obejoseph10:It could have been same aircraft but couldn't have been same trip. Mine was Wednesday and Lagos-Ilorin; this is Abuja-Ilorin today, although same airline. |
collynzo2:Agreed. At the same time, events like this always remind you of casual decisions you took/did not take. I never said nor implied anywhere that it took away anything from the fact. |
To think I was on the website of these guys during the week searching for flight for Mrs Jarus on her just-returned trip to Ilorin....and had her to settle for road because the time for departure (7.00am) was too early for a nursing mother coming to Ikeja from Ajah of all places. I pray there are no casualties here.. I have always had my concerns about those small, badly maintained planes used for low-traffic routes in Nigeria (Akure, Ilorin, Yola etc). I boarded one old, rickety aircraft from Lagos to Ilorin few years ago and the sound was like that of Okada. |

These happen in a public/commerical bus, not taxi. |

Students, from all the definitions of Book Keeping given above, you will see that "RECORDING" is common. That is the key word. Bear that in mind in the MCQs in the exam. Recording and transactions are key words to watch out for. For accounting, if asked to define, the key words you will watch out for in the objectives are, classifying, summarising, presenting and communicating. (sometimes one or two similar words may be used, or one or two of these may be missing. Communicating is hardly missing though. These are things you will watch of in the objectives. |
My set (OAU 2006) had the record of the highest number of first class in any Nigerian university as at that time (84). It must have been broken the year after. I don't know whether this one has been broken too, my class (OAU Economics 2006) had the highest number of first class in a single class in the history of Nigerian university when we graduated. 15 people made First Class. |
He should be thanking God he was not crushed. Many people have died from similar incidents. |
Microflux, sorry I didn't read the instruction. Will copy to the right thread when i'm mentioned. |
In our next class by the grace of God, I will be taking "source documents". |

TOPIC 1 - Book Keeping vs Accounting Book keeping is the recording of transactions as they occur. Accounting is the systematic analysis, summarising, presentation and communication of financial or cost information to aid decision making. When it is financial information that is being processed, it is financial accounting, when it is cost information, it is called cost accounting. At JAMB level, focus will be more on financial accounting. You don't need to cram, just digest and know the key words: Key words Book keeping: recording, transactions Accounting: processing, sumarizing, classifying, communicating, information, decision making. You may not find the definitions in the MCQ verbatim but these key words will guide you to know what the answer is. Practical Learning Aid When you enter a shop and buy a pen, you see the sales girl writing down the name and price of biro bought in a book, that is book keeping. When the accountant comes in the evening and classifies the total value of items sold into sales ledger, and items left in the shop as stock, that is accounting (although low level accounting) So anytime you enter the shop, take note of these. |
INTRODUCTORY CLASS Let me confess that I did not do Account in my JAMB, because I hated Accounting then. Throughout university, I still hated accounting and did not go near Accounting Department for borrowed courses in my four years of studying Economics in the university. I however wrote ICAN ( the accounting professional exam) during my service year and qualified as a chartered accountant. I work as an accountant today. So my lecture will be more of practical. There are two aspects of accounts - theory and calculations. JAMB will want to give you more theory and less calculation because they know you have little time in the exam hall. The calculations will also be simple because they won't want you to spend all your time on one question. So bear that in mind. |
Good evening Class. I just to know about this school today. Today being Friday, I will be teaching Account as put on the Time Table. |
I offer to teach English and Accounting. |
funkybully:Mumu. Bring one post from a Muslim that says that. The truth is, we Muslims don't go around saying, because we believe in Allah, I reject it, and misfortune can never happen to us. That is a offshoot of prosperity teaching of you guys. We are expressly told in the Qur'an that we will be tested with misfortune (loss of lives, children, wealth etc). While we pray not to experience misfortune, if it so happens, it never reduces our faith, neither does it reduce the mightiness of Allah. It is not in our creed that just because we're Muslims, we'll have it smooth all through (basis of prosperity preaching). Yes, many Muslims people have it smooth all through, but it is never the basis of faith in our religion. Bad things can happen to anyone. |
ProfessorPeter:Worse was actually done to Obasanjo in 1998 when was contesting for 1999 elections. He was locked in toilet. |

ellalina:I disagree with you. For the first, 'development' is not necessarily positive. Have you heard of 'developing story'? Developing stories are ironically usually (though not necessarily) negative As for the second, in fact, the opposite of what you said is the correct thing. But is meant to mean what join the first phrase with what is not obvious or what is the natural flow of occurrence. For example, you wrote: They had an accident but they are fine. This is correct. When one has an accident, the ordinary, almost natural thing to follow is that "you are not fine (as a result of the accident)". But when it does not follow the ordinary consequence, you use "but" to connect the phrases, "but they are fine". This is my own opinion too, formed through observation of usage over time, not something I sat down and learnt in any English grammar class. But I think it has more likelihood of being correct than your explanations up there. |
I'm not a fan PDP, in fact I hate them, but I must say traditional rulers are not meant to be openly partisan. This coming from Oba is a low. |
This was a routine and probably one of the most basic forms of punishment in our days. |
A good political calculation in my opinion Dakuku is a decent guy that has made a name for himself in the House. Being a brother to Atedo Peterside, a friend of the President and PDP sympathiser, also makes it interesting. That said, I'm not hopeful of PDP losing in Rivers in 2015. |
majorfarms:My friend confirmed Don Jazzy was 33. I have no reason to disbelieve him. |
watchindelta:This is not comprehensible enough. But I guess you meant my colleague was lying about his age too. Smh. What does he gain from lying about his age? Someone that got job immediately after leaving the university. He's only 1 year older than I am. He doesnt look older than his age. |
Yomieluv:My colleague that was his classmate in the secondary school is 33. It is not out of range that Don Jazzy is 32. I believe him. |
I have not been to an interview where many people were waiting, so I didn't notice that. Most of the interviews I have attended, it's either only me scheduled for that time (others would have come earlier or later) or max 3 of us waiting at the same time. But typically, I don't like putting myself under pressure just before interview. So while waiting, I alternate between browsing NL from my phone, reading newspaper or quiet, intermittent chat with anyone around (receptionist, co-interviewee if any). |
I don't think he will make a good Rep, but I like this creative way he's going about his ambition. |
Yomieluv:Smh |
tyconcepts:Where is the pressure? Who pressurised him to borrow money? Dint he know the account was not funded before issuing the cheques? |
koikoi2:And some people south here who have never stepped out of their village will open their mouth and derogatorily call him "gworo-chewing, cattle-rearing abonki", thinking their southernness is enough to make them superior. |
duni04:Stop saying this rubbish. Seun could easily buy Range 2 years ago! ![]() |
