Health / Your Urine May Help Detect Your Real Age by jannydear(f): 5:54am On Mar 02, 2018
A new study suggests that a simple urine test can actually reveal how old your body truly is.

The researchers reveal the test result can really show your biological and not chronological age, which can help determine your risk for age-related diseases and even death.

The test checks for a substance called a marker, which shows cellular damage from a process known as oxidation. The substance increases in urine as people grow older.

Study co-author Jian-Ping Cai, a researcher at the National Center of Gerontology at Beijing Hospital in China said;

“As we age, we undergo increasing oxidative damage, and so the levels of oxidative markers increase in our body.”

The researchers noted that people’s bodies age at different rates due to fluctuating amounts of cellular damage linked with such factors as hereditary, lifestyle and environment.

The researchers focused on an oxidation marker called 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanosine (8-oxoGsn). They measured levels of this marker in urine samples from more than 1,200 people in China, with ages ranging from 2 to 90. The age-related increases in the marker was discovered among those 21 and older.

In news release from the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, Cai stated that the urinary 8-oxoGsn is promising as a new marker of aging, adding that urinary 8-oxoGsn may mirror the real condition of our bodies better than our chronological age, thereby helping to detect diseases related to age.

Health / How To Balance Hormones Naturally To Boost Fertility by jannydear(f): 3:00am On Mar 02, 2018
Fluctuations in hormone may occur naturally, such as in puberty, menopause and perimenopause. Imbalances in hormone may also be caused by toxins or an unbalanced lifestyle. It is no longer news that millions of women globally suffer from hormonal imbalances in insulin, estrogen, cortisol and adrenaline.
Fortunately, there’s a slew of naturopathic remedies available to correct hormone imbalances and boost your chances of getting pregnant.
1. Eat Healthy Fats
Most people have been told to cut down on fat consumption and look trim. However, a diet devoid of fat may be hindering your ability to conceive.
Our bodies need different healthy fats to keep hormones well balanced. Fats are the building blocks of our body and without fats, hormone production is affected.
The body is unable to absorb some vital vitamins and minerals for production of hormone when fatty acids is missing in our diet.
Foods to avoid during pregnancy for women who are having trouble conceiving include those that are high in trans fats. Studies have shown that trans fats causes endometriosis which is one of the most common causes of infertility among women.
Avoid eating fried foods, margarine and certain types of chips and crackers. Instead eat fatty saltwater fish like tuna and salmon, coconut oil and avocados.
2. Balance the Intake of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fats
Researches have indicated that inflammation from dietary sources have increased rates of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, leaky gut syndrome, stress and depression. The body is unable to maintain a healthy fertile state when stress from cortisol increases and bodily processes suffer from irritating levels of acidity in the stomach. We can boost fertility back by eating more omega-3 and reduce the intake of omega-6 fatty acids. Diets high in omega-6 fats are inflammatory, whereas diets balanced with omega-3 fats are not. To boost your chances of conceiving, avoid these omega-6 foods:
• Fried foods cooked in the oils listed below
• Peanut oil
• Corn oil
• Sunflower oil
• Canola oil
• Soybean oil
• Cottonseed oil
• Safflower oil
• Baked dairy goods
Instead, consume omega-3 rich foods such as:
• Fish oil supplements (mercury-free)
• Wild, saltwater fish
• Flaxseeds
• Chia seeds
• Walnuts
• Grass-fed animal products
3. Get More Vitamin D3
Vitamin D is not just a vitamin, but it’s a hormone. Most of us don’t get enough vitamin D which is responsible for keeping inflammation levels low and synthesizing with sunlight to prevent depression. Low levels of Vit D3 may be responsible for some women’s inability to conceive.
Vitamin D3 is vital for fertility health because it affect the adaptive immune system, the innate immune system, insulin secretion by the pancreatic β cell, multifactorial heart functioning and blood pressure regulation, and brain and fetal development, according to American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
If the insulin system isn’t functioning properly, the inflammatory response of the body is intensified thereby preventing fertility from occuring.
4. Get Good Exercise
Exercise is a vital component in enhancing fertility. A woman may need to exercise frequently to boost her chances of pregnancy. Studies shows that women who were most active prior to fertility pharmacy treatments were 3 times more likely to conceive as those who were not active. Exercise is a body normalizer that balances the functions of the organs and keeps the hormones functioning well. Exercise also helps in reducucing anxiety, encouraging sound sleep, curbing insulin levels and alleviating depression.
5. Get More Sleep
Inadequate sleep causes disorder on your hormones. Our bodies repair cells and regulate fertility hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH), while we sleep.
A very important fertility hormone is called leptin, which affects ovulation directly. Women need adequate sleep for proper leptin production. If leptin is disrupted, menstrual cycles are equally disturbed. Ensure you have at least 7-10 hours sleeps at night if you are trying to get pregnant.

Romance / 12 Simple Tips On How To Make A Woman Happy by jannydear(f): 5:02pm On Feb 28, 2018
Most men are of the opinion that women are very complicated and hard to please, but this notion is false. It takes quite a little and mostly insignificant things to make a woman happy.

READ ALSO: How to Remain Faithful in Relationship

Instead of waiting for a woman to list out things she need, surprise her by showing her that you already know those stuffs. Ladies love it when a guy just walks in and do the exact things they love without being told.

How to make a woman happy right from the start

Ask about her family – It sounds insignificant right? It is smart to ask about her family even though you may not want to hear too much apart from whether or not everyone is well. You can’t begin to imagine how happy she would be when she knows her family is important to you.
Compliment something abstract about her – Perhaps u’ve been complementing her in time past. But make it different this time. Don’t just go for the same thing she always hears, like “you look stunning” or I love this dress on you.” Instead, compliment her motivation or ambition, it would make her happier and encourage her to achieve her set goals.
Go with whatever she wants to do – If you are out to know how to make a woman happy, do whatever she wants, it doesn’t have to be all the time. Sometimes she’ll only suggest things she knows you’ll agree to and that takes the fun out of it for her a little bit. Ask her earnestly what she wants to do and then do it.
Do some chores for her without being asked – You can put a pleasant smile on her face all day if do some of her chores if she’s having a rough day or week. You can sweep and mop the floor, wash those dishes, and even make her bed for her. Don’t wait for her to ask you to assist her in doing things you know she hates doing.
Bring her home something sweet – Once in a while, you can stop somewhere and buy her a little candy bar or whatever she loves, it doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s a very small and simple gesture, but it can make her happier than you can imagine. It would give her the impression that you were thinking about her.
Give her a small unexpected massage – Even if she isn’t having a rough time at work or she didn’t do anything strenuous, give her a good massage. Nobody in their right mind would turn down a great back rub. The fact that you’re pampering her for apparently no reason will make her very happy and endear her towards you.
Plant a tender kiss her forehead publicly – It may not be the most romantic spots to plant a kiss, but there’s something very exceptional and expressive about forehead kisses. When you’re out in public, lean into her and give her a soft kiss to her forehead. It’ll be more charming since you are both in a public place.
Tickle her – Be careful on how you go about this, most people are not a fan of tickles. But if you know she considers it fun, then tickle her. Couples often forget about this type of thing when they’ve been together for a long time.
Kiss her hand as you walk together – Apart from the forehead kiss, women love it when their man kiss their hand in public. While you’re holding hands and walking together, bring her hand to meet your lips and plant a small kiss. She’ll love it so much, it would make her feel extremely special.
Talk her how you feel about her – Since guys are mostly logical beings and not emotional, they really don’t consider things like expressing their feelings. However, same isn’t applicable to a woman. A woman love to hear her man say how he feels about her. Once in a while, express your love to her by telling her exactly how you feel about her.
Pay attention to the little things – Ladies are mostly not moved by the big things of life. It’s the little things that matters most. You could prepare her a breakfast if she has a big day at work.
Suggest seeing a movie you know she’ll love to see – You may not like her type of movies. But you can awe her by going with her to see a movie you know she’s been dying to see. It’s a self-sacrificing move which and she would respect you for that.
These things are simple, but meaningful to a lady. Just do them and you’ll see how smoothly.

