Merry Christmas people

Just a quick one. Do I need to submit WAEC/NECO result if I want to upgrade my ECA report to Course-by-Course evaluation for licensure purpose?
When I tried starting the upgrade application, I got a prompt that I will need to start a new application.

NB: My ECA was completed June 2017

BORING LANDING GIST, PART II

So, I spent two weeks and some days in Toronto, trying to see if I can stay back there. During this period, I was consulting with landed seniors about life in Canada provinces and at the same time, I was applying for jobs in Ontario and other provinces. Also, my hosts were wonderful but few days after I landed, the husband started grumbling. He just wanted us to leave as soon as we can, and this is the same person who said they used good six months searching for a house in GTA, until they were able to get a 2 bedroom apartment.

Although, I chose Saskatchewan as my province of destination, I consulted again on my choice from a senior colleague who lives there. At last, I decided to leave for Edmonton, Alberta. The high minimum wage, low tax, relative "ease" of getting something to do and assurance of getting job after getting my certification done were the factors I considered in choosing Edmonton. Also, as someone who spent the last 3.5 years in Manchester, England, I believe Toronto is like London which I hated visiting, while Edmonton/Calgary should be like Manchester which I love 100 times more than London. Through, my 3.5 years stay in England, my visit to London does not count up to 10 times cos I hate "Lagos" life in England.

On Thursday, we left Ontario via Flair air. Our flight was 7am flight and had to leave our house around 4.30am to sort out our baggage. We had 6 checked-in baggage and all were overweight. This was because we got delivery of our food items from Nigeria on Monday. We paid heavily for the cabin baggage and checked-in baggage but this is a decision and move we have to make at the early stage. After boarding, flight was delayed for like an hour cos of the snow and the need to check that the aircraft is fit to fly. The flight time was 4 hours and some minutes to Edmonton from Toronto. Mildly dislocated my shoulder while lifting the overweight baggage, I will visit the Doctor when I get the green signal with my health registration.

A senior colleague of mine doing his PhD at University of Alberta came to pick us up at the airport. We packed our bags in the trunk and the back seat and prayed that we shouldn't meet police on our way cos we also didn't have a car seat for my baby. We got to the house I already paid for which a brand new basement, owned by a Nigeria. Someone from Edmonton WhatsApp group helped me checked it out and they were satisfied with the house. I made the security deposit a day before we flew to Edmonton and when we got to the house, the guy was at work. I called him and he directed me to where to get the key to the apartment. The basement was so lovely, new appliances and large bedrooms.

Immediately we dropped our bags, my senior colleague took us to where we ate poundo yam and efo riro around downtown, went to do some shopping and came back late. The landlord came over to say hi to us and he was happy to have us around, as his country people. We also had to remove nylon from some appliances and he apologized for not doing that before we came in. We liked it like that anyway cheesy

I'm happy I chose Edmonton finally and I want to thank Salford for giving me his audience when I was trying to decide where to go, members of Edmonton WhatsApp group who are always listening to me whenever I asked questions about areas to live, and lastly to TheCongo, you are God's sent and a jewel. You exceeded my expectation and it is only God that can reward your good gesture towards me. You showed me that there are people out there who can go out of their way to help fellow human being, you are worthy of emulation I must say. I won't forget my beautiful sister, HappyTBaby, you are too much.

Fellow NLders, I won't mind if you can help me thank TheCongo for what he did for me but please, don't ask me what he did sha grin

Lastly, we are in Canada to thrive and not to survive, let's cultivate the habit of helping each other. Let's post job adverts and any beneficial programs here. Indians, Pakistanis and Chinese are making it big time in western countries by helping themselves, let's do that for ourselves. Helping me does not mean you will be paid lower and me helping you does not mean I won't be able to pay my Bills.

The job hunt starts... Bye guys and thanks for reading my boring gist

jelmusboy:
BORING LANDING GIST

We arrived at the MMIA, Lagos by 11am for a Toronto bound flight via Cairo with departure time of 2.25pm on Sunday 25th November. We had five checked-in baggage and two hand luggage with extra back pack and handbag cos we are family of three (Two adults, one infant). All baggage were for clothes and shoes because we decided to cargo our food items (Two bags, 50kg in total) since paying for extra two baggage will set us back by 110k via Egypt airlines. Looking forward to receiving the food items by next week.

