Health / How To Use Electric Toothbrush Properly by jannydear(f): 3:16pm On Dec 29, 2019
Everybody yearns to display dazzling set of sparkling white teeth whenever they smile, laugh, or talk. Most individuals are now opting for electric toothbrush instead of the conventional manual type.

However, it isn’t about buying an expensive electric toothbrush, you must know how to use it properly to see positive results.

A dental hygienist at Curaden Dental Clinic, Theodora Little, stated that most people are not using their electric toothbrushes effectually.

According to Theodora, most people brush their teeth twice daily, but aren’t doing it properly. This is probably because they are yet to be exposed to the proper way of using electric toothbrush.

‘You can make the most of your oral hygiene by adopting the correct technique,’ Theodora said.

According to Theodora, imagine your mouth in four parts:

top left
top right
bottom left
bottom right

This can better be described as:

The front of your teeth
The back of your teeth
The chewing surfaces of your teeth
The tongue and roof of your mouth

To use electric toothbrush properly, you have to be spending at least 30 seconds on each part. Most electric toothbrushes, particularly those from Oral B and Phillips are now constructed with in-built timers. This can help you spend the recommended time brushing each part of your teeth properly. Alternatively, placing a digital clock in your bathroom can also do the trick.

How to Use Electric Toothbrush Properly
The actual position you place your electric toothbrush head is vital. Ensure you place the head of your electric toothbrush at a 450 angle to the gum line. Make sure the bristles are in contact with the surface of the teeth and the gum line. This is the best way on how to use electric toothbrush properly.

Brush along the front of the teeth and gum lines on each of the four parts of sectors of your teeth. Also brush the back and then the biting surfaces and your tongue should come last.

You aren’t supposed to scrub your teeth with an electric toothbrush. Instead, hold it in place for 30 seconds before gliding to the next tooth. Just hold the electric toothbrush in place and allow it do the work for you.

When you are done with brushing your teeth, direct the brush head along your gum line and on your gums to get rid of any leftover plaque. Avoid applying pressure when brushing your gums so as not to trigger any form of irritation.

To round up your brushing, gently clean your tongue and the roof of your mouth with the electric toothbrush to get rid of any remaining food particles and to refresh your breath and eliminate mouth odor.

Avoid applying much pressure to your teeth when using the electric toothbrush. Instead, apply just a mild pressure to the tooth. Applying extreme pressure can lead to loss of tooth surface and gum recession.

Benefits of Electric Toothbrush
The benefits of electric toothbrush cannot be overemphasized. While manual toothbrushes can go roughly three hundred strokes per minute, an electric toothbrush can do thousands of strokes still per minute.

According to a review which examined 29 different research works and compared the efficacy of manual toothbrushes to electric toothbrushes, it was found that electric toothbrushes where better at getting rid of plaque buildup and gingivitis compared to manual toothbrushes.

Though everyone can enjoy the benefits of using electric toothbrushes, but electric toothbrushes can be mostly effective for:

People with braces. People with braces can enjoy the benefits of using electric toothbrushes because it can effectively clean behind and around the braces. The small heads that comes with electric toothbrush makes it easy for them to reach concealed spots.
People with hand problems. With little or no effort, you can effectively brush your teeth with electric toothbrushes. Hence helping you clean your teeth efficiently.
Young children. Electric toothbrushes is also ideal for young children who are still developing their brushing technique. Most children enjoy using electric toothbrushes compared to the manual type, hence curbing the problem of parents coercing their kids to brush before bed or before breakfast.
People with lot of tartar buildup. Unhealthy dental hygiene can lead to tartar buildup. An electric toothbrush can help improve your brushing technique, and keep your teeth tartar-free and clean.

Romance / How To Tell Your Boyfriend You Love Him by jannydear(f): 10:46am On Dec 17, 2019
As men are different, so are their wants and desires. The kind of affection one man will appreciate may be disregarded by another. So, it can be somewhat hard to show love to your boyfriend since you may not be aware to what they’ll appreciate.

However, there are general ways you can reconnoiter on how to show love to your boyfriend.

How to Tell Your Boyfriend You Love Him
Spell it out

You can show your boyfriend how much you love him by boldly putting it in a written form. Spell out your love for him either in a letter, email, or text message a few times per day. However, avoid overdoing it or you’ll just seem weird.

You should know something he loves, do it
If you have been dating for a while, at least you should know things he loves. You can further buttress your love for him not just in a written form, but by acting on it. You can arrange to do one of his best hobbies or anything he really loves to do but haven’t been able to do due to some reasons. Preferably, it could be an activity that both of you can partake in. If it is something you derive no fun from, then you can arrange with his friends who also love such hobby and make it a surprise.

Hug and Kiss him when he least expects it
Hugs, pecks, and unexpected kisses goes a long way to prove your undying love for your boyfriend. You can sneak in a quick peck or kiss when he is sitting with his laptop, watching the TV, or doing some other activity. For more effect, make it at a time when he least expects.

Cook his favorite meals
Cooking your boyfriend’s favorite meals may seem so simple, but it is a direct and effective display of love and affection you feel for your boyfriend. You could quickly prepare and pack a lunch for him when he’s embarking on a trip. He’ll greatly appreciate it. It’s also a guaranteed way to remind him about you, particularly when you’re not there. You don’t have to be too elaborate in preparing his meals, just a simple food will do. Don’t forget, ‘The fastest way to a man’s heart is his stomach,’ just as the saying goes.

Be His BFF
There are so many things you can do to be his best friend. He should be able to listen attentively when he expresses himself. He should be able to confide in you. You should be nearby when he is overwhelmed by emotions. You should help him, trust him, believe in him and his dreams, the list is endless. Doing these things will make him feel loved, understood, appreciated and important other.

Compliment him sincerely
Learn to compliment him sincerely. Appreciate the way he smiles or walks. Appreciate the way he makes you feel so special above everyone else. Throw in a “I love you” occasionally to express your admiration for him. If you love the smell of his perfume, tell him. If you love his new haircut, don’t hesitate to tell him. Always compliment him, and ensure it is a sincere compliment.

Allow Him Vent
Venting entails discarding your emotions or sentiments just as a release. Men love unloading about some challenging situations they are facing to their significant other. Let you boyfriend vent out his anger, stress, and frustration. You may not be able to totally solve his problem, but you can put in a word or two that will be helpful to the condition he is facing. You can say, “Don’t worry sweetheart, everything’s going to be okay.”

Be full of fun
Whether you guys are just starting out or you’ve been together a long time, try going on fun dates together. Ensure your boyfriend gets your full attention when on dates or vacations. Treat every date with him as a first date and he’ll love you more. Make every time you spend together a memorable one. Couples who have been together for years may not be as playful as they used to. Don’t allow this to be the case, think back on how you used to spend your early days together, and try replicating those times.

Give Him Gifts
Appreciate your boyfriend with gifts on occasional basis. It doesn’t have to be something expensive, at least it should be something you can comfortably afford. It should also be something he would love, or something he wants but won’t get for himself. You can give him a gift that represents him or a part of his character. It can even be tickets to events he had always wanted to attend.

Allow him take charge
Allow your boyfriend be in control and take charge of the relationship. It gives him a sense of complete machismo. A simple gesture of handing over the TV’s remote to him may not seem so simple, particularly when your favorite show is ongoing. Allowing him to take control at that times shows to him just how much you value him. He’ll be sure to reciprocate the gestures.

Allow him hang out with friends
No matter how much your boyfriend loves and cherishes your company, he’ll also want to hang out with his buddies. You don’t have to be overly insecure, it would just put him off. As his girlfriend, you have to support his friendship, get to know his friends too. It is easy for you to learn a lot about your boyfriend through the type of friends he keeps.

Plan a Surprise for Him
You can plan a surprise for your boyfriend using what he is always talking about. It could be a romantic vacation, family party, golf trip, or even a surprise birthday party when he least expects it. Your boyfriend will truly value you when he sees how much time and effort you’ve invested in seeing that surprise become a reality.

The bottom line
Everyone expresses the love they feel for their significant other differently. Try a few diverse approaches of expressing your love to your boyfriend and see which ones he responds to the most.

You can compliment his abilities or qualities, listen when he talks about his day at work, and tell him sincerely how much you love him. Another way to know how to show your boyfriend love is to think of all the nice things he has done for you. Reminiscing on all those things will give you a clue on how to express love to your boyfriend and have him reciprocate your love.

Though you can express love to your boyfriend in many ways, but in case of intimacy, if you are not ready for it, you don’t have to indulge in it just to show him love. It has to come from your heart because it is an unfathomable way of displaying love, but it shouldn’t be forced or cajoled act.

Kidney infections in dogs, just like in humans, may be deadly if left untreated for long. Kidney infection in dogs arises when bacteria gains access to the kidney by entering through the urinary tract, urethra, and bladder.

This article discusses in details the

Causes of kidney infection in dogs
Signs of kidney infection in dogs
Treatment of kidney infections in dogs

Causes of Kidney infection in Dogs
There are different causes of kidney infection in dogs, other than bacterial infection. Kidney infection in dogs can be caused by:

Parasites
Kidney stones
Weakened immune system
Imbalances of water in urine
Age
Kidney dysfunction
Also infectious diseases which is introduced into the system of a canine through consuming polluted water or via open wounds, can lead to kidney infection.

Kidney infection in dogs can also be caused by your dog consuming contaminated foods including uncooked fish, infected frogs, or even digging up and eating earthworms. This can cause your dog to become infected with kidney worms. Kidney worms that affect dogs are of two types: Capillaria plica and Dioctophyma renale. Though most dogs and other pets are rarely affected by these worms.

