When you mix concrete with poor aggregate ratio, use steel bars that are not suitable, poor foundation depth, all in a bid to save cost; future disasters like this one are certain.

Great comment.

I saw some people building a multipurpose hall with high rise walls and iron works for the roofing, but surprisingly they were using tiny rods ( 10mm) for the pillars and I kept wondering how the building will stand over time.

I don't want it to happen, but I think Nigeria is already on the way to that place.

The recent measures announced by government are similar to those enacted in Lebanon and Venezuela at this point in their economic crisis and in fact similar to what Nigeria did under President Buhari in 1984. Nigeria didn't descend into complete economic meltdown in 1984 because Buhari was kicked out in 1985 and more importantly, IBB came in and introduced SAP.

President Tinubu is doing some SAP things right now and I commend him. He needs to go much further. The funny thing is, there will NEVER be economic development in Nigeria until the country adopts FREE MARKETS as the basic foundation of the political economy. Yes some people will "make it" in Nigeria just as there are people "making it" in Venezuela, but they will be few and of little general consequence.

This is not the appropriate thread or maybe it is, but I've already set out some things that MUST be done to make Nigeria a better place to live for all. There's really no choice in the matter. Again I thank @money121 for this thread, it's really important.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Is Nigeria not operating FREE MARKET economy before now??

The real problems were created in 2015 when someone who was no longer functional took over and everything from security, to economy to anti-corruption started derailing grossly because he came to power with his own BIGOTED AGENDA.

Hmmm!

I'm speechless.

Just 2014 here, I was buying cement at 1300. I can't just comprehend why inflation can take that 50kg of dust to 8k and beyond.

To worsen matters, it's not like people's income has increased exponentially to match the spiralling inflation rates.

Those who voted Sai baba in 2015 & renewed shege in 2023 have answers to that
Politics / Re: Food Crisis: No Plan To Establish Price Control Board - Tinubu by JB4life: 8:37am On Feb 16
Tinubu knows that price control is not possible for commodities not produced by government, just like telling private universities how much they will charge as school fees.

Second , importation of food is not easy nowadays, because of extremely high cost of USD making imported food to be far more expensive than locally produced ones .

If there were cheaper foods out there ,then there would have been no exporting of foods like maize, soyabeans, beniseed, etc.

Solution to Nigerian economic crisis is increased security, aggressive production of goods and services, especially farm products, and curbing corruption.

May God have mercy on us.

100% increase in less than 24hrs...wetin we dey do ourselves sef, we no know

So you believe the report?

Maize sold between 32,000 - 40,000 during harvest last year.

They want those in food business to distribute it free but dollar, cement, iron & steel products, oil & gas products, other commodities & services should skyrocket

Let the government buy the products at prevailing market prices and share FREE the people, if they really care for the people.

If Fashola has wanted to do the road for 8 years, he would have long executed the job. Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual 6-lanes carriageways were done even by Julius Bergers within the same period.

And someone is here talking about yeye Chinese company yet to start job after 8 years.

Whether we like it or not, this union (NLC) is now partisan and will pose the biggest threat to Nigerias economy, they ought to be dealt with one way or the other, since the commencement of this administration, the NLC and TUC have constituted themselves into a menace, the frequent interruptions of our daily activities by this "political" NLC is a serious cause for concern to this administration and ought to be tackled now,it is time for our industrial court to sanction them and ban them outrightly for a period of time and the labour party as a political party must be deregistered immediately.
The NLC should stick to its role as a PRESSURE group and not a POLITICAL group otherwise this country would be engulfed in a crisis soon that will claim lives of innocent people.
