Down with fever since Wednesday evening, so I was totally off NL yesterday. Just opened NL now and saw the mudslinging that went on among Mukina, Uplawal and Abuzola while I was away. I have deleted their posts. If the mutual dissing continues, I may lock this thread. Thanks |
These are not peculiar to NL. They are nigerian internet slangs generally. |
Haba Jarus, doubting having 5 active nairalanders in Katsina and Sokoto? Anyway i'm one from Katsina + deezah who equally resides @ Katsina this makes the number =2. Therefore nairalanders of KT & SO, show your self out please, Wishing all Happy Sallah and stay in peace.@ Geoge_D Have u ever been to Katsina b4? But as i don chop my sallah delight finish, let me invite u in advance to join me by Eid-El Kabir and take a full half of my rago (sallah ram) as an important visitor. See u when u get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No problems. I will be in Sokto for two weeks in November insha Allah. |
@Abuzola, I had been off-NL since afternoon. Just saw ur request that I provide proof of your calling other Muslim names. I'm posting from phone Now,so can't type much. To reply you tomorrow insha Allah. |
Abuzola:I stand with you in getting annoyed when blasphemous statements are being made about Allah and His prophet(PBUH). I have said this up there. But that is not the only reason why you are 'in mess'. You attack everybody that doesn't agree with you. You freely call other Muslims hypocrites and other names. So, get it, your 'mess' is not because you 'fire back on the unbelievers'. Two, know ye that ahlus sunnah is not by mouth. Some of your behaviours are un-sunnatic. The earlier you realize, the better about invocation, you think my invocation is a joke ? Don't try me mr man. Am not a fool, i report to Allah when am oppressedLOL. . . nobody is oppressing. You are the one acting childishly. I'm sorry, this sounds like a display of cheap spirituality. Do you have monoply over Allah? Who doesn't report to Allah when oppressed? The holy Prophet said there is no obstruction or delay in the invocation of an opressed. We know. But who is oppressing who here? |
A house divided against itself. Jarus abi Virus,
You too, don't call my name again. Abuzola:Tell me: -Is seeing your tribe/region as superior to another in Islam right? -Is calling a Muslim a hypocrite without verifying facts right? -Is abusing a fellow Muslim carelessly right? -is seeing your religious opinions as absolutely truth right? You are surely mixing up good deeds with bad deeds and the most unfortunate part is that you appear self-opinionated and hardly gives room for correction. You need to examine yourself. |
Abuzola:Dude, some of your behaviours are incongruous to teachings of Sunnah. Watch it. As for the creed you accuse me, wallayi i won't let any puppet go scott free i will invoke Allah and we will see. Your stupidity has made you forget that 'enemy within' is the most dangerous and easy to destroy us, with my campaign i have to secure myself with Supplication because of people like you.You are fond of saying this and it's annoying. You said same to me sometime ago. You boast of invoking Allah on someone as if you are the only one that worships Allah. You boast of doing supplication as if no one lese is spiritual. You are a joke. I am a northerner and am not amazed with the way the southerner take Islam as child play, i live here in the south and ican tell you that most southerners are careless about Islam. You are angry that accuse the sultan of deceiving us right ? The north aught to have observed their fasting and eid prior to the south, the sultan delayed it and merge it wth the south. So far those who have been pointing finger at me are southerner so it makes no difference. . .and you said you are ahlus-sunnah. Too bad. Statement like this will not come from a true ahlus-sunnah. Read the prophet's last sermon and get back to me. This is too bad. Using tribe as yardstick for faith. my Prophet is inrulted and i tell you i can go to any limit to prevent that from happening, i can die because of Prophet Muhammad, its you people who gave the cross worshipper the guts to utter blaspheme let them even dare it in the north.Much as I would have gone with you here, the addition of 'north' spoiled the whole thing. |
@Olanajm Much as I am also a victim of Abuzola's unguided comments, including opening threads and calling me hypocrite etc, I don't subcribe to throwing the baby away with the bathwater. I will never act to please anybody. I try as much as possible to say it the way it is. Yes, Abuzola has many times displayed habits and uttered statements uncharacteristic of a caller to Islam, including calling you stupid up there, but I still maintain my stand that I will not stop whoever has the gut to go tit-for-tat with the Osisis and Noetics of this world. You use soft approach when situation demands, and I don't see anything bad in replying the hard way to whoever gives you the hard way. We can not all be gentle! You have already passed fatwa on Abuzola as not a Muslim, just as he also declared me and Mukina Munafiqun sometime ago. But I personally don't care about internet ramblings. I'm struggling to believe you are not acting on somebody's prompting! |