Signs of Kidney Infection in Dogs
At the initial stage of infection, the signs of kidney infection in dogs mostly go unnoticed. However, as the infection progresses, it begins to affect the function of the kidney. When signs of kidney infection in dogs finally become obvious, the infection may have deteriorated to an advanced stage.

Some signs of kidney infection in dogs includes:

Loss of appetite
Fever
Urinating excessively
Difficulty passing out urine
Weight loss
Excessive thirst
Blood in urine
Urine with an unusual color
Urine with foul odor
Bend forward
Lethargy
Vomiting
Pain in the side or abdomen

As the infection progresses, sepsis or renal failure, which are two deadly conditions may occur.

It is advisable to consult a vet immediately you notice the listed signs of kidney infection in your dog. Note that some of the signs may mimic other conditions, the more reason why you should see your vet for accurate diagnosis, so that the right treatment can be administered.

Kidney stones in dogs also cause similar symptoms as kidney infection. Kidney stones may also lead to kidney infection.

Signs of Kidney failure in dogs
The signs of kidney failure in dogs is worse than kidney infection. At the early stage, kidney failure in dogs may include all of the above symptoms and might also include the following:

Ulcers in mouth
Diarrhea or constipation
Bad breath
Blindness
Seizures
Coma

Treatment for Kidney Infection in Dogs
Your vet will prescribe antibiotics for the treatment for kidney infections in dogs.

When the urine test results from your dog confirms that bacteria is causing the symptoms. Surgery may be required if you’re the bacteria causes a form of barrier in the urinary tract.

For cases of kidney stones, your vet will use a shock wave treatment to break them down into tiny bits that can easily be excreted with urine.

If worms are causing the symptoms, your vet may remove them using surgery. If the kidney has been greatly impaired by the infection, it may require the entire removal of the affected kidney.

If the kidney indicates signs of failure, the organ may have to be extracted too. One kidney that is working effectively can still sustain your dog. However, keep your dog under close scrutiny. Consult your doctor for healthy foods you can feed your dog with after a kidney surgery.

Can a dog recover from kidney failure?
No, dogs cannot recover from kidney failure. Most dogs with kidney failure sadly live for just several days. High rate of survival depends on detecting the disease at its early stage and treating it on time. Treatment involves administering fluid therapy via vein and medications.

Health / Do Menstrual Pads Cause Cervical Cancer? by jannydear(f): 1:33pm On Dec 13, 2019
Is there a slight possibility that the use of menstrual pads can cause cervical cancer? This is the question on the minds of most people, particularly the womenfolk.

However, there is no scientific research that proves using menstrual pads can lead to cervical cancer. This is just a gossip borne out of ignorance. These unsubstantiated rumors can be harmful because it can mislead some women to stop using menstrual pads and to start using some other harmful materials during their period.

Sanitary pads do not cause cervical cancer and there is no scientific data, research or proof available that can validate this assertion, said gynaecologist Dr Ragini Agrawal.

Dr Ragini explained that there are no likelihoods that using sanitary napkins can cause cervical cancer. Sanitary pads usage can only cause contact dermatitis, which leads to vaginal itching and irritations. Contact dermatitis that arises from the use of menstrual pads is triggered by the plastic content used during the production process. Fumes that are released by these napkins can trigger allergies and irritations. Moreover, prolonged used of sanitary pads for over 8 hours without changing it can lead to vaginal infections.

Dr. Ragini buttresses that sanitary pads do not cause cervical cancer, adding that there is no relation between cervical cancer and sanitary napkins.

“These things are spreading so much because of lot of information is twisted. For instance, the synthetic sanitary pads can be challenging for women. And these problems exaggerated to such a degree that they end being cancerous as well,” the doctor explains.

“Sanitary napkins do not cause cervical cancer,” she added.

Dr Ragini explains that the main cause of cervical cancer is human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a viral infection caused by engaging in unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sexual intercourse. Among the various types of cancers, cervical cancer is the only kind of cancer which can be prevented by early detection and treatment.

Ways to prevent cervical cancer
Dr. Ragini stated that the poor lifestyle habits of some women is the main cause cancer has spread so much across the entire globe.

Inactive lifestyle that is devoid of physical activity and the introduction of artificial vaginal products that contains plastic in the market are the main reasons why cancer has spread so much. Plastic is extremely harmful for our health. Warming food in plastic utensils or putting warm food in plastic containers causes the food to become carcinogenic.

Dr. Ragini warned that people should use glassware whenever they want to warm foods in the microwave. Also, processed food is awfully cancerous. They intensify levels of oxidated radicals in the body and make you susceptible to risks of developing cancer.

So, it is best to change every unhealthy lifestyle and go for medical examinations on time to detect any form of cancer at its early stage for easier prevention or treatment.

Different women will want to know the early signs of pregnancy before a missed period for different reasons.

For women who don’t want to get pregnant, knowing the early signs of pregnancy can help them address the issue of unwanted pregnancy.

For women who are trying to conceive, the time they have to wait from their last ovulation to when their next period is expected to arrive (if they weren’t able to achieve pregnancy), is like forever. So, most of them will want to know the early signs of pregnancy before a missed period, so as to check against the symptoms they may be experiencing.

However, the most certain way of knowing if you are pregnant is to take a home pregnancy test, get a blood test or an ultrasound.

Though, there are certain symptoms that could point to early signs of pregnancy before a missed period.

In this article, we discuss:

Early signs of pregnancy before a missed period
Early signs of pregnancy discharge
Early signs of pregnancy cramping
Early signs of pregnancy (1 week)
Early signs of pregnancy gas

Difference between early pregnancy signs and PMS
Early signs of pregnancy before missed period
Some early pregnancy signs often mimic PMS symptoms. However, there are some distinctive signs of early pregnancy that occurs long before you miss your next menstrual flow.

Implantation bleeding
Implantation bleeding, which usually occurs between 7 and 14 days, is caused by the embryo attaching itself to the uterus lining. Implantation bleeding is a form of light spotting which may be experienced about 10 to 14 days after conception.

In most cases, implantation bleeding usually occurs about 7 days before your expected period and may last between 1 and 3 days.

Breasts sensitivity
Breasts soreness, ache, or sensitivity is another early sign of pregnancy before a missed period. Early pregnancy signs may cause your breasts to be fuller, heavier, and sensitive to touch, as your body releases hormones that prepare for the development of your child. Breast sensitivity is usually triggered by the rise in levels of progesterone in the body.

Bloating
Another early signs of pregnancy before a missed period is bloating or gas. This is usually caused by the hormonal changes which makes your digestive system to slow down. Some women may also experience constipation.

Frequent urination
As your body prepares to accommodate your growing fetus, there’s usually an increase in the amount of blood it pumps, triggering the kidneys to process more fluid that it should. As a result pregnant women tends to urinate more. So, frequent urination is also an early sign of pregnancy before a missed period. This symptom can kick off as early as two weeks after implantation in some cases.

Fatigue
Hormonal changes can cause your blood sugar and blood pressure to decline during this period, leading to fatigue or exhaustion.

Nausea
Among the early signs of pregnancy before a missed period is nausea. Though you may feel nauseous before a missed period, the sign is mostly experienced during the fourth and sixth weeks of pregnancy.

Cervical mucus
Early pregnancy signs before a missed period comes with a telltale vaginal discharge. You may notice an increase in vaginal discharge which may be sticky, white, or pale yellow during early pregnancy. Changes in cervical mucus is caused by an increase in hormones and vaginal blood flow.

Basal body temperature
During early pregnancy, your basal body temperature (BBT) usually increase for about 18 days after ovulation. BBT is your temperature when you’re at rest, which is usually measured first in the morning immediately you wake up.

Darkening areolas
The area around your nipples are called your areolas. This area may darken as early as one to two weeks after conception. Some women who are observant and know the form of their areolas will notice darkening of this area is an early sign of pregnancy.

Early signs of pregnancy discharge
A normal vaginal discharge outside pregnancy is clear, thin, milky white, and mild smelling. An early pregnancy signs that accompanies vaginal discharge is an increase in volume of vaginal discharge. This discharge may continue throughout pregnancy in some women. Changes in vaginal discharge can be experienced as early as one to two weeks after conception, before a missed period. The early signs of pregnancy discharge may become more apparent and heavy at the end of your pregnancy. You can wear an unscented panty liner to hold the discharge and avoid getting your clothes stained.

The wall of the cervix and vagina will usually soften as the body produces excess discharge to keep infections at bay.

Early signs of pregnancy cramping
Early signs of pregnancy cramping may be linked to implantation.

Implantation cramping is mild pain that is experienced by some women when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterus lining. This can result to mild cramping. Women who wish to conceive should avoid taking aspirin and some anti-inflammatory medications around this period as it might increase the risk of miscarriage, according to findings.

Early signs of pregnancy cramping may be also linked to menstruation signs. However, there are other symptoms of early pregnancy that occurs with implantation cramping. They include:

nausea and vomiting
extreme exhaustion
breasts that feels heavy, tender, and swollen
constipation
feeling sick or vomiting
missed period
food aversions or cravings
headaches
mood swings
feeling tearful
dizziness or faintness
raised body temperature

Early signs of pregnancy gas
A woman can experience gassy stomach and bloating even when she isn’t pregnant. However, when gas in the abdomen occur at the same time as undergoing a late or missed period, it may be indicate one of the early signs of pregnancy.

