You are wrong about animals not having the breath of God. The Theological Wordbook Of The Old Testament states that the basic idea of the Hebrew word spirit roo-akh; and its companion Greek word, Pneuma is air in motion. In living beings, the roo-akh is their breath. In Gen 7:15 the scriptures talked about the breath of life in animals. In Gen7:21-23 breath of life in animals was again mentioned. First of all you open this thread so that others can have their say, so I will say this is more of a debate than argument.
Now back to the topic, the world has never in history experience the kinda population explosion we are experiencing now.
In the time past there are a lot of factors that keeps the human population in check.
1. Some of these include disease and lack of advance health care system.
2. War and infighting among tribal clans. Before the merger of local tribes to form nation and country, there was all war between local clans and of their core weapon is to cut of every male child of their rival, even some animals do practice that today.
3. Stricter sex rule. Before advent of the modern day freedom choice rule, women of old are bind to these strict rules that going against it means death or being punish.
Also if you are wondering how within two to three hundred years the human population could skyrocket, take Nigeria as a case study. Nigeria population according to the 1991 census is around 89 million but it above 170 million, just within a period of about 14 years. Now the population of Nigeria didn't decline at any point but once you remove the limiting factor watch population skyrocket except some measure is taken.
The ever increasing human population is some of the reasons some animals are going extinct because we expanding and encroaching into there natural habitat

First of all, I will like to make it clear that I am a christian but I have become less religious. I was a strong christian when I came to Nairaland but I started losing some faith after spending about a year on the religion section. I still write about religion but I'm not as prolific as I used to be. http://allnaijablog.com/religion

Here are the things I believe causes people to lose faith in the religion section-


1) Excessive materialism;
Some Christians act as if God is Oprah Winfrey- a celebrity that just gives money and free gifts to adoring fans. Worshipping God is much more than reaping materialistic rewards. God does not owe you a government contract, a house or a sports car. So much time and testimonies are spend on preaching and praying for materialistic rewards that some people are turned off religion. What about the enrichment of the soul? The fruits of the spirits? Another dimension of this materialism is the worship of pastors' spending- when pastors buy luxury items (eg porche/ferrari), we see church members jumping and shouting. This brings me to my next point......


2) Worship of pastors instead of God
Some church members are slaves to their pastors. A man old enough to be the father of a young pastor, will be calling his pastor "daddy"! When pastors do wrong things, rather than correcting them, some of their church members on nairaland will be defending them. For instance, we have had people defending pastors who have slapped church members, pastors who have wasted money on luxury items and pastors who have told outright lies.


3) Christians arguing about things they don't know;
Many christians do not know their bible. Many christians do not understand science. This a huge problem on the religion section that atheists are happy to exploit. For instance, we see some christians arguing about evolution being false or claiming that Jesus was a rich man in the bible- both these things are false. Please, we should learn before we criticise


4) Badmouthing and blaspheming against other faiths;
Islam, atheism and paganism. None of the mentioned faiths or beliefs are devil worshipers but some christians treat them as such. Some people turn christianity into identity politics- just because someone is not a christian, they act as if christianity gives them the moral superiority.


5) Tithing;
While this is related to the materialism point, this deserves its own space. Tithing is one of the most single annoying thing that puts one off religion. God does not need a percentage of your money. Why ten percent? Is God now a numerologist? Why not 11 or 25 percent? why is it exactly 10 percent? The tithing issue has become so polarizing that it has caused a great division within christianity.
I personally do not mind giving offering to a church but two conditions must be adherred to- first is to understand that the money is going to the church (and not God) and secondly, it should never be forced on me or anyone. I prefer to give out of my heart than to give a forced percentage.

The Lost Rivers of the Garden of Eden

Where is Eden?

The quest for pinpointing the exact location of the Biblical Garden of Eden and the four rivers almost rivals the quest for the location of fabled Atlantis. And the theories that abound are almost as numerous as the interpretations of the seven days of Genesis. Before tackling this question let's review what is written in Genesis about the four rivers:

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.
(Genesis 2:10-14 KJV)

The Bible says that a single river flowed "out" of Eden and then does something that most rivers DO NOT do; specifically, split into four separate "heads" or rivers that flowed downstream, all fed from a common single river source. Almost all rivers start from a single source or are fed by multiple sources (tributaries). For example, the Ohio River actually begins where two rivers (the Monongahela and Allegheny) flow together at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. The Ohio River terminates when it flows into the Mississippi river as one of that river's many tributaries. So the names of rivers are an arbitrary thing, usually denoting only a portion of a greater complex stream system, with one stream flowing into another, which in-turn, may flow into yet another. This pattern of rivers, as observed in nature, is just the opposite of what the Bible describes about the river of Eden.

