Hello house,
Who else has received an email from their school about moving lectures online.? I got an email from my school stating that they're working towards offering courses online. My question now is : Will the assistantship apply to the online pattern too, in terms of tuition? |

You're right Fairheart. And we're very grateful to them. fairheart: Nigerians are not only selfish but they have entitlement mentality that makes them demand where they have not sowed.
A $10, 000 scholarship = N3.6 Million $20, 000 scholarship = N7.2 Million
As much as I am aware, no university in Nigeria can give you this much in funding, even if you finish well and have a first class degree. The U.S is a generous nation, giving out billions in aids to people that her citizens know from nowhere. All we do is apply, pay application fee, send test scores, etc. Then we get these millions, and we start thinking it is small. Are you crazy or something?
Our own government cannot even give us 100K in scholarship.
My point is, no matter the amount of funding you get, even if it is $2000, be grateful--because your own fatherland cannot give you half of that. The U.S and its institution doesn't owe any of us. They give out all these funds in good faith, extending love and bring us to their circle so that we can ennoble humanity together. We should be grateful.
If you have full funding and stipend, be genuinely grateful. Don't start comparing what someone else got with what you are being offered. That is selfishness. If you don't like what you are being offered, drop it, so that the school will give its money to someone else.
Many American graduate students doesn't even know their schools have GA, TA, RA. I have had privilege to speak with students about available financial opportunities when they complain about the loan they are taking, and I was shocked they don't know their school offers such huge benefits that ingrate, stupid Nigerians take for granted.
A stipend of $1000 per month = N360, 000 Do your math and be grateful! |

Thank you Fairheart. I saw your response earlier but I was on a 24hr ban(cos I tried to copy and repost it). I've just had the interview. Brief. However, as much as I know I answered some of his questions, I feel like I also messed up with some. I'm just hoping to be lucky. Thanks again. fairheart: General question about your experience at your current job, academic background and why you feel you fit the position you have applied for. Just make sure you are confident and aware of duties attached to normal administrative assistantship. |

Hello Fam,
I've been scheduled for an assistantship interview by Wednesday. It's not a research or teaching position but an administrative one within/outside the school , I guess(cos that seems to be what they have more of given the various agencies partnering with them) . I wasn't told which exactly. My GC only said and I quote “I would like to schedule you for an interview for several assistantship positions". I really don't know what to expect, can someone please clue me in on salient points I need to know? What should I expect (from your experiences).
Thank you. |

1.Yes, you can get schools with full funding. 2. You need to begin your search for schools, only then will you know what tests are required of you. But since you're going for Economics, there are chances you'll be required to write the GRE. So prep up for that while you make your search. It's important to take your time to search out schools that match your interests. Best of luck! The gurus are here to guide you once you take necessary steps. Makah00: Hello Nairaland. I’m a pretty new member in the house and I have motive to traveling to the usa for my msc
I studied economics for my undergraduate with a CGPA of 3.98/5.00 and I’m planing to go for my masters in economics. I graduated in 2019 and I haven’t been opportuned to have any working experience. Gurus in the house I need your advice of the following questions
1)Is there a chance to get a school with full funding or at least part ? As I have searched online for schools that offers scholarships 2) What test do I have to write to process the admission
I’m a newbie on here I will appreciate any advice and any form of help from anyone. Pls feel free to email me at michaelmakah@gmail.com Thanks for taking your time to read through. I look forward to hear from you soon |

I understand that feeling! I'm in same shoes. But just as shawarma will always say : Breathe! And relax!. The waiting can be sooo... Gosh...with all the apprehension, But then that's what we gotta do. However, be in your GC's email, keep reiterating your interest in a GA, and update him/her about your recent engagements that bolsters your skills for the position you're applying for. Best of luck! librangyps: I got admitted to Virginia tech and Kansas State University for Masters (Accounting ).
I have also applied for assistantship and scholarship but nothing yet.
Who else applied to these schools for fall?
I feel so frustrated! the waiting and expecting is not easy |

Oohk. It's different indeed. Thanks for clarifying. solihp: It's different with schools, some you have to accept on the application portal, some you have to sign the offer letter and send back to them.
However, I will say it's not necessary to accept the admission if the deadline is not close and if you're still waiting for other schools.
All the best. |

Hi Please what does it mean to accept an admission offer? I mean, after receiving an acceptance email, is there anything one has to do to show that s/he has accepted the offer? Or is it different with schools? sultanfortune: Accept the offer of admission and wait for the assistantship decision.
Many programs make assistantship decision after making admission offer and NO it does not send any wrong signal whatsoever. |

I am more worried on the general effect of this ban on admissions. I wouldn't know if any adcom will still be willing to give acceptance and assistantships to Nigerians when they're not sure of their arrival. Amidst all these, some people might still get lucky. It's so unfortunate how this can affect well meaning Nigerians. |

Hi fellow nairalanders. I need your advice or any info you might have on these : I'm applying to Northern Carolina state university and Western Illinois University. Both of which I'm applying for MSc in Park, recreation and tourism. NCU requires GRE and TOEFL (They wouldn't waive TOEFL for me), while WIU does not require either of it? In thinking of how possible it'd be for me to take both exams almost within the same span of time (in order to meet up with Feb 15 deadline). What are your views on these schools so that I can know which is worth putting in all the effort for. Secondly, these are my credentials : GPA 4.01/5, Industrial training at Old Oyo National Park and Skyworld travel and tourism Organization, Project is focused on nature based tourism Gracilicutes: pm u bro on Instagram . Patsido: Anyone here applying for or already running an LLM(Masters in Law) program in the US? I need to make a decision fast. Thanks in advance. Gracilicutes: pm u bro on Instagram ,Nysc at a govt secondary school, work experience is in teaching( biology). Pls kindly help weigh the strength of my credentials against my desire to get an assistantship in the proposed schools. Tnx. |

Hi, I'm excited to know that a community of this sort can be maintained with help on sensitive issues coming from all angles. I've been following silently but I'd like to ask my questions First, I've got a degree since 2015, and I've been teaching since 2017(after service), can my CV thrive on such little and seemingly unrecognized experience.? For a graduate study, I mean. I've been teaching biology in senior level and I intend to go for MSc in environmental conservation with interest in wetland ecology. Secondly, I've been looking up some schools and with reviews from here, I've come up with a few, however, deadlines are close, most have closed for fall admit, while others are in Jan and Feb, can I meet up with the admission process and writing of GRE within this short term. I'm saying it's short term because I'd still have SOP's to write, research interest, arrange my CV very well, and then still prepare for the almighty GRE, can I meet up? Thirdly, sometimes I find the course I desire but there are no fundings, others require me to write TOEFL which I don't want to. I only want to prep for the GRE. Like, University of Findley doesn't require GRE for my preferred course in their university, but they want TOEFL, they don't require SOP, no letter of recommendation, why so? I'm scared. Thanks for your anticipated response. Gurus in the house, pls heeeellllppppp! |
