Well, the reason why Torvald Linux and his ilks are not making money like Mark and Bill Gates is because; (1) a good product doesn't sell itself - the latter guys has better teams (managers, lobbyists, advertisers, marketers, specialist consultants etc) - remember business is all about packaging. (2) Bill and Mark knows their limits, so they had rather steal an idea of a better programmer and modify it .... boom they are up there and made. The bitter truth is that many a time, people who gives their lives inventing products hardly live/have the monopoly to enjoy it.