I don’t have anywhere in mind to stay permanently for now, getting a job will dictate that. However, I will prefer the Prairie region and the West provinces.
To landed seniors, kindly provide me with what I need to know and do during this first week, it must end in PRAISE.

I am staying temporarily at Etobicoke for maximum of two weeks by God's grace.

Kindly manage my boring story unlike Einsteino, who will hold you spellbound with his gist.

This your story weak me. Anyway, thank God for everything

Riversides2003:

Fort McMurray is a city of about 80,000 people. It’s basically an oil city with lots of money going around. True to the fact that they do a lot of drugs here, it’s only a matter of choice for you to decide if you will join them or not. I landed in Fort McMurray from Nigeria some few years back and I can boldly tell you I never regretted it. Though it’s a work town with little side attractions, but you can be sure of making good money and can afford to take your family for nice vacations within and outside Canada if you want. Even a Janitor will make at least $50k minimal. I first worked as security when I landed and was going home with $4k in a month after tax which is on a 7 days on 7 days off basis. My intention was to get a white collar job sitting in front of a computer but as God will have it I now work as an heavy equipment operator which is sweet, you just don’t want to imagine what an HEO takes home bi-weekly. I lost all I ever had including my certificates and travel doc in 2016 wild fire(the beast) except for the cloths I put on for work and my car that fateful day. The most painful part was that then I was renting and as a Nigerian didn’t see getting a property insurance as something important. I would have been at least $100k richer if I have had that $25 monthly insurance for my property. My dear a lot have really gone by but thank God in less than a year after I lost everything, I bought my own house to the glory of God. When you come here there are lots of opportunities you just have to be flexible and discover what works in the city you live in. God will help you.

Using the bold, Alberta can be said to be like Nigeria. Highly dependent on oil
salford1:

....it affects a lot of industries due to ripple effects. loss their jobs means restricted spending power. People supplying food and accomodation/hotels to workers would loss their jobs, truck/car dealership will have low patronage, home and other construction will slow down, retail sales will reduce, business closing shops hence accountants/financial managers have less business to help audit accounts, etc. All these will also pull down other sectors of the economy.
Alberta has a non diversified economy.

Does oil price determine the prospect of other sectors in the province?

Just thinking that decline in oil price should affect oil and gas sector only. Sorry, I'm not good with economics if am wrong

salford1:

I do not think they rush there because of skycrappers. People move to provinces where they believe they can easily get back on track. Alot of Nigerians work in the finance and IT industry; hence, Toronto region come up as a natural fit for them.

Alberta's economy wasn't doing to good when I left in 2015, and I dont think much has changed since I left as I still visit frequently. However, I know that Grand Prairie and Fort mc to an extent just as you mentioned were booming and maybe still booming, but the boom is still very low compared to when Alberta's oil was selling for over $100 a barrel unlike now that it is selling for around $10 a barrel.

I sent you a PM Salford

salford1:

It was alright. The major outage only lasted for a couple of hours and lasted minutes in some other areas. When such happens in winter and the house starts getting cold, people usually leave their homes and check themselves into the nearest mall. Most malls or colleges/uni in towns will have a back up generator.

A company needed advertised 15 positions with the same job description and person specification. I fit into all these positions and I want to apply.

Can I use the same CV and Cover letter for the positions because they are all the same, only the locations where the post holder is needed is different

Thank you brother, this is much appreciated. However, I have decided not to take it anymore. I was advised to get a job first, then I can decide where to live based on my job location.

I sent you a PM though

Welcome to Canada my brother
Here are 2 options for you.
You can take a greyhound bus to St. Catherines. It will take you 2 hours to get there by bus.
Or, I can take you to St. Catherines (free of charge). But I live in London. It will take me 2.5 hours to get to get to you in Etobicoke. Can you reschedule your St. Catherine's appointment?