Early signs of pregnancy differs from woman to woman. A woman who is having her very first pregnancy can easily miss the gas and bloating sign. However, every person is different, and each may experience different symptoms. In some cases, experiencing gas with a missed period may point to an underlying cause.

A pregnant woman may not necessarily experience gas during the first weeks of pregnancy, but may it may show up at the later trimester. Many of these symptoms are also common in other conditions including PMS, ectopic pregnancy, polycystic ovary symptoms, ovarian cancer, and menopause.

Difference between pregnancy symptoms and PMS symptoms

It is very easy to mix up pregnancy symptoms with PMS symptoms. Some early signs of pregnancy such as bloating, breast tenderness, cramps, fatigue, and nausea can equally mimic PMS symptoms. However, if you’re really pregnant, there may be some revealing signs that it’s not PMS. One of such early signs of pregnancy to distinguish from PMS is implantation bleeding.

When to take a pregnancy test
If you are not sure whether you are pregnant or not, then wait for at least one to two weeks after you have sex to take a home pregnancy test. During this time, the test will detect levels of a hormone produced during pregnancy called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Taking the test earlier than this may not reveal the hCG. It may even be best to wait for at least one week after a missed period to take the test.

The bottom line

The early signs and symptoms of pregnancy vary for everyone and are quite similar to premenopausal syndrome. If you are uncertain of these signs, it would be best to do a home pregnancy test. Home pregnancy test may not be completely reliable because there are cases where women get a false-positive or false-negative results. You can confirm your results by getting a blood test or urine pregnancy test.

Health / New HIV Strain Discovered By Scientists by jannydear(f): 6:28am On Dec 11, 2019
A new strain of Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV has been discovered by scientists for the first time in two decades, according to a report published in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes.

The HIV has two types before now called HIV 1 and HIV 2. Each of these two types has several groups and strains. The group of researchers from Abbott laboratories and the University of Missouri, Kansas City, reports that the new strain belongs to the HIV-1 group M subtype L. HIV-1 is the most common type that affects people globally.

It is essential to identify specific strains of HIV because the virus is continually altering its form and changing. Some HIV strains grow and multiply rapidly and are transmitted more effortlessly compared to others. Identifying these new strains of HIV is vital to make certain that tests identify the disease correctly.

According to Chicago Tribune, the strain was collected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the 1980s. However, only two samples were existing and three samples are necessary to detect a new form of the HIV virus. In 2001, scientists were able to identify a model similar to the first two, but they weren’t able to study the strain since the quantity of the sample was too trivial. Nevertheless, scientists were able to classify the new HIV strain in 2018 with the use of a new technology.

This new HIV strain can be treated with the present HIV treatments. So, it may not probably be a public health crisis. Though the research team noted that it is necessary to continue observing the new HIV strain.

Study co-author, Dr. Carole McArthur of the University of Missouri, Kansas City, in a statement said:

“This discovery reminds us that to end the HIV pandemic, we must continue to out think this constantly changing virus and use the newest innovations in technology and resources to monitor its progression”.

However, these intestinal issues can also be experienced in the later stages of HIV infection, which is typically as the consequence of an opportunistic infection. Drink lots of water and fluid to stay hydrated. One major sign to know your diarrhea is triggered by an HIV infection is if it refuses to respond to the normal treatment.

Swollen lymph nodes, achy muscles and joint pain
Swollen lymph nodes, joint pains, and achy muscles are also early signs of HIV infection. Your immune system also comprises of lymph nodes, which helps protect your blood by eliminating bacteria and viruses. An infection can cause your lymph nodes to become swollen. Lymph nodes can be found in your neck, armpit, and groin. You can feel pains in these parts of your body when there’s an infection.

Sore throat and dry cough
Sore throat, accompanied by dry cough, are also early signs of HIV infection. A persistent dry cough that lasts months without appearing to resolve even with intake of antibiotics and inhalers may point to HIV infection.

Night sweats
Most people with HIV infection will experience night sweats at the early stages of the infection even in freezing weather conditions. Night sweats can also be experienced during the late stages of the infection.

Skin rash
Skin rashes is also one of the signs of HIV which can occur at the early or late stages of HIV. HIV rash can look like itchy boils with pink breakouts.

Infections
As the HIV infection destroys the body’s immune system, it renders it incapable of eliminating opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis, pneumonia, candidiasis (vaginal, oral), and yeast infections

For men and women with HIV, infections may occur at different parts of the body including brain, lungs, skin, digestive tract, skin, and eyes.

Early Signs of HIV Infection in Men
According to statistics, more men in the United States are living with HIV compared to women. People with HIV can live long healthy lives without spreading the virus to others using antiretroviral medication.

The early signs of HIV infection in men are mostly mistaken for flu or other mild condition. People may easily underestimate them or mistake them for minor health conditions.

Some few days or weeks after a male has been exposed to HIV virus, he may experience flu-like signs including:

Headaches
Tiredness or lethargy
Fever
Sore throat
Skin rash
As the infection progresses but still at the early stage, men may experience weight loss and dementia.

As the viral load increases, some other signs of HIV begin to show up. Some less common early symptoms of HIV may include:

Sore muscles
Mouth ulcers
Joint pain
Swollen lymph nodes
Genital ulcer
Night sweat

Nausea or vomiting
These early signs of HIV infection in men can be underrated as mistaken for a milder condition. Delaying to get tested or see a doctor can increase the viral load, thereby worsening the symptoms of HIV as the infection progresses. This may be one reason why the HIV infection is more common in men than women.

HIV Test for Men
Sexually active males are expected to get tested for HIV at least 3-4 times in a year. According to CDC recommendation, everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should get tested for HIV.

What are the First Signs of HIV in Female?
There are some early signs of HIV infection that is common to both males and females. These common symptoms includes:

Flu-like symptoms like fever, headache, lethargy
Skin rashes and sores
Swollen lymph nodes
Night sweats

Other early signs of HIV that is only experienced by women include:

Menstrual changes
Menstrual changes is among some early signs of HIV in females. HIV infection can cause a woman’s period to be heavier or lighter than it used to be. In some cases, women with HIV infection may not even see their period, and if they do, they will experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that are severe.

Pelvic Inflammatory disease (PID)
Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection of the ovaries, uterus, and fallopian tube. Females with PID who also test positive to HIV may experience recurrent PID symptoms that is difficult to treat.

Advanced Signs of HIV/AIDS
As HIV infection advances, symptoms begin to deteriorate, particularly when an infected person is not on antiretroviral medication. Late signs of HIV infection include:

muscle aches
shortness of breath
diarrhea
weight loss
severe headache
joint pain
nausea and/or vomiting
chronic cough
difficulty swallowing

In advanced stages, symptoms of HIV may include:

mental confusion
short-term memory loss
coma
Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), is the last stage of HIV infection. At this stage, the CD4 of an infected person drops below 200 cells per cubic millimeter of blood. The body’s immune system is badly conceded, and is virtually unable to fight off infections.

A person may be exposed to high risks of developing certain cancers, including cervical cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and Kaposi sarcoma.

Bottom line
There is no cure for HIV. It is essential to spot HIV infection at its early stages so as to increase your chances of surviving the disease. This is why it is vital for everyone to get tested for HIV. The HIV test isn’t only for those who are sexually active, though these class of people are mostly at high risk. Even having sexual intercourse for the very first time in your life with an infected person automatically exposes you to the virus. Early detection of HIV saves life.

The intake of antiretroviral medications and attaining viral suppression will intensely cut down a person’s risk of developing opportunistic infections and help increase chances of living long, healthy lives.

It can take a very long time for tattoos to vanish
Some persons who haven’t undergone a tattoo laser removal before may feel the tattoos will just disappear after one session. Some persons report having seven or more sessions. The reason why tattoos take long to disappear is due to the fact that each time the tattoo undergoes the laser heat, particles are broken down and assimilated by the body’s immune system. You will then have to wait for about eight weeks for the regeneration period to elapse before going for another session. Then after the next session, the laser still breaks down new particles, and you will still have to wait again for another eight weeks. Therefore, people with green, red, and yellow tattoos need not worry because with PicoSure technology, you can remove all colours. However, it is essential to note that the denser your ink is, the more sessions you'll need to undergo.

You can opt to lighten ink
Some persons who wish to remove their tattoos but are unable to afford the cost of the multiple sessions can simple choose to lighten the ink to make it less visible and have some good cover-up work done.

There might be white patches or scars left behind
In some cases, removing your tattoos entirely may leave behind white patches or scars after the treatment. The risks may be greater when you are unfortunate enough to be treated by a quack. Though your skin pigment can be lightened.

Basic requirements after Tattoo laser removal
After your laser removal procedure, you may need things like bandages, aquaphor, and loose clothes that don’t come in contact with the tattoo. Also, it would help to apply a thin covering of antibiotic ointment or healing moisturizer thrice daily, or as recommended by your doctor.

Radiation can also be used to remove any cancerous cells that may still remain after treatment. For cancer that has metastasize to the boe, radiation can still be used. There are two types of radiation:

External radiation: This involves using a machine outside your body to direct rays at the cancer to destroy it.
Internal (brachytherapy) radiation: This involves your doctor placing small radioactive seeds into or near the cancer.
In some cases, a combination of both treatment is used for effective results.

Proton Beam Radiation
This is another prostate cancer treatment that is used on cancers that hasn’t spread to other organs. Proton beam radiation involves using radiation therapy with tiny particles to attack and destroy cancer cells.

Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy involves using drugs, either taken orally or intravenously to destroy cancer cells and shrink tumors. Using chemotherapy as a treatment for prostate cancer may be effective if the cancer cells hasn’t metastasize outside your prostate. Chemotherapy is also effective in cases where hormone therapy isn’t efficient.

Hormone Therapy
Hormone therapy for treating prostate cancer is also effective. The growth of prostate cancer cells is facilitated by testosterone. So, hormone therapy deprives the cancer cells from getting testosterone by depressing the levels of testosterone and other male hormones.

Things to Consider before Treating Prostate cancer
Ensure you work with your doctor to go for the cancer treatment option that is most suitable for you. Things you ought to consider before choosing a treatment include:

The risks. Discuss the risk of your chosen option with your doctor. You may decide to go for an option that is also suitable and comes with little or no risks.
The side effects. Ask your doctor about the possible side effects of the treatment after surgery and ways on how you can manage them.
Your age and overall health. Older men with severe health conditions may require urgent treatment.

Stages of Prostate Cancer Treatments
The stages of prostate cancer treatment depends on the following

The size of your tumor
How far it has spread
The chances of it coming back
After your doctor has established the stage of your prostate cancer, he can begin to map out a suitable treatment plan for you. It is always tasking to match your prostate cancer stage with the exact treatment. You may require a combination of different treatment approaches for desired results.

The stages of prostate cancer and treatment options may include:

Stage 1 Prostate Cancer Treatment
For the stage 1 of prostate cancer, the size of the cancer cell or tumor is still small and hasn’t grown outside your prostate. During the stage 1 prostate cancer, you have low levels of the PSA (prostate-specific antigen) and Gleason scores. A higher level of these lowers your chances of survival because it indicates your cancer has become more aggressive.

The PSA test measures the protein levels in your blood while the Gleason score is determined by your doctor examining your prostate tissue cells using a microscope.

For stage 1 prostate cancer treatment, the following treatment methods are available:

Active surveillance. This requires your doctor monitoring your PSA levels. A rise in those levels will indicate a growth and spread of your cancer. Your doctor can then alter the course of your treatment.
Radiation therapy. Radiation stops the growth and division of cells by using either the external radiation therapy or the internal radiation therapy.
Radical prostactectomy. This uses surgery to remove your prostate and some of the nearby tissue.
Ablation therapy. The Ablation treatment involves freezing or using high-intensity ultrasound to eliminate cancer cells.
Watchful waiting. Your doctor closely monitors your symptoms. Your doctor may pick this method for seniors with serious health complications.

Stage 2 Prostate cancer Treatment
For the stage 2 prostate cancer treatment, the cancer has expanded in size but hasn’t spread outside your prostate. You may have higher PSA levels and Gleason scores compared to stage 1.

Treatment for stage 2 prostate cancer may require surgery or radiation to stop cancer from spreading

Active surveillance. This stage is considered for seniors with health conditions.
Radiation therapy. Radiation therapy may be combined with hormone therapy to prevent your cancer cells from growing.
Radical prostatectomy may also be used for treating stage 2 prostate cancer.

Stage 3 Prostate cancer Treatment
For the stage 3 prostate cancer, the cancer has spread past your prostate, but hasn’t affected your prostate, rectum, lymph nodes, or proximate organs.

The options for stage 3 prostate cancer treatment includes:

External radiation with hormone therapy
External radiation with brachytherapy and hormone therapy
Radical prostatectomy combined with removal of your pelvic lymph nodes.
Radiation may come after surgery to destroy remaining cancer cells.

Stage 4 Prostate Cancer Treatment
The stage 4 prostate cancer treatment is the last stage of growth and spread of the cancer cells. At this stage, the cancer cells metastasize to the bladder, rectum, lymph nodes, organs, or bones. Treatment for stage 4 prostate cancer is very rare and quite difficult. However, treatments can be administered for longevity.

Options for stage 4 prostate cancer treatment may include:

Hormone therapy in combination with surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy
Surgery to relieve unpleasant symptoms
External radiation in combination with hormone therapy or without it
Chemotherapy, if usual treatments proves abortive and the cancer continues to grow. The drugs will shrink and reduce the growth of cancer cells.
Bisphosphonate drugs to help slow the growth of cancer in the bone and help prevent fractures.
Prostate cancer vaccine, sipuleucel-T (Provenge), to boosts your immune system so it can destroy cancer cells.

What if Your Prostate Cancer Returns after Treatment?
For cancer that returns after treatment, there may be follow-up treatments depending on where the cancer is positioned and which treatments options you’ve tried.

If after the cancer goes into remission and returns but is in your prostate, you may undergo surgery or radiation therapy. For those with radical prostatectomy, radiation may be suggested. If you had radiation, radical prostatectomy may be used.
Hormone therapy may be used for effective treatment. To relieve bone pain, external radiation therapy or IV radiation therapy or bisphosphonate drugs can be used.

Bottom line
When prostate cancer has gotten to a stage where it cannot be controlled, it means the cancer has reached the terminal stage. Advanced cancer may be hard to discuss, but you should freely discuss with your doctor about your worries. Patients with terminal cancer who are likely to live less than 6 months may want to consider a palliative care called hospice care, which is aimed at providing the best imaginable quality of life for patients who have a short time to live.

Can a Migraine Lasts a Week?
A migraine headache can last from 5 days to one week or even longer, depending on several factors ranging from hormonal to severe fundamental cause. Long-lasting migraines can be so debilitating that it affects your daily activities and even nighttime sleep.

Migraine can be hereditary, such that people having family member(s) with the condition are more prone to developing migraines. Also, women are more susceptible to having migraine headaches compared to men due to differences in hormones. Migraines can differ in length and severity from person to person, according to neurologist Alexander Mauskop, MD, director of the New York Headache Center in Manhattan.

Migraine length varies, most migraines last from roughly 4 hours to 72 hours or even longer. However, migraines may be far shorter in some persons.

The type of migraine a person is experiencing depends on how long the migraine will last.

Optical migraine is characterized by visual disturbances including zigzags, blind spots or blurred vision. It can last for about 1 – 2 hours and isn’t accompanied with any headache.

Classic migraines usually begins with a warning sign or aura and can be rather painful. It can last a day or two.

Common migraines do not have auras at the initial period, and the associated pain may be concentrated on one side. It can last for about three to five days.

Migraines that lasts for 5 days and longer is called status migrainous. This type of migraine headache requires immediate medical attention as it heightens a person’s risk of developing stroke, according to Mauskop.

Causes of Migraine Headaches

The main causes of migraine headaches are still vague, however, experts believe genetics and environmental factors are responsible. Also, changes in the brainstem and its relations with the trigeminal nerve & imbalances in brain chemicals may also be among causes of migraine headaches.

Some known triggers of migraine headache includes:

Weather changes
Physical factors such as intense physical exertion
Drinks like excess coffee and alcohol, particularly wine can trigger migraine attack.
Stress
Sensory stimuli like bright lights, sun, paint thinner, secondhand smoke, loud sounds, can induce migraines are also triggers of migraine headaches
Sleep fluctuations including insufficient night sleep, excess sleep, and jet lag can trigger migraines
Medications like oral contraceptives can also trigger migraines.
Foods including processed foods, aged cheeses and salty, including all other listed above can trigger migraine attack.
Hormonal changes in women

Is Migraine Curable?
Migraine headache has no cure. However, there are medications that can help treat, prevent, or ease symptoms. Avoiding some known triggers of migraine can also help you manage the condition.

There are available over-the-counter medicines that can help ease migraine-related symptoms. These drugs are mostly composed with ingredients like aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and caffeine. Exercise caution when taking OTC pain relievers because taking them wrongly can lead to dependency and rebound headaches. Check in with your doctor if you use OTC pain relievers more than three times a week or on daily basis. Your doctor can recommend a stronger drug to treat migraine symptoms.

Health / Diabetes Cause Bad Breath by jannydear(f): 10:13am On Nov 21, 2019
Does Diabetes Cause Bad Breath?
Bad bread, medically known as halitosis, can reveal a lot about our health. Our breath, particularly when bad, can suggest some health-related problems affecting us. When a person’s breath is fruity, it may indicate ketoacidosis (acute complication of diabetes). Conversely, bad breath that reeks of ammonia may point to kidney disease.

A foul, fruity mouth odor may point to anorexia nervosa. Also, other diseases, including lung cancer, liver disease, and asthma, all have characteristic odors that can be observed on breath.

Most doctors are able to use bad breath to diagnose diabetes, even before a proper test is conducted. A recent study found that infrared breath analyzers can effectively diagnose early stage prediabetes.

Causes of Bad breath in Diabetes
There are two main causes of diabetes-related bad breath. They include:
periodontal disease
high ketone levels in blood

Periodontal diseases
Periodontal diseases are gum-related diseases that occurs when bacteria attack the tissues and bone supporting your teeth. Inflammation caused by periodontal disease can spike blood sugar when it affects your metabolic rate, triggering a deterioration of diabetes symptoms. Periodontal diseases include gingivitis, mild periodontal and advanced periodontal.

Diabetes can cause periodontal diseases, which can worsen the condition for diabetics. A report assessed that every one in three diabetics will experience periodontal diseases. Some complications of diabetes are stroke and heart disease. Studies have equally connected these health conditions to periodontal disease.

One way diabetes is linked to bad breath is that diabetes can typically destroy blood vessels, and when these vessels are ruined, it causes a reduction in blood flow all over your body, including your gums. You gums becomes feeble and susceptible to infection since they aren’t receiving sufficient blood supply.