Romance / 9 Steps On How To Get Your Ex To Love You Again by jannydear(f): 5:15pm On Feb 24, 2018
Most persons find it difficult to let go of their ex, irrespective of the circumstances that led to the break up in the first place. If you are always thinking about the lovely moments you shared with your ex, then chances are your heart is yearning for a reconciliation. However, before thinking of getting back with your ex, you need to ponder over it seriously and even seek counselling if need be, to avoid a repeat of the past occurrence that led to your separation.

READ ALSO: How to Maintain a Good Relationship with Your Girlfriend

If you honestly believe, with all your heart, that getting back together with your ex is a perfectly healthy and rational thing to do, then follow the steps below to get back into your ex’s loving arms.

Start off with an apology
– Even if the breakup was caused by your ex, there’s still a chance that you let go of words that you wish you could take back. It’s always a good idea to apologize for the things you may have said and done that contributed to the end of your relationship. In apologizing, try to do it in person and be as honest as possible. The fact that your ex appears interested in talking to you may be a sign that there’s a likelihood that they will accept your apology and work things out. Apology of this sort is most appropriate if the breakup is recent.
If the breakup isn’t recent, send your ex a text or a private message – If the breakup isn’t recent, then it may not be right to just call or show up at your ex’s place. It may be too forward and confrontational, it may cause your ex to shut you down or even mortify you. It’s better to send a message, just to give your ex some time to ponder on whether to reply or not. If your ex replies politely enough, then you can proceed to the meeting stage, if not, then your ex might be suspicious of your message. Try to send another message at another time, and keep your fingers crossed that you’ll get a response.
Ask your ex out for a date over the phone – You can proceed to ask your date out on a date after you’ve passed the stage of messaging each other on a more or less regular basis. Give your ex a call. It’s up to you if you want your ex to hear just how smitten you still are with hearing their voice. After the opening chat, ask your ex to hang out with you, even if it’s just as friends. It may sound untrue to immediately confess to your ex that you are still attracted to them. So take it slowly and ensure you keep the date as casual as possible. Avoid any romantic settings, preferably take them to a restaurant or coffee shop and it should be during the daytime.
Reconnect with your ex’s friends – It may also be a good idea to get back in touch with your ex’s friends and family once you’re back to hanging out with each other. Don’t act like your breakup never occurred. Instead, act like someone who has been away for a while, but would just like to catch up. Keep your cool, and don’t act all grasping. One of the key ways you can try to get back with your ex is by getting to their friends. Your ex may be persuaded by a friend who appears to think that you’ve turned a new leaf and subsequently encourage your ex to accept you back.
Reminisce about the good times – When you’re on your third date, or maybe even on your first, if you want to take it fast, you may say a thing or two about the good times both of you shared before the breakup. Their response would actually give you a clue as to whether you still stand a chance of getting them back. If they recall the good old days, they might still see you as someone they can fall back in love with. Conversely, if your ex seems to see your relationship as a waste of time, then you need to work on convincing your ex that it won’t be like that if given another chance.
Show your ex how much you’ve changed – You can try to prove to your ex that you are really a changed person by emphasizing some of the things you’ve changed for the better. If you’re still the same person whom your ex decided to leave, then asking them to take you back is senseless. For instance, you may show signs that you’re now more sensitive to their feelings by showing understanding. You may tell your ex that you’ve decided to join a program for controlling bad habits like taking excessive alcohol, smoking, gambling or anger issues.
Try to entice your ex again – After showing your ex that you are a totally changed person, you also have to show that the parts your ex likes are still there. Look back at how you were able to catch your ex’s attention and use this to attract them a second time. You may have met during a music event, and you can go to another one to recreate the memories. Your ex may have fallen for your great taste in movies and literature, and you can entertain them with stories of what you’ve seen and read.
Highlight why you want to get back together – After all the romantic hints and dates, you may have to point it out to your ex why you’re trying to get them back. It’s clear that you’re not just after a tumble in bed, but you have to make it clear that your intentions include getting back together. This is eventually all up to you and your own personal reasons. However, one of the most effective things you might say is the fact that life just isn’t the same without their presence. You can explain how different it was after the split and how much better it could be, if you were to reunite.
The actual commitment – Most relationships pack up commitment issues. Your ex may have left because they didn’t think you had plans to marry them in future. You can change their mind by actually proposing marriage. And yes, even women can do this, but it takes a woman with a lot of guts to pull this off. However before you start planning a huge proposal, you have to consider the chances that your ex may or may not quite accept it. Don’t use your proposal to pressure your ex, as this may just lead to you getting let down.

Health / Watching Too Much TV Can Cause Blood Clot by jannydear(f): 10:25am On Feb 24, 2018
New research from scientists at the University of Minnesota shows that long hours spent watching television may increase your risks for a blood clot. According to the study, blood clots may form in the veins of people who spend too much time in front of the TV.

Blood clot forming in the vein is described as venous thromboembolism (VTE).

The starting points of these clots, are usually in the legs, but the clots can also travel to the lungs, causing a possibly fatal condition called pulmonary embolism.

The researchers explained that sitting for long periods of time can cause blood clots to form, because normal circulation of blood through the legs and feet is reduced.

To find out if binge-watching can increase the risk of blood clot, the researchers studied data from more than 15,000 Americans, aged 45 to 64, in a long-term study that stated in 1987.

