Politics / Re: Tinubu/Oyegun Rift: APC Governors Back Oyegun by jemimafelix(f): 8:25am On Feb 24, 2018
AreaFada2:

I doubt if you understand or know Oyegun one-hundredth as good as me.

You're talking of NADECO that only came in 1994. I knew people around Oyegun way before he even became governor. When he was just a civil servant. Let me not talk about knowing him or not. Because many people claim anything in a faceless forum.

We all know that APC will find a fall guy. Oyegun seems convenient.

What you simply forget is that Saraki becoming senate president was the North deftly beginning to cut Tinubu to size. The moves of Buhari and Northern elite should have made you realise it. It was "Lagos people from Tinubu camp" who were crying over Saraki emergence.

In my opinion Saraki has been good for the senate. The NASS has been more vocal like the days of Okadigbo. That is their job to hold the executive to account. Tinubu didn't get his stooge in that he could use to further personal interest and get what he wants from Buhari. Having failed to secure VP slot being a Muslim.

Talking of progressive, there is nothing progressive about Tinubu or APC. Not in NADECO days, not now. Yes he's skilled in the backward ethno-religious political terrain of Nigeria and propaganda.

No progressive politician anywhere in the philosophy of Pa Awo would hand the presidency to a feudalistic Fulani ex-dictator. shocked shocked shocked

APC was always an alliance of strange bedfellows to wrestle power. Hence they do not know what to do with it. Oyegun has even done a decent job considering he's an outsider/a minority trying to balance entrenched interests of the North & SW. He was never going to win or please any side.

Guy, you too dey lie.

Most nothern apc senators ( northwest and north east) didn't vote for saraki and were in apc meeting at the presidency.

It was pdp senators (se and ss) and few other sw and nc apc senators that pulled a smart one on the party to installed saraki during the party meeting.

It was never northerners agenda to install saraki but that of pdp. Apc chosen candidate was presented by Buhari and the party hierarchy and not tinubu. He wanted akume from benue.
The only person he wanted was gbajamiala for speaker who was by the way overwhelmingly voted for the northwest, sw and ne. Again pdp and nc frustrated him. From the voting pattern, it was obvious the North wanted tinubu candidate to win.

Enough of this misinformation.

Politics / Re-arrest of 'mazi kanu' will be a great mistake by jemimafelix(f): 5:04pm On Aug 27, 2017
THE REAL ENEMY OF STATE

Whoever advised the FG to seek for the revocation of Nnamdi Kanu's bail deserves to be spanked. This is not because the pretender doesn't deserve a corner in the prison for flouting the bail conditions he willingly accepted but because putting him back in jail empowers him more than anything. He knows this, in fact, he craves for it but surprisingly, the AGF doesn't know this obvious fact.

The release of Kanu from prison somehow demystified him. This fact will be obvious over time. Not a few of his followers believed that his freedom would signal the immediate secession of Biafra. In fact, some were already itching to be recruited into some guerrilla armed struggle. So much expectation from a man with no viable or verifiable claim to any means of warfare, physical or intellectual. Even in the absence of means, you can still make people live a life time on hope and expectations, if you are smart. Kanu, in UK or in prison, fed his followers with ambrosia of hope and expectations. Kanu that came out of prison was a troubled soul because he knew he was never going to meet the high expectations of his people. He had to resort to putting up appearances here and there to sustain the struggle in the minds of his sympathizers. This includes visiting Igbo shrines to offer jewish prayers, visiting elder statemen of igbo descent, issuing empty threats against the country and individuals, creating a toothless Biafra secret service peopled by jobless fellows who should be more useful in a Biafra farm settlement, etcetera.

Time is compassionate, it has a forgiving way of eventually easing people out of their misery, even if it is self-inflicted. It is a matter of time that the truth will creep on Kanu's followers that they need to tarry.......for the messiah has not yet come. Over time, they'll become immune to his shenanigans and war mongering. They will realize that his threats are just mere words and nothing more. Has he not recanted his stance on Anambra elections?

To be sure, I am not in any way against self-determination (in fact, i believe in it) but this agitation led by Kanu is fake and self-serving. It reminds one of the sharia brouhaha. It will fizzle out over time. There are two major ways to tackle Kanu. One is to ignore him, of course, without the government and its security apparatus going into sleep. IPOB will either die or become reduced to a sociocultural organization or be frustrated (not by government but by its impending failure) to the point of bearing arms against the state. The latter is the most unlikely to happen but if it did, a decisive hand could be dealt at that point. Secondly, the government should urgently address the legitimate and rational demands of the Igbos and of course, those of the rest of the country. Make them own the country you are hellbent on keeping them in.