Another way diabetes cause bad breath is that, diabetes causes the levels of glucose in your mouth to increase, thereby encouraging the growth of bacteria, which results to bad breath. The body finds it difficult to prevent or get rid of infection when blood sugars are high, hence the gums are unable to heal, leading to periodontal disease and bad breath. Periodontal disease heals faster in people who don’t have diabetes.

Apart from bad breath, other symptoms of periodontal disease include receeding gums, bleeding gums, sensitive teeth, and tender gums.

Ketones
Ketones are produced when you are on a diet consisting of low carbohydrate and high protein. This is more common in people on ketogenic diet. The inability of your body to produce insulin means that your cells aren’t receiving fuel to meet daily activities. So, this causes your body to switch to the burning of fat for energy. Ketones are produced when your body burns fat instead of sugar for energy. These ketones accumulate in your blood and urine. Ketones can likewise be produced when you are on fasting.

Bad breath can also be caused by high levels of ketone in the body. Acetone is also a type of ketone used in the manufacture of nail polish. Your breath can take on a nail polish odor if the level of acetone in your body is high.

Extremely high levels of ketones can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis include:

high levels of blood glucose
fruity breath odor
frequent urination
abdominal discomfort
nausea and/or vomiting
difficulty breathing
confusion
Diabetic ketoacidosis is a KA is an unsafe condition, commonly linked to type 1 diabetics. Consult your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.

How to Control Diabetes-related Bad breath
Periodontitis is a common diabetes complication of diabetes. Follow the tips below to reduce degree of periodontal disease:

Drink lots of water and keep your mouth moist at all times. Bacteria flourish better when your mouth is dry.
Brush your teeth at least twice daily.
Your tongue is also a breeding place for bacteria, so ensure you brush or scrape your tongue daily.
Avoid tobacco smoking
Check your sugar levels regularly
You can stimulate saliva production using sugar-free mints or gum.
Make an appointment with your dentist regularly for dental checkup.
People who wear dentures should take them out at night, and ensure they fit properly.

Bottom line
Diabetes cause bad breath. However, other conditions can equally trigger bad breath. Those with diabetes, should take note of their mouth odor to avoid periodontitis and risks of ketoacidosis.

Health / Tests For Syphilis by jannydear(f): 1:55pm On Nov 20, 2019
To test for syphilis, a sample of your blood, body fluid, or tissue samples is extracted for examination in the laboratory. Syphilis tests helps to establish the presence of the disease. Syphilis test examines the samples for the syphilis-causing bacteria or germ.

The test for syphilis is done in stages, particularly if the initial test comes out positive.

If the initial test for syphilis displays syphilis signs, a second test is carried out to establish diagnosis a syphilis infection.

Test for syphilis may require you to give samples of your blood and cerebrospinal fluid for proper diagnosis.

Blood test for syphilis. Blood tests for syphilis helps to check for the manifestation of antibodies produced to combat syphilis infection. The antibodies to the syphilis bacteria can be dormant or a very long time in your body, so the test can be used to control a present or previous infection.

Cerebrospinal fluid. This test for syphilis can be carried out by extracting your cerebrospinal fluid sample using lumbar puncture procedure. This test for syphilis is mostly recommended for persons who show a nervous system problems of the disease.

Screening Tests for Syphilis
To screen for syphilis, the following tests are conducted:

Venereal disease research laboratory (VDRL) test. The VDRL test is a test for syphilis that examines blood or spinal fluid for an antibody that can be produced in people with the disease. This antibody isn’t precisely manufactured as a response to syphilis. So, it is likely for the test result to be “unusual” for other causes that may not likely be triggered by syphilis.

Rapid plasma reagin (RPR) test. The RPR test also examines your blood sample for syphilis antibodies.
Rapid immunochromatographic test. This test for syphilis studies the blood for antibodies that are explicit to syphilis.
Tests to confirm syphilis
Tests for syphilis used to establish a syphilis infection include:

Enzyme immunoassay (EIA) test. This test for syphilis examines the blood to detect syphilis antibodies. A positive EIA test should be established with VDRL or RPR tests.
Fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption (FTA-ABS) test. This test also scans the blood for antibodies. It can be used to identify syphilis excluding the first month after exposure. The test can be performed using blood sample or spinal fluid sample.

Treponema pallidum particle agglutination assay (TPPA). This is another test for syphilis that examines the blood for antibodies. The TPPA test is mostly used after an initial tests comes out positive for syphilis. This test isn’t conducted using spinal fluid, only on blood.

Darkfield microscopy. This test is mostly used at the early stage to detect syphilis. This test for syphilis examines a fluid sample or tissue sample from an open sore using a microscope. This test is used mainly to detect syphilis in an early stage.

Microhemagglutination assay (MHA-TP). The MHA-TP is used to confirm a syphilis infection after an initial test comes out positive.
If test results comes out positive, your doctor will notify you, so that you and your sexual partners can get treated to cut down the rate at which syphilis is spread.

Treatment for Syphilis
The treatment for syphilis at all stages of the infection is administered using antibiotic penicillin. Syphilis is a highly contagious sexually transmitted diseases that is spread via vaginal, anal, and oral sexual contact. Syphilis can destroy your immune system, exposing your body to high risks of getting HIV. Syphilis can be fatal enough to cause grave injury to your brain, nervous system, heart, and blood vessels, particularly if it is left untreated for long.

In severe cases, syphilis can result to total blindness, organ damage, paralysis, and even death. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted diseases, meaning there’s high chance of you passing on the virus your partner during sexual intercourse.

The treatment for syphilis is more effective if the disease is detected in its initial stage.

Syphilis cannot be treated with over-the-counter drugs or any form of home remedies. The antibiotic penicillin is the most recommended treatment for syphilis, particularly at the early stages of infection. Those who have been infected for less than a year may be given a shot of the penicillin injection for the virus to be eliminated from their system. However, for people who have had the infection more than a year, they may require more doses of the penicillin.

For pregnant women infected with syphilis, they should consult their doctor immediately for test and treatment. When pregnant women allow syphilis infection to go untreated, the disease can easily be transferred to child either through the birth canal or during breastfeeding. Penicillin can be administered to pregnant women, however there are some women who develop an allergy to penicillin during pregnancy. For this category of women, the doctor may administer special process to aid you tolerate the antibiotic.

In cases where the mother transfers syphilis to her fetus or newborn baby, it can lead to severe cases such as seizures, stillbirth, cataracts, birth defects, deafness, and infant death.

Side Effects of Syphilis Treatment

A person may experience some minor symptoms after being administered with the penicillin injection or taking other antibiotics to treat syphilis. Symptoms may include:

Headache
Nausea
Fever
Chills
Headaches
Joint or muscle pain
These symptoms should last for about 24 hours. At the end of the treatment, the antibiotics destroys the syphilis-causing bacteria and and inhibit any further complications. However, it may not be possible for the treatment for syphilis to undo any damage caused by the disease.

What to do After Syphilis Treatment
During the treatment for syphilis, ensure you complete the course of antibiotics medications even when symptoms disappear. A sample of your blood may be extracted to test if your body is properly responding to the antibiotics.

Ensure your sexual partner is tested for syphilis and treated accordingly to avoid a re-infection.

Getting treatment for syphilis doesn’t make your immune to contracting or spreading the disease again. This is why you should practice safe sex at all times.

Bottom line
Syphilis can be treated without any form of complication when it is captured at its early stages. An antibiotic medication called penicillin is administered to treat syphilis after test confirms you are infected with the disease.

Pregnant women and other groups of persons who have an allergy for penicillin are administered with other antibiotic medication or penicillin desensitization. People with syphilis disease at its early stage may only require a single shot of the penicillin. However, those with syphilis infection longer than a year may be given more doses.

After test and treatment for syphilis, you may have to equally be tested for HIV infection. Also, you will be advised by your doctor to avoid any form of sexual contact until the end of your treatment. It is advisable to undergo periodic blood tests to ensure you are responding properly to treatment. You may have to advise your sexual partners so they can be tested too to avoid a re-infection.

Health / How Much Kombucha Should You Drink? by jannydear(f): 4:51pm On Nov 19, 2019
Kombucha is a healthy fermented drink that is believed to originate from Japan or China. Kambucha, a sparkling probiotic drink, contains loads of health benefits including destroys bacteria, cuts down risks of heart attack, aids better digestion, reduces risk of cancer, manage type 1 diabetes, boosts immunity, and lots of other benefits.

Most people have frequently asked the quantity or amount of kombucha that is safe to drink in a day. Well, that depends on some factors including how much sugar was used in its preparation, they type of tea used, whether it was home-prepared or gotten from the store, mode of storage, medical condition that may be affected by sugar in kombucha, and others.

Kombucha is derived from fermented green tea or black tea. The main ingredients in kombucha are tea, yeast, and sugar. The fermentation process of kombucha is comparable to the production of kimchi and yogurt, but contains minute quantity of alcohol.

In this article, we discussed in details how much kombucha is safe for you to drink in a day, how often you should drink it, and who should drink or avoid kombucha. Is kombucha an alcoholic drink? This is a commonly asked question which we also discussed.

How Much Kombucha Should I Drink
How much kombucha should I drink in a day? This is one question that kombucha lovers always ask. Kombucha is just like every other drink, which is best consumed in moderation. Kombucha is healthful no doubt, but too much intake of everything is considered not healthy. The mode of kombucha preparation should also be considered. The way a store-bought kombucha is prepared may be different from an home-brewed one. This means that the way your system may react to a store-bought kombucha may be different from the way you react to the one you prepared at home.

