your figures are based on the average brits plus not sure they'd get that much if they are claiming for working tax credit. I think they are only allowed to if they work less than 37hrs.

Why not start from calculating the minimum wage in the UK which i believe is less than £6 per hr
calculate that by 37hrs a week *52
You should get somethin gin the region of £11544 per annum.

If you want to calculate what's adequate then you need to calculate the minimum amount an average person should live by daily first.