Right now, the only way to galvanize the Biafra agitation is to put Kanu back in detention. And whoever puts him back in the prison is the real enemy of state.

Politics / Osinbajo Launches World’s Biggest Fertiliser Plant In Rivers Today by jemimafelix(f): 8:10am On Jul 27, 2017
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will visit Port Harcourt today to inaugurate the world’s biggest fertiliser plant built by Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited.

Mr Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to the presidential aide, the plant with production capacity of 1.5 million metric tonnes of Urea fertiliser is considered the world’s largest single-train Urea plant.

Eleme Petrochemicals Company Ltd, now Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited, was privatised in 2006 after the sale of Federal Government’s 75 per cent shares to a core investor through competitive bidding process.

The plant has a production capacity of 4,000 metric tonnes of nitrogenous fertiliser per day. It was built with $1.5bn.

The opening of the plant is expected to boost the agriculture sector not just in Nigeria, but also in Africa and beyond.

Akande said fertiliser from the plant would be made available to farmers nationwide at an affordable cost.

This will boost crop yield for farmers and help in minimising food grain deficit in Nigeria, Akande said.

The plant consists of 2300 TPD Ammonia plant, 4000 TPF Urea plant, 83 km long Gas Pipeline, and an Export Port Terminal.

The main plant, measuring approximately 40 hectares, is located within the perimeter of Indorama’s existing petrochemical site in Port Harcourt.

The Gas Pipeline for the fertiliser plant was constructed by IEFCL within an existing 15 meter wide Right of Way (“ROW”).

Part of the $1.5bn was used to build a new jetty at Onne Port on a plot of land measuring approximate 6 hectares

The jetty comprises 320 m long Quay along with terminal infrastructure including all material handling facilities necessary for urea and a urea storage facility with a capacity of 45,000 MT.

The transfer of urea from the fertiliser plant will be by road via an existing road network.

Construction of the new fertiliser plant commenced in early 2013 with commissioning coming two years later than planned.

Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City RECAP: Lukaku and Rashford give Red Devils victory in Houston

Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola faced off in Houston as the two Manchester clubs went head-to-head on foreign soil for the first time.

And it was the Red Devils who left victorious, in a match 12 months in the making after last year's friendly in Beijing was rained off.

United had already picked up wins over LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, while City were yet to play a pre-season game.

And that little extra sharpness told as Mourinho's men made it three wins out of three.

Politics / Ojukwu's Biafra Vs Nnamdi Kanu's Biafra ( Spot The Difference ) by jemimafelix(f): 7:44pm On Jul 20, 2017
MY RESEARCH WORK ON BIAFRA!!!
BETWEEN OJUKWU AND NNAMDI KANU