Consuming a kombucha that is not well made may have negative side effects on you. This doesn’t necessarily mean that kombucha isn’t good for you, it just has to do with the poor method of preparation. Take for instance, drinking a kombucha that was brewed in a moldy cupboard may have negative reactions on you.

For beginners or if it’s your first time of taking kombucha, it is best you drink just a little quantity, say about 3 oz per day. Then proceed to drink equal amount of water to check how your body takes it. You can slightly increase the quantity by the next day to 5 oz per day. You can still increase the quantity if you like the way it makes you feel.

Note that no amount of drink irrespective of how healthy it is can compete with water. So, ensure you are drinking sufficient quantity of water to remain properly hydrated.

Does Kombucha Cause any Side effects?
Personally, I have been drinking kombucha almost every day, and I have never experienced any side-effects. I consume both the one I brewed at home and also the store-bought, and I haven’t noticed any form of adverse effects health-wise.

Kombucha may cause minor tummy aches or headaches, particularly for beginners. That is why it is advisable to start with little quantity and increase gradually over time. Some people claim they experience symptoms of detoxification, as the body allegedly gets rid of toxins from the system.

Is Kombucha an Alcoholic Drink?
Most people wish to know if kombucha is an alcoholic drink before they start drinking it. Kombucha is a fermented drink. The longer it ferments, the more trace elements of alcoholic contents it may likely contain. The amount of alcohol content is extremely trivial even when it is left to undergo fermentation for long. Home brewed kombucha may likely contain 2% alcohol by volume.

The alcohol content in kombucha depends on some factors including the brewer’s exclusive culture/SCOBY, ingredients and environment. Some SCOBYs may produce no trace of alcohol, irrespective of the duration you allow it to undergo fermentation. However, some SCOBYs with specific alcohol-producing yeasts may be more susceptible to generating alcohol.

Who Should Drink Kombucha and Who Should Avoid it?
For diabetes, it is best you consult your doctor before drinking kombucha. Though it is imperative to note that the sugar content in kombucha is lesser than some fruit juices. This may be one major reason why you should prepare your kombucha at home, as you would be able to know the quantity of sugar you added. Also, while kombucha is undergoing fermentation, the yeasts eats up most of the sugar, which is a good thing.

Those withdrawing from alcohol may avoid kombucha because even trace amounts of alcohol could trigger a craving. Conversely, there are still some people who prefer kombucha when recovering from alcohol as it helps to control cravings for beer or wine.

Those on medications may experience some side effects from drinking even the minutest quantity of alcohol like kombucha. Consult your doctor before drinking kombucha if you are on medication.

For children, parents can determine when to give kombucha to children. Some parents claim it helps children with upset stomach. It is best to avoid it giving your children if they show even the slightest indication of discomfort after drinking it.

The Muslim faith forbids kombucha due to its alcohol content, no matter how trivial.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women may abstain from drinking kombucha until the deliver their babies or stop breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before drinking kombucha if you are a breastfeeding mother.

Bottom line
So, how much kombucha should you consume? It is possible to consume excess of a good thing. Kombucha is a healthy drink to consume regularly, however, there is a point at which you should stop or limit frequency and quantity of consumption.

Health / Tuberculosis Vaccine by jannydear(f): 12:34pm On Nov 18, 2019
TB Vaccine (BCG)
Tuberculosis vaccine, also called Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is a vaccine administered for tuberculosis (TB) disease. The tuberculosis vaccine is mostly administered to children, however, it cannot totally protect people from contracting the disease.

Tuberculosis vaccine may be administered to people at high risk of developing TB infection. The tuberculosis vaccine can also be used to effectively treat bladder cancer and bladder tumors.

Tuberculosis is a deadly lung disease, it can affect equally affect other parts of the body apart from the lungs.
In this article, we discuss how tuberculosis vaccine can be administered to babies, children, adults, and health-care workers. We also discussed how tuberculosis vaccine is administered and the possible side-effects one can experience after taking the vaccine. Read on to find out all these and lots more on the tuberculosis vaccine.

Tuberculosis Vaccine for Babies
The tuberculosis vaccine, or BCG vaccine is recommended for babies who have reached 1 year and who are born in parts of the world were TB cases are prevalent. The tuberculosis vaccine is also recommended for babies whose parent or grandparent who was born in a country with high tuberculosis rate.

Tuberculosis Vaccine for Children
The BCG vaccination is also recommended for older children with an high risk of developing TB. The tuberculosis vaccine is administered to children who have come from nations with high levels of TB such as Southeast Asia, India, South America, Central America, Middle East, and Africa.

Tuberculosis vaccine is also given to children who have come into close contact with anyone who has been infected with the disease.

Some children may be constantly in close contact with adults who have tuberculosis disease. Tuberculosis vaccine should also be administered to children who haven’t been treated successfully for TB disease.

Tuberculosis vaccine should also be given to children who have TB disease triggered by strains resistant to isoniazid and rifampin.

Tuberculosis Vaccine for Health Care Workers
Tuberculosis vaccine for health-care workers including Doctors, Nurses, Lab technicians, and others in the health sector, should administered, particularly for those who work in hospitals with high number of tuberculosis patients.

Also, health care workers who work in facilities where there’s constant spread of TB strains resistant to drug (isoniazid and rifampin), should consider taking the BCG vaccine.

Health care workers in facilities where TB infection-control precautions haven’t been successfully implemented should also take tuberculosis vaccine.

Health care workers should be properly warned concerning the risks and benefits linked with both BCG vaccination and treatment.

Tuberculosis Vaccine for Adults
BCG vaccination for adults is rarely given to people who are over age 16 since treatment at this stage is mostly ineffective. However, adults who are within the ages 16 – 35, and who are exposed to tuberculosis infection because of their work or living environment, should consider taking the vaccine.

Tuberculosis Test for BCG-Vaccinated People
TB Skin test
Most people born outside the United States, have been given the BCG vaccine, especially at birth. For this class of people who have gotten an earlier BCG vaccine, they may undergo a TB skin test to check for TB infection. Vaccination with BCG may cause a positive reaction to a TB skin test. A positive reaction to a TB skin test may be triggered by the BCG vaccine or may be triggered by a TB bacteria infection.

TB blood tests (IGRAs)
TB blood tests (IGRAs), aren’t affected by an earlier BCG vaccination and are not likely to give a false-positive result in BCG- vaccinated people.

The TB skin test is mostly used for children under five, because a positive TB skin test or TB blood test only tells that a person has TB bacteria. However, it cannot tell whether the person has latent TB infection or has advanced to TB disease.

Apart from the blood test and the skin test, there are other tests including the sputum test, and the chest x-ray can be used to check whether the person has been infected with tuberculosis.

How is the Tuberculosis vaccine given?
The BCG vaccination is administered as an injection given in the upper arm. The shot may leave a small scar behind.

When is the BCG vaccination given?
The tuberculosis vaccine is given to babies shortly after birth, while the babies are still in the hospital. If the hospital cannot administer the BCG vaccine, then you should be referred to a local healthcare centre for vaccination immediately you leave the hospital with your baby.

How effective is Tuberculosis vaccination?
The tuberculosis vaccine is produced from a weakened TB bacteria strain. Since the bacteria in the vaccine is weak, it immediately activates the immune system to protect your body against the disease.

This gives good protection to people who receive it without actually causing the disease. The tuberculosis vaccine is about 80% effective against the most severe forms of TB, such as TB meningitis, which mostly affect children.

However, note that the tuberculosis vaccine may not be effective in inhibiting respiratory disease, which is the most common TB infection in adults.

Side effects of BCG Vaccine
The side effects of BCG vaccine may include:

fever
swollen lymph nodes
vomiting
Small red areas at shot site of injection which appears 10-14 days after injection and gradually reduces in size.
frequent or painful urination
upset stomach
blood in the urine
In severe cases you may experience wheezing, severe skin rash, and difficulty breathing and swallowing. Consult your doctor immediately you notice any of these symptoms after taking BCG vaccine.

Health / Oat Milk Recipe by jannydear(f): 9:55am On Nov 18, 2019
Oat milk has become the most sought-after vegan product, beating every other types of milk in terms of popularity. The recipe for oat milk is quite easy and takes very little or no effort to prepare in the comfort of your home. All you need is just your blender and two ingredients.

In this article, we show the recipe for oat milk and some facts to take into consideration when preparing oat milk. We also answered some commonly asked questions regarding oat milk recipe.

How to Make Oat Milk
Oat milk is purely rolled oats blended with water, then strained to leave the mash behind. The resulting liquid extracted is your creamy, smooth, and delicious oat milk.

The recipe for oat milk is basically oats and water. To prepare oat milk, add 1 cup rolled oats into a blender, then pour about 3 to 4 cups of water, depending on the size of your blender. Ensure you use a high-speed blender for best results. Blend the mixture for about 45 seconds at high speed. After blending, you can proceed to strain or sieve the mixture through a clean t-shirt for best results.

It may not be best to use nut milk bags or fine mesh strainers because it allows too much pulp or fleshy oat tissue to pass through. You can add the resultant creamy oat milk to your coffee, cereal, matcha, granola, and baked goods.

Your oat milk may separate when you keep the container standing. This is normal, just like other dairy-free milks. Simply shake the container properly before usage.

