ChangetheChange: The banks sent email reminders to customers urging them to deposit their banknotes on Friday, warning the naira notes would lose their validity after the deadline
Commercial banks are insisting on the Central Bank of Nigeria February 10 deadline to deposit old N200, N500 and N1,000 banknotes despite a temporary halt of the process by the Supreme Court.
Financial institutions like Stanbic IBTC, Union Bank and other commercial banks said they would stick to the February 10 deadline for accepting old naira notes, disregarding a Supreme Court order restraining CBN from following through on its directive of rejecting the old denominations at the expiration of its ultimatum.
The banks sent email reminders to customers urging them to deposit their banknotes on Friday, warning the naira notes would lose their validity after the deadline.
“The design of N200, N500 and N1,000 will no longer be accepted as a legal tender after Friday 10 February 2023,” Stanbic IBTC wrote in an email to their customers on Thursday. “Deposit your old notes now at any of our branches.”
The Union Bank urged its customers to “rush” to its branches to deposit the old banknotes.
“Avoid the rush! Visit your nearest Union Bank branch to deposit your old naira notes today,” the bank stated in a post that included an image of a notepad with the words “1 day to go” written on it. The image included the expiring N200, N500, and N1,000.
Similarly, Access Bank reminded customers to “hurry now” and “beat the new February 10th deadline to deposit your old (200, 500 and 1000) naira notes” in an email sent to customers on Thursday.
Seeing as they were not joined in the Supreme Court case filed by Kogi, Kaduna and Zamfara, the banks believe they are only subject to the CBN directive regarding the expiration of the denominations and since they have not received a counter-circular regarding the matter from the apex bank.
On Tuesday, a seven-member panel led by Justice John Okoro halted the CBN’s withdrawal of the old naira denominations in a ruling in an ex parte application brought by the three northern states.
Why are this people fighting like this? Lol,they are fighting for themselves not for the masses o,if they love masses the way they are making it seem Nigerians wouldn't have been suffering like this. Same people the hoarded the palliative? Wonders
Lemos14: Abeg make person answer me make I know wetin to do cause I have like 7k old notes with me and I'm wondering if i should sell them all out tommorow
They're useless now, shey anybody stopped you from going to deposit it since?
Close down the Universities and let students go home and vote abeg. Even if it hasn’t happened before, there’s always a first time.
Meanwhile, the NUC is right about the security argument. Because with the way the situation is charged with no one not knowing what things could become after the election, it is best you allow students stay at home and watch the directions things will take.
I don’t think it’s wise for Igbo students to remain in ABU Zaria or for Hausa students to remain in Nsukka or Unilorin so that if there’s another “Oso Abiola” after the elections, these guys don’t get trapped in strange lands.
I expect the regulatory board of Polytechnics to follow the footpath of the NUC too.
I don’t expect Tinubu BATstards to agree with my submissions though😏
Don't mind ASUU. They just lost my support, useless people
As an obidient I don't really have problem with this. As long as you are not supporting tinubu and Atiku I don't care if you don't support Obi. I just don't want the Two thieves close to power

Tinubu did not say that because of himself,he said that because the policy increases the suffering of the masses and by extension could cause the masses to revolt against it with their PVC,since him and buhari are in the same party
Who in his right senses will vote for tinubu before?
AllTheWayUp: They are going to their early grave as usual. They will return in body bags and declared missing, like the first set o Russian soldiers that invaded Ukraine last year
I understand that you support Ukraine for good, but have you seen this agreement with NATO
A Johannesburg resident was shocked when she opened her tap only to find blue water coming out of the tap.
The incident happened on Monday while most areas were under water restrictions.
Speaking to IOL, Ntombi said the blue water eventually stopped coming out.
“Joburg Water has reached out and they will come assess the situation,” she said.
Joburg Water spokesperson Puleng Mopeli said they managed to obtain the address of the complainant and sent a request to their lab to take samples.
“It is suspected to be copper from the building. However, we will confirm once the results are issued from the lab which will be 24 hours after the samples have been tested,” said Mopeli.
Earlier, Johannesburg Water warned residents that parts of the city may experience low water pressure from their taps, with the possibility of no having water in some areas due to low levels in reservoirs.
A power failure at the Eikenhof pump station over the weekend limited water supplies in the city's western districts.
According to Johannesburg Water, City Power has finished making repairs at the pump station, and pumping is now operating at full capacity.
Listen to this, a man is worthy of respect and honour when he shows an enemy that he is capable of dangerous actions. Not all situations demand peace solutions and this one was definitely not one.
You had a very big advantage which were your military friends.... Cult boys will never fvck with military men.
If your military friends had hurt that guy for slapping your woman I can assure you that he will avoid her till the end of his life.
If the army had invaded that school because of that guy, your girl will be feared.
The last thing he would do will be to touch her again when you are not around because he knows that he might lose his life.
You probably do not understand the psychology of the human mind and how to paralyzes men with fear.
If you did, you wouldn't let that shit slide, because that nigga will still bully your girl because he has not received a scar on him that warns him not to enter your territory.
So I must say this... You are a coward until you show the tenacity or capacity to be dangerous to other men.
#Peace
Nigerians and misuse of military. Is there any law that says you should take military to arrest a civilian? Can't he report to police or DSS?
You didn't do this when lives were been lost to Fulani herdsmen. When naira was falling you didn't,fuel wen up you didn't. Now you have nonsense excuse to do this? Get out
DaddyFreeze2020: Many business men use their shops as banks/vaults in Kano State. A Fulani man recently came to First Bank Tafawa Balewa to deposit his own cash running into millions of naira. He never had an account no, so the bank staff had to immediately open one for him.
I hope CBN extends the deadline to allow such people deposit their hard earned monies.
Where have they been? This naira scarcity will even Strenghen naira
