Many modern women are choosing to have children without fathers. They seem to believe that providing financial luxury is all that matters for their kids. They don't know, this could lead to raising children who miss out on the benefits of balanced parenting. The emotional challenges a child may face, seeing others with two loving parents, can be disorienting. Many of you reading may dismiss my perspective, but I believe many understand where I'm coming from.
Anyone who hasn't understood your perspective has not opened his eyes to see what's happening with the black community in places like the USA! Many single mothers roaming around leaving "fatherless" children going down the road to perdition!
Some say we're "hating" on a successful woman! Hmmmmm...I smile in Xhosa!

I get your point, but honestly, it’s not just about giving children phones early and monitoring them. The truth is, no parent can fully know what their kids are doing on a phone all the time children are often two steps ahead when it comes to gadgets.

Taking a phone away doesn’t always create a “vacuum”; sometimes it actually gives room for a child to focus on healthier habits, social skills, and values without being glued to screens. Not every child who delays getting a personal phone grows up behind in tech, many catch up quickly once given access, and often use the tools more responsibly.

Also, forcing siblings to share a single phone may only breed resentment, secrecy, and competition among them. It might be healthier to delay personal ownership until each child shows responsibility and maturity.

At the end of the day, technology will always keep evolving. What matters most is timing and balance—ensuring kids are emotionally and mentally ready before giving them access, instead of rushing because of fear they’ll be “left behind.”
Thanks for the response...I think it's all good...we pray for our children to be useful and dedicated to good virtues and morals.

I'm not a fan of gadgets but it's not the gadgets causing the mass failure of Nigerian students. Finland, South Korea, America, China and Japan are all gadget-heavy users and the average 15 yr old there is better educated than even a 20 yr old Naija university student (go and verify, we're in deep soup).

Our society is so broken, it's ridiculous.

We have NO morals: parents will literally bribe schools to make sure their kids pass exams;

Our Educational curriculum is so backwards (honestly we should really stop graduating kids from at least 60% of STEM courses);

Private schools are too plentiful and are a BUSINESS (which means kids rarely get failed)

Then add on the distraction of gadgets= recipe for disaster.

The issues in WAEC and JAMB have been growing steadily for at least 2 decades and the brain drain has made it worse (I can't tell you how heartbreaking it was to see some of the best teachers and lecturers I knew leave Nigeria to be replaced by less competent persons).

And it's not going to get better.

So get your kids a smart device and do something even better: sit down with them and use that device for deep learning.

Because your kids aren't learning anything in school.
I love your last statement...kids aren't learning much in school, and honestly when I see tutorial on YouTube etc on maths science and other subjects I begin to wish these were available to me when I was younger too!

“This Is Why Our Children Are Failing WAEC”

I always say this with my full chest 💯 — no child of mine will get a gadget at an early stage, and no child will ever dictate to me how to raise them. I’m African — blood hot, brain correct — and I’ve seen enough to know where this road leads.

I didn’t come to this decision by accident o. I learnt the hard way. My own teenage sister lives with me. When she first came, I gave her freedom — gave her a phone to feel among. But before I knew it, this girl turned into someone I could barely recognize 😔.

She wouldn’t sleep at night. Instead, she was always online, in secret teenage groups watching adult content, sharing inappropriate pictures of herself to boys. I almost ran mad. I cried. I blamed myself. I took that phone and made a law in my house:
No child under my roof will own a phone until they finish secondary school. Period.

Some people around me think I’m too strict. In fact, they’re now telling me to give my 16-year-old niece a phone.
Phone ke? Even when we tried giving her a small button phone, it still became wahala! The girl doesn’t act her age. Always behaving like a 1-year-old with no sense of responsibility.

But let’s call a spade what it is. Look at the WAEC results that just came out — pure disaster for so many students. Why? Because most of them are more active on TikTok and Telegram than they are in their schoolbooks.
They know how to “soft launch” and snap perfect selfies but can’t spell simple words in English or solve basic math.

Yes, society has changed — smartphones are now used for everything. But at what cost?
The line between usefulness and destruction is very thin for these kids, and sadly, many parents are too tired or too distracted to draw that line.

Until we wake up and take back control, this failure trend will continue.
WAEC will keep reflecting not just academic weakness, but parenting failure. And guess who suffers the most? The children.
Depends on value system. My children have always had phones from childhood and all they do I'm aware of!
Keep engaging them on things that will build them and pray along with them, your own values will impact on them.
I'm sorry your niece put you in a spot, but taking away the phone indefinitely will create a vacuum she would fill when the time comes and she will do so too quickly.
Gadgets are changing continuously don't let your children be left behind thinking they will catch up suddenly...you can let them have only one to share among themselves...that way no one can have monopoly and engage in silly vices.
Best wishes

..the left wing back and right wing back is a very difficult position...they have to run to the front to support the attacks and also cross ball to the attackers in the box 18 and they also have to run back to defend when the team they are playing with are attacking and want to score
But do you know they don't have to do so all the time during a game ? Depends on tactics... but for midfield positions...you gotta dictate the pace, always! And it's your promptings that gives a wing back more jobs to do...

All positions are mentally and physically tasking, but the most MENTALLY tasking is the converting of chances and scoring of goals as it comes with tremendous pressure and so little time to act.

Hence the most difficult is the position of the striker particularly the CENTRE FORWARD 9...
Mentally tasking if you don't score often, so who creates the chances? Surely the midfield man! Those tailor made through passes and lobs have origins...so I ask that you see my point of view and agree with me Cheers

obembet:
Given that association football — otherwise known as soccer — is the world's most popular sport, it's no surprise that the beautiful game is the subject of near-constant debate from global fans of the game. And it's not just teams, managers, and players whose performances and skills get dissected by the masses, it's also the specific tactical roles they are supposed to be occupying on the soccer field.