On May 30, 1967, following a chain of events in Nigeria, and following weeks of serious consultations between Ojukwu who was the Military Governor of the then Eastern Region and a cross section of the people, Ojukwu made that historic announcement which proclaimed the sovereign state of Biafra.
The day he made that proclamation, the hall at Enugu was filled to capacity. The finest brains from this part of the country were there. Leaders of thought, Traditional Rulers, soldiers, members of the academia, etc.
In his opening speech that day, Ojukwu said...
"YOU, THE PEOPLE OF EASTERN NIGERIA...
After outlining several powerful preambles, he said...
HAVING MANDATED ME TO PROCLAIM ON YOUR BEHALF AND IN YOUR NAME THE EASTERN NIGERIA TO BE A SOVEREIGN STATE,
NOW THEREFORE, I LT. COL CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU, MILITARY GOVERNOR OF EASTERN NIGERIA, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY AND ABOVE RECITALS DO HEREBY SOLEMNLY PROCLAIM....
Ojukwu was a wise man. He studied history at Oxford. He understood the psychology of the Igbos and our neighbors. He knew he couldn't act alone. He knew he needed the support of the people.
When that announcement was made, there was an explosion of joy across the entire Eastern Nigeria.
Our finest brains were fully with him. Sir Louis Mbanefo, the first Igbo lawyer accepted to serve as Chief Justice of Biafra. Others like Achebe, Okigbo, etc were there.
Ojukwu understood that Biafra wasn't an Igbo thing. It was never. He brought in an Efik man as his Second in Command. His name was General Philip Effiong. The Secretary to the Government of Biafra was also Efik. It was an Eastern Nigerian agenda. Even a Yoruba officer, Tunji Banjo abandoned his own people and fought for Biafra.
That is the power of ideas supported by popular acclaim.
Our people were happy. We were enthusiastic. The people had spoken through their leader.
In January 1970 when the war ended, Ojukwu had fled to the Ivory Coast. He handed over to Effiong. When there was more sense continuing with the war, Effiong didn't just make an announcement on his own. He consulted our people. Even in the heat of an excruciating war, Effiong never acted alone.
In his last speech to the Biafran people, Effiong said...
FELLOW COUNTRYMEN AND WOMEN, AS YOU ALL KNOW, I WAS ASKED TO BE THE OFFICER ADMINISTERING THIS REPUBLIC ON JANUARY 10,1970...
I HAVE HAD EXTENSIVE CONSULTATIONS WITH THE LEADERS OF OUR COMMUNITIES BOTH MILITARY AND CIVIL, AND I AM NOW ENCOURAGED AND HASTEN TO MAKE THIS STATEMENT TO YOU...BY THE MANDATE OF THE ARMED FORCES AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY.
He spoke and spoke. Commending our people for the resilience during the war but stated that it was time to end it.
He set up a committee to negotiate with the Nigerian government. That committee was to be led by Chief Justice Mbanefo, Prof Eni Njoku, Chief Bassey and Chief Aguma . Bassey was from Cross River and Aguma, from Rivers.
He then set up a committee of eminent persons to ADVISE HIM on the issues that will arise. That committee had people from across the entire Eastern Nigeria, from the military and outside. There were Igbos, Efiks, Ijaws, etc. They were men of honor and substance.
I have taken the pains to present this preamble so that our people can compare and contrast between the scenarios we had and what we have now.
All we hear and see today are unilateral proclamations. No consultation with anybody. This young man simply wakes up and makes far reaching proclamations. In doing this, he is urged on mainly by a coterie of street urchins and a mob followership, most of whom were not born when we fought the first war.
The latest in this madness is the proclamation that Igbos will not vote in the 2019 elections, starting with Anambra this November. He didn't ask the people of Anambra what they wanted. He just woke up and made an order and expects that Igbos are zombies. We shall see.
Education is very important. If this guy had the benefit a proper education, he would have known why indirect rule failed in Igboland but succeeded in other parts of the country. When indirect rule failed, the colonial leaders introduced the Warrant Chiefs who were Lords. The entire arrangement ended in a fiasco.
Igbos are by their nature, republicans and act after detailed analysis and wide spread consultations. No one can order the Igbo people around according to his own whims and caprices. Even if what you ask of them is right, the mere fact that you woke up to say it without asking them will make them resist it.
Igbos don't have powerful kings and rulers. Igbos don't by tradition prostrate before anybody. We act by a unity of purpose.
Tell me one decent and notable Igboman who is with this guy in this his movement.
Will he fight the war alone?
What does he think secession is? A cartoon film?
The original Biafra was not an Igbo thing entirely. While Igbos were in the majority, there were others too. Today, what we have is a purely designed Igbo agitation. This is not the Biafra that Ojukwu had in mind. The other people feel uncomfortable with it and have said no.
Finally, let me ask Kanu one question. If by his imperial order, Igbos refuse to vote in 2019, what of those Igbos who were elected in a state like Lagos?
Two Igbos are in the House of Reps representing two constituencies in Lagos State. One Igbo guy is in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
What becomes of them?
Those that know him should tell him to go and sleep over this his thing. He is a young man and should ask questions and consult his people before coming out to speak.
All through history, no single individual has spoken for the Igbos except the people ask him to, or he will be alone in the market place.
Finally, I will advise Kanu to go and read ACHEBE's books, THINGS FALL APART AND ARROW OF GOD. They were written by Chinua Achebe, one of the finest Igbo brains who took active part in the war.
In those two books, the republican nature of the Igbo man were in full display. The emphasis we place on unity and consultation. All decisions must be collectively reached for it to have efficacy.
In THINGS FALL APART, when Okonkwo got too powerful and decided to run a one man show, he ended up committing suicide and his body was buried by strangers in the evil forest. The people abandoned him. It didn't matter that he was the most popular and most powerful man in the land who had brought them honor severally.
Obierika, Okonkwo's best friend who was a more deeper man said to the white man...THIS WAS THE GREATEST MAN IN UMUOFIA, YOU DROVE HIM TO KILL HIMSELF AND NOW, HE WILL BE BURIED LIKE A DOG.
IN ARROW OF GOD, Ezeulu misunderstood that the allegiance the people gave to him was by virtue of his office as the Priest of Ulu, their deity. When he became too powerful and started toying with the people, the people arose against both him and the deity. The rest was history. Even while he reigned as Ezeulu, he was constantly questioned and harassed by some men like the rambunctious Nwaka.
Please tell Nnamdi Kanu to cultivate the habit of reading. WComr. Okonkwo Ifeanyi Innocent writes from Ekwulobia, with one hand and his Bible in the other hand. Kachifooonu umunnem!!!