Things to Note on Oat Milk Recipe
Some persons complain of getting a resulting slimy oat milk after blending and sieving. So, you may want to know how to prepare your oat milk without it being too slimy:

Avoid blending your oat excessively or for long periods of time as it can cause it to be slimy. It is best to blend for about 30-45 seconds and not longer.
Avoid the habit of soaking your oats for some time before blending. The resulting milk is bound to be slimy. Simply get your dry oat, add water to it and blend for the stipulated period of time.
Some persons heat their oat milk before blending it, this would make the milk slimy, and you may not enjoy the taste.
It is best to strain or sieve the resulting oat milk twice to get rid of any excess starch that could lead to sliminess.
It is best to strain with a clean towel or clean t-shirt strictly reserved for this purpose. Using nut milk bags is not advisable as it allows too much oat pulp to pass through.
Is oat milk gluten-free?
Pure oats are gluten-free. However, you need to exercise caution when looking for gluten-free products because products like rye and barely are not gluten-free. Oat milk contains no dairy, nuts, or other common triggers of celiac disease. It is unlikely that a person with gluten sensitivity would react negatively to oat milk. Ensure you consult your doctor first before taking oat milk, particularly for people with celiac disease.

How long does oat milk last?
Oat milk lasts for about 5 days counting from the first day of preparation. Oat milk should be refrigerated and consumed within 5 days after preparation. So, it is best to prepare the quantity you can be able to completely consume within this period of time.

Can I use steel cut or quick oats to prepare oat milk?
Using steel cut oat may not be best because it is highly unprocessed. This may make the resulting oat milk to be less creamy than when you use the recommended rolled oats. Conversely, using quick cooking oats may not give you the desired oat milk because it is highly finely processed. Using quick oats may cause the resultant milk to be extremely slimy.

Oat milk recipe

1 cup rolled oats

Pets / Causes Of Frequent Urination In Dogs by jannydear(f): 1:37pm On Nov 15, 2019
Frequent urination in dogs can be quite a disturbing issue, particularly when your dog needs to go out every now and then to urinate. Your dog may even pass out urine on your upholstery or rug, which can be very unpleasant. The medical term for frequent urination in dogs is called pollakiuria.

In this article, we discussed the causes of frequent urination in dogs and what you should do when you notice your dog urinating more frequently than normal.

Causes of Frequent Urination in Dogs

The cause of frequent urination in dogs may be anomalies within the lower urinary tract. The lower urinary tract is made up of the bladder and urethra and diseases affecting these parts often causes frequent and urgent need for dogs to urinate, even when the bladder is barely full. Dogs may urinate frequently, but in small quantities per time.

The causes of frequent urination in dogs may include:

Bacterial infection within bladder
Presence of stones in bladder or urethra
Tumors or polyps within bladder or urethra

Apart from the factors listed above, another cause of frequent urination in dogs may be increased thirst, which may cause dogs to drink excess water. In this case, the bladder gets filled up fast and the quantity of the urine may be much.

READ ALSO: Why Dogs Behave the Way They Do

Since increased thirst is one cause of frequent urination in dogs, some factors may be responsible for causing a dog to lap water excessively. These include:

Urinary tract infection
Older age
Marking
Canine diabetes
Overheating and increased thirst
Spay incontinence

1. Urinary tract infection (UTI)

One major cause of frequent urination in dogs is urinary tract infection. Though male dogs are also affected by UTI, but the condition commonly affects older female dogs. Apart from frequent urination, other symptoms of UTI in dogs may include:

Blood in urine
Squatting for long before urine flows out
Whining indicating pain as they pass out urine

Urinary tract infection in dogs may be caused by the presence of bacteria in the urethra of the affected dog. Usually, a vet can prescribe antibiotics to treat UTI in dogs.

Age

Though the bladder size of dogs vary from one dog to another, but a healthy dog is expected to urinate once in every 4-6 hours. However, the frequency may be much for puppies under 5 months due to the fact they are still young and lack proper control of their bladder. However, as they grow older, they exercise better bladder control.

Though frequent urination, also called polyuria, can affect a dog as they begin to advance in age.

3. Marking

Marking is also included among the causes for frequent urination in dogs. Dogs are territorial animals, so your dog urinating frequenting, particular in a new environment, may be to establish a claim over the territory, using their urine of course. Most people cannot tell the difference between a urine marking and normal frequent urination. Urine marking or territoriality is short passing of urine for every few steps, while the urine flow for normal frequent urination is long and sustained.

4. Canine Diabetes

Among the causes of frequent urination in dogs is diabetes, precisely diabetes mellitus. Diabetes in dogs is caused by inability of the digestive system to properly convert food to energy. The dog has to consume more food because of low energy. Dogs with diabetes mellitus also tends to drink more water and urinate in same amount. Just like human diabetes, diabetes in dogs has no cure, but can be controlled with medication, diet, and exercise.

5. Overheating or increased thirst

Dogs tend to drink water excessively due to overheating, particularly when they stay outside for long during sunny period of the year. Overheating and increased thirst also causes frequent urination in dogs. Dogs don’t sweat like human, but they have sweat gland underneath their feet. Panting helps dogs to regulate their temperature, and they have to drink water to make up for fluid content lost via sweating. However, they will urinate frequently if they drink lots of water during cold weather or when they are in a climate-controlled environment.

6. Spay incontinence

Spay incontinence is medically known as urethral sphincter incompetence. It occurs when a spayed female dog has problems with controlling its bladder. Spay incontinence is another cause for frequent urination in dogs. When a dog’s back is stretched during the neutering, it may affect their bladder control later in life. Dogs sustaining back injuries can lead issues with bladder control.

Other causes of frequent urination in dogs include:

Kidney diseases such as chronic kidney disease or kidney infection
Hormonal imbalances
Older age
Diuretics
Liver disease
Pyometra: Infection of the uterus that affects dogs and cats
Certain medications including anti-seizure drugs
Products containing Cortisone
Diagnosing Frequent Urination in Dogs

To recognize signs of frequent urination in dogs, you would have to put your dog on close surveillance to watch out for signs like:

Always refilling water bowl more than normal
Bedside urine puddle when you wake in the morning
Frequent urge to urinate during walks
Your dog always waking you up at night to go outside for a pee.

It is advisable to consult your vet immediately you notice symptoms of frequent urination in your dog. The vet may need to get a sample of your dog’s urine for testing.

Bottom line

It is considered normal for a dog to urinate at least every 4 to 6 hours. However, it becomes an issue if your dog has to urinate every now and then. If you aren’t sure of what is causing frequent urination in your dog, do well to carefully observe the number of times your dog urinates in a day and take note of the time difference between each urination. Also take note of the colour of your dog’s urine and note if it whines when urinating. Note also any changes in its eating habits. Doing this would help the vet carry out a proper diagnosis so the right medication can be administered.

READ ALSO: 7 Common Symptoms of Leukemia in Children

In this article, we extensively discussed the causes of frequent urination, and the possible home remedies and other forms of treatment to eliminate symptoms of frequent urination.

Causes of Frequent Urination in children
The causes of frequent urination in children may be dependent on the age of a child. For children within the 4-5 age bracket, frequent urination may be caused by:

An ailment
change in activities
Failure to use the toilet as at when they should
illness
For other ages, the causes of frequent urination in children may be:

excess intake of fizzy drinks or caffeine
constipation
anxiety
emotional upset
recurrent urinary tract infections
inability to recognize when bladder is full due to nerve damage
abstaining from completely clearing bladder
sleep apnea

The causes of frequent urination in children of other age group may be delay in growth and maturity. This is not always a cause for alarm because the issue of frequent urination normally resolves on its own as the child gets older.

It is possible for a child to purposely hold their urine, this is very wrong, and you ought to advise your child against this practice. When a child hold back urine instead of emptying bladder on time, it can have long-term consequences such as:

Recurrent urinary tract infection
Kidney damage
Inability to completely empty bladder
Increased urge and frequency to pass out urine
Urinary incontinence
Ensure you consult a doctor immediately if you notice issues of frequent urination in your child.

Symptoms of Frequent Urination in Children
Apart from frequent urge to urinate, there are other symptoms that may help doctors to diagnose a child’s overactive bladder condition. Normally, a child is supposed to use the bathroom at least 4 to 5 times daily. However, children with overactive bladder usually have a contracted bladder which stimulates the frequent urge to urinate, even when the bladder is scarcely full.

Frequent urination in children come with different signs and symptoms such as:

Frequent UTIs
Not passing out urine despite urge
Daytime accidents
Jumping from foot to foot, particularly when they wouldn’t tell you they have urge to urinate.
Leakage of urine when sneezing, coughing, belching, playing, or other forms of activities.

Bedwetting
Bedwetting is another cause for frequent urination in children. The medical term for bedwetting is nocturnal enuresis. Bed-wetting is a nocturnal occurrence that arises when children are unable to control their night-time urination. Simply put, bedwetting is the involuntary passing out of urine during sleep, particularly at night. Enuresis is the medical term for wetting in bed at night, it is also called urinary incontinence.

It is normal for infants and children younger than 4 to experience nocturnal enuresis. However, after age four, most children able to able to achieve some form of control over their bladder even at night.

Bedwetting may be controlled by several factors including:

Bedwetting commonly occurs in male children.
Maturity rate. The rate at which a child develops can affect bedwetting
Emotional health. Eemotional and physical abuse may influence bedwetting.
Chronic illness
Bedwetting Causes
Though bedwetting causes, particularly in adults may signify an underlying medical condition, most children who experience bedwetting have no causal ailment.

