FamilyRe: Addicted Help!!!! by Jaycobbs(m): 2:01am On Jun 06, 2021
If I were you, I'd do myself a favor and not look for a quick fix to this alcohol problem. Anyone selling you any fast solution to this would only land you in more trouble. Your problem didn't spring up in one day and therefore, cannot be fixed in one day.

Secondly, nature abhors a vacuum. If you're removing alcohol, you gotta be putting in something else. I know of recovering smoking addicts who took to chewing gum to help counteract the effects. But it's easier to wean yourself off of chewing gum than cigarettes. Get productive with your life, get your mind off the bottle, and focused on work and your increasing family.

Maybe you can carry around a bottle of water to take a swig from any time you get the urge. That would have the added benefit of cleansing your body system.

Thirdly, your addiction is only a symptom of a bigger problem. You have known about alcohol for at least five years and you didn't get addicted all this time. So, what changed? It's as much a mental battle as it is physical.

Fourthly, get professional help, or join an online community. A Google search can help you with this. Nobody better to help you than someone who's been there and beaten the addiction.

Interesting read but sad all of them have so many regrets. undecided
They were asked about what they would change, not what they loved about raising their children. So of course, the focus is on their mistakes.

It doesn't mean their motherhood was all gloomy and doomy

It is blindingly obvious to me that all the people on this thread in support of going the baby mama route don't have any experience whatsoever in it.

Their entire argument is based solely on assumptions gotten by reading other Nairalanders' comments or from Twitter.

Let someone with real experience come out and the rest should just get out. You people are vexing me.

If you don't know that guy standing right there, that's Kenny Blaq, a popular Nigerian comedian.

I remember hearing the name vaguely in the past, but it never really interested me enough to go looking for him. But I stumbled upon one of his video clips a few days ago and I have to say, the guy is really good.

Now, why have I slapped his face on the front page of my post?

Kenny is a comedian, but he doesn't do standup like every other person in the comedy industry. Growing up, I was a fan of comedians like AliBaba, KlintDaDrunk, Princess and the likes, but they all have different ways of telling jokes, different brand of jokes they enjoy, different topics they enjoy speaking on and different ways of delivering punchlines.

There are voices in industries in every phase of life that are highly recognizable. You may not see their faces, but the moment the voice comes on, you can say with utter certainty who it belongs to.

That's what your aim should be.

What's your speaking voice and what's your writing voice? Are you humorous? Informative? Are you a storyteller and entertainer? Or are you the person who is best at one-liners? Maybe you prefer to talk in short, clipped sentences that drive home the point with as little fuss as possible.

Whoever you are, however you define yourself, make sure you stick with it.

If you are Kenny Blaq today, Helen Paul tomorrow and Gordons on Friday next week, your customers and clients would not be able to build that trust that is needed to move a business forward.

To find your speaking, writing and branding voice, you need to define who you are and what you stand for. Unfortunately, most people live with an identity crisis because they are busy copying everything and everyone that catches their fancy without regard as to whether it strengthens or weaken their overall image both as a brand and as a person.

Avoid that mistake, and you will send a much stronger message to the people who are around you.

SportsRe: Tyson Fury: I Will Knock Anthony Joshua Out Within Two Rounds by Jaycobbs(m): 5:54am On Jan 05, 2021
AJ is an unpredictable fighter. One of the things that makes him dangerous is that he has no set fighting tactic that opponent can observe and fight against. He could come at you with heavy punches or fancy footwork.

Fury is also a formidable fighter. He's very, very fast. He has great upper body movement. Watch his fights. You'll see him avoiding blows while standing face to face with his opponent, and without bringing his arms up in defence. He'll twist and turn under everything.

He's also one hell of a tactician. We can see how he readjusted his fighting skill, second time around with Wilder.

Make no mistake about it. Wilder was as dangerous as advertised, and his "get-out-of-jail" right-hand doesn't have a match. What Fury succeeded in doing was make that right hand useless by fighting in close range with Wilder (the right hand is a long-range weapon and Wilder uses it by allowing it to gather momentum, before it crashes down on the head of his opponents).

Fury also knocked Wilder down several times, which hadn't ever happened in Wilder's career. There are both physical and psychological effects to that. Fury spent a good amount of time in the second fight leaning his body weight on Wilder, and depleting his energy reserves considerably. Add to the fact that the stupid Wilder had worn a 40-pound bronze costume before the fight -- unnecessary weight he didn't need.

I'm breaking down the Wilder-Fury fight because it shows Fury at his best.

It would be detrimental to dismiss Fury as babbling idiot. He plays and preys on his opponents psychologically with talks like this before every match. And it has worked for him

Even though Fury is not as decorated as AJ, I respect him very much.

AJ is good. Very good. And unpredictable, which is an advantage.

But I'll still put the odds on Fury, 55% to AJ's 45%.

I never knew the guy personally, but I sure benefited from his posts.

I had a lot of respect for those comments on FrontPage, then. His was among them. I felt so wise when I read those posts that made so much sense, and my friends would be hailing me when I quote things I read off NL.

When I used to come online then, in my mind, I was coming to sit at the feet of the masters.

People like HungerBAD made me humble when I came online because no matter how smart or rich you are, these guys were all doing better and they didn't shove it in people's faces.

I also learned discretion and when to keep my mouth shut because, the backlash from stupid comments eh.... Oh boy.

Not forgetting the sarcastic and funny comments too-- gosh. I always came to relieve my tension on NL back then.

I wondered when people used to say Twitter had savage people. Like, have they been on NL? Nairaland was the land of savagery back then.

Damn. How time flies.

RIP, man.

You're in a better place now. It was an honour knowing you, even though it was only vicariously through Nairaland.

Damned if I don't pay my respects.

Ever since I was just a passing visitor to Nairaland, this name has always been associated with wisdom and goodwill.

I didn't know him, but I know something really profound was lost.

RIP man. Much respect.