For that reason, nobody has been able to look at modern maps of the regions mentioned in Genesis and figure out exactly where the Garden of Eden was, at least by the present topography of the lands of the Middle East. Only one river of the four, the Euphrates, is known by the same name in modern times. It presently originates in the mountains of Turkey and terminates when it merges with the Tigris River near the Iraq/Kuwait border region. Many have speculated that the Tigris is the river Hiddekel.

This has led to speculation that the Garden of Eden was located somewhere in Turkey. This is assumed because the present headwaters of the Euphrates River originate in Turkey, as do the headwaters of the Tigris.

Others have proposed that the other end of the Euphrates River, where it meets the Tigris, may be the true location. This requires interpreting the Tigris river as one of the other three (the Hiddekel), then interpreting a tributary confluence of rivers as a river head, and then locating at least two more rivers (or old river beds) as the other missing two. Having done so, they then claim that the Garden of Eden was near present day Kuwait. This is a convenient solution, but not one supported by the literal wording of the Bible or the geological and geographical realities of what river "head" means, i.e. headwaters or source of origin.

You will notice that the present day headwaters of both the Tigris and Euphrates rivers originate in Tuekey very close to each other in mountainous terrain. Logically, one would assume that if two of the rivers started there, the other two must have done so, as well, if Turkey was the location of Eden. Neither the Pison nor Gihon rivers are ever mentioned again in the Bible. However, the Hiddekel River is:

"And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;"
(Daniel 10:4 KJV)

This reference by the prophet Daniel comes from a vision he had while with the children of Israel during the Babylonian Captivity. This would put Daniel somewhere in the area of present-day Iraq and would make the present-day Tigris river a fairly good candidate for the "Hiddekel" river spoken of by the prophet, as it is the only other great river known in that region today. But the Bible says that this river "that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria" and a historical map of the location of Assyria, shows that the Tigris actually goes southeastward.

Keep in mind that the geographical area known as "Assyria" is not so easy to pin down. Although the Assyrian Empire was centered near Nineveh, the actual empire also extended into what is also present-day Syria and Palestine. However, lacking a better candidate, and knowing that the prophet Daniel was in that geographical area at the time of his visions, the Tigris appears to be the best possible modern-day candidate for the Hiddekel River.

For many years men tried to solve the mystery of the location of the Garden Of Eden but its no longer a mystery. Remember the scriptures said that knowledge shall be increased in the end time? Christian geologists, geographers and scholars have been able to discover the fossils of the lost rivers of eden(River Pison and River Gihon). These two fossil rivers and the other existing two(River Hidekel and River Euphrates) are actually pointing towards one direction: JERUSALEM close to LEBANON. The sciptures in Ezekiel31:3-9 talked about the Assyrian(Lucifer) who once walked in the Garden of God(Eden). Rev 22:1-2 talked about the restoration of the TREE OF LIFE in Jerusalem.

Seasons greetings to every one that reads this. This is actually the very first time I'm creating a thread

So, I want to use this medium to openly renounce my Christian faith. I've been a Christian since the day I was born. Maybe not fully devoted, but I spend quality time praying, fasting and reading the bible on my own. For the past 3yrs, i've experienced unimaginable pain, nothing has worked out for me, and my life seems to be going in circles. I've been praying to God, but havnt got results. Nothing appeals to me anymore. All I think about is suicide and I already got poison. My parents are the reason I haven't taken my life. They would be devastated cause I'm the last child. Money isn't the problem cuz I've tasted money that some working class people have never seen.

Before I joined NL, I never doubted God, but seeing all the hate and negative comments from NL atheists has made me question God. The pain in my heart is too much and I wonder why an omnipotent God would let me or anyone suffer. I dont know why God remembers everyone else but ignores me. For the past one week, I've not prayed because I figured why pray when it won't be answered. So yeah, I've officially dropped Christianity today.

There's Pride in ur heart. What's the point suffering on earth and go to Hell to continue suffering without an end? The scriptures says God is only moved by ur FAITH and not ur TEARS. U will keep suffering if u don't activate ur Faith. Sister pls go to the nearest Christ Embassy Church and explain ur problems to the Pastor there, he will show u the next steps to follow. Life can be enjoyed.
