s not to say you have to do every little thing, but both of you can work on how to share responsibilities.

9. Use their relaxation time from work to bond
After they return home, they’ll want to sit down to relax a little. They’re tired and they need to relax. That’s your opportunity to get close and have some close time. You can give them a back massage or prepare them a dinner so you can eat together when they return home. It’s very simple stuff that can make the biggest difference in your relationship.

10. Never let your sex life go down
Your partner may always be tired because of their work. However, your sex life needs to be active in order to make the relationship work and keep you both connected. So you may have to schedule time for it if need be.

Dating a workaholic can be difficult, especially if you are unsure of how to go about it. These tips can guarantee your relationship stays in superb shape.

Most women want to return home and tell their husbands about their day or something else interesting that happened to them. He hits you
This is the limit. A man should never hit you no matter what, not to talk of your husband. It’s a big NO-NO and a big pointer that the marriage will soon hit the rocks. Your husband should never physically or even mentally hurt you.

He says you cannot make on your own it without him
Most men use this as a form of control to make their wives think that they can’t survive without them, and that they are no good. This is a form of verbal abuse and no woman should permit it. They do this because they have low self-esteem and are trying to drag you down to their level.

He’s not affectionate
Many men want sex all the time even if the woman isn’t in the mood, and some never do. However, sex does not necessarily equal affection. He should at least be romantic without hinting at being sexual by holding your hand, cuddling with you on the couch, and hugging you on a daily basis.

Some people with low self-esteem tends to be uncomfortable with compliments. But saying nice things to people about themselves is just polite and loving. This means he doesn’t care either way.

He says you can’t make it without him
Some men use this as a form of control to make their wives believe that they can’t survive without them, and that they are no good. This is verbal abuse, don’t allow him degrade you. They do this because they have low self-esteem and are trying to drag you down to their level.

Health / Do Crystals Have Healing Powers? by jannydear(f): 2:20am On Mar 04, 2018
Crystal healing is a pseudoscientific alternative medicine practice that uses stones and crystals. Advocates of this healing technique which has seemingly been gaining popularity in the past five years, claim that these have healing powers, although there is no scientific foundation for this assertion.

Most people are now beginning to consider crystals as alternative healing since it was powered by testimonials from celebrities like Adele, Kate Hudson, and Katy Perry, who clutches one during performances to get rid of stage fright.

Himalayan salt lamps marketed as mood boosters and magnetic bracelets portrayed as pain relievers are easily found on Amazon and at Walmart has become one of the best-selling home enhancement products.

Learned millennials now pay huge amounts per hour for a session of crystal or flower essence therapy from alternative healing centers in San Francisco and New York City. This therapy uses tinctures dropped under the tongue, or Reiki, to transmit healing energy through the hands.

Lisa Levine, a licensed acupuncturist and the founder of the popular Maha Rose Center for Healing in Brooklyn says;
“We get a lot of people who come to New York to work, realize they need some tools to stay healthy because life is really intense, and say traditional medicine is not meeting their needs.”

A one-hour Reiki session there will run $100 to $175, and a palm-sized labradorite crystal cost about $30.

How positive are the Results?
Neuroscientists and psychologists actually believe this treatment works, but not essentially for the reasons people are told they do.

Psychologist Stuart Vyse, author of “Believing in Magic: The Psychology of Superstition.”, Says;

“The placebo effect is almost certainly at play. And the mere act of doing something to take control of your destiny can often increase hope, brighten mood, and expand your capability to cope with a chronic condition, says “There is no scientific evidence to support the medical effectiveness of any of these remedies,” he says. “But there is the possibility that they might have an indirect psychological benefit.”

Scientific perspective
One studies ever to search crystal healing was conducted in 2001 by University of London psychologist, Christopher French. He gave out booklets to 80 volunteers, explaining the sensations they might have while holding crystals, including increased energy, deep concentration and tingling limbs. Then he gave genuine gemstones to half of the participants and the other half fakes made of cheap plastic. Those holding a fake were just as likely to respond physically as those holding the real thing. French concluded by giving credit to the power of suggestion, not flowing energy as many believe.

In 2013, another research examined magnetic bracelets, regularly used as remedies for pain. Researchers assigned 70 people with rheumatoid arthritis to consecutively wear one of four different devices (two kinds of magnetic wrist straps, a copper bracelet, and an ordinary bracelet) for 5 weeks each. They found no difference between the bracelets in easing pain or inflammation.

Sellers of Himalayan salt lamp claim their lamps give off negative ions that can increase feel-good brain chemicals, they can refer to no quality studies.

James Giordano, PhD, a professor in the departments of neurology and biochemistry at Georgetown University, said;

“Is there something about Himalayan salt that releases positive ions in the air and has a therapeutic effect on the human body at a distance? From everything I have read, I would have to say ‘No,’.”

Though he added that thy may help some people. Numerous studies have shown that short-wavelength blue light can suppress sleep-inducing melatonin, while longer-wavelength reddish-orange lights can stimulate calming brain chemicals, Giordano added.

“Himalayan salt lamps put out a really nice, pinkish light, and it’s certainly possible that could induce a feeling of emotional well-being in some people.”

Giordano also added that the plain ritual of flicking on a salt lamp, putting on a crystal, or paying a visit to a reiki practitioner, with the expectation it can help you, can induce quantifiable changes in the brain and body, a phenomenon described as Placebo effect.

In other words, if you believe it helps, it just might.