Olanajm, I think you went overboard. Abuzola, I agree, goes to the extreme sometimes. He has opened not less than 3 threads on me, lampooning me and throwing all sorts of tantrums at me. He even declared me a hypocrite being used by non-Muslim owners of NL. He accused me, wrongly, of banning, when I had and still have no power to ban. I have personally taken him on before. I made a long post titled ABUZOLA: A SYLLABUS OF GOOD INTENTION, WRONG METHODOLOGY somewhere here before. In the most recent laceration he launched on me, I was tempted to write another long piece I wanted to title BETWEEN PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN AND INTERNET DAWAH: INTROSPECTING THE MIND OF ABUZOLA where I had intended to call his bluffs, but then I remembered an earlier advice by another nairalander, Fellis, and I just warned him that 'if I descend on you, you will hate yourself' and he apologized. I especially find disappointing your statement that one nairalander that has called Allah and our Prophet(PBUH) all sorts of names, and whose primary responsibility here since 2006 has been to mock Islam, a better person than Abuzola. You are surely entitled to your opinion, but I definitely will not take that. Yes, Abuzola is a young man, and sometimes, his youthful exuberance comes to play in his actions. He is one hardliner and his approach to Da'awah sometimes drifts from prophetic methodology. But with the Davidylans, Neotics, Tudors etc uttering all sorts of blasphemies, not all of us can be gentle on them. For every Abuzola, there is a Davidylan, Osisi, and Noetic. I have cautioned Abuzola many times, sent him PMs, warned him etc, but instead of yielding he resorted to calling me names. But as a leader, I have to apply wisdom in dealing everybody. Finally, I cannot let the desire to get approval from some people dissuade me from saying the truth. Weighed against the Davidylans and Osisis, Abuzola's scale of misdeeds dwarfs. |
@ Olanajm et Abuzola, Softly, softly. Enough of the mudslinging. |
deezah:Wa alaikum salam, I mentioned those places because they are where we have many Nairalanders, and by extension, Muslim ones. I doubt if we can get 5 active nairalanders in Sokoto or Katsina. This is why it will not be feasible for now. |
Now, who killed Bayo Ohu? This is serious! |
AFEEFA:Word on the marble |
AFEEFA:Me too o |
davidylan:1. I don't know what your quote has got to do with my statement. Being 'takfired' is being declared a disbeliever for holding and voicing out dangerous opinion that negates the fundamental belief of a Muslim eg saying, under a sane mind, that Salat is not five and believing same. Shehu Sani has said things in the past that negate fundamental beliefs of a Muslim. I am not referring to his statement on Gani's burial. That is even minor compared to things he had uttered in the past. davidylan:I was talking about Shehu Sani's ideology generally and it is definitely not out of place to set the type of person he is as a background for evaluating his assertion. davidylan:I don't care about Gani's private decision. I have even refrained from actively participating in the discussion on the way he was buried until Noetic made that wrong deduction. But the Prophet said 'If you see evil, correct it with your hand, if you can't correct it with your hand, correct it with your tongue(i.e speak against it), if you can't do that, then correct it with your mind(i.e dislike it), and that is the weakest of faith". Gani's burial was unislamic and it is my duty to at least dislike the process. davidylan:No, giving that order, he is still liable for giving an order that he knew contradicts Allah's injunction, but the Children would have saved their head, and perhaps make it easier for their father to be forgiven, if they had not carried out his unIslamic order. Finally, this is no passing any judgment on Gani. It's just pointing out flaws in the burial order he gave. In asmuch as it is not Shirk, any shortcoming is forgivable by Allah. It is our prayers that Allah overlook his shortcomings and admit him into al-jannah and forgive the family too for disobeying Allah to obey their father. |
illusion2:Is Nigeria a secular or Multi-religious state? Please somebody should enlighten me. The last time I checked there is 'SO HELP ME GOD' in our National Pledge. |
Oga, still waiting for your compilation o ![]() |
@Noetic, Want a summary source of my assertions especially where he said after God and prophet Muhammad, picture in the midst of alfas etc, pick Tuesday, 15-09-09 of ThisDay wt a special 8-page feature of Gani's past interviews. |