READ ALSO: Blood Clot: Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Almost 700 cases of VTE had occurred among the participants in 2011. Those who binge-watch had a 70% higher odds of developing one of the clots than people who never or rarely watched TV. This risk remained high even after factors such as the person’s weight or levels of exercise and other activities were taken into consideration.

Though the research result couldn’t automatically establish that it was the TV watching that caused the increase in clots, it could only point to an association.

Still, “even individuals who regularly engage in physical activity should not ignore the potential harms of prolonged In a journal news release, lead author Yasuhiko Kubota, of the University of Minnesota, said;

“Sedentary behaviors such as TV viewing, two heart specialists unrelated to the study agreed that couch potato lifestyles can certainly impact negatively on health”.

Dr. Maja Zaric is an interventional cardiologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She said there’s certainly a connection between time spent watching TV and a person’s chances for blood clots, but she wished the research had been more specific about just how much TV time was involved.

Zaric noted out that participants simply estimated their TV viewing time as “never or seldom,” “sometimes,” “often” or “very often” and those valuations could be very biased.

READ ALSO: Can Drinking Instant Coffee Cause Cancer?

“It would be interesting to see how much actual time in hours was there in each category,” Zaric said. “There may be a different view on the amount of TV watching between an obese subject with advanced arthritis and chronic back pain and a appropriate subject at healthy weight.”

Chief of heart failure services at Northwell Health’s Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital, in Valley Stream, N.Y, Dr. David Friedman said this study shows that people ought to be more physically active. He suggested that people could improve aerobic physical fitness by watching their favourite TV program on their smart devices on the go, to reduce chances of blood clot forming.

Patients are always advised by doctors to take off all jewelry or body piercing, prior to surgery as one of the major pre-surgery preparations.

These are the main reasons why doctors warn patients to strip off all jewelry before start of operation:

There is always the likelihood of jewelry falling into the body cavity that is being opened during operation, which can eventually cause other health problems, especially if it went unnoticed by the surgeons.

Health / Dry Powder Inhaler Or Metered Dose Inhaler –which Is The Best To Control Asthma? by jannydear(f): 4:07am On Feb 20, 2018
For asthma sufferers, inhaler is their life support, so it is wise to opt for the best to use control your attacks. There are various types of inhalers present in the market that help one to control asthma, but each comes with its own merits and demerits. It is most times a problem to choose the best inhaler for a particular case.
Pressurised-metered dose inhalers came into existence a long time ago while the dry inhalers came after, and are also a favourite among chronic asthma patients. So if you are wondering whether to stick to your previous inhaler or switch to dry inhalers, we got a detailed description of both from Dr Ashok Mahashur, consultant chest physician, P D Hinduja Hospital.
According to Dr Ashok Mahashur, consultant chest physician, P D Hinduja Hospital, “the use of dry powder inhalers is increasing these days as they are easy to use. However, at the end it is the patient’s choice to stick to the one he is comfortable using”.
Differentiating Dry Powdered Inhalers From Pressurized-metered Inhalers
Dry powdered inhalers: This kind of inhaler doesn’t need to be pumped or pressed to get the medication since it has dry powder. There is a simple device that helps to inhale the dry powder in a single deep breath, so the issue taking the wrong dosage does not come into play.
Pressurized-metered inhalers: These inhalers are usually in the pressurized spray form and make use of the pump. So, to take one dose of the medication, you need to press. Most patients use the device inaccurately and fail to hold their breath after inhalation or fail to breathe in the dose properly. This kind of inhaler requires practice and co-ordination and it could pose a problem for the elderly and people suffering from muscular weakness.
In such case, a dry inhaler stands to be a preferred choice.
Pressurised-metered inhalers with spacer: These types of inhalers are used for kids. There is a spacer or a device between the mouthpiece and the inhaler. The dose is first released into the spacer and then inhaled slowly, so the dose reaches the lungs directly. This kind of inhaler works well for the elderly too. The spacer needs to be washed and cleaned regularly to avoid saliva being stuck on the walls.

Most ladies yearn for an exceptional look on that big day. However If you want to impress your man, there are some things you must not do.
Eye Makeup: Avoid using eye studs on Valentine’s Day date. You wouldn’t want his attention to be solely focused on the studs on your eyelid instead of your eye. Keep it simple.
Big Hairdo: Don't go in for a showy hairdo. Keep it simple but yet elegant and sexy.
Use hair spray: It is advisable to use hair spray to achieve a neater look with sweet fragrance. The loose strands can actually ruin your well-planned look.

Ask flexible questions

Ensure that your body language isn't wrong
Body language can make or break your chances of winning your date over. It is suggested that you nod your head when the other person is speaking, sit upright and smile or make expressive hand gestures. This will convey that you like the other person and increase the likelihood of them wanting to take the relationship further.

Be prepared for the worse
You might find someone nice or not-so-nice through online dating. You must take into cognizance the fact that your date may or may not be lying about their age, qualification or relationship status. It is best that you face the event with indifference, don’t get too emotional. That way, you may not be too hurt if things didn’t turn out as you had expected.

Romance / What To Do When Your Partner Isn’t Ready To Commit by jannydear(f): 4:02pm On Feb 06, 2018
What do you do when you want to settle down and start building a family with your partner, but your partner isn’t ready to commit? In order to know how to handle such circumstances, consider the following guidelines below:

You must know what commitment is
You have to be certain with yourself and with your partner about what you really want. Do you want to date entirely, move in together to become live-in lovers, or you want to get married? Dialogues can be frustrating if you haven’t exclusively defined your terms clearly.

You must be ready to commit
We know the act of falling in love can be mind-altering, but it can sometimes pervade people with an urgency to live their happily-ever-after instantaneously. However, moving too fast can create issues. For example, you might feel so self-doubting that you are driven to solve the problem ultimately by obtaining a commitment from your partner and tying the knots. But this could lock you into a marriage in which you continue to feel insecure and jealous.

You must be sure your partner has enough of the qualities you want in a partner
A committed relationship means sharing your lifetime with someone even during troubled times, these times are when that love will be most edgy. So, it’s imperative that your partner represents traits that you respect and that are important to you, such as sharing your values and other things.

You should know when your partner is just hesitant
You should be able to differentiate when your partner is just being uncertain about the relationship and need extra guarantee from when they want to live a life avoiding commitment. While you may be able to encourage a committed relationship with either of these people, think twice about putting too much effort into a relationship with the latter. To know if your partner is scared of commitment, ask yourself if they don’t show an interest in learning about your deep thoughts and state of mind, avoid sharing personal information, or avoid talking about your relationship. These can all be signs of someone who has no intention whatever of getting deeply attached or committed to another in a relationship.

There may be changes you should make in yourself that would help your partner be more willing to commit
Your partner might be hesitant to commit because of worries about the way the two of you relate. Your partner might want you to be more loving or to learn to manage your anger better. Rather than just making excuses, you might help your partner make the decision to commit by agreeing to work on these changes.

