HealthWhy Does Onions Make Me Cry? by Jayclinics(op): 12:44pm On Dec 19, 2013
Watch the inside of an already divided onion with a magnifying lens, you will see
Small, tiny sacs attached to each other like that of an orange or grape. Inside the sacs lies a juice which spills open when the onion is cut

open. The juice emitsPropanethiol S-oxide gas which reacts with an enzyme in the onion to emit a
passive sulfur compound. Our tear ducts react by
releasing tears (when blinking) to flush out the
sulphuric acid.

Here are some means by which you can prevent the tear in the eyes:

Use a very sharp knife when cutting onions .
The enzymes are released when cells are
broken or crushed; using a sharp knife slices
through the onion rather than crushing and
thus, fewer enzymes are released.
Chill the Onions

Chill your onions in the freezer for 10 – 15
minutes before cutting them.

This reduces the
amount of the acid enzyme released into the
air. This was found to be the most effective
way to reduce tears by the television program
Food Detectives.
Avoid Getting The Gas In Your Eyes

Wear gas tight goggles or a mask .

Cut the onion next to a strong draft from a
fume hood or fan.

This is so that the gas is
pulled away from your eyes

Wear contact lenses.
They create a barrier between the surface of your eyes and the gas. Absorb The Gas In Water

Cut the onion under water .
Cut the onion near running water or a cloud of
steam. Steam from a kettle or pan of water
will do the trick.
Soak the onion in water . The enzyme is
denatured by the water-air boundary.

Breathe through your mouth
(to draw the gas over your wet tongue) or stick your tongue out .
Breathing through your mouth will make the olfactory nerves, which are closely located to the tear duct nerves, will be by bypassed and there will be no tears generated. This is easily confirmed when you forget and breathe through your nose. Instant tears.

Put vinegar on the chopping board.
The acid denatures the enzyme.

Soak the onion in salt water .
The ionic solution denatures the enzyme.
Other Methods

The candle method.
Light a candle and set it
near the cutting board before cutting the
onion. The gas released by the onion is drawn
into the flame of a candle.

Pay attention to air direction

Whistle while you work.
Whistling increases airflow, specifically away from your
face, which keeps the onion mist away from
your eyes. Just pick a catchy tune that you
won’t want to stop whistling and you can cut
as many onions as you need.

Check this methods out and report back to us.
Thank you

I don't knw weda dis is valid,
the plasmodium will pass through digestion like anyoda food that gets into the body through the mouth, and wen it gets to the small intestine it will be absorbed into the bloodstream by the villi that lies on the walls of our small intestine and wen it is in the blood stream it will be transported to the the liver like anyoda digested food substance.
the fact that it has already gotten into the bloodstream tru absorbsion makes me think that the plasmodium can pose a threat of the diseases inside the body.

like I said earlier I don't knw and can't guarantee the authenticity of this idea just trying to think and leave you guys to make things clear for me.

After five months and 10 days that the public universities have been shut due to the strike by the Academic Staff of Union of Universities, the Federal Government and the universities lecturers on Wednesday finally resolved to sign the 2013 Agreement. This is the review of the FGN-ASUU 2012 Memorandum of Understanding reached on the 2009 Agreement. Both parties, however, refused to give details of the agreement to journalists who witnessed the signing of the agreement. The meeting was almost aborted by the union but for the prompt intervention of some stakeholders. ASUU had on Tuesday vowed not to attend the meeting because there was no commitment and proper invitation from the government. The union had demanded the proof of payment of the N200bn universities infrastructure fund, non-victimisation clause, review of the Agreement in 2014 and that a representative of government, preferably the Attorney-General of the Federation sign the agreement as conditions to call-off the strike which began on July 1. Our correspondent, however, gathered that the union got three of its demands while it relinquished one to the government.

