Pls doc, laterly I started noticing some wetness on my eyes, though I av history of IOP which is accompanied by itches and a eye drop drug(ivetim*l) was prescribe by a doc but dis wetness doesn't come wit itches, its painless too...
I avnt used d drug for some months now pls what is ur advise for me
Wetness or tearing could result from dry eye, viral infection or even Astigmatism. Do u experience that everyday or when u perform certain activities that require detailed visual taskhuh Secondly, if u have history of IOP, then u MUST use ur drugs, go every month for IOP test, cus you can be at risk of developing glaucoma which is a sight-threatening condition. Contact me.

I was struck in my eye with a metal object about a month ago.

Its healed and though the sight is not perfect as it used to be (I sometimes have to close the eye to focus better with the other and sudden eye movement takes time to focus).

The main concern is a flash of light.......like light caught in a drop of water that flashes past a corner of my sight at intervals. Its quite distracting.

Pls, What could it be??
Flashes of light is something that require quick assessment and proper management. Flashes usually have when anything touches or tug on ur retina. You could have had vitreous detachment or retinal detachment. Pls take that seriously and visit a good eye clinic. Do u also experience floaters ??

The last time I checked was about 5 months ago. The floaters are still their but the docs said it does not mean anything that they will clear with with time. Personally, I think the floaters are due to consumption of alcohol. I am not very worried about the floaters because, I still see very clearly without glasses and I didnt loose any peripheral vision. Please, is every ocular pressure related to glacuma? That name scares the hell out of me.
Ocular pressure is one major risk factor for glaucoma but it doesn't mean every high ocular pressure is glaucoma. Some pressure can be low and the eye can still dev glaucoma. Secondly alcohol doesn't cause floaters. Floaters indicates that something is not so right inside the eye. It might not be serious tho. So answer this 3 Questions. 1. Do u see sudden flashes of light. 2. Are the floaters increasing at a fast rate. 3. Do u have pain?

Previous diagnosis suggest my mums left eye lens have shifted a bit due to trauma resulting in blurred vision from the left eye. Can this be corrected by lens or surgery?
She need to be assessed. That lens may have cataracts due to the trauma. She need to do a detailed eye examination.

Hello doc,, I have always heard that, after a year of using glasses for correction, the refractive error in the eyes become corrected i.e, I don't necessary need to use glasses for correction again. Please how true is this because I have been using grasses for more than 2years now and no changes in the eyes, its like It's getting worse, I don't just understand.
Also, can it be corrected through suggery? If yes, what are the chances of not having a permanently damaged eye?
Glasses DOESN'T cure refractive errors. The corrections is ONLY while you are wearing the glasses. When you remove ur glasses, the eye is back to as it was. So u will need to use your glasses always for clarity and comfort. About the surgery, what type of refractive errors are u having huh

tnx ..pls what's the best glaucoma eye drops so dat I can go for it but right now he's using Timolol eye drop(I dnt knw hw good is dis one)...pls if there's a better eye drop pls drop me d name
Usually, if the glaucoma is advanced we do recommend combine therapy. However that will depend on the result of the glaucoma assessment. Although I can give u some name of glaucoma drugs but that would not be helpful. The best thing is to be under the management of a glaucoma specialist like an opthalmologist. So that the treatment n drugs can be closely monitored and his pressure/ visual field assessed regularly. That's the only way to know if the Drugs are working.

Op...I started seeing floaters in my eyes then I went for examination. The 1st doc said I have glacouma, the second one said it's ocular pressure which may lead to glaucoma if left untreated. So i took treatments which reduced the pressure from 29 to 16 and the pressure never went up again even after stopping the drugs for 6 months. Am I still at risk? ..and which of the doctors were correct. I understand that i have to be going for regular eye examination but how often? Thank you for this thread.
The two doctors said basically the same thing. Since the pressure is down now, do u still have the floatershuh When last did you check the pressure?

I was tested by optician and she asked why it took me so long to complain, that my eyes were bad.

My question now is: my glasses does the job currently, do I still need to see an ophthalmologist for treatment? I have never seen an ophthalmologist. Never bothered about corrective treatment, since my glasses puts me in normal eyesight position.
If its just a refractive error you wouldn't need to see the ophthalmologist. What U should do is go for yearly review of your eyes. However if the doctor diagnosed any other eye issue such as glaucoma, then you might need to see an ophthalmologist. What HMO are u underhuh

Gudday doctor!! Pls my dad is having an eye problem called glycoma and he's almst in d verge of losing his sight he can't even see clearly now even an image at close range,d hospitals he have went to hvnt provided a better solution to it..pls what's d better cure for it..or is dia any hospital u wil recomend..pls am waitn for ur urgent reply
Sorry abt ur dad, my warm regards. Glaucoma itself does not have cure and any vision lost before treatment cannot be regain. The best management at that stage is to try to conserve the remaining vision by (1) Monitoring his Eye pressure using glaucoma eyedrops and if necessary surgery to open up the drainage inorder to reduce the pressure. (2) Use of Optical corrections to see if it can make any difference. (3) Low vison therapy and rehabilitation, so that he can still maximize his remaining vision.

