texazzpete:
In other words, Sanusi should have toed Soludo's line and turned a blind eye to all the shenanigans in the banking sector because 'power is transient'.

I wonder if you lot will EVER be honest enough to admit to yourselves that your antipathy towards Sanusi is simply due to his tribe. The same people condemning our 'greedy politicians' and advocating a 'rawlings solution' are the ones lambasting Sanusi.
This is where I also have problem with most of Sanusi critics. The only reason they criticize him is that he is from a 'gworo chewing, cattle-rearing tribe'. To them, nothing good can come from an 'awusa' man. If he had been from a tribe in the South, he would have called a fearless genius!
Business › Re: Sanusi Says: Bank CEO's Should Be Tied To Stake And Shot Dead. by Jarus(m): 2:30pm On Oct 25, 2009
I'm unapologetically pro-Sanusi, and I have argued endlessly, including on pages of newspapers, on my belief in the current banking reforms and the stupidity of the northern agenda claim. In fact I just finished reading his interview with Vanguard: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/10/24/clampdown-on-banks-god-would-not-have-forgiven-me-if-we-did-not-strike-—-sanusi-lamido-sanusi/comment-page-5/#comments

I'm however not impressed with this 'tie them to stake and shoot them' statement. I was driving to this place this morning when I saw that screaming headline in most newspapers frontpages as the vendors flashed the papers to me. What immediately came into my mind was nairaland: "Oh, why is Sanusi saying this? This is another debate that would have started on NL" Expectedly, I opened NL to see the topic already in second page.

Well, I think Sanusi went overboard saying that, but that has not diminished my belief in his sanitization drive.

Surprised there are Yorubas in SL.

Even more surprising is the fact that the 'erudite' Yoruba historian and grand commander of NL Yoruba forces, Becomrich, has not commented here.  I expected BCR to have discovered and mentioned this all this while. Or did his oracle, sorry satellite maps, fail him? Or has he gone into hiding for the 'death threats'?

The truth is yet to be said. Those CEO's were handpicked for execution. Tell me which CEO is innocent of corruption. Its all a political thing.

Am sorry for Naija. That senseless CBN Sanusi should return to cow rearing cos he knows NOTHING about banking.

SAnusi only has a Degree in Risk Management and Sharia Law

He has NO knowledge in Banking.

Tell me when it will end!
Where will one start arguing with somebody like this? Somebody who doesn't even know the course Sanusi read in the university with all the news? Someone who says somebody that rose to become bank CEO is not a banker?

When I wrote my latest articleAN ENGAGEMENT WITH TWO SANUSI CRITICS (Sun Newspaper, Wednesday 14 October, 2009, backpage) I thought I had seen it all. I never even knew there was another critic that didn't know the field Sanusi had degree in.
Nairaland General › Re: Nairaland Versus Facebook by Jarus(m): 5:47pm On Oct 22, 2009
They serve different purposes entirely. FB is for social networking,NL is for discussions on various topics and issues.
Naturally, people prefer fun and funky places,FB has this more than NL.
Personally, if I'm asked to choose one of FB and NL, I'll go for NL because it makes my day more than FB.
With due respect, I know alot of people who will not join NL just because they are less intellectually inclined and can't argue or debate. They prefer fun-filled FB.
Conversely, some other people, especially the elderly and well-read, prefer FB to NL for that same reason-that is, NL is just full of young guys and gals that are too 'small' for them to engage in intellectual argument. This is why we have the likes of Pat Utomi,Bella Adenuga and some Senators on FB. I was surprised when i saw one Punch columnist, Joe Adeyeye, quote NL in one of his weekly articles.

By the way,I personally gain more from and so prefer NL to FB, but I know many Nigerians,by our nature(flashy, colourful etc), will prefer FB to NL.
Islam › Re: Abuzola: What Is Your Suspicion About Me? by Jarus(m): 3:18pm On Oct 22, 2009
This is most unexpected and I'm really shocked.
Sincerely, Abuzola needs to check his flagrant arrogation of ahlus Sunnah to himself, and careless ascription of heretism to others. This self righteousness could be destructive. An easy way to derailment is to seal one's mind to the belief that only one is absolutely correct. I moved with ahlus-sunnah brothers while in the university. I hardly read any other Islamic material except those written by Ahlus-Sunnah scholars. I don't do bid'ah and try as much as possible to uphold sunnah. So I'm also not new to ahlus sunnah, and try to be one, as I'm convinced the only path to salvation is to follow the prophet's footsteps(sunnah).

You claim to be an ahlus sunnah,Abuzola, and I'm convinced you are one, but the challenge I have with you is that you act, at times, in ways incongruent with the Sunnah. Is suspicion Sunnah? Is careless throwing of insults sunnah?

Sincerely, to me, Muhsin comes across as a better ahlus Sunnah. I have followed Muhsin well enough on this section to know he's an ahlus sunnah(Oh, I hate to say all these, lest ahlus sunnah is confused as a sect). His utterances, his efforts, his thinking system(aqeedah) are more reconciliable with ahlus sunnah belief. This is why I'm surprised you are accused Muhsin, of all people, of heretic belief. Remember, not all ahlus sunnah are radical. Some ahlus sunnah condemn al-qeedah etc, some don't. I will not dismiss a person as not ahlus Sunnah just because he speaks against Osama, alqeedah etc. These are not fundamental issues under which a person's creed are evaluated, although you can infer one or two things from a person's aqeedah from issues like this.

