Programmers in the house, I need your inputs! |
Dear Nairaland family, I'm a Medical Laboratory Scientist working in a private facility in Nigeria. Because of poor remuneration here in Nigeria, I have already started processing my papers to move to UK to practice Biomedical Science there. However, right from time, I had always known that I'm in the wrong profession. I'm very good with computers and ICT,. I know that going into software programming will give me fulfilment. I am a fast learner and intelligent too (all by God's grace). I taught myself R (R software) as difficult as it (relative to other statistical analyses software) in just weeks and have been doing data analyses with it. With this ASUU strike, I have started learning programming (taking online programming courses). I'm done with basic HTML (and HTML5), and CSS in just few days (combining my job of about 9 hours daily) . I'm now in Applied Visual Design. My questions: 1) If I decide to stay back in Nigeria, perfect my programming skills and work for a foreign based company, (i.e. working remotely) what salary range should I expect per week (or per month)? 2) How easy is it to secure such remote programming jobs (good paying ones) as a Nigerian, living in Nigeria. 3) Should I just forget working from Nigeria and continue my relocation plans? Thank you in anticipation! |
Thank you Nairaland family; I later recovered my money! |
Zaxbash1:How do I do this? |
Buckeyemedia1:Wema bank refused to contact Zenith bank |
tosbobby:I did all of this, it wasn't reversed. No receipt was printed but I received a debit alert. I have seriously pressed the beneficiary, I even requested he goes to his bank and get official hardcopy statement of account. They said they are working on it, when I ask them how long it will take, they will go mute! |
ifytrik:Thank you; should I so this by email or I should physically visit their branch? |
Zaxbash1:I have the reference number since I now have their bank app. I was able to retrieve it from the transaction history, how do I proceed? |
Dear Nairaland family, I have a serious problem; how do I recover my money from Wema Bank! On the 4th of October 2021, I transferred some money from my Wema Bank account to the Zenith bank account of a supplier who is supposed to supply some equipment needed for the setting up of a business outlet. The money was debited from me but the beneficiary says he is yet to to receive the money. I started making complaints to Wema Bank from 5th of October via emails, phone calls and physical visitation to their branch. Up till now (17th October 2021; 13 days after) the money is yet to be refunded. Wema bank says the money is not with them, since I used a Fidelity Bank ATM to do the transfer, I requested they write officially to Zenith bank requesting if the beneficiary has been credited but they refused. They said the money is with Interswitch. I have requested they call someone in Interswitch to expedite action on it but they said they don't have the contact. I don't want to talk yet of how I was humiliated when I peacefully insisted they must refund my money or at least tell me when the issue will be resolved. The important thing is that up until now, I don't even know when it will be resolved despite all my efforts. My first priority is to recover the money so I can buy the goods and set up my shop (then later, seek advice on how to get justice). Am I supposed to wait indefinitely? Please, Nairaland family, I need your advice on how best to recover those funds. My mental health is at stake here! |
I was reading about the new UK 'Health and Care Visa' and I saw this quote: "Ministers say immigration can't solve the care sector's problems which, they argue, are down to poor pay and career prospects - making the job unattractive to British workers who could be capable of filling the roles." It got me wondering: "Could it be that immigrants accept lower pay for jobs in the UK in which UK citizens and residents have rejected because of poor pay? Do they recruit immigrants so they could pay them lower wages? Are the jobs available to immigrants only because UK citizens don't want them because of working conditions?" Please Nairalanders, I need your input because I'm considering migrating to the UK under the new Health and Care Visa policy effective January 1, 2021! |
ElvisPresley:Please can we discuss, I need some information from you please |
op, come to our LORD JESUS CHRIST. He will help you. |
There is this post trending on social media "Once you tell a Nigerian girl you love her, you start owing her money." This is true and I need to make some clarifications: This mentality is mostly applicable to girls aged 18-25 years. These set of girls are just trying to understand life and how their bodies work. They do not understand the meaning of 'bad economy' or 'recession'. They don't understand 'saving for the rainy day' or 'investment.' They believe that all there is to life is their bodies, beauty and looks. They will most likely not be able to offer a man any useful advice about how to plan his life. They don't understand 'cost-saving measures'. They believe any man dating them should pay their bills and give them the comfortability they fantasise. They believe their boyfriends/husbands must provide for them even things their parents couldn't give them quite unlike men that start early to plan how to 'make it' even if their parents didn't really 'make it.' They are usually very enthusiastic about marriage despite being ill prepared for it. There is a positive relationship between their age of marriage and divorce rate. (Social scientists should do well to carry out a proper research on this). These set of girls are particularly very insulting, disrespectful and tend to run their mouths. They can talk to anyone anyhow they like. They do not know what they want, they don't even understand themselves. They believe they are doing you a favour by dating you. This attitude is made worse by the number of admirers they get on a regular basis and the volume of attention they get from men. They can afford to misbehave because the next minute, another guy is walking up to them. They forget that this stage of the prime of their life vanishes faster than it started and thus are more likely to make wrong choices about relationship/marriage partners. At this stage, the qualities they look out for in men do not reflect sound judgment and the realities of life. They need proper guidance on relationship choices to avoid destroying their lives with the wrong men with its dire consequences. If the said girl is still a virgin, it could be worse. Just expect drama; yes, lots of them as they believe life begins and ends with their 'virginity.' They tend to admire guys with 'wizkid' kind of dressing, dreadlocks, ridiculous haircuts and some attributes they call 'swag'. If you are not ready to sag your trousers amd wear 'three-quarters' and