From the above guidelines, you should know you the final decision to remain to move on from an uncommitted relationship lies in your court. If you think it might help, talk with your partner about them. Do what you can to nurture and cherish a more committed relationship.

Health / Researchers Claim There Are Some Benefits To C-sections by jannydear(f): 4:19pm On Feb 04, 2018
According to researchers in the United Kingdom, there are some benefits to a cesarean section, h medical experts say the surgery still shouldn’t be done unless necessary.

However, medical experts warn that it doesn’t mean you should schedule the operation unless it’s necessary.

A study in PLOS Medicine concluded that women who have C-sections deliveries have a lower risk of urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse.

READ ALSO: Taking Care of Yourself before Pregnancy

Dr. Sarah Stock, who studies preterm birth at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and her team looked at one controlled trial and 79 group studies involving nearly 30 million women.

The studies looked at long-term results of women who had the surgery compared to those who delivered through the vaginal.

They discovered that babies delivered through C-section had an increased risk of asthma for up to 12 years and an increased risk of obesity for up to 5 years of age.

Dangers and Profits of C-sections
Dr. Neil S. Seligman, an OB-GYN at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, said there are a few potential benefits to having a C-section.

Most C-sections are scheduled during the 39th week of pregnancy, so doctors know within minutes of delivery if the infant needs surgery for problems such as congenital heart disease.

A scheduled cesarean section also lowers the risk of birth injuries such as asphyxia (oxygen deprivation), shoulder dystocia, and fractures, Seligman added. For women have had surgery for incontinence before pregnancy, undergoing a C-section may be ideal in order to prevent re-injury. There are dangers associated with having a C-section, especially if the woman has future pregnancies.

READ ALSO: Why The Time After Childbirth Is More Dangerous: Causes Of Postpartum Death

Miscarriages and placenta previa (when the placenta covers the cervical opening) are risks associated with having a C-section.

In addition, women who have C-sections are also at an increased risk for placenta accreta (when blood vessels grow deeply into the uterine wall and don’t easily detach during delivery) and placental abruption (when the placenta detaches from the womb).

In the case of placenta accreta, a hysterectomy must be performed after delivery, Seligman said.

Also there’s a rare snag called a cesarean scar pregnancy, a type of ectopic pregnancy that forms on the old cesarean delivery scar.

Scar tissue from a C-section can make successive deliveries more problematic since it increases the risk of excessive bleeding and bowel or bladder injuries.

C-sections on the rise
Caesarean deliveries have become most sought after globally, especially those performed when not medically needed.

According to the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in three births in the United States is through C-section. That rate has soared from about 5 percent in 1970 to 20 percent in 1996 to 32 percent in 2015.

“There is an exaggerated perception of the safety of cesarean section to [an] extent that is viewed as essentially risk-free. But it’s major abdominal surgery and complications are going to happen” Seligman said.

“Thankfully, the risk of most major complications is low, but at a high-volume hospital, complications are a reality that can have a significant impact, among other things, interfering with breastfeeding, bonding with the baby, and can spark postpartum depression.”

“Once you put a hole in the uterus there’s no going back,” he added. “It will always be an issue that needs to be addressed in future pregnancies so it’s essential that the decision to pick up a knife is a well thought out one by both the physician and the patient,” Seligman added.

Health / Is It Good Or Bad To Work Out While Sick? by jannydear(f): 6:01am On Feb 03, 2018
Studies have shown carrying out regular exercise is an excellent way to keep your body healthy. The benefits of working out is numerous – from boosting immune system to keeping weight in check and also reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes.

There is no doubt that exercise plays a major but many people wonder if embarking on exercise while ill can affect their recuperation negatively.

Every sick person wishes for a speedy recovery while ill, however, it’s difficult to know when it’s ok or not to work out to enhance your recovery.

READ ALSO: Exercise and Fitness Tips to Improve Your Health

Since exercise is considered a healthy habit, most people may wish to continue working even when sick. Working out can be ok in certain situations, but it’s also harmful if you are experiencing certain symptoms.

Many specialists use the “above the neck” rule when advising patients on whether to continue working out while unwell.

The above the neck rule suggests that if you are only experiencing symptoms that are above your neck, such as a stuffy nose, sneezing or an earache, you’re probably ok to engage in exercise.

On the other hand, if you are experiencing symptoms below your neck, like body aches, nausea, diarrhea, fever, productive cough (coughing up phlegm), or chest congestion, you may want to skip your exercise until you feel better.

When It’s Safe to Exercise
Working out with the following symptoms is most likely safe, but always check with your doctor if you are uncertain.

Earache
An earache is a sharp, dull or burning throbbing pain that can be located in one ear or both ears.

Ear pain in children is commonly caused by infection, but earache in adults is more commonly caused by pain occurring in another area, such as the throat. Ear pain can be caused by sore throat, sinus infections, changes in pressure or tooth infection.

As long as your sense of balance is not affected, it is safe to exercise with an earache. Though certain types of ear infections can throw you off balance and cause fevers and other symptoms that make working out risky. Ensure you don’t have one of these ear infections before embarking on exercise.

Stuffy Nose

Stuffy nose is linked with a fever, productive cough or chest congestion. It’s ok to work out if you are only experiencing some nasal congestion. Getting some exercise may even help open up your blocked nasal passages.

Your best bet however, is to listen to your body to determine if you feel well enough to exercise with a stuffy nose.

Also, you can adjust your workout to accommodate your energy level.

Going for a brisk walk or bike ride are great ways to stay active even when you aren’t feeling up to your usual routine.

Mild Sore Throat

A sore throat is usually caused by a viral infection like flu or common cold. When your sore throat is associated with a difficulty swallowing, productive cough or fever, it is best to hold back on work outs. But if you your case is just a mild sore throat caused by something like a common cold or allergies, exercising is likely safe.

If you are experiencing other symptoms that are often linked with a common cold, such as fatigue and congestion, consider reducing the intensity and duration of your normal exercise routine. Drink lots of cool water to soothe a sore throat during exercise.

Mild Cold
This is a viral infection that affects the nose and throat. Though symptoms differ from person to person, most people who have a cold experience a stuffy nose, headache, sneezing and mild cough. If you are strong enough to work out with mild cold, then go ahead.

Although, if you feel that you lack the energy to get through your normal routine, consider reducing the intensity and duration of your workout.

Practice proper hygiene to prevent spreading your cold to others. Wash your hands frequently and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

When It is Unsafe to Exercise

Stomach Bug
Stomach bug includes illnesses that affect the digestive system. Exercising with a stomach flu is strictly not advisable.

Stomach cramping, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever, stomach and lack of appetite are all common symptoms associated with stomach bugs.