The aspect I find most gobsmacking in your plethora of tantrums is the ease with which you dismiss other Muslims here. It is most nauseating and smacks of self-righteousness.

A word is enough for the wise.

Sports › Re: Can Rabiu Ibrahim Fit In Okocha's Shoes? by Jarus(m): 8:22pm On Oct 18, 2009
The guy can fit into JJ's shoes. He, to me, is a better player than Mikel. Accurate passes, deft touches, good turning, attack minded, great dribbling skills. His major weakness, however, is his strenght. He can be easily pushed aside. If he had the shot and strenght of Lukman Haruna, then a new JJ has come.

But while we believe he has the potential to be the new JJ, we must not forget that we have had other players that shone like that in youth tournaments and ended not flopping at the national level. Mikel comes handy here.

Politics › Re: Ibrahim Agboola Gambari? by Jarus(op): 5:26pm On Oct 09, 2009
First and foremost,Gambari, with such exposure, will not relegate himself to the level of speaking for a tribe. Here is a man that has represented the whole world in installing peace in countries like Angola,Myammar etc.
Like any other Ilorin man(Saraki,Idiagbon and co) however, their tribal affiliation is usually complex and fraught with politics. Gambari is an Ilorin prince and he was one of the favourites for the emirship position with the current emir. I can't say categorically which tribe Ibrahim lays claim to whether Yoruba or Fulani, forget about the names Agboola and Gambari, Olusola Saraki also says he's Fulani.

I think Ibrahim Gambari has gone past all those tribal politics but I don't know whether he's Yoruba or Fulani.

I was just doing some research on wikipedia now and buzzed into this man's profile, even he's not new to me.
This man is Nigeria's gift to international community. Arguably, our number 1 international citizen now. He has been used by UN in peace missions in other nations, even though we don't seem to appreciate his value at home.

Can this man rise to become UN SecGen? This may be difficult, given that two Africans just occupied the post in succession, but we cannot rule it out.
Sports › Nigeria And Ten Men Curse by Jarus(op): 10:36pm On Oct 07, 2009
Is it a curse that anytime Nigerian national teams play against 10 man opposing side, they always end up losing. This is embarrassing. In Mali 2002, the SE lost to a 10 man Senegal team in the semi final. In Ghana 2008, they lost again to a 10 man Ghana. Now the FE have again lost to a 10 man German team. What is the cause of this? What should be an advantage always end up against us. Could this as a result of lack of tactics by our national team handlers or overzealousness of the players? This is serious and embarrassing!

I personally believe anything can happen in this match. I can't put my money on the boys, but football could be funny at times.

The difference between this team and Tella's team, to me, is lack of effective, skilful wingers and a proven striker. In other words, Chrisantus, Ganiyu Oseni and Kabiru Akinsola are the missing link.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: David Villa, Samuel Eto'o Ro Zlatan Ibrahimovic by Jarus(m): 11:20am On Oct 04, 2009
The issue of Eto'o has been overdiscussed in NL and other discussion forums since 2004.
Here are topics on it in 2005: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=19881.0;viewResults, https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-8893.0.html, https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-253406.0.html, https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-787.0.html etc

But have you sat down and wondered why Eto'o is the only recurring decimal in World's best strikers debate since 2004? In 2004-2006, he was being compared with Henry and Shevchenko as world's best striker. Later, around 2006/2007, he was being compared with Drogba, Toni and co as world's best striker. Now, he still surfaces in the list of world best striker, drawing comparison with Villa, Torres,Ibra and co. Class is indeed permanent.

On current form, I will not say Eto'o is the best striker in the world. But on he was obviously the best striker in the world 2006/2008 except the time he was on injury.

One funny thing about Eto'o underraters is the quick reference they make to players around him in acknowledging his success as a striker as if there is a player who doesn't depend on other team mates. Before their argument was that Eto'o was scoring goals because he had Ronnie and Deco behind him. When Ronnie left and Samu continued to bang in goals, the argument changed to it was because of Xavi and Iniesta. The fact is Eto'o was as important to Barca then as Ronnie. In fact, Eto'o was voted by fans as Barcelona player of the season in 2004/2005 season ahead of Ronaldinho.

You need to watch Eto'o at Mallorca. How he singlehanded demolished Real Madrid in Kings cup final and also saved the club from relegation in 2003/2004 season. You also missed the point by saying Eto'o did not score more than 20 goals in a season in Mallorca. He scored 21 goals in his last season in the club. I watched his last seasons in Mallorca and saw his games agianst RM. There was a goal he scored by dribbling all RM defenders, including Carlos. He was then a specialist in scoring against Madrid that the dean himself, Zizzou, made a comment about how Eto'o, their player, alawys scored against them. That was vintage Eto'o at Mallorca.

In confederation club in 2003(I think), you also need to see how Eto'o wrecked Brazil with a very wonderful long range shot.

Eto'o, for your information, is all-time highest goalscorer in African cup of nations(and he will still score more, he's young enough to play two more ANCs).

So I wonder whether Ronaldinho, Deco, Iniesta or Xavi were the ones supplying the passes to him in Mallorca and Cameroun.

If he was outstanding in Mallorca and Cameroun, it was only natural that he'll be great in Barcelona.

And to add this too. Eto'o is a big game player, scoring two crucial champion league final goals, and they were no tap-in. Both were goals that he still had at least a defender to beat before scoring.

Let's give it to Eto'o. He is a great striker.