Football divides people (often in the most entertaining ways), and positions are one of the many elements of the game that cause people to argue and debate amongst themselves. Both elite-level performances and disappointed displays from professional players can get fans considering the question

1. Goalkeeper

The amount of pressure that plagues the goalkeeper in soccer is what makes it such a difficult position. If a striker makes a mistake, the worst thing that happens is they don't score a goal. If a goalkeeper makes a mistake, it's highly likely that the ball will end up in the back of their net.

2. Centre Midfielder

The duties and responsibilities of a central midfielder in soccer are far-reaching; they regularly receive the ball under pressure and are tasked with constantly recycling possession and making dozens of pinpoint passes each per game. Not only do centre-mids need to provide protection for the defence and break up opposition attacks, they are also relied upon to get the ball forward to attackers and contribute in a creative sense.
Getting up and down the pitch in a dynamic, targeted way requires huge levels of stamina, and central midfielders are typically the most physically fit players on the soccer field, with some centre midfielders capable of running up to 12 or 13 kilometres per match. It's a tough gig, that's for sure.

3. Striker

It's very difficult for a soccer team to win a match without a striker who is capable of finishing chances from a range of different positions. Top strikers need to be able to put the ball in the back of the net even during games when they've received very little service, and if a team isn't scoring regularly, the pressure ramps up on the people at the top end of the pitch.

Forwards are not only relied upon for finishing chances and securing wins, but also for linking up with other players, holding up the ball, putting pressure on opposition defenders, and battling physically with centre-backs who are often big, bulky and commanding. As a result, this is one of the hardest positions in soccer, and it's very difficult (and expensive) to find a top quality striker.

4. Centre-Back

The amount of pressure piled on centre-backs is massive; they regularly have to face up against some of the best players in the game, marking speedy, strong, powerful, technically excellent forwards while leading a backline and communicating with both full-backs, defensive midfielders and goalkeeper in order to keep things as tight as possible.

In the modern game, central defenders at the top level are typically excellent on the ball as well as being some of the best athletes in the game. However, this position can still be occupied by some slower, less dynamic, and less technically gifted footballers, even in top flight football, and it typically involves less running than most other roles on the pitch, so for those reasons, there are other positions that are, on the whole, more difficult.

5. Full-Back

Back in the day, full-back is often where you'd find the game's less dazzling players, the kind of operators with strong positional awareness and decent technical ability but perhaps not the skill or footballing brains of a creative midfielder or forward. These days, things have changed and the demands placed on full-backs are far more extensive; alongside having excellent technical skills and passing ability, they also need serious stamina and are required to run up and down the flanks contributing both offensively and defensively.

6. Winger

First things first, it's important to note that every single position on the soccer field has its own stresses and demands, and anyone performing these roles at a professional standard is clearly a hugely talented athlete. But when it comes to the level of responsibility associated with an individual position, wingers and wide midfielders perhaps have the most license to focus on the glamorous side of the game without applying quite as much hard graft as certain other positions.

Wingers sometimes operate on the margins of games and are relied upon for moments of attacking quality, rather than being constantly tested and placed at the centre of their team's exploits. For that reason, it's one of the more easy positions in the sport.

"What is the hardest position in soccer?"

Source: obembet
Definitely the midfield position.
You do all the thinking for everyone else! Planning playing and pressing...all are for the midfield man.
Even when a game is started by the goalkeeper the midfield man already begin to position himself to dictate pace, pass and punch to the opposition!

It may not work oh, just prepare for the worst case scenario, how?

Save enough.

Invest in landed properties aka real estate, not really tenant house cos that's another problem bigger than the one you are running away from.

Just have enough properties if you can acquire them now, please do.

Have a retirement savings plan with any of the pension funds mgt firms if based in Naija.

Before you turn 65, startup a small business and have few trusted staff, if possible ladies.

Invest gradually in the business so it can be your next job where you will be going everyday to keep your brain busy cos moneymaking and the stress that comes with it makes the brain active. Avoid sedentary life.

Religious activities is another good way to keep busy and build strong, reliable second family after retirement or towards retirement.

Bottomline, save, save, invest so that with or without kids, you can still take good care of yourself and your responsibilities.

I just pray for long life and good health, I know my old age with be very sweet, sweeter than my youth shocked
Thanks for the solid advice, I'm on that path as well... May God bless us and help our children to be a source of praise and blessings to us in our old age!! Amen!!

Dear Nigerian ladies, please stop birthing more than 2 kids, whether they are all girls or boys doesn't matter, they are all kids.

The days of looking for a male child is gradually going extinct cos most people no longer live in the remote villages where they want to have a male child to inherit their farm lands.

Boy or girl, train them well, wherever she is, as they tell her story, your name as her father and mother will be mentioned and that's enough. Besides dead people don't know who inherited their name abi wealth or not.

Too many kids can reduce ones lifespan whether rich or poor. If you think money will fill the gap, they may end up becoming societal vices that you will forever regret having.
I strongly believe that 15 years from now no one will advice anyone about number of kids, the world economy will be the "adviser"!

Vasectomy, I am scared of anything surgery no matter how minor if not, I would have gone for it honestly
I tell whoever cares to listen never to have more than two children, some listen, nod and ignore my advice, in fact one guy avoided me for almost a year, he couldn't bear it till he came to me asking for forgiveness, shocked I asked for what, and he told me he'd been avoiding me because after the talk we had he impregnated his wife again and he regretted cos money was hard to come by!