Diarrhea and vomiting causes you to be dehydrated, which will be worsen when you work output. Weakness is a common symptom when you have a stomach illness, increasing the chance of injury during exercises. Your best alternative work out for stomach illness may be light stretching or yoga at home.

Flu Symptoms
Influenza is a contagious illness that affects the respiratory system. The flu causes symptoms like chills, fever, headache, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, cough and congestion.

The flu can be mild or severe, depending on the level of infection, in worst cases, it may cause death. Most people recover from the flu in less than two weeks, but engaging in intense workouts while sick may delay the flu and your recovery. This is because engaging in higher-intensity activity like running or a spin class temporarily suppresses the body’s immune response.

READ ALSO: Flu Symptoms and Treatment

Also, flu is a highly contagious virus that is spread primarily through tiny droplets people with the flu release into the air when they talk, cough or sneeze. For flu, It’s best to completely avoid exercise until the you are well enough.

Productive Cough

When you cough occasionally, it is considered ok, because it is a normal response of your body to irritants or fluids in the airways. However, frequent and persistent coughing can be a symptom of a respiratory infection like a flu, cold or pneumonia.

While a cough associated with a tickle in the throat isn’t a reason to skip the gym, a more persistent cough can be a sign you need to rest.

A dry, irregular cough may not ruin your ability to perform certain exercises, but it is best to avoid exercise with a frequent, productive cough.

A persistent cough can make it hard to take a deep breath, especially during exercise when your heart rate rises. This makes you more likely to become short of breath and exhausted.

A productive cough may be a sign of infection or another medical condition that requires rest and medical attention.

Fever
When you have a fever, your body temperature rises above its normal range. A fever is mostly triggered by a bacterial or viral infection. Symptoms associated with fever include dehydration, loss of appetite, muscle aches and weakness.

Exercising while you’re feverish increases the risk of dehydration and can worsen your symptoms.

It is best to skip the gym during exercise because fever decreases muscle strength and endurance and mars coordination.

Romance / Dealing With Insecurity In Relationship by jannydear(f): 10:54am On Feb 02, 2018
For a relationship to overcome threats and challenges of breakups, both partners have to be committed to making their union stand the test of time. If couples go into intimate relationship confident and poised within themselves, they are much better equipped to give that dedication to one another. Couples who are confident in their own separate ability to handle danger do not readily cave in when it occurs. Those individual resilience blend into a unified stance of greater strength as they navigate these hardships together.

On the contrary, when one or both partners enter their relationships without their individual security in place, they somewhat rely on the relationship to define their current worth. If uncertainty challenges the partnership in any way, their individual insecurities are likely to occur and take priority over the quandary that needs to be resolved. As insecurity increases, the symptoms associated with it such as fear of loss, paranoia, uncertainty, anxiety and need for reassurance and distrust equally increases.

If your sense of value is easily dazed when faced with insecurity, there are things you can do about those responses that will strengthen your ability to overcome your fears.

You need to learn what the six most common causes that make all people more insecure and to evaluate where you are in those positions. After identifying what triggers your insecurity, then learn to reduce the impact of those drivers to avoid recurrence.

Six Common Causes of Insecurity
Broken Trusts
The issue of trust is strongest in partners who have faced betrayal, abuse and abandonment issues in the past. In the process of being cautious, they unconsciously allow their past bitter experience to overrule their new relationships. If they keep on anticipating a new love to make up for past betrayers, they are certain to refashion the same outlines that didn’t worked in their past relationships.

Fear of Disappointing
Most persons who have suffered disappointment in the past are scared to be discounted by those they love. They have assumed responsibility for lost relationships by feeling that they did not measure up to their partner’s expectation. If losses accumulate, they become even cagier to express their reactions for fear they will again push the other partner away.

Dependency
Some people are of the mindset that their partners are only with them because they haven’t yet found someone better. They are always apprehensive that the relationship will end, so they unwittingly try too hard to please and avoid challenging anything that might reduce their partner’s commitment to the relationship. They only concentrate on actions that keep things in order and become totally reliant on on those results.

Genetics
There’s an incorporated alarm system to protect them from danger, and when faced with a threatening situation, their bodies produce chemicals that help them to survive by freezing, fighting back or looking for an escape route. When the threat is overcome, another set of chemicals is produced that put them at ease again.

Some people have a more physical trigger-ready response to threats from birth. Those individuals naturally react more extremely to apparent threats and are more likely to anticipate future ones.

5. Environmental Stressors
People who have suffered ordeal in youthful stage of their lives often have more forceful fight or flight reactions when they feel endangered. If those have had support during those stressful times and became stronger as a result, they have a better chance to become tough when they face future challenges. Otherwise, if they have been abandoned or wounded during those episodes, their confidence and inborn sense of security will become more susceptible in following losses.

Hate for Conflict
If relationship partners are insecure for whatever reasons, they are less willing to take risks that might give them the opportunity to develop substitute decisions and more resilience. Some people are scared of conflict of any kind. They cannot stand disagreements, and they tend to avoid them whenever possible. They develop heightened accommodation tendencies whenever they are confronted with conflict. They are exceedingly prone to caving in easily, just to maintain security.

Steps to Becoming More Secure
Your success in relationships will eventually be a function of how you handle insecurity. There are ways you can change your insight and control of your own insecurity. They may not be instantly easy to master, especially if you have suffered insecurity issues in the past, but you will be able to subsequently make them part of your new obligation.

Make a difference
You can achieve this by making a list of all the people in your life who you believe care about you. To whom have you truly mattered? Use as your measures to check whether they have really loved you. Proceed to ask yourself what each would say about you were they asked, and why they felt that way about you. Those people symbolize people in your past who took away your sense of worth, thereby causing you to feel you had no right to be appreciated and loved.

READ ALSO: Signs to Tell Your Guy Wants To Settle Down With You

Seek Support
Some persons have difficulty letting go of someone, even if they have negative significance. Everybody needs to feel that what he or she says or does affects the people who are important to them. Think about relationships where you have felt you’ve made a difference, where the person on the other end of you is truly affected by who you are and what you’ve had to say. Ask yourself why you have remained in relationships where you’ve not been effective. If you’re afraid that you cannot afford to lose them, you will always be emotionally blackmailed.

Spiritual Connection
It is an established fact that when people regularly meditate or pray, they feel a sense of responsibility to honor what is most consecrated in themselves and the world. The only way any of us can stay truly secure is to know that we are in due course answerable to a greater force than us that gives us meaning and purpose, independently of relationships with others. That sense of commitment creates awareness and appreciation of what each person needs to do to give their best in relationships.

Don’t allow your past rule your future
The past is for lessons while the present is for experiences. Insecurity increases when the past continues to meddle in a new relationship of people who are yet to deal with their past failures. Many people enter new relationships with a pessimistic expectation of loss. They become prejudiced by their predictions, see only what they expect to see and react as they have in the past.

