proffemi: There is a simpler explanation: perhaps Nigerians have always been self-entitled. However, when our population was manageable, we could sustain the illusion from our petroleum. Now that our population is getting out of control, we can no longer afford to continue pretending.Actually, there is nothing wrong in that. I've made my stand clear, if the government makes a judicious use of previous withdrawn interventions such as the fuel subsidy and do other things it should, we wouldn't be bothered with University funding or tuition whatever because we would have loads of alternatives to University education. But as it stands, it's the only opportunity majority has to get to the top. The change has to start from the government because it has all the needed resources. Starting it from us - by introducing tuition and other unnecessary fees - would cut off the development because we do not (and should not) trust them. We would see any of their plans to get from us as another scam - and so it has been. |
@proffemi, on the OAU issue, on whose side are you? Ours or theirs? Why? |
proffemi: At the height of the SLS saga, I was one of those crying that it should not be swept under the rug IF $20 billion was missing. Do you know for a FACT that $20 billion was missing? I mean, I would be happy to believe that someone loaned N1B from my dad, and so, owes me that amount. But is it TRUE? We do first have to get to that point first. Not bad o. And that's what we've been doing, but they still want us to pay more, sooner or later, we pay everything. And not that they will use the part they withdraw in anything public service - they load their accounts the more. This we all know. Same thing happened to the fuel subsidy. It's high time we desist from theories that has never worked and would never work in Nigeria. |
proffemi: Government should this, government should that.We clamour for government interventions because we pay taxes and we've not received anything significant in return. What do I say we get in return? Is it stable electricity? Infrastructures? Good health care services? No. But what they want now is to still withdraw the little we get from them instead of improving on it. We have 67 public Universities, there are not-up-to-30,000 students in each, if it costs N500,000 per annum to cater for each student's tuition - excluding accomodation and feeding. If we calculate this in total, it results in N1.005 trillion. This is just a token out of the missing $20b. And pls, don't talk about our annual budget, it's not up to what they loot/mismanage in 6 months. |
proffemi: How much is this "oil money" you guys keep talking about? If you need to be educated, why don't you do a Google search for the GDP of every big petroleum producer, and divide by their population??How about the other parts of my post? At least $20b is more than all we pay as school fees, and that is just a "token" out of what we have (and what they loot). We do not have up to 40 federal institutions in Nigeria. In fact, during the ASUU strike, we were made to realize that there were just 67 public Universities in Nigeria - federal and state Universities. If I'm not mistaken, $20b is not less than 3 trillion naira which they said was not available for ASUU the last time they went on strike. |
@iwonbaoko, too much people are after University degrees because there are no better alternatives. Our Polytechnics and Technical Colleges ain't doing fine, their graduates ain't encouraged. Government should put other alternatives in place and watch University aspirants decrease. Until then, if we allow them to take this away from us, it will end up being like the fuel subsidy removal - a big scam orchestrated to siphon public funds. |
@iwonbaoko, proffemi and others supporting this tuition fee introduction, the fact remains that government has more than enough funds to finance tertiary education fully without us paying a dime. We were all in this country when the president himself confirmed that $20b was missing. Mind you, this is just a "token" out of what they loot every blessed day. They keep deceiving us with figures that are never real just to console us. It's high time we stood up and fight for our right. If government refuses to fund education, what then will it do with our oil money? Build roads that it is already planning to also privatize and get more money to loot? Pls educate me. |
Shori: Sir,this is not about being a bloody fresher or stallite. Nigeria employers don't employ ''old cargos'' again. It's meant to be ''spend 4 years and go!'' and not ''4+x''. The stallites too are tired, and not the freshers alone. You were not aware too? Ok. Contunu. ![]() Well, methinks anyone who wants to graduate in time should not think of OAU at all. It has always been so in OAU. Not that we shouldn't care about graduating early, I care too. But, we have to endure, pray and support the SUG the little way we can. Majority of them are finalists too. |
Even in her current pathetic state,All these bloody freshers don tire o. ![]() |

@mfm04622 No government can fund education alone? Interesting! Same government in whose care $20b disappeared into thin air? Tell me more. No one is saying there should be any increment. All we are saying is, if there would be any, it should be reasonable and justified. |
@tom111 Oga, your analysis ehn ![]() Ask yourself these: What was the minimum wage then and what percentage of it was the school fees? What is it now and what percentage of it is the school fees? I know how it feels, we're in it together na. We just've to endure it. I can afford it, you can, others can, but some can't. Should they be sent home? Haba! |

nairacobra: Ibikunle, Bamidele and Olori, i'm sure most of u r 21years old! Shameful act of a kid! Omole must go, Durosimi must resign, Na uina papa put them der?Calm down man. Folks like you should be in other schools - not Great Ife. (Un)fortunately, those people you're addressing may not see this. Moreover, they didn't decide these actions alone, they are all congress resolutions. Well, people like you would never attend congresses. Pathetic. Pls, change your orientation before it's too late. |
oluwamitomisin: Well, i think you guys know better than i do. You may continue with your fights. And i wish you the best with it. but please i don't think i deserve all these name calling and abuses. counting years, i should be far older than you guys judging, by your posts, i feel you're students of OAU.Helloo. Pls, try to accept that you were wrong sir/ma. I think you ought to read before you post. Your posts reek of ignorance. You may be older than me but I think I'm not too small to correct you. Next time, just pass by if you do not have time to read the OP. |