snap pictures in awkward and lidicrous poses, these girls will not roll well with you. If you need peace of mind in your home, it should be clear to you that they are psychologically immature for marriage. Go for an older woman or wait for them to understand life better. Unless you are a man with loads of patience, forbearance, understanding and tolerance, these set of girls will provoke you, disorganise you, upset and frustrate you completely. You need to be patient and calm with them as they are given to mood changes and attitude problems. They are more likely to change their minds without warning and without cogent reason; this minute they are saying one thing and the next minute they are nagging about a completely different thing. You will get yourself worked-up trying to figure out what their problem is and how to fix it. You need to be an extraordinary man to handle them properly and effectively and still retain your sanity. You need to be ready to apologise even when you are not wrong. If she is wrong, you have to apologise more. They do a lot of comparisons at this stage. They compare you with their friends' boyfriends, with the movies they watch and the celebrities on social media. They are all out to live their fantasies and anything short of it they begin to complain about virtually everything; There are few exceptions though but more often than not, 18-25 year old girls tend to fall into this category. On the other hand, most ladies (not girls) aged 26 and above can distinguish between fantasy and reality. They have seen some 'things' and understand life more deeply. These group of women know you are doing them a favour by dating them. They are more mature and more ready to handle marriage and what comes with running a home. They are very careful, economical, conscientious and foresighted. They understand what love and relationship is. They can offer a man a useful advice about how to plan for himself and his family. In fact, my best relationship so far was with a lady of about 26 years old. Judith, may GOD bless you wherever you are, it is very unfortunate we can't get married for reasons beyond our control! |
TheSuperNerd:Thanks a lot sir. I studied Medical Laboratory Science in my first degree. I will have more career fulfillment in when I'm into research. I want to solve problems and make discoveries before I die. |
I intend taking up a masters degree program to improve my market value. I'm wondering which one will pay me, having an academic masters degree (and possibly end up a university lecturer) or having a masters in public health and ending up in the field. Please I will appreciate your kind inputs. Thanks a lot. |

Whatsapp has a new update on Google play, but unlike other updates, you will not like this one; at least, not immediately. If you don't want to quarrel with your phone, do not update, just yet! |
There is currently a video circulating online about a man claiming his sister and him saw something that looks like the entrails of an animal in a can of a yet-to-expire Amstel malt. There are so many faults I found in the video clip that will make it impossible for me to believe it: 1) The man did not show his face, his sister or at least any of the people present. 2) Nobody turns on his phone camera just because s/he wants to drink malt. Why did he turn on his video camera? Was he expecting something? 3) Even if he wanted to be sure of the contents of the can, why did he pour into a bowl? People pour drinks into cups/glasses. 4) After he had seen the contents of the can, did he pour it in then started to shoot a video detailing what happened; or does he shoot a video every other time he wants to take a drink, screaming the name of the brand with such high tempo and hatred? 5) The exclamations when he poured out the can contents were obviously staged, how could a woman who refused to see the contents be shouting and screaming in that magnitude. 6) What was found inside the can shouldn't make someone scream to that extent. 7) The man kept on mentioning Amstel malt, he obviously wanted to reduce the number of patronage they enjoy; he had a bottled-up hatred for the brand The man did not report to the authorities; he made a faceless allegation and made the video go viral on social media.I challenge all of us to analyse the video footage critically and carefully. It is my belief that the man wanted to paint the brand in a bad light, reduce customer loyalty and patronage and spoil business for them. If the person who purportedly made the claims is sure, let him approach any of the the consumer protection agencies or a competent court to prove his claims. There are ways to seek redress. I am not saying this is not possible, but the circumstances surrounding this particular case has many irregularities. We should bear in mind that when we want to bring another down, Karma is waiting for us all. It could be your business tomorrow that someone is trying to pull down. AMSTEL MALT DID NOT PAY ME. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO OWNS/RUNS THE COMPANY. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. I am on the side of justice and fair play. I welcome criticisms, name calling, advice and comments but I believe I'm entitled to my opinion |

Good day everyone. I'm a young graduate of Medical Laboratory Science, I'm done with internship training and currently on NYSC placement. Just like most of us, life after NYSC could be very confusing: there is always indecision about where to work, where to settle, passion for improvement and the likes. Honestly, I do not exactly know which part of this country to settle after my service year. I therefore created this thread for people above me in the race of life to please advise me. (Help a confused beginner please by providing answers to some of these questions) 1) How much are Medical Laboratory Scientists paid in non-governmental establishments in the states you live, visit or come from? 2, What is the cost of living in relation to the salary. 3, What are the challenges of working in such a state. 4, What extra skills are needed to compete favourably in such states. Thank you so much as you help. |
Go to NYSC Official website, follow the link that says ''Corps members having problem with payments of their monthly allowance as a result of redeployment should click here'' It may be of help |
I'm currently in an NYSC orientation camp where five corps members were 'decamped' for having sex. Three were caught in the pavilion at night whereas two were caught at 'Mami' market all at night. I don't know the details of what happened but from what I heard, one of the women is married and the third guy was shielding those caught at the pavilion. I now ask: Is it not against their fundamental human rights since it was with mutual consent? Is it not against the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria? Can this be challenged in a court of law? |