I have tried, what would you say about me?Very excellent analysis there, pcicero! I always feel at home discussing with like-analytical-minds. I agree with most of your submissions. However, i would not place Simon Kolawole as number One. I think his closeness to Segun Adeniyi has an effect on some of his write ups. I hold the same opinion of him but i think he gets too carried away and whips up unnecessary sentiments sometimes (i.e ThisDay on Sunday 13-09-2009 "Do Yorubas hate Arik?"What I actually admire about Simon is his simple and straight forward analysis. Add sense of humour and detribalized nature to that and you will have a quintessential Simon Kolawole. He is still a junior columnist compared to veterans like Duro Onabule, Edwin Madunagu, Reuben Abati, Haruna Mohammed, Kola Animashaun but his analyses of issues are usually thought provoking. In fairness to him, I don't think his closeness to Segun Adeniyi has deterred him from baring his mind on the Yar'adua administration. Luke Onyekayekah always sounds too technical. He writes mostly on UN MGDPs i.e affordable water, global warming etc. Edwin Madunagu is quintessential, a friend of none and higly independent minded but glorifies the ruthless Leninists at times. He possesses an unrivalled dialetical ability, and not given to trivialities. Another Guardian writer, Banji Adisa should have made your list. He is also interesting.Yes, Luke Onyekayekah was the guy I tried recalling his surname in my first analysis. He is too technical. You are very observant. You also spoke my mind in all the qualities of Edwin Madunagu you mentioned from not discussing trivialities to his leninist bend. I hardly read both of them because the issues they discuss hardly interest me. Most times, I just glance through first and last paragraphs of their columns, but I think I read Edwin more. I read Banji Adisa too but can't decipher his mind. But like other Guardian columnists, he also sounds too serious and technical and sometimes boring. Azu Punch is still powerful but i think his designation takes most of his time now. Casmir too is very good, doesn't mince words. Joseph Adeyeye is budding and very interesting. He doesn't assume too much. Yomi Odunuga was just writing Abuja notes then i think.I reason with you, Azu's 'dip in form' may not be unconnected to his recent elevation that sees him running all the Punch titles. I believe he's just struggling with time to write now. His piece in 2006 after the series of air mishaps, titled BLOOD IN THE SKIES and another masterpiece titled DARE TO TAKE ON YOUR LEGISLATOR, written sometime around 2006 too, remain the best I have read from him. The guy is too much. Joseph Adeyeye is still upcoming let's wait and see whether he will stand teh test of time. He comes to NL, I know. You're spot on on Casmir too. The Duro Onabules, Dimgba Igwe, Mike Awoyinfa, Femi Adeshina are sometimes limited by their employers, I suppose.I agree with you. These guys just have to do the bidding of Kalu or at least the editor will 'edit' their writings. Dele Momodu with all due respect because as an Undergraduate then at Ife, he was our role model. But now, i think what he does most times is to write about the countries he has visited, the cuisines he had been priviledged to consume etc. I also think his Ovation Magazine helps promote the get-rich quick syndrome, a precursor to corruption , drug trafficking, money laundering etc. in Nigeria.Good to know you are also a 'Great Ife'. I was a core Awoite and the most consistent columnist with 'Economic Insight', the Press outfit of my department from 2003-2006. Dele is also Great Ife. I share same opinion with you on him. Which set were you in Ife? Mohammed Haruna is truly intelligent but with the likes of Jega, you would think Daily Trust was founded just to antagonize OBJ just like Tinubu's The Nation can't be taken too serious, some of the writers are sectional and lopsided in their thinking.Much as the paper is struggling to be truly national, Daily Trust truly appears to be a Northern newspaper but Its reportage of Abuja news is the best. It is the paper that keeps me updated about what si happening in Abuja. I also have a 'crush' for Sokoto since I served there a couple of years ago, and DT serves me news from my third home(Kwara is my first home, Lagos second and Sokoto third). Jega is very brilliant and good with words. Haruna is also a wordsmith, but more senior and experienced, having been in the business of journalism for about three decades. I don't however think Jega is that lopsided. It is Haruna that fits that description more. Haruna is an unrepentant defender of the north. There was a time he and Dare Olatunji exchanged diatribes over June 12 issues in their respective columns. It was an interesting challenge and I followed their war of columns for weeks then. I know Prof. GbadegesinThe Nation, he is my namesake, a former lecturer at OAU. His junior brother was my lecturer too. He's an Harvard Professor of African Studies. But you can't help noticing the Afenifere agenda and anti-PDP sentiments in his write-ups.So Gbadegesin was a former Ife lecturer. Good to know that. Finally, if you can't list your top 10, who will you give the prize to as Nigeria's best columnist in your opinion? |
Nezan: Nezan:
Gani matter is still disturbing una for here?