@OP, please which eye drop can take off brown spot on the eye ball? An Optician said is called Peridium.

Can Optrex eye wash clean it off? what are the possible side effect using Optrex?

Thanks.
Although I can see the brownish spot, Its not clear enough 2 really see if there is a fleshy growth( pterygium) in that pix. However Optrex does not "wash off" pterygium. Optrex contains sodium cromoglicate which has anti-allergic action. If your eye becomes itchy and red (inflammed) Optrex will help reduce those symptoms. For the pterygium itself, as long as it does not affect ur vision, what u can do is just to manage the symptoms associated with it. An advanced pterygium can be surgically excised (cut off), although there is some chances of it growing back. Lastly : Excessive exposure to wind, dust and ultra-rays (sun) can increase the rate of pterygium growth. So get a sunglass.

Cataracts is not usually heredity. I would like to know if she is diabetic cus that also result in blur vision. Although blur vision from diabetes tends to change depending on the level of d blood sugar

sori doc bt i tink it may nt b cataract @ her age she cld be havin keratoconjuctivitis sicca (dry eye) nd reflex tearin which d eyes tend to use as a compensatory mech in response to d dryness also occurs in sm cases. I dnt tink its cataract frm her complaints. More investigations shld b done. My humble contribution sir
Thank U optm. You r correct abt the dry eye, because frm age 45, abt 60% of women dev dry eye from hormonal changes. But the thing about older patients I have seen personally is dat they tend to have a myriad of ocular issues presenting at the same time. So if she have been diagnosed of cataracts that does not rule out dry eye. So for the itching and tearing it could be dry eye, but for the blur vision and her perception of fluid accumulation that is more likely to be cataracts.

Hello Dr. Please help. My mom is about 70 years old. She complains that her eyes itches a lot and tend to water. The water does not come out, rather it forms a kind of cloud in her eyes that clouds her vision making her vision blurred. One Dr said it is eye cataract. How do we treat this please.
@70 cataract is common and its not surprising. Its actually the lens in the eye that dev opacity. The management is simple : if the cataract is mature, then she should go for cataract extraction. Usually its done one eye at a time. If it is not mature, then the doctor might try some optical corrections to determine if there will be any improvements in her vision and comfort until the extraction. NOTE : Be careful not to allow anyone deceive u into buying cataract drugs such as catalins n catarest with the claim that it will clear the cataracts. Although they might help a little especially @ the early stage of cataracts BUT they do not cure or clear cataracts completely esp when dealing with mature cataract. Save ur money and do the cataract extraction.(The doctor will have to first assess the integrity of her ocular system especially the Retina to make sure that it is healthy b4 doing the surgery).

some times i cant see anything for a moment especially wen am out on the sun and tears flows out of my eyes whenever am reading,

or
even electric lights or anything that is brighter.
pls help me am just 21 and i dont want to lose my sight.
You wouldn't go blind. Tearing when reading and using computer/phones indicates that your Near vision is not comfortable, you might have refractive error. If it comes with headache or eye aches, then it could be hyperopia or hyperopic astigmatism. What U shld do is go to an Eye clinic and see an Eye doctor. The doctor will test and advice U.

Thanks. So there's no way the present floaters can be wiped out so i can have a floaters free vision? Am i to bear it for d rest of my life?
The 1st and most important thing is to know the cause and stop further floaters. Your doctor may prescribe some drugs that will help but there is no guarantee of completely clearing the floater.

Dear drsteroid and jauntty

I'm a 19 year old dude, early dis year, i started having eye floaters, it started from a single black/dark floater on my right eye, now i have few floaters on both eyes. This is both alarming and depressing considering my age (teenager.) Please what can be done about this? Thanks a lot.
Most floaters are age related and happens when the jelly vitreous starts to liquefy due to old age. For younger persons, it can be due to bleeding in the interior, Retinal / vitreous detachment, or flares from infections. So see your Eye doctor. If there is no serious underlying cause, then you might have to cope with them. So see ur doctor.