Bedwetting causes in children may include:

Inability of child to hold urine for the night.
Inability of the child to wake and use the toilet when bladder is full.
Child produces a large amount of urine during evening and night hours.
The child holds back or retains urine during daytime.
Excess intake of fluids during day and evening hours
Bedwetting is hereditary and runs in families, in most cases. Most bedwetting children have a parent who did, too.

Treating Frequent Urination in Children
Frequent urination in children normally resolves on its own as the child grows older in age and matures. After the age of 5, a child should be able to hold more urine in the bladder and they develop a better response to passing out urine at any time of the day, including the night time.

Also, the issue of frequent urination in children would be checked by the stability of an antidiuretic hormone which is responsible for producing urine.

Medications
A pediatrician may prescribe medications to help your child if frequent urination persists for longer than necessary. A laxative may be prescribed to ease constipation while an antibiotics may be administered to treat any urinary tract infection that is causing the frequent urination.

There are also medications like oxybutynin, to help relax the bladder of children, thereby decreasing the urge to frequently urinate.

Home Remedies for Frequent Urination in Children
Avoid giving your child drinks and food that contains caffeine because it can stimulate the bladder which can cause frequent urination in children.
Avoid punishing a child for bedwetting, instead reward them for every time they wake up dry. It would encourage them to build their control.
Serve bladder-friendly foods and drinks by giving your child foods that are good for the bladder such as diluted squash, pumpkin seeds, and cranberry juice to eliminate the cause of frequent urination in children.

The actual causes of frequent urination in children is not so serious, and it often resolves with time. However, you should consult your doctor if your child is having serious urination problems, particularly for children who are 7 years and older.

It may necessitate an older child undergoing voiding tests, which has to do with taking measurements of the volume of urine left after emptying bladder. Ultrasound may be performed to check the structural condition of the child’s bladder.

Health / Type 2 Diabetes: All You Need To Know by jannydear(f): 12:28pm On Nov 12, 2019
What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes is a protracted terminal ailment that affects the way your body processes glucose for your body. Insulin is a hormone responsible for controlling movement of sugar (glucose) into your cells. What type 2 diabetes does is to inhibit your body from properly expending insulin.

Type 2 diabetes either counterattacks insulin effects or it makes it unable to produce enough insulin to normalize proper level of glucose.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes
Best diet for type 2 diabetes
Treatment of type 2 diabetes
Preventing diabetes
Before a person is diagnosed with diabetes, there’s a condition called prediabetes which he or she may have been unaware of. Prediabetes occurs when a person’s level of blood glucose is not normal, but is not also high enough to trigger onset of diabetes. Prediabetes is the first stage leading to diabetes.

What are the Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes?
At the initial stage, the symptoms of type 2 diabetes often come on gradually. When they start to manifest, symptoms may include:

Frequent passing out of urine
Sores and wounds that heals slowly
Increased thirst
Recurrent infections
Involuntary weight loss
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Areas of darkened skin, usually in the armpits and neck
Increased hunger

What Causes Type 2 Diabetes?
When there’s difficulty for the pancreas to make sufficient insulin, or when the body develops insulin-resistance, it results to type 2 diabetes. Researchers are yet to establish what really triggers this, however they suspect genetics, obesity, and inactivity to be responsible.

READ ALSO: 5 Worst Foods For Type 2 Diabetes

Normally, the pancreas discharges insulin into the blood, and the insulin circulates, making it easy for sugar (glucose) to gain access into the cells. The Insulin function by lowering the quantity of sugar in your bloodstream. The insulin secretion dwindles as your blood sugar lowers too.

Conversely, your liver produces glucose apart from the glucose derived from food. When sugar gets into the bloodstream, insulin permits it to enter the body cells. Glucose is also stored and produced in the liver. When you are very hungry, it means your glucose level has dropped. This triggers the liver to break down the glycogen in its storage, just to maintain a normal glucose level.

However, this whole insulin and glucose activities doesn’t function in the system of people with type 2 diabetes. Glucose or sugar doesn’t move into body cells for type 2 diabetes, but it gathers in the bloodstream. Increase in blood sugar causes more insulin to be automatically released by the pancreas. Finally these cells become weakened and become incapable of makin enough insulin for the body.

Darkened skin areas. People with parts of darkened skin, such as in the armpits and neck hints at insulin resistance.
Although it’s vague why some race are more at risk of developing diabetes compared to other races. For instance, Hispanic, Blacks, American Indian and Asian-American people, have a high likelihood of develop type 2 diabetes compared to the Whites.
As a person gets older, usually from 45 and above, the risk of developing diabetes increases. Most people exercise little and add on weight as they age, this could be responsible for increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Pre-diabetes.Untreated pre-diabetes will progressively develop to diabetes in long run.

Health / Does Chewing Gum Cause Wrinkles To Appear? by jannydear(f): 1:07pm On Oct 29, 2019
Can Wrinkles Appear on Face Due to Gum Chewing?
Can constant chewing of gum really cause facial wrinkles to appear? Does chewing gum regularly have any side effect? These are the questions on the minds of lot of persons, particularly women who are obsessed with chewing gum. Some persons may not be a fan of gum chewing, but they simply chew it to keep and maintain fresh breath.

READ ALSO: See What Sweet Carbonated Drinks Do To The Body In Just One Hour

Researchers have claimed chewing gum on a regular basis can lead to muscular changes around the corners of your mouth, including skin-related changes. In this article, we examined the possible side effects of chewing gum and how it can cause wrinkles to appear on your face. Interestingly, chewing gum also has some benefits. Read on to find out.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Chewing Gum?
Experts claim chewing gum constantly exposes the skin around your face to early signs of aging including wrinkles and fine lines. Imogen Bexfield, the Medical Director of White Swan Aesthetics, said normal facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, or squinting over time, cause fine lines to become visible on your face, adding that chewing gum can sum it all by making the somewhat fine lines deeper and more pronounced. Chewing gum can cause fine lines and wrinkles to appear on and around the upper lip. Dr. Bexfield noted that chewing gum can only cause facial wrinkles if it is chewed excessively.

Experts have suggested that chewing gum has the tendency to change or alter the shape of your face. This is because the act of chewing widens the masseter, which is the muscles on both sides of your jaw that controls chewing.

READ ALSO: See What Happens In Your Stomach When You Swallow Chewing Gum (video)

According to specialists, extreme chewing can lead to a jaw issue called temporomandibular disorder, TMD, which can lead to extreme jaw pain and difficulty to chew, and even sleep at night. People with headaches and migraines tends to experience extreme pains when they chew gum.

Though chewing gum can cause the appearance of wrinkles, but it also has some benefits. Chewing gum causes an increase in the amount of blood flowing to the brain. An increase blood flow to the brain improves cognitive capacity and alertness. A 2002 study showed that participants who chewed gum during a test experienced a short-term memory improvement of 24 percent, and a long-term memory improvement of 36 percent.

Another study also proves that chewing gum can help ease the level of stress.

No doubt chewing gum helps to neutralize the effects of acids and sugar responsible for mouth odor by stimulating saliva production. However, chewing for extended period can lead to chips and micro cracks in your teeth. Also, your front teeth gets shorter over time when you chew regularly. You tend to look older when you have shorter front teeth.

Is Chewing Gum a Good Facial Exercise?
The loss of muscle tone on the face is mainly responsible for wrinkles formation and sagging facial skin. There are different kinds of facial exercises you can do to improve your facial muscle and eliminate wrinkles. Experts have claimed one of such exercise is to simply chew gum.

When you chew gum, you use four muscles namely

masseter
temporalis
lateral pterygoid
medial pterygoid

These muscles frame your cheek and lower jaw. Sagging and loss of muscle tone mostly begin in these muscles as a person advances in age. When you chew gum, it actually helps tone these muscles, making it a perfect facial exercise.

Engaging in other facial exercises like opening your mouth wide, keeping your eyebrows in a raised position, jutting your lower jaw, can draw attention to yourself, especially when you do them in public. However, the simple act of chewing gum can tone your facial muscles without necessarily attracting attention.

Chewing gum regularly can widen your face, giving you a well-defined jawline. However, for people who yearn for hollow and raised cheeks, chewing gum may not be your best option.

Does Chewing Tobacco Cause Wrinkles?
Chewing tobacco can cause the appearance of wrinkles and a condition called smokeless tobacco keratosis, according to studies.

Smokeless tobacco keratosis, also called snuff dipper’s lesion or tobacco pouch keratosis, is a disorder that causes the formation of thick white blotches on skin in your mouth. This condition causes the skin to be wrinkled or leather-like. The white patches in your mouth typically forms in spots where you hold smokeless tobacco in your mouth.

Examples of parts where smokeless tobacco keratosis may develop include:

gums
inner cheek
between teeth

Apart from chewing tobacco, other factors responsible for smokeless tobacco keratosis includes snuffing and dipping tobacco.

Most people with this disorder are unaware they have it because it isn’t associated with any symptoms. The condition is mostly discovered during a routine checkup by a dentist. Consult your dentist for proper dental examination if you use excessive smokeless tobacco. If left untreated, it can lead to oral cancer.

Bottom line
Chewing gum may have little or no side effects if you chew in moderation. Restrict your gum chewing to at least 2-3 sticks in a week. Habitual gum chewing can cause your teeth to chip. Also, avoid chewing gum for too long, you can chew for at least 15-20 minutes per time before spitting out the gum. Some persons are fond of swallowing gum after chewing. This is not advisable.