In hope you saw that the person that started the discussion is not a Muslim. |
noetic2: noetic2:Gani, due to his radical nature surely erred in his ordering that his burial be delayed, but you clearly missed it by interpreting that action to mean he had doubts about the authenticity of Allah and Muhammad(SAW). Gani, due to his weak Islamic understanding, felt it will not be ok for the masses he had fought for not to see his dead body before being buried, and felt he should be buried in a 'modern Islamic way'(his words). This is surely wrong but obviously due to a weak understanding of Islam. He himself said he should be buried in a modern 'Islamic' way, meaning till death, he recognized and accepted Islam as his religion. He added Islam to the way he wanted to be buried, even though there are no two ways about it. No altering the laid down rules in an attempt tp 'modernize'; that is how it had been and should be. While Gani's being a Muslim does not add or take anything away from Islam, as we don't need a Gani to authenticate Islam for us, I want to give you 10 reasons why Gani was a Muslim. 1. Gani added Islam to the way he shoud be buried till point of death, even though his radical nature made him try to strike a balance between Islamic burial and his wishes(which he called 'modern Islamic burial'), but pitiably, he was wrong. 2. Gani swore in courts so many times with Qur'an 3. When asked what he usually took along when going to prison, he mentioned Qur'an in addition to other items. If he didn't believe in Qur'an he would have thought of including it in his prison items 4. When a ThisDay reporter, Simon Kolawole, asked him about his commitment to the 5 pillars of Islam in an interview in 2003, he answered he tried as much as possible observe his five daily prayers, fast during Ramadan and sponsor many people to Hajj every year. It takes conviction for a radical minded Gani to bow down and pray and deny himself food because of an order from Somebody he did not see. The Gani we all knew will not do what he wasn't convinced of. count Gani out of wanting to please anybody. 5. Gani openly stated in a newspaper interview that he was a Muslim that believed in Islam, in Allah, in Prophet Muhammad and in Qur'an but 'not a fanatical Muslim'. 6. Gani also stated publicly in a newspaper interview that he laid down a rule in his household that none of his male children should leave Islam. You will call this a breach of freedom of religion. A Gani that did not believe in Islam will not give such rule in his family and be bold and unapologetic enough to tell a newspaper reporter. He gave female the freedom to marry from any religion, but the male should never convert from Islam. 7. In another interview, Gani stated that 'after God and Prophet Mohammed, teh next person is my mother'. We all know teh extent to which he loved his late mother. May a Muslim will even forget to mention Prophet Mohammed and quickly say 'after God, teh next person is so so person(wife, mother etc)'. Not even teh spur of the moment made him to forget Prophet Mohammed's position. For a Gani to be conscious enough of putting Prophet Mohammed above his dear mother, shows he consciously believed in Prophet Muhammad. 8. Did you see the picture of his 70th birthday last year? He organized an Islamic prayer and his picture, holding Tesbih(Islamic rosary), bare footed, sitting in the midst of alfas, was in ThisDay newspaper. 9. His elder sister died earlier this year and he ordered that she buried without delay in Islamic manner. This means he believed in Islamic burial system but due to his love for masses, he felt his own body should be delayed so that the masses he fought for can see his corpse. This surely is wrong. 10. His children confirmed that Gani was a Muslim till death. Again, we do not a Gani to endorse Islam for us, and in fact I had tried all thsi while to be silent on the flaws in Gani's burial but Noetic's assertion that 'for Gani to have denounced the Islamic burial implies that he had his doubts about everything islamic' pushed words out of my mouth. I'm back to my spectator stands. |