Acknowledge your marketability
Accurate and honest assessment of our own value is vital to knowing what we can expect from others. If you are in an intimate relationship with someone you truly believe is worth more on the open market, you will naturally feel more undefined in that relationship. That “rating” is relative and susceptible to change. You could be on the other end of someone who is, at this moment in time, less valuable. Value on the open market is an issue that affects everyone. You must believe in your self-value, no matter who you are with and be realistic in terms of where that puts you in the current partner-availability process.

Conclusion
No matter how committed you are to the relationship, at some point in time, you may begin to feel helpless and insecure in your own ability to make a difference.

Insecurity is a terrible vandal of love’s potential to heal. Whether you are the insecure person in a relationship or the one who is trying to fight it off, it is vital to overcome it because it is a destroyer of promising relationships.

Health / How To Know When Your Liver Is In Trouble by jannydear(f): 4:57am On Feb 01, 2018
The vital role your liver plays in the functioning of your body cannot be over-emphasized. It does all kind of important work including breaking down food, cleaning your blood, storing energy your body needs and making proteins.
Liver function test is used to ascertain any problems with the liver. The test is conducted if you have a number of symptoms, including a yellow coloring of your skin and slurred speech.

READ ALSO: 11 Bad Habits That Can Damage Your Kidneys

There’s actually no single test to check your liver. Your doctor will perform several tests to check levels of different proteins and enzymes in your blood. Enzymes are proteins that help accelerate certain reactions in your body.
Some tests will check for enzymes that you find in your blood only when your liver is damaged or is diseased. Other tests are performed to check whether the organ is working as expected.

Symptoms of Liver problems

Some symptoms of liver problems include:
• Dark urine or light-colored stool
• Lack of appetite
• Swelling in your belly
• Throwing up having the urge to vomit
• Weakness
• Jaundice, a condition that causes eyes or skin to become yellow.

Liver function test can help check how bad an illness is getting or how well treatment is working.

Your doctor may order a liver function test if you:
• Have a family history of liver disease
• A heavy alcoholic
• Obese
• have diabetes or high blood pressure
• Taking medicine that can cause injury to your liver

Types of Liver Function Tests

There are a number of liver function tests, some include:
• Alanine transaminase (ALT) test: ALT is an enzyme that helps break down proteins and is found mostly in your liver. High levels in your blood could lead to liver damage.
• Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) test: This is an enzyme in your liver, bile ducts, and bone. You might have high levels if you have bone disease, liver damage or disease or a blocked bile duct, or bone disease.
• Albumin and total protein test: Your liver produces two main proteins: albumin and globulin. Low levels of these proteins can mean disease or damage to the liver.
• Aspartate transaminase (AST) test. AST is another enzyme found in your liver. High blood levels could mean or damage or disease to liver.
• Bilirubin test. Bilirubin is produced when red blood cells break down. The liver usually helps the body get rid of bilirubin. High levels in your blood could indicate jaundice, meaning you may have liver damage.
• Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) test. High levels of the GGT enzyme could indicate liver or bile duct damage.
• L-lactate dehydrogenase (LD) test. LD is high when your liver damages. However, other conditions can equally raise its level too.
• Prothrombin time (PT) test: This test measures how long it takes blood clot to form. If it takes a long time, that could be a sign of liver damage. Medications that thin your blood, such as warfarin (Coumadin), can also lead to a longer PT.

Getting Ready for Liver Function Test

Your doctor may probably ask you not to eat, drink, or take medicine for 10 to 12 hours before the test because some foods and medications can affect your liver function.
Make sure you inform your doctor about any medicines you’re taking, including over-the-counter medications and any herbal supplements.

What Happens During the Test?

The test involves your doctor using a thin needle to draw a small amount of blood, usually from your arm near your elbow. You may likely feel a slight pinch or stinging sensation when the needle pierces your body. You may only sustain some soreness or a bruise at the site where the blood is withdrawn.

Typically, these tests are performed more than once over a few days or weeks. If you get your test at a clinic that has a lab on site, you can sometimes get results in a few hours. If not, it might take a few days.

Results of the test, what does it mean?

Your doctor can help you understand what your results mean. The results generally show the normal values along with your numbers. Note that what’s normal can vary with different labs. Gender can also affects results. You’ll likely get more tests if your results aren’t normal.

Having a pet to look up to you isn't just about feeding them, playing fetch with them, or cuddling them. You ought to know that having a pet comes with a whole lot of responsibility. Pet owners should freshen up on some etiquette to avoid making some common mistakes.

1. Too Little Exercise

It isn’t only humans that require exercise to stay healthy, pets need exercise too. Lack of exercise for pets can lead to obesity which can in turn increase their risk of respiratory and joint-related problems. The right amount of exercise for a dog depends on the breed and size, but vets recommend at least a half-hour each day. On regular basis, take brisk walks with your dog to help you and your pet stay in shape.

2. Allowing Your Dog Walk You

Thousands of people end up in the Emergency Room on yearly basis because of accidents sustained from walking their pets. Allowing your dog to be in front of you during walks can cause you to trip over a dog or to be pulled or pushed by one. Your dog should undergo obedience training to ensure your pet remain on track.

3. Overfeeding your pet

Always keeping the food bowl of your pet full with the best intention of not allowing their four-legged furry friend go hungry for even a minute, is wrong. Dogs and cats will often eat more than they need. If food is constantly available, they will take in too many calories and put on unnecessary weight. Follow the instructions on the pet food label or ask your vet for guidance on feeding your pet, to avoid having a fat, lazy pet lying around.

4. Too Little Attention

Not paying regular attention to your pets will cause them to get bored stiff. Bored pets have the tendency of taking up offensive behaviors like digging, chewing, whining and barking. Bored cats may resort to scratching and meowing excessively. Help your pets overcome boredom by hiding treats for them to find around the house. Provide toys your cat can chase. Teach dogs to play tug-of-war, hide-and-seek or fetch.

5. Feeding only Milk to Cats

Most people believe cats thrive well on milk. This is a wrong assumption because most cats can’t properly digest the sugars in milk. Your cat can develop symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea, if you feed them only milk. Though some cats can digest milk easily, they don’t need it. So, it is best to occasionally avoid milk or as recommended by your vet.

6. Giving Bones to Dogs

Bones aren’t ideal treats for dogs, contrary to what most people would believe. Always giving your dog bones to chew can harm their teeth, tongue, or mouth. Bones can also get stuck in the digestive tract, which will require surgery to remove. It lead to death in some cases. Ask your vet for safer chewing alternatives that doesn’t include bones.

7. Feeding Only Dry Food to cats

Naturally, cats have a low thirst drive, so they may not drink enough to stay well hydrated. Chronically under-hydrated cats may be at risk of urinary tract disorders. Encourage your pet to drink by adding a water fountain designed for cats. Canned food is a good option too, but not every cat likes it. A fluid-rich diet is mostly important for cats with a history of urinary tract problems.

