The Nzelu family of Ozubulu in Anambra State have returned the N70 bride price paid for the hand of their daughter, Rita Nzelu Over 14 years ago by the family of Simeon Okoro (from Imo State) to officially end the marriage between both as culture demands.


Insiders say the returning of Bride price happened in February 2018 following series of marital squabbles which has afflicted the union since 2017. According to an eye witness who witnessed the dissolution, both families decided after efforts to reconcile the couple failed both in London and Nigeria.


The person squealed that with the cultural dissolution, the actress and her husband are now free to pursue legal dissolution in the court. 


Reasons adduced to the break-up of the union ranged from accusations of infidelity to jealousy. “After Rita got married bout fourteen years ago ,she decided to build her home first and then return to movies later. She did that for the first ten years or so. She temporarily left the industry to attend to family first but since she returned some years back, it has not been funny for the couple. The long hours on locations, took a toll on the marriage.

Especially as She now produces her own films and marriage and career somehow clashed....Especially as the spouse failed to Understand..''


Rita Nzelu was Nollywood's sweet heart before she gradually went quiet and eventually vanished from the movie scene and reappeared years later in London.

Actress and filmmaker Ufoma McDermott feels that the whole Nollywood system is faulty. Her opinion is hinged on claims that actors and filmmakers never get their supposed pay. The ‘Christmas Is Coming’ producer explained, what she would do if she had a magic wand to change the movie industry

“If I had a magic wand, I will love to see the industry get a lot of money, I will let it rain a lot of money to every filmmaker, that has given their sweat, their passion and their life, to see that this industry does not die.

Not one person in the industry is remunerated the way they should.” she said.

Rodgers and Hammerstein died years ago but their estate are still leaving off films that we love to watch like Sound Of Music, The King And I and South Pacific.

How many people in Nollywood get remunerated or their estate get remunerated when their intellectual property is being reused?” she asked.

“We know what is the truth and the truth is that we do not have the money to do them” she said.

“Our highest film in terms of money made is Wedding Party and how much did it earn? If you talk of the stars in that film, they should not be doing another film for the next 2 years.

No film maker is paid their dues, not even near their dues.”

“Unlike producing a song in a studio, one person cannot make a film no matter how you do it, you can never make a film alone, its a team effort. Everyone has a role to play including the government.”

Nollywood is beginning to show sparks of brilliance, but we might have to wait awhile for the proverbial ‘magical wand’ that will make things better.

"So About 6years ago my hubby and I were having one of those fights (wasn't serious at all) 2days of not talking to each other, my Brazilian neighbour calls me and said they invited one of the best tattoo artist from Cyprus and some players & WAGs who want to get a tattoo can come over to their home the next day. I wasn't interested but that night of not talking I began to think deep and remembered my hubby hates tattoos and I was like "jackpot" I shall deal with him so the next day came, I dressed up and strolled down to the house. I'm always looking for ways to cover it cos I'm too old to be carrying a meaningless winking cartoon character ��� smh!