HealthDangers Of Chlorine In Drinking Water by Jayclinics(op): 6:36pm On Dec 11, 2013
You may ask why is chlorine in drinking water?
The reason is because chlorine is a highly
efficient disinfectant. We need to disinfect our
water because of contaminates that are in it.
Some of the contaminates are drugs found in
drinking water, pesticides from agriculture
runoff, lawn chemicals, gasoline to name a few.
Virtually everything that goes down the drain, on
our lawns or farm fields, or into the environment
by any means eventually ends up in the water
we drink.
In the early 1900's before the presence of
pesticides, herbicides, tens of thousands of
chemicals, and chlorine that we are exposed to
in our drinking water, the average American had
a 1 in 50 chance of getting cancer. Today that
figure is one out of three people are at risk of
getting cancer.
In a 1992 study that was reported on in the July
issue of the American Journal of Public Health
researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin
in Milwaukee found that people who regularly
drink tap water containing high levels of
chlorine by-products have a greater risk of
developing bladder and rectal cancers than
people who drink non-chlorinated water. The
study estimates that about 9 percent of all
bladder cancer and 18 percent of all rectal
cancer cases are associated with long-term
consumption of these by-products. This
amounts to over 20,000 new cases each year.
Chlorine in drinking water is a weapon against
cholera and various other water-borne diseases.
Its disinfectant help to provide disease-free tap
water to homes and industry. But this
disinfecting comes with a price. Just like drugs
found in drinking water, chlorine in our drinking
water is dangerous.
Chlorine reacts with other naturally occurring
elements, like leaves and twigs and other
elements to form toxins. These toxins are called
trihalomethanes (THM's). When these THM's
make their way into our bodies, we put
ourselves at risk for heart disease, bladder
cancer, eczema, and asthma. Dr. Peter
Montague of the Environmental Research
Foundation cites several studies that show
pregnant women who consume moderate to
heavy chlorine in drinking water have a higher
miscarriage and birth defects rate.
Expended efforts are being done to research
better ways than chlorination to disinfect our
drinking water. Until then, each of us must
protect ourselves. One of the best options to
remove the chlorine in drinking water is a
carbon-based water filtration system. Carbon-
based filters are also the most effective way to
remove drugs found in drinking water. You owe
it to your health to find a good water filtration
system today and install it in your home.

HealthImproving Your Eyes Vision Naturally by Jayclinics(op): 12:51pm On Dec 10, 2013
Improving eyesight naturally might be a long
and tough process for most people, but the truth
is that the results can be impressive and, on top
of that, even more satisfactory than any pair of
glasses. There are several natural ways to
improve your vision and the primary one is
approaching a healthy diet. The foods you
consume everyday have a direct influence on the
quality of your sight, so make sure you include
all the
vitamins, minerals and especially vitamin A and
antioxidants within your nutrition, which can
eliminate the toxins from your organism and
help you see everything clearer. Vegetables like
carrots are rich sources of beta carotene, so
they should necessarily be included in your diet.
Secondly, a very good way to improve your
eyesight naturally is wearing sunglasses.
Researchers showed that both your skin and
vision can be affected by the UV radiations
during the entire year, so you should wear
sunglasses regardless the weather. Even though
it is said that you can wear glasses only during
the summertime, the truth is that the sun is as
powerful during the winter, so you should wear
sunglasses every time you go outside. Your daily
habits can be very damaging for your eyesight,
so you should analyze them very well and
decide which ones should be given up. If you
smoke or drink alcohol, it is absolutely
necessary to give up this habit, which can
damage your vision very much; the same rule
applies for caffeine - avoid consuming more
than one or two cups of coffee a day and make
sure you do not drink any after 2 pm.
Exercising regularly might be an excellent way
to improve your eyesight naturally. You should
be aware than any type of physical effort is
appropriate, so you can opt for going to a local
fitness club, jogging, swimming or exercising at
home, based on your preferences and time. If
your schedule is not that permissive, then you
can easily transform some of your daily duties,
like washing the dishes or going to work, into
excellent exercises. If you are used to staring at
a screen for a long while or your job involves
this, then it is the right time to start reducing
eye strain. Like any other muscle, eye muscles
can get deteriorated if they are strained too
much, so you have to prevent this from
happening by using a few simple methods,
among which the "20-20-20" trick (focus on a
point 20 feet away, every 20 minutes, for 20
seconds), reducing screen brightness and
making the text bigger are just three of them.