8. Leaving Pets unsupervised with Young children

Young kids may play too rough by pushing a dog or cat, causing the pet to strike out in self-defense. Be sure to supervise play time when a new pet joins the family. Old family pets are not excluded too, they still needs supervision when around kids. Set rules for children on how to treat the pet and teach them to watch out for signs that a dog or cat wants to be left alone.

9. Overlooking Ticks

Don’t form the habit of carefully checking only yourself for ticks after a walk in the woods without doing same to your pets. Tick bites can cause Lyme and other disease for dogs. They can also cause serious illnesses in cats. If your pet has infected ticks, it may eventually infect your family. Look for ticks and carefully pull them out with tweezers. Ask the vet about tick control.

10. Not deworming your pet

The most common parasites in both dogs and cats is roundworm and they cause diarrhea and vomiting and may lead to serious illness and even death. An infected pet can contaminate soil or sand with tiny eggs and kids can unintentionally ingest the eggs by putting dirty fingers in their mouths. Hence, not deworming your dog can be a threat to your family. These worms can lead to blindness and other tissue damage in humans. Ask your vet about regular deworming.

11. Not Spaying or Neutering Your Pet

Lots of cats and dogs live on the street and have unwanted broods. Most of them end up being euthanized. Still, many people are reluctant to spay or neuter their pets. It is a healthy choice to spray and neuter your pet as it reduces the risk of breast cancer in females and testicular cancer in males. Neutered males are also less likely to exhibit aggressive behaviors such as marking their territory or running away from home.

12. Forcing Cats to Be Vegetarian

Most Vegetarians wrongly force their pets to share same lifestyle with them. Cats are carnivores in nature. They belong to the same family as lion, tiger, cheetah etc. They need meat to survive because they depend on nutrients, such as the amino acid taurine, derived only from animal tissue. Dogs may be able to handle a well-balanced vegetarian diet, but consult your vet first.

13. Letting Dogs Eat Spoiled Food from Garbage

You should never leave your dog unattended to, up to the extent of rummaging through a garbage in search for food. Spoilt food is very unhealthy for pets than it is for people. Pets who consume garbage are at risk of getting bacterial food poisoning or pancreas irritation. Spoiled food contain toxic mold, which can cause a pet to experience severe tremors, seizures, vomiting, and even death.

14. Making Your Cats Share a Litter Box

Multiple cats sharing one litter box can lead to quick spread of disease, especially if they pee or poop on the floor. Cats can be very fussy about their litter box. Cats may not use a litter box that is dirty or that smells like other cats. It’s best to have one litter box for every cat in your home.

15. Feeding Dogs Table Scraps

It may be hard for you to resist the temptation of feeding your dog food from the table, especially when you look into those big soulful eyes. However, it is wrong to reward your dog’s whines or barks with table scraps as this will only encourage more begging in the future. If you want to share table scraps as an occasional treat, do it away from the table — and use the food as a reward for good behavior. Also, some human foods can be poisonous to your pet.

16. Setting No Rules

Your pets cannot be able to discern right from wrong unless you tell them. Even humans need rules. Human manners does not come naturally to pets, you have to make them understand the rules. Be consistent about the house rules, and reward your pets with treats for good behavior.

Health / Endometriosis: Symptoms, Causes And Treatment by jannydear(f): 8:35am On Jan 18, 2018
Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which tissue that normally lines the endometrium (inside of your uterus), grows outside your uterus. Endometriosis involves your fallopian tubes, ovaries and the tissue lining your pelvis. It’s very rare for endometrial tissue to spread beyond pelvic organs.

Endometriosis occurs when displaced endometrial tissue thickens, breaks down and bleeds with each menstrual cycle. This displaced tissue becomes trapped in the body since there is no way for it to exit. When endometriosis involves the ovaries, cysts called endometriomas may form. Surrounding tissue can become irritated, eventually developing scar tissue and adhesions — abnormal bands of fibrous tissue that can cause pelvic tissues and organs to stick to each other.

Endometriosis may cause severe pains especially during your period. Fertility problems also may develop.

Symptoms
The main symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, often associated with your menstrual flow. Although many women experience cramping during their menstrual period, women with endometriosis typically describe menstrual pain that’s far worse than usual. They also tend to report that the pain increases over time.

READ ALSO: Painful Menstruation: Causes And Treatment

Common signs and symptoms of endometriosis may include:

Painful periods (dysmenorrhea).Pelvic pain and cramping may begin before your period and extend several days into your period. You may also have lower back and abdominal pain.
Pain during sexual intercourse
Pain with bowel movements or urination: These symptoms may occur during your period
Excessive bleeding:You may experience occasional heavy periods (menorrhagia) or bleeding between periods (menometrorrhagia)
Infertility:Endometriosis is first diagnosed in some women who are seeking treatment for infertility
Other symptoms:You may also experience fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods.
The degree of your pain isn’t a reliable indicator of the extent of the condition. Some women with mild endometriosis have experience extreme pain, while others with advanced endometriosis may have little pain or no pain at all.

Endometriosis is at times mistaken for other conditions that can cause pelvic pain, such as ovarian cysts or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). It may be confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a condition that causes bouts of diarrhea, constipation and abdominal cramping.

Causes
Possible causes of endometriosis include:

Transformation of peritoneal cells:Experts propose that hormones or immune factors promote transformation of peritoneal cells (cells that line the inner side of your abdomen) into endometrial cells.
Retrograde menstruation: this occurs when menstrual blood containing endometrial cells flows back through the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity instead of out of the body. These displaced endometrial cells stick to the pelvic walls and surfaces of pelvic organs, where they grow and continue to stiffen and bleed over the course of each menstrual cycle.
Embryonic cell transformation: During puberty, hormones such as estrogen may transform embryonic cells (cells in the earliest stages of development) into endometrial cell implants.
Surgical scar implantation:After a surgery, such as a hysterectomy or C-section, endometrial cells may attach to a surgical incision.
Endometrial cells transport:The blood vessels or tissue fluid (lymphatic) system may transport endometrial cells to other parts of the body.
Immune system disorder:This occurs when a problem with the immune system causes the body not to be able to recognize and destroy endometrial tissue that’s growing outside the uterus.
Risk factors
Several factors place you at greater risk of developing endometriosis, such as:

When you have never given birth
Starting your period at an early age
Going through menopause at an older age
Short menstrual cycles — for instance, less than 27 days
Having higher levels of estrogen in your body or a greater lifetime exposure to estrogen your body produces
Low body mass index
Excessive consumption of alcohol
One or more relatives (mother, aunt or sister) with endometriosis
Any medical condition that prevents the normal passage of menstrual flow out of the body
Uterine abnormalities
Endometriosis usually develops several years after the onset of menstruation (menarche). Signs and symptoms of endometriosis end temporarily with pregnancy and end permanently with menopause, unless you’re taking estrogen.