Ted Kaptchuk, PhD, director of the Program in Placebo Studies at Harvard Medical School, says the placebo effect is often wrongly assumed to be “all in your head” — a “fake” response to an inert substance. But brain imaging studies have shown that when a patient performs an action, such as taking a sugar pill or getting a sham acupuncture session, it triggers exact regions in the brain and can activate the release of feel-good hormones like endorphins, dopamine, and natural painkillers.

“We are talking about a real biological process, not something you are just making up,” says Kaptchuk.

Researches have indicated that when patients are told they are receiving a drug that will ease pain, they respond twice as well as when they are given that drug secretly (through an IV or otherwise) — a fact that suggests a large portion of prescription drugs’ efficacy comes from the power of suggestion.

The placebo effect works even better when patients relate with a health care professional that is attentive and kindhearted, which are some of the qualities that alternative medicine practitioners are renowned for.

One study of 262 irritable bowel syndrome patients found that 61% of those who got placebo acupuncture along with a patient-practitioner relationship “augmented by warmth, attention, and confidence” for 6 weeks had significant symptom relief.

“The magnitude of effect was better than the best drug on the market, and it wasn’t even real acupuncture,” says Kaptchuk, author of the study.

Health / 5 Worst Foods For Type 2 Diabetes by jannydear(f): 2:40am On Mar 03, 2018
If you frequently monitor your blood glucose levels, you’ve perhaps detected that certain foods, especially those high in refined carbohydrates, causes blood sugars to rise. There are some foods that can be a quite dangerous to eat when it comes to stabilizing your blood glucose, especially patients with Type II diabetes.

Here are five foods that you should be extra careful of if you are trying to control your blood glucose:

White rice

This starchy food is a processed form of the grain that has been mostly stripped of its fibrous and protein-rich parts. It can be found in so many different dishes from across the globe that it may appear difficult to evade. White rice should only be consumed in modest portion and it should be combined with other foods that help to reduce the effects of simple carbohydrate on blood glucose.

Note that wild rice and brown rice are higher in fiber, helping to stabilize blood sugar levels, and contains several valuable nutrients that should be a part of a balanced diet. This can be a great alternative to white rice.
Pasta
Pasta contains refined carbohydrates and low protein and fat that causes blood sugars to increase off the charts. You don’t have to totally eliminate pasta to maintain healthy blood sugars, but you can avoid eating large amounts of pasta at once. Instead make it just a small course of a larger meal. Stick to a serving about the size of a closed fist and round out the meal with high-protein pairings like organic, grass-fed ground beef, ground turkey, or chicken and add a large serving of high-fiber, low-starchy vegetables like green salad or roasted broccoli. This combination can help alleviate some of the ill effects of high carbohydrates on your blood sugars.

Go for sauces made from plant-based foods like marinara, Pomodoro, or a garlic and olive oil sauce, which is best for your heart since it is high in unsaturated fat.

Candy
Candies like hard candies, gummy bears or Skittles, are mostly 100% simple sugar which causes blood sugar to soar sky-high. Eating candies regularly as a snack can be harmful to a diabetes management plan. When you have sugar cravings, try eating a piece of high-fiber fruit like berries, apple slices, or pears.

Instead go for chips made from whole grains like brown rice, lentils or quinoa. Avoid eating chips by themselves and try pairing with a high-protein or fibrous dip like Greek yogurt chip dip or bean dip for a more a balanced snack choice.

Pets / Loyal Dog Treks To Train Station Every Night For Months In Search Of Owner by jannydear(f): 7:00pm On Mar 02, 2018
This heartbreaking news reminds me of the movie; Hachiko, starring Richard Gere. What could be more heartbreaking than a loyal dog, abandoned or lost and searching for its owner?

The dog, a new mother of four puppies, has been seen running amongst the trains at Kanjurmarg Railway Station in Mumbai, India, since Jan. 2. According to National Geographic, the dog specifically waits for the Kalyan-bound train on Platform 1, which arrives nightly around 11 p.m., then chases after the women’s coach, peeking into doorways and scanning windows in search of something — or someone.

Sameer Thorat, an IT specialist, posted the video to Youtube on Feb. 21, with the message;

“I spotted the dog while returning from work. The way it waits for the late-night trains and tries to [peek] inside the ladies coach, it seems it is searching for a particular person who either fed it regularly or [left] it behind. I guess someone has left her.”

Thorat commutes to work daily between 3 p.m. and midnight. He claims he began seeing the dog about two weeks ago. A dog lover himself, the man was hoping that posting footage of the pooch on social media would help the stray or maybe unearth the reason why she regularly awaits the train. Thus far, the clip has brought attention to the dog’s situation from other worried commuters and dog-lovers, who found she also has a litter of puppies, less than two weeks old.

“We are not moving her from that place because the puppies are very small,” Thorat says. “Their eyes are not open yet.”

Concerned animal lovers are now watching after the dog and looking into getting her puppies adopted. According to Thorat, he suspects her owner may have abandoned her upon discovering she was pregnant.

Karen Overall, a canine behavior expert at the University of Pennslyvania, tells National Geographic says the dog has a determined attitude.

“This dog is an optimist,” Karen Overall, a. “It’s interesting that this dog would have a relationship with someone that is so strong that she would still look [for her].”

Overall believes the person the dog is looking for may have moved or died. She thinks it will probably keep waiting for the runaway owner or friend, craving the loving kindness and bond that results from a unique relationship between a human and a dog. Watch video below;