Abuzola:Shehu Sani is not and doesn't claim to be a cleric. He is one human rice activist from the north. |
davidylan:No, Takfir means declared an unbeliever. davidylan:Who doesn't understand Marxism? It's a pity how people jump into conclusion without having full knowledge of something. Did I tell you he was a Marxist because of his opinion on Gani's burial? This was somebody I had known for years and followed his writings and comments. He is an avowed Marxist. His Islamic ideology is heretical and his comments on Islamic issues have always been misleading and contradictory to what is known in Islam. Hypocritically, he is always quick to add 'I am a Muslim' when making such stupid statements and many media houses are quick to interview and quote him anytime there is a burning national Islamic/Muslim issue, knowing full well that his comments will deviate from what is known in Islam. Late Bala Usman(the leading northern Marxist), Tajudeen AbdulKareem(died in Kenya early this year), Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, and to some extent Lamido Sanusi(now CBN governor) are other northern intellectuals with radical mind and lean towards Marxism. Sanusi however claims he is not a Marxist but only employ Marxist philosophy in his writings. So David, I know Shehu Sani very well, and I did not expect less from him on teh Gani issue. davidylan:I'm really disappointed in your not understanding my point in that sentence. What is ambiguous in that? I guess you did not read the newspaper story Funmi posted which was the background of this thread. Sheu was using some people in Egypt, Morocco, Syria etc to justify the delayed burial of Gani and I said the people he was mentioning were no authorities in Islam. So they can also err. I don't know what's ambiguous in that for you to misinterprete my statement. How can gani be a prophet! ![]() davidylan:Oh my God, where has common sense gone this afternoon? Did you read the papers at all? Did you listen to or read Gani's children interview at all? This is worrying. So you have not heard that Gani was the one that ordered that his burial be delayed? Wasn't that a break of rule(before he died)? This is serious. ![]() |
Not heard officially, but saw from the Facebook status of a friend up north that the moon has been sighted. |
On the other issues Shehu Sanni raised, nobody is denying the fact that Gani contributed to humanity more than most of these Islamic scholars. We are not discounting his gargantuan contribution to the uplift of the poor masses and the enthronement of a just society. But this does not mean objection should not be raised to where he or his family erred. Once again, we pray for him. |
Much as I hate to use insultive words, I dare say Shehu Sanni is a fool. I have known him for long and I don't take his utterances seriously. He wrote one stupid book on Sharia sometime ago and the book was banned. He it was who was also spewing balderdash during the man-with-86-wives incident. In ideal Islamic society, Sheu Sanni would have been takfired . I have doubts over his still being a Muslim with the kind of belief he harbours and utterances from his mouth in the last few years. Let him continue with his marxist thinking. He is a disservice to Islam. Now to the issue, all the people he mentioned were not prophets or sahaabah or authorities in Islam. We don't care about them. The rule for the rightness or wrongness of an action in Islam is simple: what does Allah say? What did the prophet say or do or approve? With regards to burying a dead Muslim, the rule is simply to bury immediately, without delay or if circumstances do not allow immediate burial, it should not go beyond next day. We don't care on who contravenes this rule and any attempt to justify deliberate delay of burial could lead one out of Islam. May Allah forgive Gani for breaking that rule. |

,d problem non-muslims have with this and 'sharia implementation' in a supposedly secular country like ours,is the promotion of one religion over the other. . . . . Everybody loves his religion & is protective of his/her beliefs. When we begin to throw our faith around in a supposedly non-religious environment. . . . THERE LIES THE PROBLEM.