Complications
Infertility
The main complication of endometriosis is impaired fertility. Approximately one-third to one-half of women with endometriosis have issues with getting pregnant.

READ ALSO: Infertility In Men And Women – Causes and Treatment

For pregnancy to occur, an egg must be released from an ovary, travel through the neighboring fallopian tube, become fertilized by a sperm cell and attach itself to the uterine wall to begin development. Endometriosis may cause obstruction in the tube, thereby preventing egg and sperm from uniting. Endometriosis can also cause damage to the sperm or egg. Many women with mild to moderate endometriosis can still conceive and carry a pregnancy to term.

Ovarian cancer
Ovarian cancer does occur at higher than expected rates in women with endometriosis. However the overall lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is low to begin with. Some studies suggest that endometriosis increases that risk, but it’s still relatively low.

Health / The Importance Of Getting Yearly Pap Smears by jannydear(f): 11:16am On Jan 15, 2018
Majority of deaths caused by cervical cancer can be avoided if it is detected early by running a yearly pap smear. Cervical cancer is not a disease of the elderly. Instead, the average age of diagnosis of cervical cancer is just 47 years old and about 47% of women with invasive cervical cancer are younger than 35 years of age.
What are pap smears?
A Pap smear, also known as Pap test, is a medical procedure to test for cervical cancer in women. It involves using a soft brush to take a small sample of cells from the narrow end of your uterus located at the top of your vagina called the cervix. It is a fast procedure that is relatively devoid of pain and takes few minutes.
The American Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommend that women should have a Pap smear every three years beginning at age 21. After age 30, your doctor may decrease the frequency to every three years if you’ve had three normal Pap test results in a row and if your immune system has not been weakened by a virus or recent health condition.
Importance of Pap smear
A lot of women can save their lives if they get pap smears test at least yearly. If the Pap test identifies any crooked cells that have the potential to develop into cervical cancer, women can get the appropriate treatment they need right away to stop the cancer from growing.
Note that Pap smears are not basically designed to spot cervical cancer. Instead, cervical cancer screening is used to find changes in the cells of the cervix that could lead to cancer. Consequently when irregular cells are detected by Pap smear, your doctor will administer certain treatments to stop the cancer from developing.
Pap smear Procedure
Pap smears are usually painless and are usually carried out during a pelvic exam. Your OBGYN will guide you through the whole process which usually takes no more than a few minutes. A speculum which is a device used to picture the vagina, gives the doctor a better view of the cervical area. The doctor will then swab your cervix with a soft brush to collect cells from the cervix. The sample is sent to the lab to look for any abnormal cells under a microscope.
Doctors recommend that all sexually active women older than 21 should start having pap smears done on a regular basis.

Wearing a very tight bra can cause your nipples to abrade when they rub against clothing. It’s usually more painful than itchy. Apply petroleum jelly to the area before workouts to protect it from irritation, and make sure your bra fits properly.

Radiation
Another cause for itchy nipples may be breast cancer treatment. Radiation destroys skin cells and causes burning sensation and dryness, as well as itching as the peeled-off skin. Your doctor may prescribe corticosteroid to apply on the affected skin. You can ease this by massaging the area with an ice cube, wear soft, loose-fitting clothes, and drinking lots of fluids.

Benign Tumor
A benign tumor in the breast duct can cause an itchy, crusted nipple. It may appear as a small lump or a clear or bloody discharge from the nipple. Your doctor may X-ray your breast duct or order an ultrasound, mammogram, or biopsy. The treatment is usually surgery.

Menopause
During menopause, fluctuating hormones and low estrogen levels can cause your skin to become drier, thinner, and easily irritated. At this stage, your body produces less oil, so it’s harder for your skin to retain moisture. You can feel the itch on the body, including the vagina and nipples. Fight the dryness by taking fewer hot baths. Use mild cleansers and moisturize often.

Undergarments
Since your bra and lingerie are produced from elastic and dye, your breasts and nipples may be reacting to these products. Contact dermatitis can cause redness and itching on the areas of the skin like the nipples that come in contact with the fabric. If you’ve just started wearing a new bra, go back to your old one for a while to check if the itch goes away, if not, then consult your doctor.

Thrush
Trush is a form of breast fungal infection. If you’re breastfeeding, and your nipples and surrounding area are not only itchy but shiny or flaky, and you feel sharp pain while nursing, then it is advisable to see your doctor. You may be given an antifungal cream to apply on your nipples and breasts, as well as an antifungal medication to be taken orally.

Paget’s Disease
Paget’s disease is rare form of breast cancer that begins in the breast ducts and spreads to the nipple and nearby area. It can look a lot like eczema, with scaly, crusted and itchy skin. It often affects just one nipple, and you may notice blood or yellow discharge. If the rash doesn’t respond to eczema treatments, you may need a culture of a tissue sample. Paget’s disease is treated with surgery and radiation.

Health / Tennis Star, Serena Williams Shares Childbirth Ordeal by jannydear(f): 6:45am On Jan 14, 2018
World renowned tennis player, Serena Williams, has opened up on the six weeks life-threatening complications following the birth of her daughter.
Williams tells the story of her medical ordeal in.
After a stress-free pregnancy, things unexpectedly turned perilous when she had to have an emergency C-section because the baby's heart rate was drastically dropping during contractions. After a successful C-section, her daughter, Olympia, was born on Sept. 1.
Williams revealed to the latest issue of Vogue, published Wednesday, that what trailed after her childbirth was far from smooth.
Williams unexpectedly felt short of breath the next day. She recalled in 2011, she had suffered a pulmonary embolism after a fall. As such, she had history of blood clots in her lungs and she had been taken off blood thinners just before delivery, so she did not waste time telling the nurses and doctors what to do.
Williams revealed how she walked out of her room while gasping for breath and immediately told a nurse that she needed a CT scan and IV heparin (a blood thinner).
However the doctors were not easily convinced. The nurse thought pain medication might be confusing Williams, while a doctor ordered only an ultrasound of her legs. When nothing was found, they ordered a CT scan.
It turned out Williams was right because there were several small blood clots in her lungs and a heparin drip was started within minutes.
The complications did not end there.
Williams told Vogue, the sutures on her C-section loosened due to her severe coughs from the clots in her lungs. It turned out that the blood thinner they had put her back on to save her life caused bleeding at the C-section incision site and a large hematoma had filled her abdomen.
Another surgery was immediately needed, and a filter was inserted into a major vein so that no more clots would find their way to her lungs. Subsequently, she wasn't able to get out of bed for six weeks.
Williams is not alone with her post-delivery nightmare.
